Authoress Note: Hi there. :) I am so happy to be writing this next chapter. :) Better hold on tight because these next four chapters will be one hell of a ride. I can't reveal anything. But there are some major changes for this episode. That's all I can tell you. Anyways I hope that you enjoy it. Without further ado Chapter 21.
Chapter 21
They had gone to another city. They had ditched the plates and credit cards to keep the FBI off of their tail. That was the last thing that they needed. But that didn't mean that they were out of the clear yet.
The two young hunters had sent Dean out to look at 50 square miles to see if he could find anything. Not only that they had sent him out for food because they really hadn't had something to eat just yet. They had been working hard looking to see what they could find.
Aeron stretched and her back popped. She groaned, rubbing her face tiredly. "We've been at these books for hours now looking this stuff up."
"I know… but I think that we found it." Sam said, looking at her.
"I hope so. And I hope that your brother has found something too."
"I hope so too."
Aeron got up and looked out the window. "Shit." She muttered.
"What is it?"Sam asked her.
"We got a damn cop outside Sam." She said drawing the curtain shut.
Sam groaned. "And Dean's out there leaving us with all this research."
"Well we can't help it." Aeron said, looking at him. "We were hungry and he wanted to be out there looking."
Sam nodded his head. "But we can only hope that he doesn't come while the cop is here."
"Might want to call him."
Sam grabbed his phone and dialed Dean.
"Yeah?"
"There's a cop car outside." Sam said into the phone trying to keep as quiet as he could.
"You think it's there for us?"
"I don't know, Dean. Aeron is the one that saw it."
"I don't see how. I mean we ditched the plates, the credit cards…"
Aeron looked out the window. "Sam… they're leaving."
Sam let out a sigh of relief. "They're leaving. False alarm."
"Well, see. Nothing to worry about."
"Yeah, being fugitives? Frigging dance party." Sam said, rolling his eyes.
"Hey man, chicks dig the danger vibe."
Sam rolled his eyes. He looked at the books that he had open with Aeron when they were researching something that was going on here. "So you got anything yet?"
"Are you kidding me? How could I? You got me sifting through like 50 square miles of real estate here."
"Well, that's where all the victims disappeared."
"Yeah, well, I got diddly-squat. What about you and Red?"
"Just one thing. I'm pretty sure of it now."
Aeron pushed the book to him.
"We're hunting a Djinn."
"A freaking genie?"
"Yeah."
"What? You think these suckers can really grant wishes?"
"I don't know." Sam put the phone on speaker so Aeron could hear what Dean was saying as well. "I guess they're powerful enough. But not exactly like Barbara Eden in harem pants. I mean, Djinn have been feeding off people for centuries. They're all over the Koran."
"My God! Barbara Eden was hot, wasn't she? Way hotter than that Bewitched chick."
"Damn it Dean, are you even listening to what your brother is saying?" Aeron said with a frustrated groan.
Dean cleared his throat. "Yeah. So uh, where do the Djinns lair up?"
"Ruins usually. Uh. Bigger the better… more places to hide."
"You know, I think I saw a place a couple miles back. I'm gonna go check it out."
"Dean…. Wait…" Aeron said, her eyes widening.
"Wait… no, no, no, no, no. Come pick us up first."
"Naw. I'm sure it's nothing. I just wanna take a look around."
Sam and Aeron looked at one another. This was very very bad.
"Why does your brother always have to do everything wrong?" Aeron said, rubbing her face.
"We got to go and find him."
"What? Meaning how the hell are we going to Sam. We can't exactly hotwire a car. Not when the cops are looking for us."
"We're gonna have to try something."
Aeron's slim fingers tangled up in her strawberry blonde locks. "Alright. We'll do it your way then."
Sam nodded his head. He wanted to make sure that they found his brother and fast. Djinns were something that you never messed with alone. It was dangerous all in itself.
The two of them left the room, one of them grabbing the keys to the motel room so they could get into the room later if they didn't find Dean or they did.
SNSNSN
Dean awoke bare chested and wearing a necklace that wasn't his amulet that he normally won. He rolled over and saw a nude woman laying in bed next to him. He blinked in confusion. What the hell was going on and where the hell was he? He got up out of bed and got dressed. He wandered down the hallway and looked around. What the hell was going on. He pulled out his phone. He needed to find Sammy and Aeron.
SNSNSN
Sam looked at his cell when it started to ring. He looked at it in confusion. What the hell was Dean calling him for? He looked a little concerned. He pushed his book back that he was reading and picked up his phone. "Dean?"
"Sam?"
"What's going on?" Sam was concerned about his brother.
"I don't know. I don't know where I am."
Sam's eyes widened. "What? What happened?"
"Well, uh, the Djinn. It attacked me."
Sam blinked in confusion. What the hell was his brother talking about? "The gin? You're… drinking gin?"
"No, asshat. the Djinn. The… scary creature. Remember? It put its hand on me and then I woke up… next to some hot chick…"
"Who?" Sam chuckled. "Carmen?"
"Who?"
Sam shook his head and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Dean, you're drunk. You're drunk-dialing me."
"I am not drunk. Quit screwing around!"
"Look, it's late. Alright, just get some sleep and, um, I'll… see you tomorrow. Okay?"
"Wait, Sam! Sam!"
Sam hung up his phone and flipped it down onto the table. He chuckled and shook his head. Sam sighed, rubbing his face. He slammed his Criminal Law and Procedure book closed.
"Sam came to bed." A woman called to him.
"I'm coming darling."
"Okay… I know that you wanted to study some more, but we have a long trip tomorrow."
"I know, baby."
"Besides…. we both need a break from our studying."
Sam's lips quivered into a smile. God did he love the life he had now.
SNSNSN
Dean slipped his phone back into his pocket. He looked around frustrated. What the hell was going on. He saw an envelope and picked it up. He saw the address on it. Carmen Porter 53 Barker Ave Lawrence, KS 66044. "Lawrence?" He saw the other two envelopes and they were his. "What the hell?"
"Honey?" Carmen came into the room. "What are you doing up?"
"Hey. Carmen. Carmen, uh, I just uh…"
"Aw, you can't sleep huh?"
"Yeah, heh heh."
"Well, why don't you come back to bed and let's see if I can do anything to help."
"Sure. Yeah. In a minute. You… you, you go ahead."
Carmen smiled. "Okay. Don't stay up too long."
"No."
Carmen kissed him softly on the lips. She went back towards the room that they shared.
Dean walked over to the bookshelf and saw a photo of Carmen, another of the two of them together, another with the two of them together dressed in more formal clothes, and another which he dropped. He turned quickly on his heels and left. He couldn't believe it. He grabbed the keys to the Impala.
SNSNSN
Dean pulled outside of his old family home. He killed the engine to his car. Dean got out of the car and slowly walked towards the door. He brought his hand up and pounded on the door. He also rang the doorbell.
The porch light came on and Mary opened the door. "Dean?" She asked in confusion. What was he doing here?
Dean stared for a few seconds. He couldn't believe that his mom was still alive. He felt he was going to break. "Mom?" He said, his voice cracking a little bit.
"What are you doing here? Are you alright?"
"I don't know."
"Well… come inside."
Dean came into the home that he remembered when he was four years old.
Mary closed the door. "Carmen just called and said you just… took off all of a sudden."
"Carmen? Right… Let me ask you a question. When I was a kid, what did you always tell me when you put me to bed?"
"Dean, I don't understand…" Mary was really confused. What was wrong with her eldest son?
"Just answer the question." He said, swallowing the lump that had formed in his throat.
"I told you angels were watching over you."
Dean looked down. "I don't believe it." He walked over and hugged her tightly.
"Honey, you're scaring me."
Dean backed off.
"Now just tell me what's going on."
"You don't think that wishes can, can really…"
"What?'
"Forget it." He hugged her again. "Forget it. I'm just uh… I'm happy to see you, that's all." He almost cried but pulled himself together. He needed to do just that. He looked down at his mother. "You're beautiful." He laughed a little. He was oh so going against his no chick flick moment type of thing.
"What?" Mary asked, smiling.
Dean cleared his throat. "Hey, when I was uh… When I was young, was there ever a fire here?" He said walking towards the wall looking at all of the books and pictures.
"No. Never."
"I thought there was." Dean looked at the photograph with the family together. He saw his brother and him as little kids. "I guess I was wrong." He saw another picture of himself this time in a cap. Another with his prom date. Another with Sam as a graduate. Another picture of Mary and John together dressed nicely like they had gone to a wedding or something. He picked up a photo that was black and white. It was his father dressed in baseball gear. "Dad's on a softball team." He turned around and saw his mom looking at him seriously. "Dad's… Dad's softball team. It's… That's funny to me."
"He loved that stupid team."
"Dad's dead? And the thing that killed him was a…"
"A stroke. He died in his sleep. You know that."
"That's great."
"Excuse me?"
"That… that's great. That he went peacefully, I mean. It sure beats the alternative."
"You've been drinking."
"No, I haven't. Mom."
"I'm just gonna call Carmen and have her come and pick you up, okay?"
"Wait. No, no!" Dean put his hand over his mom's to keep her from picking up the phone. "Don't… don't do that. Don't do that. I want to stay here."
"Why?" Mary asked him confused.
"Because I miss this place. It's okay, you… you got to bed. Okay?" He walked over to the couch and sat down. He looked around a little bit.
Mary walked over to him and stroked his face tenderly. "Are you sure you're alright?"
"I think so."
"Okay." She placed a soft kiss on his forehead. She walked out of the room slowly. She stopped at the door. "Get some rest. I love you."
"Me too."
Mary smiled and then headed off to bed.
Dean looked at a photo of Sam graduating with Mary and his dad smiling proudly next to him.
SNSNSN
Dean woke up the next morning on the couch. He opened his eyes slowly rubbing the sleep from them. He slowly sat up and pulled out his phone after looking at a photo of him, his brother as kids with his dad in a Santa hat with their mother. What concerned him was where the hell was Aeron. Where was she? This place was strange to him. He knew that this had to have been a dream, but so far it wasn't. He dialed his brother's cell.
"Hey, it's me. I can't come to pho…"
Dean hung up his phone. He rubbed his face. He needed to find out what the hell was going on. He was going to have to go to the local college. At least find something out.
SNSNSN
Dean had snuck into the professor's office of the local college to see if he could get some kind of information.
"Well I don't think I've seen you in my class before." The professor said, looking at him.
Dean rubbed the back of his head. "You kidding me? I love your lectures. You… You make learning fun."
The two of them laughed.
"So. What can I do for you?"
"What can you tell me about Djinns?"
SNSNSN
Dean and the Professor stood looking at a bunch of books.
"Well, a lot of Muslims believe the Djinn are very real. And they're mentioned in the Koran…"
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I know. Get to the wish part."
"What about it?"
"Do you really think they really do it?"
"Um… uh, no. No, I don't really think they can really do it. You understand these are mythic creatures?"
"Yeah, I know. I.. I.. I know. I know. But uh. I mean in the stories. You know, say you had a wish, uh. But you never even said it outloud. Like that, uh… that a loved one never died. Or that, uh, something awful never happened."
"Supposedly yes. I mean they have godlike power. They can alter reality however they want. Past. Present. Future."
"Why would the Djinn do it? What, self-defense? Or maybe it's not really evil."
"Son?"
"Hm?"
"You been drinking?"
"Everybody keeps asking me that. But uh… no."
SNSNSN
The Dean exited the campus. He walked to his car and got the trunk open. He only saw old magazines and paper cups and a rag. No guns or other weapons. "Well, who'd thought, baby. We're civilians." He said, chuckling. He never thought that he would ever see that. He closed the trunk. That meant that Sam was a civilian as well and maybe Aeron was as well. Dean saw a girl looking at him. His smile faded as he sensed something. He looked at her and started to cross the street going towards her. He almost was hit by a car. He held his hands up in defense and looked at the car. He turned back to the girl and she was gone. He looked puzzled and quickly went back to his car getting into this. This was too weird. Something was going on. Now he was going to get to the bottom of this.
SPNSPN
Dean took a bite out of a big sandwich that his mom had made. He hummed because it was s o good. "This is the best sandwich ever." He said through a mouthful of food.
"Thank you." Mary said from the other room.
Dean had tried to call Sam a few more times and got his voicemail. "I tried to get a hold of Sam earlier. Where… where… Where is he?"
"Oh, he'll be here soon." Mary said coming into the room.
"Good. Dying to see him."
Mary smiled. "Sweetie, I… I… Don't get me wrong. I am thrilled you are…. hanging out here… all of a sudden." She stroked Dean's chin. "But uh…. shouldn't you be at work?"
"Work?"
"At the garage?"
"Right. The garage. It's where I work, yeah. No, I… I've got the day off." He snickered for a second. "Heh. Good thing." He took another bite again. He looked out the window as he chewed his sandwich."That lawn looks like it could use some mowing."
"You want to mow the lawn?" Mary asked, looking at him.
Dean looked back at his mother. "Are you kidding me? I'd love to mow the lawn."
"Knock yourself out." Mary said, chuckling. "You'd think you'd never mowed a lawn in your life."
Dean shrugged his shoulders. Of course he has never mowed the lawn before. Because of all the running around that he and Sam did when they were children and young adults. They were always hunting so there was no point in mowing.
SNSNSN
"So your brother called last night?"
"Yeah. He was drunk though."
"He drunk dialed you? Sam baby, he can't keep doing that."
"I know babe. I know. But for some reason he told me he couldn't remember what was going on."
"Well… he needs help."
"Don't worry babe."
"Do you think your mom would be pleased?"
"With what?"
"About our surprise?"
Sam smiled. "I think she will."
"Oh god I hope so. I am so nervous."
"Don't be. I am nervous too of what the others will say too." Sam said, taking her hand in his. "Everything will be perfect."
"I hope so."
SNSNSN
Dean had mowed the lawn like he said that he would. And now he was sitting on the steps to the front porch drinking a beer. It was nice to have a normal life for once. Even though it felt very very strange to him. He watched a car pull up to the curb. His eyes widened when he saw Sam in the passenger seat. Who was his baby brother with?
Sam got out of the car slowly.
A woman dressed in a flowy summer dress got out of the driver's side.
Dean's eyes widened. He knew who the woman was. She looked so much different here. No longer did she have a pixie haircut, but a shoulder length haircut that made her look more like a woman than a boy. It was still Red to him.
Sam got into the trunk to get their things.
"Baby. I would have helped." Aeron said laughing lightly.
"I know." Sam said with a smile kissing her softly on the lips.
Dean got up and ran down the stairs. He hugged Aeron. "Good to see you Red."
Aeron chuckled. "Ah… Good to see you too Dean…"
Dean laughed.
"Can't breathe, okay."
Dean released her.
Sam shook his head.
"Sammy."
"Hey."
Dean smiled big. "Look at you. You and Aeron. I don't believe it."
Aeron shook her head.
"Yeah."
"Where'd you guys come from?"
Aeron queried her eyebrow.
"We just flew in from… Califor….."
"California! Stanford. Huh? Law school, I bet."
Aeron shook her head.
Sam noticed the beer in his brother's hand. "I see you started mom's birthday with a bang, as usual."
"Wait. Mom's birthday, that's it, that's today?"
"Yeah. Yeah, Dean." Sam shook his head. "That's today. That's why we're here. Don't tell me you forgot."
"Wha…"
"Baby." Aeron said, looking at Sam. "We should head inside."
Sam kissed her on the top of the head.
Aeron chuckled lightly. "We have a reservation to catch too."
"That's right." Sam wrapped his arm around her as she took her bag from him.
The two of them walked inside.
SNSNSN
Sam, Dean, Mary, Aeron, Carmen, a young man around Dean's age maybe a bit older with a woman next to him which Dean found out were Aeron's older brother and his wife Malinda. They were there to celebrate Mary's birthday.
Dean looked across the table and saw how close Aeron and Sam were to each other. He saw a gold band on Sam's left ring finger and two rings on Aeron's left ring finger. He hadn't asked. But he knew that they had gotten married. But he didn't know when. He assumed that was what the pictures were at both his home and at his mom's place. It was surreal. Sam got married, and it was to Aeron and he was happy to see that. Hell ecstatic even. Dean's nose turned up when a plate of asparagus spears was placed in front of him. "Wow, that… looks awesome."
"Alright. To mom." He said, raising his glass of champagne. "Happy birthday."
"Happy birthday." Aeron said lifting up her glass of water that she opted to have.
"Thank you." Mary said with a smile.
They all clinked their glasses in a cheer.
"To mom." Dean said with a smile.
Sam and Aeron kissed each other softly on the lips.
Dean smiled. Now that was something that he was happy to see.
Carmen leaned over a little bit. "I was really worried about you last night."
Dean looked over at her. "Oh, I'm… I'm good. I'm really good." Dean said with a smile.
"Okay. What do you say? Later we will get you a cheeseburger?"
"Oh God, yes."
Carmen smiled.
"How did I end up with such a cool chick?"
"Just got low standards."
Dean laughed and kissed her.
Aeron looked over at Sam and nudged him. She looked into his hazel eyes shyly.
Sam took her hand in his squeezing lightly. "Alright." Sam said with a small smile. He nervously rubbed his thumb over Aeron's hand. "Aeron and I actually have another surprise for mom's birthday…" He looked over at his wife nervously. "Actually it is a surprise for everyone really."
"They're our family darling. We can't keep them hanging." Aeron said, kissing his cheek softly.
"Alright." Sam said softly, his hand absentmindedly being put onto her belly.
"What? Tell me what?" Mary asked, looking at the two of them.
"Well…" Aeron bit her lip. "We may need some help."
"What do you mean little sis?" Darrel asked, looking at her in concern.
"We… um. well."
"We are expecting our first child." Sam said softly with a small smile on his lips.
Dean's eyes widened.
"Oh my god! That is so wonderful." Mary said, shocked.
Aeron smiled.
"How far along?" Carmen asked.
"Three months." Aeron said softly.
"We didn't want to say until we were certain and that there were no problems."
Mary got up as Aeron did and she hugged her daughter in law.
Darrel looked at Sam. "You will be a good father Sam."
Sam looked at Darrel. "Thank you."
Mary hugged her youngest son. "I just wish your dad was here."
"Yeah. Me too."
Dean looked at his brother. "Congratulations Sammy."
Sam looked at his brother. "Thanks."
"I'm really glad you're happy. Aeron is a really good woman for you and she and you will make wonderful parents."
Sam looked a bit puzzled with what Dean was saying.
Dean looked over his brother's shoulder and there stood the same woman that he had seen earlier. What the hell was going on. He stood up and bumped into his brother on the way through.
Aeron looked at Sam concerned. "What the heck is wrong with your brother?"
"I don't know."
"Is he drunk?"
"I have no idea."
Aeron bit her lip.
Dean turned and faced them.
They stood up looking at him in concern.
SNSNSN
The three women laughed as they came into the home.
Sam looked at his brother. "So, Dean, what was uh… what was all that back at the restaurant?"
"Ah… I thought I saw someone. I'm sure it's nothing."
"Well, I had a lovely birthday. Thank you. Good night." Mary said, smiling at the two women.
"Good night." Carmen and Aeron said at the same time, smiling at her.
"Good night." Dean said, looking at his mom.
"Night, Mom." Sam rubbed his head tiredly. "Yeah, well I'm beat." Sam looked at his wife. "Ready to turn in?"
"Yeah." Aeron said, rubbing her slightly swollen belly. "We've been on the go for a while."
"Alright." Sam said with a smile. "Good night guys."
"Wait a second. Wait a second. Come on, it's not even nine o'clock yet. Let's uh… Let's go and have a drink or something." Dean said looking at his brother and his wife.
"Yeah, maybe some other time."
"Come on man. Look at us. Huh? We both have beautiful women on our arms. You're married and about to have a baby. Let's go celebrate."
Sam rubbed his face. He looked at his wife and then to Carmen. "Guys, can you excuse us? I want to talk to my brother for a sec."
"Sure baby." Aeron said with a small smile.
"Thanks." He said kissing the top of Aeron's head.
Aeron looked at Carmen. "Come on Carmen."
The two women left to allow the two brothers to talk.
"What has gotten into Dean?" Aeron asked, looking at Carmen.
"I have no idea. He has been acting like this since last night."
Aeron shook her head. "I can tell how he is acting… it's really bothering Sam." Aeron rubbed her bare arm a little bit. "He came to bed last night rather upset. He didn't tell me what had happened. But with the stress of school… heck both of us are in school… Dean acting strange is going to bother him."
Carmen let out a soft sigh. "I don't know what's wrong with him really. I mean I am very worried about him as well. Maybe he is trying to do right by his brother?"
"I don't know. I am just worried about how this is going to affect Sam. I mean Sam is working hard and he seemed fine with how things were between the two of them. I know that they don't talk a lot like me and Darrel do, but I do understand."
Sam came into the room. "Hey baby."
Aeron looked at her husband. "Everything alright?"
Sam swallowed the lump in his throat. "Everything is fine."
"You sure?"
"Yeah." He pressed a soft kiss to her forehead. "Ready for bed?"
Aeron smiled. "Yeah."
The two of them looked at Carmen. "Good night."
"Night you two."
Sam and Aeron walked up the stairs to go to the room that they were staying in while they were there in Lawrence. The two of them went into their room.
Aeron turned to her husband and leaned up.
Sam leaned down and captured her lips in a soft kiss.
SPNSPN
Sam woke up next to his wife. Someone was here in the house.
Aeron moved in bed. She had woken up due to Sam jerking awake. "Babe." She rubbed her eyes. "What is it?"
"Baby go back to sleep. I'll be right back."
Aeron groaned. "You know I don't sleep well without you." She said sitting up in bed.
Sam slowly got up out of bed. He pressed a soft kiss on her head."I will be back I promise. Try to rest, baby."
Aeron smiled and kissed him softly on the lips. "Okay. Hurry back." Aeron laid back down in the bed.
Sam grabbed a bat and left the room. He slowly walked down the stairs quietly, not alerting whoever was downstairs. Sam stopped in the doorway, leaning slowly in to look around. He saw the window was open and someone was in the cabinets. Sam went in swinging the bat.
It was none other than Dean. He counterattacked and Sam was on the floor. "That was so easy, I'm embarrassed for you." Dean said, breathing out lightly.
"Dean? What the hell are you doing here."
Dean got up and allowed Sam to get up off of the floor. "I was looking for a beer."
"In the china cabinet?" Sam went over and turned on the light. "That's mom's silver." He said when he saw Dean in the silver.
"Sam."
"What, you… you broke into the house… to steal mom's silver?"
"It's not what it looks like. Okay, I didn't have a choice."
"Oh really? Why? What's so damn important you gotta steal from your own mother?" Sam asked, narrowing his eyes at his brother.
Aeron came tiredly down the stairs rubbing her eyes.
"You want the truth?"
"Yeah, yeah I do."
Dean shrugged his shoulders. "I owe someone money."
"Who?"
"A bookie. I lost big on a game, I gotta bring him the cash tonight."
"I can't believe we're even related."
"Sam, I'm sorry."
"What's going on in here?"Aeron said, looking between the brothers.
"Baby… I thought you would be resting."
"I heard the commotion down here." Aeron said, crossing her arms.
"I'm sorry that we don't get along, Sam. And I wish to hell I could stay and fix it. But I gotta do this. People's lives depend on it." He turned and took a knife from the box.
"What are you talking about Dean?"
"Nothing. Forget it. Just uh… hey, tell Mom I love her."
Sam frowned. "Dean."
Dean stopped at the door. "I'll see you Sammy." He said walking out the door.
Aeron and Sam looked at each other in confusion.
Aeron put her hand on his shoulder. "Go after him. He seemed off."
"What about you?"
"Samm, he's your brother." Aeron smiled. "I'll stay here. You two need some brother brother time."
Sam kissed her softly on the lips. "I'll be back. I will make sure he's alright."
"I know."
"I love you."
"I love you too."
SNSNSN
Dean rubbed his face thinking. How was he going to do this?
Sam opened the door and got into the car.
"Get out of the car." Dean told Sam.
"I'm going with you."
"You're just gonna slow me down. Plus you have a pregnant wife there. She needs you."
"Tough."
Dean shook his head. "Don't let her hear you say that. This is also dangerous and you could get hurt."
"Yeah, and so could you, Dean."
"Sam…"
"Look, whatever stupid thing you're about to do, you're not doing it alone. And that's that."
"I don't are you doing this?"
Sam looked at Dean. "Because." He let out a sigh. "You're still my brother."
"Bitch." Dean said, closing his eyes.
"W..what are you calling me a bitch for?"
"You're supposed to say jerk."
"What?"
Dean shook his head. "Nevermind." He said putting the Impala into the gear and driving away. "I just hope that you know what you are doing and you are going to have one angry wife when you get back."
"She is the one that told me to come with you." Sam admitted looking at him. "She knows I'll be back."
SNSNSN
Sam looked down at the bag that was on the seat between them. He let out a sigh. "What's in the bag?"
"Nothin'."
"Nothin'?" Sam shook his head letting out a sigh. He wanted to know what the hell he was getting himself into.
"Yeah nothin'."
"Fine." Sam grabbed the bag and began to open it..
"You don't wanna do that."
"Oh really?" He took out what was in the bag. It was a container of blood. Sam's eyes widened. "What the hell is this?"
"Blood."
"Yeah, I can see that it's blood, Dean. What the hell is it doing here?"
"You don't really wanna know." Dean said, shaking his head.
Sam looked at his brother. "No I… I really wanna know. I really, really, do."
"Yeah, well you're gonna find out sooner or later. I needed a silver knife dipped in lamb's blood."
"You needed a silver knife dipped in lamb's blood, why?"
"Because there's this creature. A Djinn. And I have to hunt it."
"Okay, um… stop the car."
"I know how it sounds."
"Great. Just… stop the car."
"It's the truth, Sam. ALright, there are things out there in the dark. There… there… There are bad things. There are nightmare things. And people have to be saved and if we don't save them, then nobody will."
"Look, I wanna help you, alright, I.. I really, really do, but you're having some kind of psychotic breakdown, so, I… just…"
"I wish."
Sam picked up his phone and began to dial a number.
Dean rolled his window down and grabbed Sam's phone, throwing it out the window. He rolled the window back up.
"What the hell was that, Dean? That was my phone!"
"I'm not going to a rubber room, Sammy. And we got work to do."
"What? I was calling Aeron. She is a student studying psychology." Sam let out a sigh."I was just trying to help you out, Dean. I don't, I don't want you to get yourself hurt."
"What? You protect me?"
"Yeah."
Dean laughed. "Oh, that's hilarious. Why don't you just sit tight and try not to get us both killed." He said turning the radio up.

Dean pulled over and saw that Sam was asleep. He picked up his flashlight and turned it on, shining it onto Sam's face.
Sam woke up with a start. Sam groaned. "Where are we?"
"Well, we're not in Kansas anymore." He chuckled. He rolled his eyes. "Illinois."
"And you think something's in there."
"I know it is."
The two of them slowly went into the old factory building.
"See? There's nothing here Dean." Sam said growing more concerned about his brother.
Dean started to walk down the hallway.
Sam followed closely behind him. "Look, Carmen's gotta be worried sick about you, Dean. Come on, let… let's just go."
There is a noise that stops them.
"Shh.."
Another sound.
Sam now knows that there is something wrong and there was something serious. "What the hell is that?"
"Stay behind me and keep your mouth shut."
The two of them approached the room and saw a room with bodies hanging from the ceiling.
Sam's eyes widened. "What the hell?"
Dean looked around and saw the woman that he had been seeing off and on. He slowly moved towards her, Sam following closely behind him. "It's her."
Sam looked at the bag and her wrists.
The woman began to moan and whimper.
"Dean, what's going on?"
Dean grabbed onto Sam. "Shh." Dean quickly pulled him into a hiding place.
"Where's my dad?" The woman cried. "I won't tell." She looked at the Djinn. "Don't." She moved her feet. "Where's my dad?"
Djinn touched her face. "Sleep." His eyes glowed blue. "Sleep…. Sleep."
Her head fell forward.
He grabbed the blood bag and pulled out one straw and put it into his mouth while drinking it.
Sam gagged in disgust.
Dean rolled his eyes and grabbed Sam, getting them out of there.
The Djinn looked where they were hiding and they weren't there any more. He walked up the creaky steps.
Sam and Dean followed the Djinn's steps slowly below. They heard the door close.
Sam breathed loudly. "This is real? You're not crazy?"
"She didn't know where she was. She thought she was with her father." Dean said thinking out loud. Dean looked at Sam. "Come on."
The two of them went back into the other room where the woman was.
"What if that's what the Djinn does? It doesn't grant you a wish, it just makes you think it has." Dean mumbled to himself.
"Look man. That thing could come back, alright?"
Dean walked past his brother in the opposite direction of the woman. He looked up at the light bulb and it started to flicker. Dean gagged and was having trouble breathing.
"Dean, please."
Dean breathed heavily. "What if I'm like her? What if I'm tied up in here someplace. WHat if all this is in my head?" Dean walked up to the woman. "I mean it could, you know, maybe give us some kind of supernatural acid, and then just feed on us slow."
"No, Dean, that doesn't make sense okay?"
"What if that's why she keeps appearing to me? She's not a spirit. It's… it's like more and more like I'm catching flashes of reality. You know like I'm in here somewhere, and I'm… I' catatonic, and I'm taking all this stuff in but I, but I can't snap out of it."
"Yeah, ok, look. Yeah, yeah, yeah, you're right. I was wrong. You're not crazy, but we… we… we need to get out of here. Fast." Dam grabbed onto his brother's arm and pulled him.
Dean pulled his arm loose.
Sam looked at his brother throwing his arms out.
"I don't think you're real."
Sam sucked in a breath. "Dude, you feel that." He grabbed Dean's arms. "You feel this? I'm real. This is not an acid trip. I'm real, and that thing is gonna come down here and kill us for real. Now, please…."
"There's one way to be sure." Dean said, pulling out the silver knife.
Sam backed away from his brother. "Whoa, whoa, whoa. What are you doing?"
"It's an old wives' tale. If you're about to die in a dream, you wake up."
"No, no, no, no,no, no. That's crazy. Alright?"
Dean looked at Sam with a determined look. "Maybe."
Sam walked towards Dean. "You're gonna kill yourself…"
Dean held out the knife and his other hand to stop his brother.
"Ok…"
"Or I'm gonna wake up. One or the other."
"Ok. This isn't a dream, alright? I'm here, with you, now. And you're about to kill yourself, Dean."
"No, I'm pretty sure. Like, 90% sure. But I'm sure enough." He said, turning the knife towards himself. He put both hands on the handle.
"Wait!"
Mary appeared next to Dean in the same nightgown that she died in.
Behind Sam Carmen appeared.
"Why'd you have to keep digging?"
Dean looked back at Mary and Aeron appeared on his right side.
"Why couldn't you have left well enough alone?"
Dean looked around.
"You were happy."
Mary came up to Dean. "Put the knife down, honey."
"You're not real." Dean said as he felt tears come to his eyes. "One of them is."
"It doesn't matter. It's still better than anything you had."
"What?"
"It's everything you want. We're a family again. Let's go home."
Dean shook his head. "I'll die." His voice cracked. "The Djinn will… drain the life out of me in a couple of days."
"But here, with us, it;ll feel like years. Like a lifetime."
Dean looked over at Sam who was smiling a half smile and nodding to him.
"I promise." Mary took Dean's chin in her hand.
He looked down.
"No more pain." She stroked his cheek. "Or fear. Just love and comfort. And safety. Dean, stay with us." She stroked his other cheek causing him to lean in. "Get some rest."
Aeron smiled, wrapping her arm around Sam. "You don't have to worry about Sam anymore."
Dean looked at her.
"You get to watch him live a full life."
Mary stepped away.
Carmen walked up to him. She took his face into her hands and kissed him softly on the lips. "We can have a future together. Have our own family. I love you, Dean. Please."
Sam walked up. "Why is it our job to save everyone? Haven't we done enough? I'm beggin you." Sam breathed in. "Give me the knife."
Dean looked at Carmen, Sam, Mary, and Aeron. He backed away from them. He looked down at the floor. He slowly raised his head and looked at Sam and Aeron. He inhaled. "I'm sorry." He thrusted the knife into his chest.
"Dean! Dean! Dean! Dean."

"Dean!" Aeron yelled.
"Oh God. Come on." Sam said, shaking him. "Hey. Wake up. Wake up, damn it!"
Dean grunted a little. He got his eyes to focus.
"Hey. Hey."
"Ahh. Auntie Em. There's no place like home."
"Thank god. I thought I lost you for a second." He said as he pulled the tube in Dean's throat out.
"You almost did."
"Oh god." Sam breathed heavily. "Let's get you down."
Eon handed her knife to Sam.
"Thanks." Sam reached up and began to cut through the ropes.
Dean winced and grunted a little bit in pain.
The Djinn came out of its hiding place.
"Red! Sam!"
Aeron turned only to be touched and she crumpled to the ground.
Sam turned and went after the Djinn with the knife.
Djinn touched Sam for a moment and got him to drop the knife.
Dean tried to pull himself loose. He pulled on the rope.
The Djinn had Sam by the throat. His hand began to glow blue. He moved it towards Sam's forehead.
Sam struggled pushing against his wrist trying to stop him.
Djinn opened his hand and it appeared in his hand.
Dean thrusted the knife into Djinn's back. Djinn turned to look at Dean. Dean pulled the knife out and it fell to the floor dead.
Sam breathed heavily. He looked at his brother. His brother didn't look good at all.
Dean walked over to the girl. He put his hand on her neck. "She's still alive." He handed the knife to his brother. "Sam…" He pulled the tube out of her neck.
Sam cut the rope.
Dean carefully caught her. "I gotcha. I gotcha. We're gonna get you out of here, okay? I gotcha."
She made wheezing noises.
"I got you." Dean looked at Sam. "Check on Aeron."
Sam nodded his head.

Dean sat on the edge of his hotel bed flipping through a magazine. He saw a woman in an ad holding a was Carmen the lover he had in his Djinn fantasy.
"Okay, uh, thank you so much for the update. Ok. Bye." Sam hung up his cell phone. He looked at his brother. "That was the hospital. Girl's been stabilized. Good chance she's gonna pull through."
"That's good."
"Yeah." Sam rubbed his neck. "How about you? You alright?"
Dean cleared his throat. "Yeah, I'm alright." Dean looked up at his brother. "You should have seen it, Sam. Our lives. You were such a wussy."
Sam chuckled. "So we didn't get along then, huh?"
"Nah."
"Yeah… I thought it was supposed to be this perfect fantasy."
"It wasn't. It was just a wish. I wished for mom to live. That mom never died, we never went hunting and you and me just never uh… you know."
"Yeah. Well, I'm glad we do. And I'm glad you dug yourself out, Dean. Most people wouldn't have had the strength, would have just stayed."
"Yeah… Lucky me." Dean looked over to the couch where Aeron was sleeping. "I gotta tell you though, man. You know, you had Aeron. Hell you were married to her. Mom was gonna have a grandkid…"
"Yeah, but… Dean… it wasn't real." Sam said, looking at his brother.
"I know. But I wanted to stay." Dean looked at his brother sadly. "I wanted to stay so bad. I mean, ever since dad… all I can… all I can think about is how much this job's cost us." Dean took a breath."We've lost so much. We've… sacrificed so much."
Sam let out a sigh. "But people are alive because of you."
Dean scoffed.
"It's worth it, Dean. It is. It's not fair, and… you know, it hurts like hell, but… it's worth it."
Dean looked at his brother and then down at his hands. "But you were happy Sam."
"I know… But Dean… me and Aeron seriously?"
Dean looked up at his brother. "Yeah. The two of you met in Stanford."
Sam shook his head.
"You were studying law and she was studying psychology."
Sam let out a sigh. "She and I would never be together, Dean. You know that."
Dean shook his head. The two of those young hunters were just too stubborn to see that they liked one another. Hell he had seen her kiss Sam's cheek and he was still denying his feelings for the little red head and he needed to come up with something to help those two admit that they liked one another.
