The next day came too quickly. Sam and the rest of the pack had stopped by my house to pick me up. Edward had stayed as long as he could, but ended up leaving early in the morning, after having some breakfast with me. Alice asked to stay here for now. She had a bout of nausea and vomiting all morning. She was curled up in Rene's room for the time being. Alice was fully intending to move in. It was something we would have to figure out when I got back. I don't see why she couldn't. Rene probably wouldn't have any issues with it. It's her adoptive parents that might end up throwing a fit. They were so protective of her, they truly did care for her deeply. I think if Alice allowed them to share their side of the story, she might forgive them. But she just wasn't ready for that right now.
I wasn't sure what to wear to this meeting. Sam suggested something modest and respectable. Nothing that would bring any unwanted attention. I decided on a simple black dress, I left my hair down in a single braid. I did want to look nice. This would be the first time that I got to see all of Edward's pack. I wanted to make a good first impression.
The meeting location was in Hoodsport, a small town of less than four hundred. It had been a long three hour drive from the reservation. We took three cars, and I ended up with Sam and Leah. I was thankful for that, anything would be better than getting stuck riding up with Paul. Although, Sam and Leah's flirting and mushy talk wasn't fun either. I was relieved when we arrived.
Hoodsport was just as beautiful as La Push, the area was rustic and centered fully around fishing. There were a bunch of docks and marinas, tiny boats floated through the shoreline. It was a very peaceful place. Sun was shining through the clouds, a slight smell of fish lingered near the water, and the sounds of a flowing river could be heard from the meeting hall. Many cars lined the building - that we used as the meeting hall. It was a medium sized cabin, in decent condition. Apparently this cabin was owned and unkempt by the eclipse pack for generations now. It hasn't been used in a very long time. The grass was trimmed neatly, hedges sculpted into perfectly rounded balls, a few planters sat out front, with beautiful wild flowers, all pristine white and deep shades of purple.
To my delight, Edward was waiting for us in the front of the building, but his expression remained controlled. He had to keep up appearances, his pack was watching him closely. He stood straight, towering over most of us with waves of authority and grace. As we approached, a hint of a smile tugged at his lips. He took my hand in his, delicately and kissed my wrist.
"Did you have a nice drive here?" He shifted his gaze to Sam, not letting my hand go.
When Sam didn't answer right away, I turned in his direction. He was several steps behind the rest of the pack. His eyes staring intently in the direction of a girl from Edward's pack. They both were staring at each other. The silence grew awkward.
Do those two know each other? The way they looked at each other… It was like they were lost in their own little world. Leah moved back to Sam's side, jostling him slightly.
"Sam, are you alright?" Her voice was quiet.
Across from us, I noticed Jasper reach out to the tiny woman, stroking the top of her head. His expression was full of concern. "Emily, are you feeling alright?"
Edward cleared his throat, now pulling me to his side. His arm felt so warm and strong. It felt secure. I relaxed at his touch, but couldn't help but feel uncomfortable with the escalating tension in the air.
"Don't tell me the two of you… imprinted," Edward said with a raised brow.
Sam and the small woman, named Emily - flinched, finally peeling their eyes off of each other. Apprehension colored Sam's face as he glanced at Leah. Pain clouded his face, before running a hand through his hair.
"Damn," He cursed under his breath, before straightening up into a more formal stance. "Let's just get inside and get this meeting over with." The La Push pack followed closely behind Sam, all of them keeping their eyes between Leah and Emily. We could sense Leah's fury and hurt break. Even when we weren't phased, there were some emotions that were so strong, it could be felt, even as humans.
I winced at the harsh feeling, the searing pain stung my chest. Was this what heartbreak felt like? It terrified me. To give so much of yourself up to someone else, would always leave you open to feeling so much agony. It made the idea of falling in love daunting.
Edward squeezed me closer to his side as the rest of my pack left me behind. His dark eyes flickered to his own pack. "I'd like to formally introduce my pack, step up and meet your future luna."
A luna was known as the alpha female of a pack. She would lead the pack, side by side with the male alpha. Her duties involved bearing his children, and supporting the pack as a whole. It was a title that I never thought would apply to me. I wasn't even sure how to respond to it. I didn't feel like an alpha female. I was just me. Although, the title meant nothing, until Edward and I actually married. Then, my commands would act the same way his does.
Emmett bowed his head first, his massive hand wrapped around a beautiful blonde girl, who stood by his side. Her beauty outshined every female in the area. She was like a radiant goddess. Even I felt envy chewing at my insides. "I've had the pleasure of meeting you several times already. But I'd like you to meet my imprint, Rosalie."
The girl didn't seem impressed by me at all. In fact, she didn't bother to bow her head. She had no reasons to pay me any respect. I didn't blame her for one moment. I was still considered an outsider to the blood moon pack. Creating real bonds with this people would come with time.
"Emmett is my beta,." Edward said with a brief chuckle. "I've known the man my whole life, he is a very close friend."
In a pack, the beta is seen as the second in command, when the Alpha isn't present, the beta would be in charge. The beta is usually a very skilled fighter and deals with training new pack members. It wasn't a surprise that Emmett would have the beta ranking. His brute size was intimidating, he was definitely strong.
Emmett grinned widely, bowing his head once more, before guiding Rosalie and himself into the meeting hall. I watched as Jasper and Emily approached us. I could see they struggled to even stand next to each other. The pain was almost palpable.
"You've met Jasper as well, he is the Gamma of the pack," Edward said with slight hesitation. "If you have any problems or questions, Jasper is the answer."
Jasper bowed his head respectfully, but all emotion had left his eyes. He seemed empty. It was the job of the Gamma, to act as an advisor to the Alpha. These positions were saved for only the most intelligent pack members. They would strategize battle formations, deal with social issues involving the pack and otherwise, give the Alpha advice on certain aspects of how the pack
"This is his girlfriend Emily," Edward nodded to the small girl at Jasper's side. She was very pretty. Light brown, shoulder-length hair, bone straight. And eyes as black as the night. She kept her head lowered. Unlike Jasper, she was full of emotions. Her tiny shoulders trembled under the weight of her imprint. I pitied them both. I wanted to say something encouraging, but I didn't feel it was my place. I didn't really know them after all. And it's not like I had any right to give them relationship advice. All I knew was my brief but disastrous dating history. As for my imprint with Edward… Well, I understood what Emily was going through.
"It's a pleasure to see you again," Jasper gave me a half-hearted wave, before turning and walking abruptly away. Emily lingered, looking at Edward with tears in her eyes.
"Please tell me there is a way out of this imprint." She muttered softly.
Edward sighed, placing a single hand on her shoulder. "If there was a way, it was never told to me. You can try to reject him, but that will only cause the two of you tremendous pain and suffering."
Emily shakily nodded, all hope draining from her face. "That's what I thought, maybe that's what I deserve, for hurting Jasper like this."
"Imprints are something we can't control. Your imprint is your soulmate, as strange as it feels to fall in love so effortlessly, this is truly a good thing. Jasper will come to agree, once he finds his imprint as well. His pain isn't eternal."
"I don't know if you're right, but I'll choose to believe you." Emily commented, avoiding our gaze again. She walked into the building next, keeping her head low and her shoulders slouched. She moved with little confidence. It was strange to see, in someone so pretty.
I had faith that it would work out for them. Somehow, they all would find happiness. It was just a matter of time. I hope. Not everyone finds their imprints. It's not usually a common occurrence. Perhaps because all the packs have never truly met all together in this way. It's been nearly a century since something like this has happened. The chances that there will be many more wolves finding their imprints was pretty likely.
Several more of the blood moon pack walked up to meet me, most of them showing great signs of admiration and respect. There were a few sour faces in the crowd, but I had been expecting that. I took none of it personally. We came from different packs. I was an outsider. I understood their distrust in me. In time I would win them all over.
The last to meet with me was a young boy, he looked to be only thirteen or fourteen. He kept his arms folded over his chest. Sulking. He looked me up and down, a smirk coming to his face.
"I thought you were going to be super ugly and pathetic. Now, I just feel sorry for you, being stuck with Edward," He snickered. "You're pretty hot. Too hot to be dating my brother."
"Brother?" My eyes widened. I hadn't realized it before, but this little kid really did look like a mini version of Edward. They shared all the same features. Except this boy didn't have the same color hair. His hair was brown with a mix of golden tints. While Edward's hair had bronze tints. That was the only clear difference, other than of course their age and height. They could have passed as twins.
"Shut up Erik, I told you if you weren't going to take this meeting seriously, then you won't be allowed to come." Edward hissed quietly, taking a step forward to scowl down at his brother.
Erik rolled his eyes, bringing his arms across his chest again. "I don't think so, I'm the Delta of this pack. So I have to be involved."
He was the youngest Delta I've ever heard of. The Delta is the one that is trained to replace the Beta, once the current Beta removes themself from the pack, to join the elder council, the Delta takes over as the new Beta. So essentially, Erik was third in command and at such a young age, he must have impressive skills.
"If you are going to continue to annoy me, I can strip you out of that title. Maybe I'll replace you for Tina to take the Delta position. She has been working twice as hard as you lately." Edward mused, a smirk coming to his face.
"Dad wouldn't let you do that, besides, we have a girl Delta already, we have to have one of each gender, for every official ranking." Erik muttered, but I could see the concern written all over his face. He was afraid. It was clear to me that Erik was very competitive. He wanted to climb his way to the top of the pack.
"Just get in there, before you embarrass this pack any further," Edward grumbled.
Erik stuck his tongue out at him, before throwing me a wink. He turned and walked inside with the others. Not bothering to look back at us. He was content. He annoyed his brother, so his mission was accomplished for the day.
"I'm sorry about him, he's a bit of an idiot." Edward sighed, moving his hand to my back, to lead me inside as well.
I shrugged my shoulders. "I think he was a bit cute. He's young isn't he?"
"Just turned fourteen a few months back. He phased for the first time, right around the time of your first phase." Edward admitted quietly.
To be thrusted into this life at such a young age… It seemed wrong. The young should get to enjoy their childhood a little while longer. The packs were steadily growing in number, but the age gap was starting to take a toll on everyone. When children are involved, people tend to not make rational responses.
The inside of the grand hall was just as impressive as the outside. There was abundant room for everyone. Food was lined from one end of a table to the other. Some had already taken their seats. While others lingered around the room, socializing amongst themselves. But no one dared to mix between the packs. The blood moon pack only talked amongst themselves, the same was said for the eclipse pack and mine. It was a bit awkward. But I could feel eyes on me from across the room.I turned slightly, just in time to see Jacob come barging over. A seductive look coming to his face.
I moved behind Edward, feeling my body turn cold. I was instantly preparing myself for a fight. Edward looked down at me with a tender smile, his hand coming out to stroke my face. But as he too sensed Jacob approaching, his body tensed. He glared heatedly in Jacob's direction. But that didn't deter Jacob's advancement.
Oh great, now the fight would begin. I couldn't believe that this was going to happen, before any form of conversation happened yet, between the other packs.
A/N: Thanks to all who took the time to review the last chapter. It means a lot to me. I hope you are all enjoying the story so far!
