Disclaimer: I don't own Chuck

Chuck sat on his patio at the hotel, watching the sun against the water. After he had told his girlfriend and friends what had happened with Jill, things had grown somber. This being in violation of Molly and Carina's personal code, they decided they wanted to go shopping, and managed to sway Sarah into joining them. Zondra declined, saying she wanted to go back over their contract and make sure they were covered, in case Jill pulled any more shenanigans.

Chuck was sure Jill wouldn't do anything else. That didn't prevent his acknowledging the very real merit of Zondra's idea. He had begged off going shopping with the others, and they didn't push him. Sarah had gone back to the room with him, as he left Zondra and Molly's, just to make sure he was okay. He'd told her he was fine as far as Jill was concerned… it was Teddy's involvement that had shocked him. Why, he wasn't sure. Sarah had suggested Teddy's long-standing status as a family friend was at the root of it. Chuck mulled over that thought, as he continued to stare at the ocean.

"Curls!" he heard from his left. He turned his head to find Zondra sitting on her patio. She lifted a bottle and two glasses.

"Yeah, I could go for that," Chuck muttered, as he stood and walked over to her patio. "Find something bad in the contracts?"

"Nope," Zondra replied, handing him the glass she had just poured. "Just…." She shook her head. "You know what, you've got enough on your plate, without listening to my bitching."

Chuck sat there for a second. "If you ever need an ear, I'm here, Zondra."

"I know, Curls," Zondra told him. She raised a glass. "To shitty people."

Chuck laughed. "Shitty people," he said, clinking his to hers. They took a drink and sat there, quietly. He followed her gaze to what looked to be a wedding party on the beach. "Do we know them?"

"No," Zondra said, shaking her head. "Just two dudes that want to get married, getting married."

Chuck looked over at her. "You okay?" She glanced at him and snorted. "There was something in your voice, I think." Zondra grinned at him, waiting to hear more. Chuck shook his head. "You know what? I'm gonna shut up."

"No, what did you hear?" Zondra asked. Chuck heard the curiosity in her voice.

He thought for a second. "Two things, I think," he began. He glanced at her for confirmation, getting nothing in return. "You could be a spy, or a poker player, with that face."

"Who says I'm not both?" she asked, arching an eyebrow.

Chuck laughed at that. "I think I heard a little bit of resentment, and a little bit of jealousy."

Zondra was silent, pressing her lips together and nodding. She let her features show how impressed she was. "You're good." Chuck shrugged. "I wonder if that's their choice, or if they had to?" Chuck was watching the couple when she spoke, and he turned back to her. Zondra's chin was set, and she looked angry as she stared at the two men getting married. "I wonder if one of them had to settle."

Chuck didn't say anything, but he thought back to what Sarah had told him. "I mean, doesn't someone always have to do something they don't want, at a wedding?"

Zondra shrugged silently, but her expression changed to you could be right. "Ever thought about your wedding, Chuck?" She took a drink after she asked, watching him.

"No," Chuck admitted.

"Nothing at all?" Zondra continued. "Where it would be, who you would invite, reception afterwards, cash bar… none of it?"

"No," Chuck said, shaking his head. "I mean, I know my family would be there-"

"After everything that happened, would they?" Zondra asked, cutting in. "Would you want them there?" Chuck turned to her. Her set jaw was trembling. "Sarah told me your father said you picked her over the family."

"He did," Chuck said carefully. "I hope it was said in a moment of insanity."

"What if it wasn't?" Zondra asked him. "What if… what if you loved someone that they thought wasn't right for you? What if you loved someone that they didn't like, not because of any of their actions, not because of transgressions, but because of who they are? Like… the color of their hair?" She pulled a strand of her hair away from her body, glanced at it, and then back to Chuck. "What if they didn't like them because of the color of their eyes?"

"You're saying they don't like someone because of who they are," Chuck said gently. "Not a choice, like a shirt, a tattoo, a piercing, which are all stupid reasons to not like someone, but literally, because of who they are." Zondra nodded. "That's got to hurt."

Zondra lifted her chin and stared past him. Chuck turned, and saw the couple getting married share a kiss.

"Good for them," she said softly.

"Sarah's got a big family, and they'd probably all be there," Chuck said gently.

"Yeah," Zondra replied, nodding. They watched the couple.

"And if my family didn't come… because she was a blue-eyed blonde, it would seem awfully lonely," Chuck continued.

"Yeah."

"And it wouldn't be fair of me to ask Sarah to change her plans, all because I had no one on my side when I got married," Chuck finished.

"No," Zondra said, shaking her head. "I mean, you wouldn't have anyone to give you away."

"I'd have you," Chuck said softly. She turned and locked eyes with him. "That is, if I were to be given away. Last I checked, the dude usually isn't given away."

"I'd give you away," Zondra said.

"So far away," Chuck muttered. Zondra burst out laughing. "If it ever came down to it, and you needed someone…" Chuck trailed off.

"Yeah?" Zondra asked.

"Yeah, I'd give you away. It would be my honor," Chuck told her.

Zondra was silent as she reached over, grabbed the bottle, and poured more into both of their glasses. She set down the bottle, lifted her glass and held it out to Chuck. Chuck grabbed his and lifted it up to her.

"To the Walker women."

"To the Walker women," Chuck replied. They clinked their glasses together. "If anyone asks, you never cried."

"You're damn straight I didn't cry," Zondra told him, as the two chuckled.

"Wanna talk about it?" Chuck asked, after fifteen or so minutes of silence. It was a comfortable silence between them. "You don't have to, just thought it might help."

"Becky Summers," Zondra said, swirling her drink in her glass. "She wore a beret one day, and I thought it was just the cutest thing ever."

"Was it raspberry?" Chuck asked.

"No, Prince," she said, rolling her eyes at Chuck, making him chuckle. Zondra got a far-away look on her face. "God, she was cute as hell in that hat." She looked over at Chuck. "Sarah would rock the hell out of one."

"Yeah she would," Chuck replied. "Ever ask Molly to wear one?"

"Maybe," Zondra replied, smirking as a hint of blush colored her cheeks.

"Okay, I think we need to change the subject." Zondra laughed.

"Anyway, that night I told my mom how pretty Becky was in the beret." Zondra blew out a breath. "At the time, I noticed nothing. But looking back… that was probably the night she changed towards me."

"When was this?" Chuck asked.

"Eighth grade," Zondra replied. "Over the next few weeks, any time we saw what she thought was a cute boy, she asked me about him."

"Zondra," Chuck began.

"I'm bi, Chuck, and so is Molly," Zondra said. "I know you were going to tell me it wasn't your business, but it is."

"Should you have told me about Molly?" Chuck asked.

Zondra chuckled. "Yes, because if you keep being as sweet as you are to her…" Zondra burst out in laughter at Chuck's widening eyes. "Chuck, we're in love, we tease the shit out of each other. Molly messes with me all the time, like the Cabana Boy thing. It's what we do, but it's just that; messing with each other. We're committed to each other."

"But it's not enough?" Chuck asked gently. Zondra shrugged. "Do you want to get married?"

"I do," Zondra said softly. "I do, but it's…"

"It's complicated," Chuck finished for her. Zondra nodded. "It makes so much sense, her family welcomes you there."

"Chuck, I practically live there when I'm in town," Zondra told him.

"Oh," Chuck said. He grinned after thinking about it for a minute. "And how does Jack take all of it."

"About the same way he does with you and Sarah," Zondra told him. Chuck laughed out loud. "He's really happy for you two."

"I feel like you're deflecting," Chuck told her. "But thank you for telling me that."

"I am," Zondra said with a shrug. "So, Mom kept trying to get me to date guys, but I just didn't care about any of them enough to date them." She looked out over the water. "I didn't really date anyone in high school, and when I got to college, I met Hank." She smiled. "Hank was a good guy, and I liked him. I just didn't love him."

"You love who you love," Chuck said softly.

Zondra nodded. "We all went dancing one night, when Molly had come up to see Sarah. Molly asked me to dance with her, because she didn't want any guys hitting on her." Zondra chuckled. "That little minx," she said, affection in her voice. "She got really close, and I asked her what she was doing. She told me that as far away as I was dancing, no one would think we were together."

She looked over at Chuck, who was just sitting there, a smile on his face. Zondra chuckled.

"She laid the trap for me," Zondra said, thinking back. "There was always something… a little extra, between me and Molly. I said something like, maybe I should just kiss her, so that would make sure and run them off."

"Oh, God," Chuck said, laughing. Zondra was smiling at the memory. "So?"

"She said okay," Zondra said.

"I can just see her, the challenge on her face as she said it," Chuck told her.

"Oh, God," Zondra replied, chuckling. "It was straight up a dare, and she knew… she knew. So, I did. I kissed the shit out of her, and that little minx kissed me right back." Chuck was biting his lip. "Go ahead, ask."

"Were you worried about Sarah?" Chuck asked.

"Hell, I couldn't even think about Sarah, much less worry about her," Zondra told him, making Chuck laugh. "I probably shouldn't be telling you this, but she did this moan thing-"

"Oh, God," Chuck blurted out, laughing. "You were done."

"D. U. N. DONE!" Zondra agreed. "When we finally joined Carina and Sarah, they were just grinning."

"Really?" Chuck asked, sucked into the story.

"Oh, Molly had told them she was tired of flirting, and she was going to find out if there could be anything between us that night," Zondra told him.

"Sounds like Molly," Chuck said, nodding. "Did… did she know…"

"She's known for years. I've never asked her when," Zondra told him. Zondra shook her head, a sad smile on her face. She looked Chuck straight in the eyes, tears in her own. "She told Jack and Emma, and you know what they said?" Chuck shook his head. "Make sure whoever you love, they deserve you."

"Oh," Chuck answered. "I didn't know that. Now I feel like I stole his line."

"No, Chuck, you didn't. You just said what you felt," Zondra told him. She was silent for a few moments.

"You don't have to tell me anything else, Zondra," Chuck said gently.

"No, I want you to know," Zondra told him. "After I graduated, I decided to tell my parents. Mom… Mom said I was just going through a stage, and Dad thought I was possessed by the Devil." She didn't speak for a moment. "I haven't spoken to them since."

"Zondra," Chuck said softly.

"They won't answer my phone calls. They put Return To Sender on my mail, and the cops showed up when I went to my dad's work and told me they'd have to arrest me for trespassing if I didn't leave," Zondra continued. "I am not part of the family any longer."

Chuck looked away, trying to control the anger on his face. "That isn't right," he muttered.

"No, it is not," Zondra told him. "Hang on," she said, as she got up and walked into the room and came back. She handed him a box, and he opened it. He stared at her.

"I'm flattered, but I'm in love with Sarah," he said to her. She smacked his shoulder, taking the box back from him.

"Nice one, Curls," she said. "Do you think she'll like it?"

"It's from you… she'll love it," Chuck told her.

"Yeah, she probably will, you're right," Zondra said. She looked up at Chuck. "You'll walk me down the aisle?"

"It would be my damn honor," Chuck told her.

"Damn it," Zondra said, standing. "Come on, stand up."

"We're hugging?" Chuck asked.

"Yes," she huffed. She took a step toward him, wrapping her arms around him as if she was trying to crush him. He held her tight as he felt his shoulder grow wet. "I'm not crying."

"And not hugging me?" Chuck asked.

"That's right," Zondra told him. She lifted her head, and kissed his cheek. "If you hurt Sarah I'll rip your nuts off. You know that, right?"

"You do know if I hurt Sarah, Molly will beat you to it, right?" Chuck replied. Zondra nodded. The door to Zondra's room opened.

"Hey, why are you hugging my girl?" Molly yelled, grinning.

"Why are you hugging my guy?" Sarah yelled, also grinning.

"Because he's my friend," Zondra replied. "And we weren't hugging."

"Zondra doesn't hug," Chuck said, the two moving away from each other. Molly walked up to him and pulled him into a hug. "Is this a hug?"

"Absolutely not," Molly said, squeezing him tight. "You do know you are forever entrenched into Sarah's life, right?"

"Promise?" Chuck asked softly. Molly gave him a squeeze, and let him go.

"Okay, you can keep him," Molly told Sarah.

"I already told her that," Zondra told Molly. Zondra and Molly turned to face each other.

"We need to go, they're about to seriously make out," Sarah said, grabbing Chuck and pulling him away.

"So, what are we going to do?" Chuck asked.

"We could go seriously make out," Sarah offered.

"Let's go," Chuck told her.

A/N: Next time, on Just Two People

"What is it that I'm smelling?"

"You won't believe me," the man answered. "But it's Spam." Chuck's eyes widened. "I know, but it's good. Trust me, you'll love it."

"Okay," Chuck replied, his voice betraying how he really felt.

"Tell you what, if you don't like it, it's on me," the man told him.

"Deal," Chuck told him. "Chuck Bartowski," he said, offering the man his hand.

"Bryce Larkin," the man replied.

I am SO evil. See you soon.
