Chapter Ten
"Love and conflict, whether internal or external, define the energy of youth."
Flashback
"You're so pathetic." A female voice sang darkly.
Yuuki looked up from her hiding spot. She had gotten lost in the Moon Dorm as she searched for Zero and wandered into a random room.
"Ruka-chan?" She whispered through her sniffles as she eyed the tall toffee-haired girl above her. Ruka eyed her with disgust.
"I don't understand what he even sees in you. You're so weak! He deserves someone strong and loyal by his side— someone like me. You will taint him with your persistent desires for that disgusting, pathetic excuse of a vampire. That one you protect."
"What are you talking about? Zero?"
"Of course, I'm talking about Kiryu Zero, you stupid girl. No one else would be as foolish as you two, to dare grace a pureblood's presence with your vile existence! Don't you have any manners? Any at all?" She spat. Her voice was full of aggravation and frustration. She threaded her hands through her hair as if she were trying to tear the strands right out her scalp as she continued,
"I gave him everything. My love, my blood….my loyalty. I would have even given him my purity if he would have it. But he just throws it all away because of you. I hate you. And I'd love nothing more than to kill you. But I wouldn't dare jeopardize my lord Kaname's happiness like how you do. Pull yourself together! Don't you get it? He chose you— and trust me, he could have done better. Act like a goddamn queen for once!" She hissed as she flung her hair over her shoulder and took a few deep breathes to calm down.
"And to make things worst he went and claimed you. I don't even need to see the puncture wounds to know what happened. His scent is all over you."
"That's enough, Ruka. You have no right to question who Kaname gives his affections to." Ichijo demanded. He stepped out of the shadows and helped Yuuki stand. She clucked her tongue and brushed imaginary lint off her flawless lace dress.
"Whatever," She spat out before she disappeared down the hall, the outline of her pretty figure swallowed up by the darkness.
"Did she hurt you? I don't smell any blood" Ichijo inquired as he frantically searched her body for any wounds. He didn't know what he would tell Kaname if he brought her back to him harmed. Yuuki shock her head.
"She didn't hurt me. Not physically, at least." She mumbled back. He gave her a sad smile.
"Ruka isn't very good at expressing her feelings. Don't mind her. She means well. I think that's just how females are when they are in love." He was lost in his thoughts until Yuuki interrupted him,
"Hey, have you seen Zero? I've been wandering these halls and I can't find him anywhere," Ichijo hesitated. He wasn't aware that Kaname hadn't discussed with her about Kiryu's isolation. Or about the impending trial.
"You shouldn't wander around here alone Yuuki. It's dangerous. I should get you back to Kaname-sama. I'm sure he's worried sick." He responded nervously as he attempted to change the subject. Yuuki huffed up at him, but nonetheless accepted the hand that he offered to her. He gave her a brilliant smile.
"Everything is going to be okay Yuuki. Give him some time." She watched him suspiciously. Truly, if anyone could come close to understanding Kaname's ways, it would be Takuma.
"I'm sure whatever he's done that has made you this angry was done for your own protection Yuuki. He cares about you more than I've ever seen him care for anyone. Even more than he cares about himself." She gave him an annoyed look and he laughed. He waved his hands up comically in front of his chest as a sign of surrender.
"I'm not making excuses for him, I swear. Kaname used to live with me and my family when we were younger, so I've gotten to know him pretty well. I don't know everything there is to know about you two, but I can say with confidence that everything he does, he does for you. Everything. "He stressed right before they stopped in front of two familiar grand doors.
"Just talk to him…" He reassured gently as he pushed her closer to the door. He waved goodbye with a twinkle in his eyes and she smiled for the first time that night. She knocked on the door, and when she didn't get a response she pushed it open.
"Kaname-sempai?" She walked slowly through the dark, mindful of her steps so that she wouldn't embarrass herself. Her eyes skimmed over the bed she woke up in not too long ago, then over to the loveseat that had been pushed closer to the large bay windows.
"Kaname-sempai?" She tried again. Her foot tripped and she fell clumsily into something hard yet very, very warm.
"Kaname-sempai! What are you doing on the floor?" She shrieked as she tried to jump out of his grasp, but his hold on her was tight. She searched his face and he looked at her with so much pain and sorrow that she actually stopped struggling.
"I'm glad you came back to me Yuuki. I hope you didn't run into anything nasty while you were out on your adventure." He replied softly. He spoke as if he were hinting toward something, but she wasn't quite sure as to what it was. Ruka maybe? Her attitude sure is nasty! She rolled her eyes.
"Kaname I'm sorry for saying I hate you. I don't really mean that…I just want you to tell me about—"
"— I will tell you everything, my dear Yuuki. But for you to understand it, I have to do something I am extremely reluctant to do." He sounded remorseful and she shifted uncomfortably in his arms.
"I want you to. Whatever it is, whatever you are afraid of, I want to know. We can do this together." She replied with strength as she watched his once brown eyes transform back into that blazing red hue. He nodded his head slowly but she could feel him tensing below her. She leaned forward and pressed her lips against his. She ran her tongue against his bottom lip, asking for entrance and he allowed it. He moaned when she brushed her tongue against his as he rearranged her thighs so that they were straddling his hips. He returned her kiss passionately and when they broke apart to catch their breathes, his removed his arm from around her and bite down.
''What are you doing?" She questioned frantically as she eyed the bite mark and the blood that broke the surface. He said nothing as he cupped her face in his hands and forced her attention back to him. By the look in his face she knew after whatever it was that he was about to do— there would be no going back.
"I'm ready." She reassured him and gave him a small smile. His red eyes twinkled in the moonlight, and she feared his hesitation was from a change of heart. Then suddenly he pulled her back in for another kiss. His tongue swirled around hers relentlessly and she began to taste something metallic linger in her mouth. Blood…this is Kaname's blood. The taste transformed from that familiar metallic flavor to something extremely unique: to something sweet, and rich, and intoxicating. She moaned as his desperate mouth continued to explore her own. He pulled away abruptly and she watched as a single tear ran down his face,
"Forgive me Yuuki" He whispered as her body erupted in pain. Her gums ached terribly. Her surroundings felt like they were spinning and her body felt like it was on fire.
"Kaname-sempai" she cried out weakly as she reached her hand out to grasp him. He captured it and kissed her palm. Another tear fell from his eyes and she wondered why he was crying.
"I'm so sorry Yuuki. I wish I could take your pain away." He shook his head as he fondled her face. His touch was the only comfort she endured as the pain seared through her body. She let out a chocked cry as she felt what she thought was her teeth shifting. She was on fire. She had to be on fire. I'm going to die!
Her whole body started to shake violently in his arms and he rocked her gently, whispering incoherent loving words in her ear. She held on to him tightly. The pain felt endless but eventually it died down to nothing but a very uncomfortable headache. She opened her eyes, and when she looked at him, suddenly her mind was flooded with a huge stream of images.
"Yuuki?" He mumbled miserably as he planted desperate kisses all over her face.
"Yuuki, talk to me. Come back to me." She intertwined her fingers in his and pressed her damp forehead against his.
"Onii-chan…I remember...everything" He frowned as she burst into tears.
"I don't blame you if you hate me now Yuuki." He ran a thumb over her lips and kissed her sweetly on her temple.
"I love you Kaname. I love you so much. I'm so sorry I've caused you so much pain…I didn't know. I didn't remember. But now I do." She chocked through her sobs as she flung herself back into his arms. They fell back to the ground and he gathered her up into his arms. She curled into him as she cried herself to sleep. When he was sure that she was fast asleep, he pushed a finger past her closed swollen lips and inspected the immature fangs that nestled there. Yuuki, you are finally mine. But why do I feel so guilty?
He sighed as he picked her up and tucked her into his bed. He was about to walk away when he felt her dainty fingers dig into his dress shirt. She looked up at him tearfully as she whimpered,
"Don't leave me. Don't ever leave me again." He climbed into the bed with her and whispered sweet nothings in her ear until she feel gracefully back to sleep.
There was a knock on his door. The only person who would dare interrupt his bonding time with his dear Yuuki could be no one other than Seiren.
"Come in" He called out as he sat up, careful not to wake her.
"Please excuse me, my lord. I am here to inform you that everyone had been gathered and that the trial will start in the next three hours." She bowed respectfully and took her leave.
Two Hours Later
Yuuki rolled over only to find that the sheets were cold against her skin. Immediately she pushed the sleep out of her eyes and sat up. She glanced at the vacant spot in the bed and jumped out of bed.
"Kaname-sempai?" She cried out as her eyes scanned the room.
"Don't fret Yuuki. I'm right here." He smiled lovingly at her as he emerged from the shadows and guided her back to the bed.
"How do you feel?" he inquired as he looked her up and down. She had her hands wrapped against her neck and her eyebrows were bunched together from confusion. He eyed her knowingly as he pushed his long hair off his shoulders and exposed his neck to her.
"Drink"
She didn't waste any time as she bared her fangs and sank them deep into his neck. He practically growled at the pleasure it gave him. He felt his blood rush to his groin and he tried to force himself to relax under her touch. He listened to the soothing sound of her gulps, counting them quietly in his head.
"Yes Yuuki, just like that" He hummed weakly as she continued to drain him of his life-force. Each gulp left him feeling more and more aroused and when he was sure he would not be able to resist pushing her onto the floor and claiming her with all the love he had in the world, he gently pried her body away from his.
"Did I drink too much?" She frowned as she eyed the bloody mess she'd made.
"No, Yuuki. I...just...um the sensations were too much. It's okay. I will teach you how to use our fangs again." He reassured as she licked the blood on his skin away. She thought her eyes were fooling her when he blushed. Kaname, her cool and collected pureblood, blushed. He felt his erection twitch when her fangs scraped against his wound. After a few moments of blissful silence he continued,
"Yuuki, I know this is all so sudden, especially since you just underwent your transformation. It wasn't my plan to do that now…or really ever. But that doesn't matter anymore. We have to take care of some things…concerning Kiryu."
She froze at the sound of his name. Zero! How could I have forgotten him? What will he think of what I've become now? Will he hate me?
"What is going to happened to Zero?" She looked at him with horror.
"He will be put on trial, and the judge will decide his fate."
"Will they kill him? It wasn't his fault. I let him do it!" She cried out.
"It's ok Yuuki. No one will hurt him. I promise. But this is necessary. What he did was unlawful and sinful. He needs to at least acknowledge his crimes."
There was another knock on the door and Rima entered under Kaname's command.
"Rima, Shiki, will you two help Yuuki get dressed while I get prepared for trial?"
"Yes, lord Kaname" They replied in unison as they took Yuuki out of his arms and guided her towards the bathroom.
"I don't think I'm ready for this." She whimpered as she help her hand out to Kaname one last time. He kneeled before her and kissed it softly.
"My beautiful, brave, strong, stubborn Yuuki— You will do just fine. I will be by your side every step along the way" He comforted her before he turned to leave.
"I will see you all at the courthouse. Let's get this over with. There are so many things we need to discuss." He responded as he gave both Rima and Shiki warning glares. They simply nodded their head in agreement before they shut the bathroom door. Yuuki walked up the bathroom mirror and gasped at the girl who looked back at her.
No longer were her eyes that chestnut brown she remembered, but was replaced with that mysterious red glow. She licked her pink lips and ran her tongue over her fangs. Everything was so surreal. She couldn't believe that this was who she was really meant to be: a vampire queen. Her skin seemed to have paled down a few hues but other than that, any and every scratch that she every acquired as a part of the disciplinary committee was completely gone. Her body hummed with an abundance of energy that she had never felt before…or at least not in a very long time. She thought back to when she drank Kaname's blood. The taste lingered in her mouth, his scent lingered on her skin, his moans rang loudly in her ears. She squeezed her eyes shut tightly. She had always thought her life was borderline chaotic. But at least in the middle of all the chaos, there as him. She wasn't sure if she would have been able to remember who she was if the world had not told her who she was meant to be. And so, she decided to start living the life that she'd imagined. Because trouble never looked so damn fine.
On that day, a queen was born.
