Author Note: The Twilight Saga is a franchise owned by one, Stephanie Meyer. This is a fanfiction based on that franchise. I do not own Twilight or any of it's characters. I only own Becca Swan and this story.
A low rumble in the sky shook Becca to the core as she finished her cigarette. She had finally told one person about her and Edward's relationship, her father. Charlie was a bit surprised when she broke the news to him, though Becca couldn't exactly see how. They had been tied by the waist for the last three months. Edward had the bright idea that he wanted to come off as a perfect gentlemen, which he was most of the time, a meet her father after school that Friday. Which came sooner than Becca had wished. This façade of a normal teenage life was weighing on her. How much longer would she be able to keep it up? Ever since joining the Vigil she had become accustom to living the so called double life, but she was single then. She had no interest in dating ever. But that all changed when Edward came along. Boys, they complicate everything.
Tossing the smoke from her hand, Becca headed back inside to find her father cleaning his shotgun. "Is that really necessary?"
Charlie looked up at her with a smile across his face, "Hunting season is coming up."
"Uh huh? And when have you ever hunted a deer with a double barrel shotgun?" Becca remarked, opening up the fridge. She grabbed her father a beer and set it down on the table as she watched Edward's Volvo pull up through the kitchen window. Charlie only smirked wider, the corners of his mouth curling into a maniacal grin. "Right, on that note, I have a date with Edward."
Charlie's smile all but faded at the sound of the name of the boy who was interested in his daughter, "I'm glad you're happy and all but he's a little old for you, isn't he?" Charlie cracked his beer open as Becca pulled a can of lemon seltzer from the fridge and proceed to open and drink it.
"I'm eighteen, he's seventeen. I thought you liked the Cullens?" she commented as her father sighed, pausing to sip his beer from cleaning the gun.
"I thought you didn't like any boys in town." Really, Dad? Becca thought to herself as Charlie's grim face glanced out the window.
"Luckily, Edward lives outside of town. Technically." She knew her father was uncomfortable with this situation. Yet, she would rather be here, dealing with this than facing Gallia.
"That's great." his sigh of sarcasm came as he placed the overly clean gun down on the table.
"Well, since you love him so much, he's right outside." Becca smirked, her smile mimicking Charlie's maniacal grin from before as Charlie all but choked on his beer.
"He is?"
"He wants to meet you." With that, Becca walks out of the kitchen into the foyer to open the front door. Behind her she can hear Charlie cock the shotgun. "Maximum intimidation effect." Becca whispered to herself as she opened the door. Edward stood in a black long sleeved shirt, blue jeans with the ankles rolled up and black high tops. His dark amber hair was hidden under a blue baseball cap. "Don't say I didn't warn you." She smiles, turning but catches a glint of Edward's smile. As they enter the kitchen, Charlie stands; leaning against the table, gun in plain view. His eyes pass over Edward a few times; unimpressed.
"Chief Swan, I'm Edward Cullen. I'd like to formally introduce myself." Edward holds out his hand as Charlie looks down at it and ignores it. Becca rolls her eyes and glares at her father who smiles in return.
"Hi, Edward." at least he's being polite.
"Becca won't be out too late tonight. She's just playing baseball with my siblings and I."
"Baseball, huh?" Charlie smirks as he sits back down, finishing his beer, "Good luck, girl has one hell of a swing." Charlie smiles as Becca was she scoots passed Edward and grabs her seltzer off the counter.
"I'll take good care of her, I promise." Edward says as Becca reaches his side again. This time Charlie looks at Edward with zero emotion in his face. Absolute slate.
"She can take care of herself, no worries." Becca shook her head as Edward and her turned to leave. Charlie knew her well, he knew Becca could take care of herself. And Becca knew her father. He knew she was strong, he just didn't know why.
As Edward arrived at the grassy field, he pulled up next to Emmett's jeep. Becca turned the black baseball cap she was wearing around and pulled her ponytail out the back. Edward meeting her father had gone smoother than expected. Though she was genuinely upset when her father didn't shake Edward's hand. Shaking her head, she attempted to change the subject for herself. "Since when do vampires like baseball?"
Edward leans back in his driver seat, stretching before he gets out and is at her side opening her door, "It's the American pastime. Besides there's a thunderstorm coming. It's the only time we can play."
Becca gets out and notices how Edward falls in step with her, "Why?"
"You'll see." he smirks, showing the slightest hint of his fangs. As they cross the field, Esme smiles and waves. She is wearing a red baseball jersey and a red hat. Old Redsox fan, I see. Becca keeps that in mind for a later use. Esme hugs Becca who returns it. Though slightly saddened, she wished her father could have been this welcoming before.
"Glad you're here." Esme comments as she leads Becca from Edward, "we need an umpire."
Emmett comes up from behind Becca and hands her a bat, "She thinks we cheat."
"Let Becca hit first!" Edward calls from the outfield. "Dad says she's got one hell of a swing." He winks at Becca though not entirely sure that she can see it. Becca steps up to the plate, twirling the bat around her wrist before getting into the stance. Alice steps up to the pitching mound, she smiles at Becca before throwing her a curve ball. Becca hits the ball as hard as she can, the ball soars through the air and into the woods. Edward grins as he takes off at lightning speed into the woods. Before she realizes it, he speeds past her as she rounds third base. "Strike!"
Becca smiles though squinting at Edward and shakes her head. Carlisle walks over and pats her on the back, "Good hit. Just remember, call em like you see em, Becca."
