Jane's mother sat her down and told her about her engagement.
Jane smiled.
"You're not upset."
Jane was confused. "Why would I be upset, Mummy? It always upset me that Tracey didn't have a Daddy, and now she will. I doubt he'll be as good, but nobody could." She paused. "Daddy would have wanted us all to be happy."
Jane's mother smiled, took her engagement ring out of her pocket, and put it on her finger. "May I have a hug?"
Jane nodded, and they hugged.
After they pulled away, Jane's mother looked at her. "Now, is there something you'd like to tell me?" she asked.
Jane was confused.
"A while ago Neville sent me a letter asking my permission to do something, and I reluctantly said yes, and I know he did it because I can see the ring on your finger."
"Reluctantly?" Jane asked, looking down, sadly.
"Well, Neville's obviously the man for you, it's just that you're a little young to be getting married."
"Witches and wizards become legal adults at seventeen, which I will be in less than two months."
"Most people don't get married that young, but you never were most people."
Jane was finally meeting Neville's parents. She watched as Neville's mother placed a gum wrapper in his hand. She then looked at Jane's ring, paused, and seized Jane's hand.
Jane flinched and then froze, not daring to pull away. She felt bad for flitching because she knew this was good. At least, she hoped so.
Neville's mother flipped Jane's palm up and placed a gum wrapper in it. Jane looked up at her, in awe. Years ago, Jane had been honored, when Neville's mother's wand had chosen her as its new owner. Now, Neville's mother had given her a gum wrapper. That was an even bigger honor, at least Jane thought so.
"Thank you so much," Jane said.
No one had expected the Horcrux hunt to be over by the end of summer vacation, but it was. They weren't even sure if they would all be alive by the time they got all of the Horcrux's, but they were. Now Jane, Neville, Hermione, and Luna were in a compartment, on the Hogwarts Express. Just the day before, Jane had been watching her mother get married at a muggle courthouse.
"Jane, Luna, what classes are each of you taking this year?" Hermione asked.
"Care of Magical Creatures, Divination, Defence Against the Dark Arts, Charms, Transfiguration, Ancient Runes," Luna said.
"I have Care of Magical Creatures, Defence Against the Dark Arts, Charms, and Muggle Studies," Jane said.
"Nice," Hermione said.
"Hey Jane, where did you get that ring?" Luna asked.
"Neville gave it to me. We're going to get married."
"On congratulations."
"Would you like to be my maid of honor, at our wedding?"
"Nobody has ever asked me to be maid of honor at a wedding before."
"So?"
Luna nodded.
Tracey was going to be a flower girl, and so was the new step-sister, who they did not want to leave out. Sirius Black and Remus Lupin had agreed to be ushers. They did not have a ring barer, but they would probably just give the rings to Hermione and Luna.
