Neville was sleeping in the Forth Year Gryffindor Boys Dormitory when he was woken up by someone touching him. He opened his eyes to see a house elf. He tried to scream, but no sound came out.
"I put a silencing charm on you, so you don't wake the other boys. It will be gone in a few minutes. I just came to warn you. The Trophy, for the last task, is a portkey, which will take you to a graveyard with death eaters."
With that, the house elf vanished.
Neville told Hermione what happened, the first thing the next morning. They went to see Professor Dumbledore, before breakfast. They did not want to take the time to go and get Jane and Luna, so they'd just tell them about it later.
Weeks later, Neville returned to the library, after being summoned to Professor Dumbledore's office. He was glad to find that the girls were still there.
"Great news," Neville said. "The cup was a portkey but it's been replaced by a new one, that's not."
Jane sighed. "Good. I wish there was a way to thank the house-elf."
Neville had thanked Mrs. Snake for her help over Easter break, but he wasn't sure if he would ever see Dobby again. Later, he thought of an idea.
In the kitchen, Neville explained what had happened.
"That must have been Dobby," one of the house elves said. "I can apparate over there tonight, and send a message for you."
"Thank you, so much," Jane said.
Neville heard horrifying screaming. He froze, in terror, and then ran to it. He was soon staring at Viktor Krum, using the cruciatus curse on Cedric. "Petrificus Totalus," Neville yelled, aiming his wand at Viktor.
Viktor went stiff and fell over.
Neville took some deep breaths, trying to calm down. He didn't know much about Viktor, but he certainly had not seemed evil.
Cedric started slowly sitting up. Neville walked up to him and gave him a hand. Cedric took it and Nevile helped him up.
"Thank you so much," Cedric said.
"It's just what anyone would have done," Neville said. "Are you okay?"
"I think so."
Neville saw the cup and started running toward it, when a blast-ended skrewt came out of nowhere and bit his leg. Neville tumbled to the ground.
Suddenly, the blast-ended skrewt went flying, and Cedric was standing over him.
"Thanks, Cedric," Neville said. "You can go and get the cup."
"But you just rescued me from Viktor. You also told me to put the egg in the water, and warned me about the dragons."
"No, Hagrid warned me about the dragons, and Jane told me her Python friend said to try putting the egg in the water.
"Well, you still told me when you didn't have to."
"But you rescued me from the Merpeople, and that blast-ended skrewt."
"But you needed help the Merpeople because you saved multiple hostages when you didn't have to."
"Help me over there, and we'll take it together."
Afterward, Neville was in the hospital wing, with his injured leg. Augusta, Jane, Hermione and Luna sat around him, and Trevor was in the bed with Neville.
Dumbledore came in, with Cedric.
"When Viktor Krum came out of the maze he was under the Imperious Curse, and when Fleur came out she was under a stunning spell. They both say that Mad-Eye Moody did it to them. We did some investigating and realized that he wasn't really Moody, but a death eater in disguise."
Mrs. Longbottom grasped. "How long has he been impersonating Moody?"
"Possibly the whole year."
"I don't think we really won," Cedric said.
"Maybe we should all split the prize money four ways."
Neville's grandmother smiled at him. "I'm so proud of you."
Jane smiled. "I am too."
