Before the Party
(Godric's Twelfth Birthday)
Godric was very excited. It was finally his birthday. This year he had more family to share it with. It was smaller than his previous birthday but he was okay with that. It would just be friends and family. There would be no fans there. The minister wouldn't be there either.
Lily had been pissed when she learned what that man had pulled. Despite her being held captive and being in a forced comatose state she was a force to be reckoned with. Fudge was too afraid of Lily to try anything.
"Is there anything you need me to do, mum?" Godric asked.
"No sweetie. You go play with Ron and Harry." She said.
"Harry will just make me do homework despite us already finishing it." He pouted.
"Get over it." She rolled her eyes.
"Mum!" He whined.
"Yes dear?" She smiled at him.
He huffed. "You're so mean." He pouted and left the room.
"Silly boy." She smiled.
Godric went up to his room. Ron was looking through his chocolate cards. Harry was sitting on the bed. He was of course reading a book. This one was about healing potions. Godric rolled his eyes and went over to Ron.
"Hey Ron. Want to go play outside?" He asked.
"Sure. Harry?" He looked at the dark haired wizard.
"No thank you."
"Okay." The boys said.
"Have fun." He said as he turned the page.
"Thanks." They left the room.
James was already outside waiting for the boys. He figured they would want to play quidditch. They couldn't play unsupervised so he waited for them. Godric smiled and thanked his dad.
"You're welcome. Where's Harry?"
"In my room, reading."
"Okay."
The two boys grabbed their broom and James let the toy snitch go. The two threw the ball around as they kept watch for the snitch. Godric was the first one to spot it and managed to catch it.
"Aw man." Ron groaned.
"Maybe next time."
"Yeah right." He snorted. "That's okay. I'm training to be a keeper."
"That's great Ron." He smiled at his best friend.
"Thank you." He blushed.
"You're welcome."
"Oh no." Ron groaned.
"What?" Godric asked.
"Ginny's here." He said.
"Oh no."
Ginny, Ron's sister, was crushing on Godric. The past year it had gotten worse. All year he received disturbing letters from her. Ginny had been grounded on several occasions because of it. Luckily Molly was right next to her daughter.
"Godric!" Ginny screeched, causing the boys to flinch.
"Don't!" Molly warned her.
"Yes mum." She pouted.
"Good. Happy birthday Godric."
"Thank you Mrs Weasley."
"You're welcome." She looked at her daughter. "You may hand it over." She said.
The youngest redhead brightened at that. She took a gold wrapped present with a red bow out of her pocket and handed it over to him. Godric took it.
"Thank you."
"You're welcome. Open it!" She demanded.
"I know you are excited for him to see what you got him but you can't be rude." Her mum scolded.
"Yes mum." She scowled. "Sorry Godric."
"Forgiven." He said.
He untied the bow and tore the wrapping paper off. It revealed a box. He opened it and found that it was a t-shirt. Molly unshrunk it and he found that it was red with the Gryffindor lion on the front. He liked it.
"This is great." He said. "Thank you."
"You're welcome." She grinned.
"Let's go Ginny." Molly said.
"But mum-"
"Don't start. Let's go." She said firmly.
"Yes mum." She sniffled.
The two left and the boys breathed out a sigh of relief. Godric called a house elf to take the shirt inside to be washed and put into his closet. Ron and Godric went back to playing. They noticed that Harry had come outside and was sitting next to James and watching them.
"Do you want to join us?" Ron asked.
"No thank you. I'm not a fan of flying."
"Okay."
The boys played and Harry watched until it was time for lunch. Lily brought out a picnic basket for them. They ate lunch and talked.
"Do you know what you want to do when you are older, Ron?" Lily asked.
"Either a quidditch player or an auror." He said.
"Very nice." She smiled.
"Thank you." He blushed.
"What would be your first choice?" Harry asked.
"Quidditch player."
"Did you know the Chudley Cannons are having a free summer program next year?" He asked.
"What?" They looked at Harry in shock.
"Here." He handed over the magazine he had read the article in.
Ron grabbed it and began reading. Godric read over his shoulder. When they finished reading they handed it over to Lily. She read it and gave it to James. He gave it back to Harry when he finished.
"That's cool." Ron smiled. "I'll have to ask my parents. Can't believe my favorite team is doing a summer program."
"You can even get credit for it at Hogwarts." Harry told him.
"Really?"
"Yes. It might help you become the reserve keeper for your house team." He said.
"Awesome." He grinned. "Thanks for telling me."
"You're welcome. What do you want to be Godric?" He asked.
"An auror like dad." The redhead answered.
"That's cool." He said.
"Thanks." He smiled widely. "What about you?"
"I want to get my mastery in herbology and potions and open up my own potion/apothecary/greenhouse." He told them.
"Should have known the first part. You love potions and herbology." Godric said.
"I do." He smiled softly.
"Your business will boom." Ron said.
"I hope so."
"You boys have such great dreams." Lily smiled.
"Thanks mum/aunt Lily/Lady Potter."
"You're welcome. You can call me Lily, Ron." She said.
"Sorry." He muttered.
"What is it?" She asked.
"Nothing."
"Ron?"
Godric gave his friend a pat on the shoulder before turning towards his mum. "The person pretending to be you never allowed him to call her anything but Lady Potter. She said it was the only way to respectfully address her."
"I see." She closed her eyes and took a deep breath to calm herself down.
"Sorry." Ron repeated.
"I'm not angry at you." She told him.
"I know but I brought it up." He bit his lip.
"It's okay. It will be brought up. She lived here and pretended to be me for almost eleven years." She said.
"Okay."
"Let's change the subject." She said.
"The mutt's back." Harry said. "And so is Mr Lupin."
Harry seemed to like teasing and messing with Sirius while he was polite and distant with Remus. The werewolf knew that it had nothing to do with his status as a werewolf so he wasn't offended by it. Sirius and the others were highly confused by Harry's playfulness towards Sirius since he didn't act that way normally.
Harry was just happy that Granger wasn't there. Since learning she came from multiple pureblood families Sirius tried helping her. She just felt entitled and was pissed that she wouldn't be inheriting any money or heirlooms. She was also pissed that she didn't get any family gifts. Dean learned that he had inherited family gifts from both the Prince family and the Shacklebolt family.
Sirius would bring her around in hopes of her at least socializing but that always ended with Granger insulting everyone. They were all glad Harry never tried to use his smarts against them. He never acted like a know-it-all. When they had done their homework she would tell them the answer while Harry would help them figure it out.
"I'm not a mutt!" Sirius hissed.
"That's your opinion." Harry smirked.
"Brat." He sulked.
"Thank you."
Sirius rolled his eyes and went over to Godric and hugged him. "Happy birthday pup."
"Thanks Siri."
"Happy birthday cub." Remus said.
"Thanks Remy."
"Feeling old yet?" Sirius asked.
"Not yet. Maybe I will once I'm ancient like you." He teased.
"Hey!" He pouted as the others laughed.
"That's for horses."
"Ugh! You children are brats!" He pouted.
"Thank you." Harry and Godric both said with a smirk.
"Ugh!" He groaned once more.
"Are you both ready to help me get everything set up?" Lily asked Remu and Sirius while she hid a smile.
"We are." The two confirmed.
"Great. Have you eaten yet?"
"I have." Remus said.
"So did I."
"Great. I've finished so let's get started."
"Okay." The three left.
"I thought the party wasn't going to be too big?" Ron asked.
"It's not. Mum wants to get the tables charmed so that bugs can't get into it and so that nothing gets too warm."
"Oh. Okay."
"Are you boys done?" James asked, speaking for the first time in a while.
"We are." They confirmed.
"Okay." Everything disappeared.
"Are you okay uncle James?"
"I'm just a little tired kiddo."
"We'll go inside and you can take a nap." Godric said.
"Are you sure?" He asked them.
"Yes." The three said.
"Thanks boys." He smiled at them.
"You're welcome."
Harry, Godric, and Ron went inside. They went to the living room. Ron and Harry played chess and Godric watched. He didn't feel like losing that day. Ron liked having someone new to play and Harry was really good at it. This was where the adults found them a couple hours later.
"How long this time?" Lily asked.
"They have been playing for two hours but starting at the board and not moving for twenty minutes. It's Ron's turn." Godric said.
"Oh goodness. The party will be starting soon."
"CHECKMATE!" Ron suddenly yelled.
"What?" Harry started at the board in shock. "Aw man!" Ron had indeed won. "Good job."
"Thank you." He smiled.
"You're welcome."
"Now that your game is done please go get ready." She said.
"Okay!"
