I felt my body jerk upright, causing my ear plugs to fly out of my ears. I searched around in the darkness, feeling uneasy. I took a few sniffs at the air, but I couldn't pick up on any unfamiliar scents. I breathed out shakily, before glancing over to the alarm clock on my nightstand. It was only two in the morning. I groaned quietly, letting myself fall back against the bed. Edward was still asleep, snoring quietly. He looked so peaceful, I had the urge to reach out and stroke his face, but I kept my hands to myself. I didn't want to wake him. Instead I closed my eyes and attempted to fall back asleep.
Maybe only a few minutes passed, before I heard fast footsteps, along with gagging and a gush of something hitting into the toilet. Without a second thought I rolled myself out of bed and quickly walked down the hall to the bathroom.
Alice was in an oversized shirt and pair of panties, hunched over the toilet. She groaned in between bouts of vomiting. Wordless I retrieved a cold, wet washcloth, and held it to her forehead. She peeked up at me with appreciation.
The puking lasted for a while, until She no longer had anything left in her stomach. She would gag, but nothing would come out. The feeling of nausea continued for her. Alice looked miserable, as if she hadn't slept at all. She flushed the toilet and lowered the lid to sit down on it. She held the washcloth over her head.
"Did you want something to drink? You really should rehydrate, after losing all those fluids." I said quietly.
Alice shook her head. "Not yet, I feel like even if I drink anything, even water, I'll just go back to puking."
I sighed, nodding slightly. "Alice, you need to take that pregnancy test. Because if you aren't pregnant and all this nausea is from something else, we need to figure it out."
"I know Bella, but I'm scared. Especially now that I'm with Jasper. I mean, would he really still want me, even having another man's child?" She hung her head in shame.
"Of course he will, he is a very kind man. And he imprinted on you, that means he will love your baby without question. The baby is part of you." I said, squeezing her hand.
Alice sniffed. "But I don't know anything about being a mother."
"Well you have me, I don't know much about it either, but we can figure it out together. And perhaps you could get a little advice from your adoptive mother as well. She raised you after all." I said gently.
Alice made a sour face, looking away from me. "At least she taught me one thing, don't ever lie to your kid. Even though I don't like him. I won't deny the baby knowing who their father is."
"I'm sure parenting is harder than it looks. No one is the perfect parent. Look at Rene. She is pretty much absent from my life, all the time. And sure Charlie is around, but he has his own life. I'm here, alone. Raising myself, pretty much. And that's fine. It has made me into a strong person."
Alice winced. "No offense Bella, but I wouldn't want to put my kid through that either. I don't think it's right. But it's not my business. Especially if you are content with it being like this."
I shrugged my shoulders. "I've gotten used to it. It helps when you're here. And now Edward of course. It feels much less lonely in this house."
"I'm glad, although I'm not sure how long I'll stay here. If I really am pregnant, I may have to return home. Like you said, my adoptive parents might be liars, but they at least have some idea of how to raise a child. I'll need their guidance."
"That's alright, so let's get this out of the way. Let's take that pregnancy test." I said moving to the cabinet sitting in the corner of the room. The top shelf had medications, pain relief, sleeping aids and stuff for upset stomachs. The middle shelf had ear cleaners, nail clippers, makeup, waxing strips, anything you could think of for overall body care. The bottom shelf was tampons, pregnancy tests, condoms, just things in that nature. Rene kept this cabinet well stocked. I pulled out a pregnancy test, taking note of its expiration date. Who knows how long Rene had this in here. But it checked out, still in date to be used.
I handed over the little pink stick to Alice, who stared at it with distaste.
"I can't believe I'm doing this?" She muttered, rolling the test from the package.
"Did you want me to wait outside the door?"
Alice looked at me with anxiety. "No, I need you in here."
"Alright, I'll stay then." I took a seat on the marble counter that sat directly across from the toilet. Alice uncapped the test, lifted the toilet seat lip and carefully sat down to position the tip into the flow of her urine.
She made a face. "I'm not the biggest fan of peeing on my hand."
"You aren't supposed to pee on your hand."
"Yeah Bella I know, but it just kind of happens. I couldn't tell if I had the thing in the right spot to catch the flow."
I couldn't help but chuckle at the look of discomfort on Alice's face. It seemed to lighten her tense expression. She let her shoulders slump inwards as she let out a few dainty giggles. But I could see her hands shaking slightly as she pulled the test out and recapped it. I laid out a few pieces of toilet paper onto the counter. "Set it down here. I think it has to stay flat down on something to get an accurate reading."
Alice sighed heavily, plopping the test down on the toilet paper, before quickly flushing the toilet and heading to the sink to wash her hands. She avoided looking at the test. She just continued to look down at her hands. I couldn't imagine what was going through her head right now. I couldn't wrap my head around Alice becoming pregnant. We have been friends for so long, I wonder if this would change things. In truth, I didn't need to even look at the test, to know she is pregnant. Just by the way she has been acting lately, I knew it. If that test came out negative, it would highly surprise me.
"So what, now we just wait?" Alice muttered, she already began to pace back and forth.
"Get your phone and set a timer. We don't have to wait in here and torture ourselves." I suggested taking her by the hand to drag her out of the bathroom.
She nodded weakly as she set up a phone timer for ten minutes. "Good idea, let's make some breakfast, I know it's pretty early, but I'm starving."
"Yeah, maybe the boys will want something to eat before they head back to Forks."
The two of us went down the stairs together and into the dark kitchen. It was still pretty dark outside, neither one of us really got much sleep. But at this point I knew I wouldn't be able to fall back asleep. So I will be up for the day now.
Alice and I decided on making a big breakfast. She would make pancakes and sausage links. I would make scrambled eggs and bacon. We would make it buffet style, so the boys could just fill up their plates with whatever sounded good. I laid out some fresh fruits on the counter, apples, oranges and pears. I also sat out a few different types of cereal. I wasn't sure what they would prefer, so we offered many options. Coffee was brewing, orange juice was here as well.
Time went by quickly, the phone alarm sounded, causing Alice to jump. She turned to look at me, swallowing hard. "Watch my sausages for a minute, I'm going to go read the test." She shakily passed over her fork that she was using to rotate the sausages.
I nodded with a reassuring smile. "Alright, take your time."
Alice hung her head as she walked out of the room. She was moving a bit slow. My heart was racing in my chest as I watched her leave. I was so nervous for her. I wondered what her reaction would be. Would she cry? Would she be angry? Would this make her think about Mike and what he did to her?
No matter what, I had to be supportive. She needed a friend, one that wouldn't judge her either way. I just hoped that whatever the result showed, she would accept it.
I listened intently for any signs of distress as I continued cooking. Everything was almost finished. But it took a long time for Alice to come back down. Her eyes were red and puffy with tears. She ran to my side, hugging me tightly. I held onto her, letting her sob quietly into my shoulder. I rubbed her back soothingly. I didn't say anything at first. I was just there, to let her get all of her emotions out.
Finally, she looked up at me, with sapphire blue eyes. "It's positive,"
Henry's Point of View
Tonight was going to be a slow night. It usually went by relatively quickly, because I spent most of the night out hunting. But tonight was special. I had a guest. A lone wolf wandered into my yard. His scent was disgusting, I could barely stand being in the same room as him. Especially knowing the pain and torment he had caused my daughter. Regardless, I would be sure to enjoy myself.
Raymund was kind enough to assist me with my plans on punishing Mike. To be honest, he was better at things like this. Raymund has been a medical professional for centuries. He knew just where to cut.
Behind my trailer, we set up a table, it was of military grade and came with industrial strength chains. We had our patient locked down, for his safety and ours. He put up quite a fight, luckily Raymund came prepared with some medication that put him to sleep. I stood at the side of the table, where I cleanly sliced off each of Mike's fingers. There was a lot of blood. But it wasn't even remotely tempting. Flames still bit harshly in my throat. But the rancid smell of the blood, I had no trouble staying in control.
Raymund was at the other end of the table, removing Mike's sexual organs. He glanced over at me with a heavy sigh. "You shouldn't bother with just the fingers. We should remove both arms. He won't be able to hold someone down, or hurt someone. If he doesn't have arms."
I frowned, watching as his fingers began to heal. "His regenerative abilities make this hard. I guess you're right. It's best to just remove the whole thing."
"Do you need my help, have you done an amputation of something that big before?" Raymund asked with a raised brow.
"This wouldn't be the first time, no, I've had to do a lot of amputations in my time in the military. I got it under control." I nodded.
We had a bunch of scalpels and blades to do the job. Not to mention the dissection and cutting scissors, retractors and handheld clamps. We practically had everything you would need for an operating room. This mutt was lucky that we had morals. We didn't just cut him to pieces, we were doing this safely. We didn't wish to kill him, or any human. But we weren't about to let him hurt anyone ever again. If Sam would have given the proper punishment, we wouldn't have had to get involved.
It didn't take me long as I sliced through skin, muscle, nerves, bones. It all split away easily. This fool would be in a lot of pain when he woke up. Raymund was monitoring his vitals as we continued our dissection. Raymund had the most challenging part, trying to cleanly and safely remove his testes and penis.
"This is a very respectable punishment Henry, you have used more restraint than I would, if I was in your position." Raymund said with a small smile. "I'm proud of you brother,"
"Thanks, but I just want to be the kind of man that someday Alice may want in her life. I'm not perfect by any means. But I don't want to become a monster. Even doing this feels wrong. But he raped my daughter. If I can't kill him, I'll at least leave him in a state worse than death."
"Claire wasn't exactly thrilled about all of this, but she respects your wishes. She empathizes with Alice. When she was human… She experienced something similar. Claire took the lives of her rapists when she turned." Raymund said, a stormy rage clouded his face. "I wish I would have been there…"
I shook my head slowly, wiping my blood stained hands on a towel I kept nearby. "I wouldn't want Alice to seek revenge. I'd rather do it for her. She won't have to carry the burden of guilt. For now, I will be the bad guy. I'll be the person to carry the weight of the darkness."
"I don't know how Alice would react to this. I'm not sure we should be open and honest about our involvement here. This very well breaks the treaty that we agreed to with Sam. We do need to keep this secret." Raymund said, turning to a bowl of water, to clean the blood off his hands as well.
"So, we should get Liddie, her abilities will come in handy here." I said, glancing out in the distance. Liddie didn't live too far from here. She was living in a double-wide trailer just a mile down the road from mine.
I didn't like when Liddie was around. Not because she was a bad person, she was very sweet. Naive and gullible, but she didn't have a bad bone in her body. She was almost as nice as Claire. Almost. But when Raymund had her take Lucy's memories away, I haven't been able to look her in the eye. She practically stole my love's identity. But I knew it was the only way to help Lucy through all her suffering.
Lucy was a very fragile woman, I knew the mental anguish she would feel, by being separated from me. That's how imprinting worked. There was a lonely, silent anguish that you felt, all hours of the day and night. These past few years have been torture for me. But at least for Lucy, she didn't remember who I was, or the fact that we had a daughter. Of course, once I was able to meet back up with her, Liddie could restore her memories. I couldn't wait.
"So, shall we come up with a good story, as to how this happened to him? Once he returns to La Push, Sam will demand answers." Raymund said, lightly covering Mike's body with a thin sheet. We were finished slicing him up. His arms were removed, up to his shoulders. Raymund stitched the skin together and put a pressure dressing to both of his stumps.
I wasn't brave enough to look towards Mike's genitalia. Raymund closed the wound completely with stitches, but created a small hole in Mike's abdomen, and placed a catheter that would be attached to his bladder. This would allow Mike to urinate while his body healed. Then it would be his choice. Keep the foley, or remove it, to urinate from the site his manhood had been.
"I don't have the faintest idea, I'm not the biggest fan of lying. Maybe we should just be honest about it." I shrugged my shoulders tightly.
There suddenly was a foul odor, familiar but redundant. Jacob slowly came walking up to my trailer, a content smile on his face. I could see the slightest wrinkle of his nose as he stood in front of Raymund and I. "Don't worry about the story, I have a great idea. Sam will definitely believe it."
Raymund sighed, folding his arms across his chest. "What did you have in mind?"
I wasn't sure how Raymund felt about Jacob yet. He seems to like him a little bit, but I'm not sure if he trusts him fully yet. I, on the other hand, trust him fully. He was the one that was reuniting my family. I owed him big time. If it wasn't for his kindness and tolerance of my kind, I would never see my beautiful wife and daughter. I'd do anything to repay what Jacob has done for me.
"Well you guys mentioned there are some rogue vampires in the area, one of them got their hands on poor Mike here. Our brilliant doctor Raymund had to operate, but unfortunately the damage was so extensive that amputation was the only way of saving his life." Jacob said with a grin.
"That might work, although that depends on how suspicious Sam is of us." Raymund muttered, turning away from Jacob to look at Mike. "If he was human, he would have surely died from blood loss if we attempted this. But because of his fast healing abilities, the bleeding took care of itself."
"In that case, why did you leave his legs?" Jacob wondered, his hands running along one of the blades.
"We just wanted to stop him from hurting any more innocent women, now he can't." Raymund said with a raised brow.
"Is that really justice? What about Alice? Did you know, she is pregnant now, with this monster's baby." Jacob said with a sour face. "She is so distraught about it, bordering suicidal."
Pain erupted in my chest, my shoulders tensed against the pain. But I struggled to hold my emotions in check. Growls rolled down my chest. Raymund put his hand up to me, a tense look in his eyes. "Henry, calm down. Let's hear the full story from your daughter first."
I was so furious that I couldn't even respond.
"What's the point? Do you think I'm lying to the two of you?" Jacob asked with a frown.
"Frankly, I don't know you that well Jacob, I'd prefer to hear it from Alice. Because if that's true, this punishment will have to be changed, to fit the crime."
"I can arrange a meeting for you to meet with Alice in the morning. If you would like?" Jacob offered with a sickly sweet smile.
Raymund looked to me, waiting for my response. I flickered my eyes from Mike to Raymund and Jacob. "Yeah, but I'm not sure if I can hold myself back any more. I need to go hunt."
"Go ahead, I'll finish up here," Raymend said, patting my shoulder as I passed him. Anger fueled my legs, pushing me to run as fast as I could. I wanted to rip, tear and kill everything on sight. I couldn't help it. I was so close to falling off the edge. Each animal that I ran into was dead within seconds. The type of animal didn't matter, it was all a blur to me. So when I heard a female scream, and the taste of the most exquisite blood entered my mouth, I felt myself freeze completely.
I looked down in my arms, where I was holding a naked woman. Mud was coating her sun-kissed skin. She looked like she was about to pass out. I quickly pulled my mouth off her with some force. The pain of letting her go was overwhelming. I wanted her blood so badly. But I had to stop, or she would die. I laid her down, picking up some of her shredded clothing to cover her. I recognized her from the meeting. This was Sam's girlfriend. Well, I suppose they weren't together anymore. Since Sam imprinted on Emily. This was the other girl, Leah.
I messed up badly this time.
Quickly I picked her back up and ran her back towards my trailer. I prayed that Raymund would be able to save her. She was groaning quietly, her lips almost blue in color, from the blood loss. Faster. Run faster.
A/N: Let me know what you think of this chapter. I really enjoyed writing this one. It feels like a lot is going on. Anyway, thanks for reading! Leave a review to show some support! Will update as soon as I can.
