The Sorcerer's Stone

Months passed after that. Godric saw a therapist and Lily continued to slowly heal and get to know her family. Harry's class with Dumbledore was going well and no one could accuse him of favoritism since they knew a member of the board, a Transfiguration Master, came in and tested Harry. The board member wasn't a friend of the family.

Harry still didn't make an effort to make friends. He was civil to Ron but that was because he was Godric's best friend. Godric had more friends and so did Ron. They changed the way they acted so many liked them.

Before the school year started Dumbledore had gone to them and asked for their help guarding the sorcerer's stone. Flamel was no longer comfortable doing that and requested the stone back. Dumbledore removed the stone without alerting the staff. He had felt the dark lord's magic and hoped to trap him in the room.

Dumbledore did hope he was wrong. He did alert the ministry of it. Fudge laughed it off and told Dumbledore he was paranoid. He hoped that he was and told Fudge that. The minister told him to call if he felt the magic again or if he trapped him. He laughed and said he might be going senile.

That made his respect for the minister go down. He did end up calling the aurors. Not for the dark lord but for a troll. Quirrell had come in during the Halloween feast. He told them there was a troll in the dungeons before feinting.

He made sure all the students stayed put. He was going to have them go back to their dorms but he then realized two things. The first being that the Slytherin dorms were located in the dungeons and secondly the troll might have left the dungeons. He had them stay put and left behind half the teachers. The other half went with him.

"How did a troll get in?" Harry heard Sue Li ask.

"Someone let it in." Harry answered. "That's the only way. The wards prevent dangerous creatures like that onto school grounds so someone with knowledge of the wards around the school and the skills to handle a troll had to let in."

"Why?" Terry Boot asked.

"No idea. It could be a prank or someone that wants to hurt students, staff, or both. They could also try and use it as a distraction." He said when he noticed Quirrell was missing.

"Oh."

That made Harry suspicious. Quirrell had fainted after he told them about the troll. Now the man had disappeared. It was just a tad suspicious.

Soon the teachers returned. The troll had been dealt with and they were allowed back to their dorms. Before they left Harry made a comment.

"I hope professor Quirrell is okay. Must have been bad if he's not here." He said before he went with his aunt.

That made Dumbledore and Severus frown. Quirrell wasn't with them when they went after the troll and he wasn't in the hall. The two shared a look before Severus disappeared. Albus did the same. The rest went back to their room.

Albus knew the minute Quirrell entered the room that housed the mirror. He smirked and quickly called Severus and the aurors. Severus was to keep an eye on the students. Albus took the aurors to the room. Everyone was shocked to see Quirrell with the dark lord on the back of his head. The man saw Albus and removed his soul from Quirrell before escaping. Quirrell died the second he was no longer possessed.

The body was taken back to the ministry so that an investigation could be done. An auror searched Quirrell's room. They took back everything. The minister came by to apologize.

"I'm so sorry Albus. I really didn't believe you and I should have." He said.

"You should have. Even if you didn't then you should have at least investigated it. Voldemort," He nearly rolled his eyes when Fudge flinched. "Was here near the students. He was near Godric Potter, the boy that defeated him. He was near Harrison Reese, Godric's cousin. He could have done so much damage." He glared.

"I know. You're right and I'm sorry. I promise I will do better."

"You better." He warned.

Fudge left after that. Albus sighed and got to work. He would have to check the wards as well as hire a new defense teacher. He wondered how he was going to tell the parents of what had transpired.

Albus sent out letters to all the parents or guardians and told them what happened. He didn't leave anything out since he knew they deserved to know. He sent a letter to the bank and asked to hire a curse breaker to check on the wards. Finally he sent a letter to a friend and asked him to be a temporary defense teacher.

Once done he checked on the students once more. He finally went to bed. He knew that the next day he would be needing his energy.
