GOTHAM CITY
On the ground of Gotham City, one young man was taking the P.A.R.K.E.R. Industries conducted subway cars. Developed to faster, more efficient, and for half the price of the older ones.
"With the death of his only living relative, there has been. No comment or word from CEO Peter Parker, seeming to have taken a few personal days. Which is understandable, May Parker was a well-known nurse for Central City General. Loved by all and will be missed by many."
As he was listening to the news in the car, one of the second doors opened and a guy wearing clown makeup started to spray on the screen.
"Ah, thank you. Thank you." The clown commented as he took a bow. The entire car became scared when the clown started to eye everyone before noticing a woman carrying a purse. He made his way over and sat down next to her, making the woman uncomfortable. "I saw you smile." He then held his hand out as if expecting something. "I'm waiting for payment for the joke you bought. I give you funny, you give me money."
"I didn't buy anything!" She replied and looked to see everyone else look the other way.
That's when the boy on the train walked over and grabbed him by the shirt and pushed him away from her.
"Get lost, clown! No one finds you funny!" He declared.
"Oh, big man." The clown said as he went in to punch the boy, but he dodges the hit and punched him in the face. "That does it!"
The clown then ran up to him, the boy taking a few steps back when the clown started to do fake karate moves and then ran away when the doors opened.
"Jokers." He scoffed.
This boy's name was Terry McGinnis. And he had no idea what would lie ahead of him after that moment.
Kate had gotten on her plane and was looking out the window as the plane was flying over the skies of Gotham. She was sorry for how her trip went down after everything.
She knew the pain of losing someone. She lost her sister and mother when she was younger, then her sister again when she was older.
May Parker was one of the sweetest, compassionate, yet scariest women she had ever known. To see her die in the crossfire of their war, it was a shame.
Kate took a small glass up to her lips to have a sip and think about everything. Losing someone you love isn't easy, but Peter's a strong guy. He'll be able to make it through this, he just needs time.
But she couldn't stay and help. She took a few days off to be with the team, but she needed to head back and deal with the crime in Gotham. The Clown Gangs have been becoming rampant annoyances, worshipers of the Joker, even when he's been dead for almost 20 years.
That's when she started to feel something off and noticed after three hours, she hadn't heard a word from the pilot. Her paranoia began to kick in as she walked around and picked out her glove for her suit, which has nanites that creates an endless supply of batarangs.
Seems that her suspicions were worthwhile as when she approached the door, it had been blasted off and Kate ducked before it could hit her.
"What the hell?" Kate asked when she stood up and came face to face with a robot?
The robot standing in front of her had some sort of skull-like face, a body that looked like it was made out of organs and metal hands. It had a circle on its head that reminded her of Brainy.
Acting quick, Kate tossed the Batarang, wondering if that would do any damage toward it. But all the Batarang did was imprint itself inside of the robot as it then raised its hands, releasing wiring out of it.
Kate created another Batarang and cut the wiring before it could hit her and flipped backward. The robot seems to have rockets on its feet as it blasted off the ground and sled over to Kate before grabbing her by the throat.
Kate tried to use her Batarang on its arm, but that did nothing but cut the paint on it. Quickly, she kicked its knee, allowing her to break free, but that's when the robot slammed its foot against her leg.
Kate cried in pain and agony as she tried to fight through and got an idea. Grabbing the rest of her suit, she tossed the Batarang and broke the window.
As soon as the window broke, the plane started to lose altitude and the robot was tossed around the plane. Using the opening to her advantage, Kate tossed one of her sticky bomb projectiles and blew the door, allowing her to escape and fly out with her suit and gliding down with an injured leg.
PARKER-DANVERS HOUSEHOLD
Back in National City, Peter was looking for what could have happened to the Dream Team. Looking into it, there was no lead they were tracing down, no villain after the Rhino incident, which means they weren't taken prisoner to some villain.
Maybe they needed some time off?
Peter couldn't blame them, maybe they went off on a secret vacation. But...no, that doesn't add up. They would've done something like that after they came back, that way someone was here to protect the city.
But J'onn? No, he wouldn't do something like that. Even the Silver Surfer said he had some sort of trauma and sometimes remember things and other times doesn't. All he remembered he warned J'onn of a pressing danger approaching and he raced to tell everyone else. That was the last he saw of the Martian.
Cessily had left to go home and with her power under control to see if she could reconnect with her family. Everything after the funeral struck close to her heart and her relationship with her family. They assured her if things didn't work out that she was more than welcome back to stay with them if she needed to.
Kara just came home and saw that Peter was working hard on locating what happened to their friends all day. Sighing, she walked over and placed her hands on his head to massage his head. This was something she learned that made him stop thinking and relax.
"You've been at this all day?" Kara asked.
"Yeah," Peter admitted as he laid back in his seat and Kara pecked his cheek. "I can't find them anywhere. It's like they just vanished. Leaving the DEO to make it to their place should have taken them ten minutes. But some time during those two locations, they vanished."
"We'll find them," Kara assured him and sighed, the time finally coming that she needed to tell him. The last conversation with May ran through her head as she knew it was time. "But right now...there's something that I need to tell you and Angel."
"Something wrong?" Peter asked as he closed his computer and looked over to her in concern.
Kara things of how to answer that and shrugged. "Depends on how you look at it."
P.A.R.K.E.R. INDUSTRIES
Back in Central City, the team was trying to find out what they were going to do after losing STAR Labs and are finishing their (kind of) set up they have in P.A.R.K.E.R. Industries that Fox used to work in.
Barry was working on getting Gideon back online and was finishing up when Peter strolled in and saw the new additions to his once Spider-Cave.
"Hey," Peter called Barry out, getting him to turn and Cisco was working with Chester and Allegra to set up all of the gear and gadgets they were able to salvage.
"Hey, man." Barry greeted his friend, not seeing him all of yesterday after the funeral. "You okay?"
"I don't know," Peter admits with a sigh. "She's gone. And there's nothing I can do."
Barry understood that and walked up to his friend. "I know what it's like to lose someone. We're here for you if you need us."
"Thanks, man," Peter said and sighed, knowing this was going to be confusing. "I'm gonna need a few days away from all of this, so Central City's gonna be in your hands, guys."
"Don't worry, we got it handled," Cisco assured him.
"Good...because I'm going to go talk to Ashley," Peter told them.
"Who's Ashley?" Barry asked as he got back to work on the AI.
"Black Cat," Peter answered, getting their reaction from sympathy to shock after hearing that. "She's my daughter."
"Wait, what?" Chester asked in shock. "Black Cat's your daughter?"
"Yeah, I'll explain it all later. Right now, I have a meeting with the orphanage that is sheltering her." Peter told them with a sorrowful look and started to make his way out. He even got the papers of her birth from Felicia in an email just the same morning. "Take care of the city."
NATIONAL CITY
"You're...you're pregnant?" Peter asked Kara, clarifying what he was just told.
Kara smiled sheepishly as they sat on the couch, Anjelica sitting on a nearby chair in shock to hear this. "Yeah. We're having another kid."
Peter sat there in silence for a few moments before bursting out laughing and pulling kara in for a hug. "Oh, god. We're having another kid!"
Kara let out a sigh of relief to hear he was enthusiastic at the idea of having another kid and hugged her husband. "Yep."
"So, I'm now getting that younger sibling I've been asking for?" Anjelica asked jokingly as she looked between her parents after getting over the news. "Better late than never!" She then moved over and joined her parents in the embrace and turned it into a group hug.
The Parker-Danvers family was growing, becoming stronger than ever.
And that's when Peter finally struck what he was told and jumped to his feet. "Oh, god! We are not ready for another infant in this house!" He then started to pace, almost identical to when Kara told him she was pregnant with Anjelica (post-Crisis change). "We need to start getting ready. We-we need diapers. We need to get the crib from storage! Or to know if we need an entirely different crib."
"Was he like this with me?" Anjelica asked as her father started to list down things they needed before the three months were up.
"Oh, no," Kara promised her daughter with a laugh. "Last time, he fainted."
CENTRAL CITY
Ashley Moon was still in the orphanage and pondering what she was going to do next when there was a knock at the door. One of the workers, Christine Everhart, walked in and has a smile on her face. Something she never saw on her unless to impress someone else.
Someone was here.
"Hey, Ashley, we have a surprise for you," Christine informed her as she looked to the doorway. "Your father's here."
"What?" Ashley asked, shocked to hear that, and watched as Peter walked in to face Ashley with a small smile on his face.
"Hey, Ashley." Peter greeted her as calmly as he could. Looking at her, he could easily see Felicia in her, and a lot of traits she got from him. The nervous ticking with her foot thumping on the floor with her heel and scratching her arm. Even her hair and eyes were from him.
God, she looked just like the two of them fused together. She truly was his daughter.
"Is it possible to have a few minutes?" Peter asked Christine. He had explained everything (minus the superhero identities) and showed the paperwork from Felicia, and she even listed Peter for her father meaning that he was able to jump most of the process to adopt Ashley. "Five minutes? Is that possible?"
"Oh, yeah, of course," Christine said as she left the two of them alone and closed the door.
Ashley and Peter stood in silence, one of them waiting for the other to start a conversation. The last time they saw each other, it was through the lenses of their secret identities, and were at war with each other.
Ashley decided to try and break the silence. "Look, I-"
But she was immediately interrupted by Peter as he knew what she was going to say. 'I'm not who you think I am, I'm not her, etc'.
"Au-uh. Me first." Peter stopped her and then took the papers out from Felicia and showed them to Ashley. "That's you, right?"
Ashley sighed and knew that he has got her. "Yeah..."
"Figured as much," Peter said as he placed the papers down. "Now let's get to the bedrock of this...I know." He really had no idea how to start this conversation, so he decided to clear the air the best he could. "I know why you did what you did...and I'm sorry."
Ashley was looking down at her feet, waiting to be yelled at and for the police to show up and arrest her for contented murder. Out of everything she had expected him to say, that was definitely not on the list. "You're sorry?"
"I'm sorry I wasn't there for you," Peter explained why he was apologizing and reached out his hand to hold hers. "But you have to know, I never knew that you even existed."
"You didn't?" Ashley asked, that being the opposite of what Carolyn had told her. She was informed that Peter gave her up after being left by Felicia as she left the city. Yet again, now she realizes that could have been a lie to manipulate her. "What would you have done if you had known?"
Peter looked up at her and she saw that whatever he was going to say was full-on truth. "I would have taken you in, no questions asked." He then placed a hand on her cheek and watched as tears welled up behind her eyes. "And that's what I want to do right now."
"What?" Ashley asked, thinking she misheard him.
"How would you feel about coming to stay with us for a while?" Peter asked her, hoping she was open to the idea of trying to connect with him and let him be the father he would have been to her. "Please?"
Ashley was shocked at how things have changed, as she figured he would be full of vengeance and want her thrown behind bars. But here he is, her father, flesh, and blood, wanting to grow a relationship with her. Something she had wished for since she was a little girl. Every night she would pray that her parents would come to find her, that she would be welcomed back to her family. Every birthday she wished that same wish and hoped one day it would come true. And it officially has come true. Not in the same way she had dreamed it would happen, but she was more than willing to give her father a chance.
"That's all I've ever wanted," Ashley said as she let the dam go and tears swelled down her face.
Peter smiled and started to cry himself before pulling her in for a hug. He has already talked this over with Caitlin and Frost, they were okay with the thought of them sharing a roof with Ashley. She could take the spare bedroom they have for guests in the place that they already planned on moving into. The house they're in right now was getting too crowded, and even if Aster did come home, they still needed to find a larger place to stay.
Luckily they found a nice penthouse with a sort of "safe room" that they easily knew could be turned into a secret laboratory.
FREELAND
Jefferson was on his way back to his car after the end of the day when he was stuck inside the same forcefield that their friends were encased in.
"What the hell?" Jefferson asked.
CENTRAL CITY
Wade Wilson was on his way back to the Parker household when he was also incased inside of the forcefield.
"Well...my cameo is over." Wade supposed.
NATIONAL CITY
Brainy was looking into the disappearance of the Dream Team himself after being assigned the case from Alex. He had just approached the area that they were taken from when the forcefield came back and encased him.
"What?" Brainy asked when he realized just who it was. "No. NO!"
That's when the three of them were kidnapped and abducted by the same mysterious being that took the other heroes. There was something bigger at play here. Something bigger was happening.
Something was coming...for all of them.
