Author's Note: We're coming along nicely with this season. I already like some of the scenes that I wrote this week. I already can't wait to write for the next two weeks. I have them mapped out in my head. There are going to be some newbies and there might be some return characters. You're going to want to stick around for that. I can't wait to see where this season takes us. For now, enjoy this week's halo.
Halo Three: Ten no Shin'en:
The Asahara is no more. From its ashes came a new church. Murata was good, but Chisa had more potential. It showed with her rebranding of the former Asahara. The Ten no Shin'en wasn't going to be Asahara in a wig. No sir. The god decided to get bolder this time. It found a better match with Chisa.
This could create a problem for Tandeki and their game.
Kitano sat at his desk, brooding. Saika army, Dragon Zombie, Awakusu-Kai, Toramaru, Vozrozhdeniye, Mam, Nebula, and the Dollars. So many weeds in this garden. It didn't help that the Asahara, excuse me, the Ten no Shin'en popped up and was trying to take over the beautiful flowers he and his group had been cultivating for years. The therapist already took out the Blues Squares and the Yellow Scarves. Who to take out next?
Kitano sat back in his chair. Izaya's little group seemed like an easy target. Dragon Zombie could be picked off from there. The therapist didn't even have to lift a finger to do it. Still, the flowers needed proper care to bloom with "X-day" arrived. So far, the tadpoles were on their way to being perfect. In fact, the project was halfway there. Now it was time to fully test the new additions.
Kitano pulled out his phone.
"Yeah, it's me," he said. "You can go wild with them. Don't worry. You are free to make a bigger mess. I get the feeling that the police are going to be rather busy in the next few days. Yeah. Please do not contact me. If you have any problems, solve them yourselves." The therapist hung up. Kitano looked down at his tablet. So much work to do just to keep a garden. But he knew that the flowers were going to be so beautiful in the end.
Yokubo opened her eyes in the darkness. That sweet, musky scent teased her awake. She hadn't expected to see him again after their duel. But something's different now. Something's changed in this timeline. The warm sensation started to build up in her chest. Yokubo already knew what it was. She was the deity of lust after all.
Right now, she had her sights locked on a target. An idea formed in her head. Why now play with her new toy for a while? He seemed to need a little "encouragement" to play his role in this game. He's still too pure in her domain. It was in that instance she resolved how she was going to do it.
The deity sat up. In that instance, her world came to life. Spider lilies began to bloom around her. A deep perfumed scent surrounded her. Yokubo closed her eyes and breathed it in. She could see his face again. She replayed the moment she gave him her venom. It should take effect with the changes in his body. Most men would've broken by now. But he was different. They made him that way. She already could see his future. Roaming a dead world trying to fix everything. Will he succeed? She doesn't know.
But she can't dwell on that now.
Her own hunger started to rip to life. Better get up and get to feeding it. Yokubo rose to her feet and dusted herself off. First, she needed to doll herself up. She did get her magic back after all. Why not put it to good use? With one wave of her hand, Yokubo's had the looks to kill. When the rest of her domain was put together, her seductive games would begin.
Azazeal sat on a bench in the early hours of the morning. He looked up when he heard footsteps. A little smirk came across his face.
"Fancy seeing you here, Kai," the demon said. Kai perked up at the gentleman.
"Been busy?" he asked.
"You can say that," Azazeal said. Kai pointed to the spot next to him on the bench.
"May I?" he asked.
"Sure," the other demon said.
"Nice," Kai said. He sat down next to him.
"So… what happens next?" he asked. Azazeal looked up at the sky.
"I have a few guesses," he said. "Mam is certainly catching up."
"How many pieces do they have left?" Kai asked. Azazeal took a moment to think.
"It's hard to say, really," he said. "More pieces of Gabriel are dropping from the sky around the world. And washing up on shore." Kai gave him an odd look.
"Including his…?" he asked. Azazeal shook his head.
"No, but I know where that piece is," he said. Kai raised an eyebrow at him.
"Are you going to say anything?" he asked. The other demon shook his head. Now Kai was really intrigued.
"Really? I thought that you would jump at the chance to tell Mam where it is or even track it down yourself," he said. The other demon smirked and shook his head.
"Nah, I am just going to watch that part unfold," he said. He paused before looking around for a moment and adding, "Besides there is one more thing that I have to take care of before I make my move with the arch angels." His companion's eyes lit up.
"Oh! You mean that little tadpole girl?" he asked.
"Why yes," Azazeal said. "What do you have to do?" Kai took a moment to think about that.
"I don't even know where to begin," he said.
Things are different with Ten no Shin'en. First off, they come across as gentler. Plus, they went after smaller targets. Chisa knew how to pick them.
First came the housewives. Just the bored and desperate ones. The ones who felt underappreciated. They weren't too hard to find. Chisa seemed to know how to pick them. It would be just one of the followers to turn up to the front door and talk to them. Nothing too extensive. Just a simple chat about their well-being. Ten days later, the size of the church doubled.
But we're getting ahead of ourselves here. We need to back with the story a little bit.
Chisa sat in her dressing room, looking in the mirror.
"Who are you exactly?" she asked.
I am nobody. I have no name.
The woman frowned. "That's no good." She sat back in her chair.
"I'm going to give you a name," Chisa said.
Why?
The woman shrugged. "I don't know. I have to call you something. I just can't refer to you as just you." Chisa took a moment to think. Only one name came to mind.
"Saku."
Saku? What kind of a name is that?
She sat back and folded her arms across her chest. "I think it's cute." There was no response. For now, it was going to have to play along. Names would give the human vessel control. It was going to have to do something before it lost itself. Still, this was its only chance to be worshipped again. It would have to grin and bear it a little bit longer.
Meanwhile, Hina was watching from the crack in the door. A look of unease came across her face. Who was Chisa-sama talking to? Something inside of her was screaming at her to run away. Hina paused when she noticed Chisa's reflection seemingly looking at her. There was a wicked smile that formed on her face. Hina covered her mouth as she backed up. The girl turned and ran away.
Saku saw Hina. She could be a problem. It was going to have to deal with her later.
Kana's doorbell rang around eleven in the morning.
"Coming!" she shouted. The woman looked out the peephole. Though, she didn't understand the point. Kana had done this before when those girls from the Asahara came by last month to recruit her. However, the robes looked different. They went from orange and white to red and white like Shinto priestesses.
Might as well get this over with.
Kana opened the door.
"Yes?" she asked. The twenty-something woman straightened up.
"How are you feeling today?" she asked in a trembling voice. Kana raised her eyebrow.
"No, I am not interested in joining your cult," she said. "Have a good day." Kana was about to close the door when the recruiter lifted her chin.
"When was the last time you took a drink?" she asked. Kana froze.
"Excuse me?" she asked. The girl was looking into the older woman's eyes. Her baby face and doe eyes made the situation even worse.
"You're struggling with drinking, aren't you?" the recruiter asked. "For how long?"
"Who told you this?" Kana asked. Her hands started to tremble as she fought to keep herself together. The girl cocked her head to the side.
"You don't want to lose your husband and that cute little boy of yours to the bottle, don't you?" she asked. Kana looked so pale as she thought that she would throw up.
"You are guessing, aren't you?" the woman asked. "You or one of your little friends must have been eavesdropping on my therapy session. That was it, wasn't it? You're just trying to get into my head to make me join you, aren't you?" Kana gripped the frame of the door.
"Well, it's not going to work!" she snapped. "Please leave or I will call the police!" Her voice came out as trembling. Did her "visitor" catch on? Kana couldn't tell.
"Are you still taking pills?" the girl asked. "I know why you are trying to escape with pills and drink. It's because he hurt you, didn't he?" Now these were starting to get uncomfortable.
"Who are you?" Kana asked. She dug around in her brain for an excuse to slam the door in her face. Her phone was across the room charging. The cordless phone was also charging. Plus, the main landline was in the kitchen. Kana felt her heart pounding against her chest. She saw what this little bitch was trying to do. She slowly shook her head.
"Please leave," Kana pleaded. The younger woman held out her hand.
"Please, let us help you," she said.
"No! Go away!" Kana shouted. She shoved the girl out of the doorway and slammed the door in her face. Kana sank to the floor panting and trembling. Tears formed in her eyes. What the hell was that? She felt like she was choking as she clutched her chest.
When she got it together, Kana crawled over to her phone. Her hands were still shaking as she scrolled through the numbers.
"Hello?" Aya asked on the other line. Kana fell back onto the floor.
"I just had a panic attack," she whimpered.
"Okay, do you want me to talk you through it?" her therapist asked. Kana slowly closed her eyes.
"Yes, please," she said.
"Okay, tell me what happened," Aya said. Her patient took a breath and told her everything that had happened up until this point.
The Dante Killer sat back onto the couch. Let's see, what circle was next? She went over the circles in her head. Limbo, lust, gluttony, greed, wrath, and heresy. Ah yes! Violence was next. This would be in three parts for three circles. Three victims. The first one was violence against one's neighbors.
DK frowned.
Too bad Shizuo was taken off the table. Oh well. There were plenty of other targets to work from. Just not another member tied to the Awakusu. That would be too risky for the time being. DK smiled as she enjoyed her last kill that took place three days ago. She couldn't remember the last time she had so much fun.
"Found anyone else yet?" Saori asked.
"Nope," Yukio said. He scrolled through his phone. Meanwhile, Akiko sat silent. Should she say something? The girl had been sitting on a secret for months. There wasn't a reason she was keeping this to herself. There wasn't a reason to say anything either. So, Akiko looked down at her hands.
"We managed to find Yokio. Or rather, he found us," Yukio said. "There's still eighteen of us uncounted for."
"Seventeen."
Yukio, Itori, and Saori looked over at Akiko.
"What did you say?" Yukio asked as he walked up to her. She lifted her head as she tried not to smirk.
"I said we have seventeen of us uncounted for," the girl said. The adults looked at each other.
"You mean you know where they are?" Yukio asked.
"Uh-huh," Akiko said, nodding.
"And why didn't you tell us?" he asked.
"You never asked," she said.
"And when were you going to say something?" he asked. Akiko shrugged and shook her head.
"I don't know," she said. Saori grabbed him by the arm and waist.
"Calm down," she whispered. Yukio wasn't one to hit girls, but Akiko was testing him right now. Instead, however, he took a breath.
"You're right," he said. The tadpole turned to Akiko.
"Do you know where they are?" he asked. The younger girl rose to her feet.
"Follow me," she said. Akiko vanished into thin air. The adults looked at each other before following behind. Did they trust her? Hell no! But they were pushed onto the ropes here. They were going to take any lead they could get at this point.
Aya picked up the phone.
"It's me," she said. The therapist leaned back in her chair. It looked like Asahara 2.0 was going to be more trouble than they thought.
"Something's changed about them," Aya said. "What do I want you to do?" She took a moment to think.
"Hm… For now, keep an eye on them," she said. "Don't do anything else yet. Just want and report back to me." Aya paused.
"Hm?" she asked. "You let me talk to Kitano-sensei. He might already know. Just let me gauge and get back to you. Anything else? Okay, good. Let me know what you find. Goodbye." Aya hung up the phone. She sighed and rubbed her forehead.
"Oh, shit," the therapist said to herself. She had to stop this before it got out of hand.
Ryota stood up in the lab. Osamu turned his head.
"I'm hungry," Ryota said.
"Okay," he said.
"Have fun!" Yuuko said, waving. Her brother waved back and headed out the door.
"You just let him roam free?" Daichi asked.
"You do the same thing," Osamu said.
"True," the younger man said. "But I do reign her in from time to time." Yuuko pouted when he said that.
"But you always let him roam around the city," Daichi said. "Why is that?" Osamu shrugged.
"He's like me in a way," he said. His partner raised his eyebrow.
"A soul-eating deity?" he asked.
"We aren't fans of authority," Osamu said. "And besides…" The man pulled out his phone.
"I have this to keep track of his movements," he said. "I do call him from time to time."
"Heh," was all Daichi said. Osamu shoved his phone back into his pocket and went back to work. His partner said nothing and did the same. Yuuko flopped back and groaned.
"I'm bored!" she complained.
"Then go out and do something," Daichi said. "You have your horse back after all." Yuuko quickly sat up.
"Oh that's right!" she said. She hummed as she walked to the door.
"Don't do anything too reckless," Daichi said.
"Yes!" Yuuko said. She waved him off as she walked out the door.
And how does Saku feel about the tadpoles? Well, it wants to be worshipped. This can't be stressed enough. The plan is going well. However, there could be a hitch.
The tadpoles were growing stronger each day. They were slowly turning less human. People around them took notice. How could they not? The tadpoles stand out. That isn't their choice. Tandeki kept forcing this onto them. Their powers, their charms, their strength, their knowledge, and everything else in between. Things are about to be ramped up. It won't be long before all eyes are on them.
Not just the normal humans either.
The demons see them. Some seem to like them. Others, not so much. Now even the deities are starting to notice the tadpoles. So much attention can't be good, right? There will be more to come. As of right now, the tadpoles have no choice but to go along. Can't get any worse, right?
In any case, Saku doesn't like them. It doesn't like the tadpoles at all. There should be no other gods before it.
There should only be me!
These tadpoles were going to have to go. If it was going to build a religion revolving around them, they were going to have to be eliminated. Saku and Chisa now have a new mission to kill them all.
December 15, 2015
An ambulance with a wailing siren pulled up at the entrance. The EMTs wheeled a patient on the gurney. There was so much going on around this patient. Doctors got right to work in saving their life.
"We have a female patient in serious condition," a nurse said. "We have her stable for now, but we don't know if she will make it through the morning. We will keep monitoring her through the night."
Sharaku Mikage lay in the hospital bed with a tube down her throat. She had two black eyes, broken ribs, and internal organs. There were several questions that needed answers. The nurse put in a phone call to the police.
