'Finally awake I see.'
It was Connar that fully woke him. Michael stretched his muscles and opened his eyes. The infirmary was dark as always. He hadn't felt this rested in ages. Connar handed him blood and he gladly took it. After gulping down 2 bags, he was finally satisfied.
'I thought you were going to be harder to deal with but seems like the rest did you well.'
Michael hopped off the bed and found his shoes and clothes waiting for him. He put them on and followed Connar to his office.
'How are you?'
'Haven't slept this well in a long time. How long was I out?' Michael said as he sat down in a chair. This time on the opposite side where he would normally sit.
'Almost 2 days. Do you remember what happened?' Connar asked.
Michael knew all the questions in the book, he even added some himself. But to be released, he needed to answer them. He decided to skip a few steps and answer with more details than needed.
'After the mission, I treated Selene for bullet wounds and a stabbing. The blade was coated, which prevented her healing. You brought back the blade with a piece missing. With your help and that of Varga and David, I removed the missing piece. David ordered me to rest, which was granted I do here.' Michael answered.
'Michael, stop answering the questions before I ask them. So again, what is the last thing you remember?'
'David dismissing me from the infirmary to rest.' Michael sighed. He wanted to go to Selene and hold her in his arms again.
'Good. Are you ok with that?'
'I remember being too tired to fight and to be honest, I didn't mind taking a break. I knew I needed the rest. I probably should have let you take over a lot sooner.'
'What do you mean?' Connar deviated from his list of questions.
'Besides the rule of not working on your loved ones?' Michael asked.
'I thought you were aiming on that but go on.' Connar answered.
'I need to apologize to Eve, Selene, Varga and David and I am not sure if the list is longer. I ran into David when I just got back from the safe house, I might even have slammed into him on my way out of the infirmary. You were there when I snapped at Varga and Selene…' Michael sighed at the memory. 'Selene cares more of others than she does herself. She either doesn't want to know, or she forgets there are people looking out for her too. She doesn't want any help. At some point, I yelled at her out of frustration. I wasn't in the correct state of mind to treat her. My frustration got the better of me.'
'Why are you this calm?'
'I figured you would have gone against orders and woke me up if something had happened or was about to happen. Since Selene is not here, she is back to her usual self and bossing everyone around. Maybe even against orders.' Michael explained. 'I am anxious to see her again, so I thought I would speed up the process and cooperate. You know I have written some of the rules.'
'I should have known. And you also know you are good to go. Just don't overdo it and feed again in an hour. Give Selene my regards.'
'Thanks Connar. But before I go, I want to hear what happened.'
'I was hoping Selene would explain.'
'You know she would leave out the most important parts.'
'All right. When you were asleep for about an hour, Eve stormed in and started checking you and Selene. You taught her well, she will be an excellent medic one day.
'Selene started waking up, looking a lot better. All wounds had healed and she wasn't in any pain anymore. I gave her a blood bag and she gulped it down as if she hadn't fed in over a week.
'David was needed for council business, but Varga and Eve had stayed to keep a close eye on the both of you. He too, was amazed by her quick recovery. I disconnected her IVs and gave her more blood. We observed her for another hour. She walked around the room like nothing had happened and I discharged her to your chambers.'
'Are you sure she is still there?' Michael smirked. 'She loves to defy orders.'
'Actually, she didn't defy orders. Varga has been keeping her and Eve in your chambers for the past 2 days. I came by every now and then to bring blood and check up on her. Maybe this time, you can do the delivery.'
'Sure will.' Michael got up and almost cheerfully walked to the fridge to get enough blood for a week. He wasn't planning on leaving their chambers anytime soon.
Michael rushed to his chambers, eager to see Selene again. He turned the corner and saw three guards posted at the entrance. Someone was there. He greeted them and decided to imitate Connar's knock to surprise them.
'Come in Connar.' Varga answered.
Michael opened the door and walked in.
'You can put the blood in the fridge and…' Varga started, but he was cut off by Eve bumping into him. 'Dad!' She ran past Varga and grabbed Michael in an almost bone crushing hug. He dropped the bag and hugged her tightly.
'You're finally awake!' Eve said with a muffled voice.
Through Eve's hair he saw Selene standing in the doorway. She was dressed in a simple shirt and pants, but she looked more beautiful than ever. Her smiles were rare, but they lightened up the room.
Eve let go and she too had a bright smile. Eve was back to her normal self and Michael was glad. It probably helped Eve that her mother was up and about. He gave her a kiss on her forehead before he headed for Selene. She had been patiently waiting and probably enjoying the view. Michael gently took her hands in his, kissing her on the lips. If Varga and Eve weren't in the room, he would have taken her to their bedroom.
'I have missed you.' Selene whispered.
'I missed you too.'
Michael let her go as he felt two pairs of eyes at the back of his head. He grabbed the bag and started loading the fridge.
'How long are you planning to stay here for?' Varga smirked.
'We really need to find you a girl Varga.' Michael winked. 'Why is there an extra guard at the door?'
'It's Eve's.' Varga replied. 'You cannot leave the little princess alone anymore. She is causing trouble everywhere she goes.'
'Stop calling me little princess!' Eve grunted.
'Do I even want to know?' Michael asked Selene.
'Probably not.'
Varga and Eve kept at each other for a while. Selene listened to them with a smile on her face. Although Michael was enjoying both the bickering and Selene's smile, he wanted to be alone with her.
'Why don't you fight it out in the training area?' Michael suggested.
'Come on Eve, your parents want us as far away as possible, so they can go at it.'
'I did not need to know that.' Eve said.
'Go!' Selene warned.
'I am sorry my Queen, would you prefer me saying making love or is plain sex better?' Varga mocked.
'Varga!' Selene almost growled.
Michael came between the two and put a hand on Selene's arm to stop her.
'And we're gone.' Eve said. She grabbed Varga and pushed him out the door.
'So, what do you prefer?' Michael dared Selene.
'That depends on the situation.' Selene winked.
'Care to elaborate?'
'Why don't we just start with some love making and let our basic instincts take over in the end?'
And with that, Selene dragged him into the bedroom.
Selene had been right that it could be both. They started sweet and gentle but by the end they had seen every corner in their chambers. They lay on the bed, panting. When Selene got up, Michael looked at her with longing.
'I won't be long, my love.' And she disappeared into the common room.
Michael stretched his muscles and relaxed back in his pillow. It had only been a couple of days of which he had been unconscious for most of it, but it felt like they hadn't seen each other in ages. Selene came back in and tossed him a blood bag.
'I though we both needed some energy for round two.' She teased.
'Are you sure that's what the doctor has ordered?' Michael replied.
'You tell me, Doctor.' Selene gave him a passionate kiss before she laid back on his bare chest.
Michael stroked her hair. He couldn't help thinking about the first time they met. He would never forget her eyes, her beautiful green eyes.
'Tell me what you are thinking.' Selene looked up to see his face. 'Your heart is beating faster.'
'Thinking about the day I met you. Who would have thought we would be here so many years after?' Michael mused.
'Such a glorious day it was. Me hunting you down and pushing you up a wall. Lucian turning you, all the shooting and turning your life upside down.' Selene replied. 'Blood, guns and death.'
'I prefer to look at it as love, life and a beautiful daughter. You do remember her, don't you?' Michael teased.
'Tell me, knowing all this, would you do it again?' Selene asked.
'Honestly? Yes, I would. We have been through a lot, but here I am laying with the most beautiful women and together we have the most beautiful daughter. I would never trade my life for an ordinary life without you. Wouldn't you?'
'I am not sure.' Selene hesitated. She got up to see his face. He was confused by her reaction and waited for her to continue.
'Don't give me that look. You know I love you and Eve and our life together.' She started. 'I just never pictured it to start the way it did. I saved your life, but it feels like I ruined it at the same time. Next to turning you immortal, you had to deal with being a direct descendent of Alexander Corvinus and being on the run. And right when we could start our lives together, we got frozen for twelve years and got a daughter we didn't know about. After that you died, were resuscitated, brainwashed and ended up here again. You have to admit it is quite a roller coaster.'
Summing up their lives together like that, Michael had to admit it wasn't the best start ever. And she didn't even include the small stuff that happened over the years or the hell she went through when he was presumably death.
'Putting it like that, yes we've been through hell and back. But don't you think it brought us closer together? You gave me a new life, freed me from a freezer, gave me a daughter and made sure I knew who I was. And all this time, I loved you.' Michael said, kissing her forehead. 'I will always love you.'
Apparently, those were the correct words to get Selene going again. She threw the empty bags across the room and pulled him towards her in a split second.
