Chapter 4: The King and Anne

It's been a week since the incident. Anne Boonchuy, a 13 year old girl with bushy hair, wearing her school outfit like her friends, but her collar and her skirt were purple and her sneakers are yellow. She's been sitting on her hospital bed for a week. Clearly it was after when Anne has been landed in a different place, but this is not Earth that she's familiar with.

Anne has landed into a capital city called Newtopia, home to all of newts including axolotl and salamanders. The capital city looks resemblance similar to a castle like palace, with turrets and towers being seen in the distance including flags placed at the top of the towers which appear to be shaped like red mushrooms. Likely made out of possibly gold, the castle is the most massive structure on the show.

Since she has first teleport in Newtopia, she was in a mixture of shocked, surprised, and confused. Anne was wandering around the city to look for her friends since she noticed that her friends were separated. Her phone has no service due to fact that this place was like medieval world and she has no place to go. Anne tried to ask some villagers for help, but some were scared, thinking that she's just some sort of odd creature.

By then, when her path was halted by the guards wearing robes, pointing spears at her. Anne took a small step back in defense and telling them that it was all big misunderstood, but without a warning, she nearly loose her balance and then falling down the stairs as the Thai girl stumbling down the stairs until she landed at the bottom and fainted.

Luckily fer her, she was taken to a nursery room in the palace where she was properly taken care of by some newts that are nurses and some doctors are studying her appearance as they look fascinated on her like no one has seen this creature like this and to them it's like a rare, but she claims that she's from another world. Unfortunately, her right was covered with cast and she had a little bruise from the stair she's fallen.

Anne was reading her only magazine when she's bored. Her backpack was at the chair and her shoes were on the floor next to it. Then suddenly, Lady Olivia, a Newtopian Royal Advisor and elegant lady came in to see how Anne has been doing. Since Anne's first day of being stranded after the fall, Lady Olivia is the one who found her and took her in the nursery room. Upon her shock and awe, she has never seen such creature like this and then later, Anne explains everything how she ended up here.

Now they became friends and proved that Anne was not a dangerous creature. Olivia recently come back to check on Anne, then she formed her small smile that Anne's right foot is getting much better. Anne set her magazine down and smiling at her when she came back to check to on her.

"Hey, Olivia." Anne greeted.

"Hello, Master Anne. How's your foot?" said Olivia.

Anne looks down at her right foot that was casted, but it started to heal anytime soon.

"A little sore, but I think my foot is feeling much better now." replied Anne.

"That's good to hear. Now, let's get you on feet." said Olivia.

Anne nodded and Olivia gently help her to stand up, then Anne put her left shoe on, but she put her right shoe inside of her backpack and put it on her back. Olivia hands crutches to Anne so that she can walk carefully while right foot is healing.

"Thanks for helping me, Olivia." Anne thanked her kindly.

"You are most certainly welcome. As caretaker of this land and all its creatures, it is my responsibility to look after you until you're fully healed and I will do anything to help you find your friends." said Olivia.

Anne felt touched when she formed her smile. Olivia was very kind to her since they have met.

"Now then, let's move on. Shall we?"

"Sooooo, where are we going?" Anne asked.

"We are going to visit to the king." Olivia answered.

Later on, it took some time for Anne to walk with her crutches while Olivia helps out when walking up stairs by steps. Olivia has explain to Anne about the king who rules Amphibia for thousands of years and live long enough to rule over his kingdom. It is said that he was very friendly and very wise king who love his people. Anne was surprised that he's been living for a really long time.

Then finally, once they reach to the hallway where it leads to the big door where two royal newt guards are standing by the door, then the guards gave a bow to the advisor respectively and then they open the big door by pushing. As the two enters when walk towards, Anne was amazed that the throne room was really huge and the windows were made of glass stain that was all over room. The pillars with olms all over and it was filled with reef like from an underwater kingdom.

While Anne was busy looking around, Olivia was looking straight toward to the throne where was once sitting as they both approach. They stop walking as they stood a few inch feet apart before she made an introduce.

"May I present to you... Andrias Leviathan, Lord of Amphibia. Peacekeeper of a thousand years and the first of his name."

Then Anne looks up, but her eyes went wide when stunned.

"Whoa! Now that's a king-sized!"

Anne looks up at the newt king, Andrias Leviathan, a really huge newt sitting on a huge throne that was a theme to the coral reef while his guards standing by. His appearance was shadowed in front of the light that relfects through the stain window. He looks very intimidating at first, but then he leans forward with his friendly face into the light.

"Why, hello there!" Andrias boomed gleefully.

Anne flinched that his voice was a bit loud, but stunned that he formed his friendly face. Andrias stands up from the throne.

"Welcome, Anne Boonchuy! It is so good to see you back in one piece! A simple misunderstood, I do humbly apologize for the incident." said King Andrias.

"Oh! That's okay, and yes, that's me." replied Anne.

"(chuckles) Such a strong little creature, aren't you? Now, down to business. Lady Olivia told me everything about your presence, so what are you exactly? If I may ask?" King Andrias asked kindly.

Anne has been thinking a lot about how she got here. She was a bit nervous at first, but she knew that Andrias was asking kindly, then she started to speak.

"Okay. Where do I start? Firstly, I'm a human being. And secondly, I'm from... another world! Or you can Earth for short." Anne explained.

"Earth? Where have I heard this one before?" said King Andrias.

"Wait, you do?" Anne blinked.

"Why yes, I've been studying this planet for thousands of years. Please, continue."

"Oh, uh thanks. Where was I? A week ago, it was my birthday that my parents were planning to throw me a party. My friend, Sasha and I are swinging by my best friend, Marcy who's been living in her house with her adopted family, to show us about what she has discovered from the basement when she showed me and Sasha about the music box."

King Andrias raised his eyebrows that she just mentioned.

"Music box?"

"That's right. She told me that her dad must've bought the box, eight years ago before she was adopted. Then he told her to told me not mess with it, but Sasha insist that we should take it for... studying sorta thing, but I'm gonna cut to the chase. By evening while we're having my birthday party at my house, the three of us are outside in the backyard and when I open it, it zapped me and my friends here, but I was separated from them." Anne finished her sentence.

The king rub his chin with his right finger while puzzling.

"Hmm... Then I suppose that you have the box with you?" King Andrias asked.

"Oh, right. It was in my backpack when I was stranded. I'll show you."

Anne took off her backpack and set it down gently, then unzips her bag, and took out something that was covered in white cloth rag. The king raise his eyebrows slowly as he started to suspect something. Once Anne unwrap the white rag, it is revealed that it was the music box. It is ornamented with gold and three gems on top. It depicts a frog in the tropical woods, praising the gems behind an engraved sun design. It also has a small key on its right side as a possible accessory. The king, however went surprisingly stunned. He was staring at the box that Anne's been carrying.

"It can't be."Andrias gasp softly.

"Pretty fancy, huh? I get that it was super old and fragile, but looks pretty shiny." said Anne obviously.

"Anne, do you know what this is?" King Andrias smiles.

"Uh, the music box?"

"That is no ordinary box, it's a Calamity Box."

"Wait, Calamity Box? Is that what Marcy's been talking about?" Anne asked when she examines it.

Andrias walks down the steps from the throne and knelt down to her to take a closer look to reach his right palm to the Thai girl gently.

"May I?"

Anne hasn't thought about it at first, but she took her glance at Lady Olivia who was smiling and then she nodded to Anne that it's okay. Anne looks at the box for a second and she started to think that she could trust him, but if the king is peacekeeper to this land, then she will accept the offer and gave the music box to him in his palm. Andrias raise his arm to look closer at the music box to examine. He looks very happy at first, but then he drop his smile and looks closer to what's missing.

"Hmm... how peculiar. Didn't you know the gems were colored?"

Anne dropped her smile and went blanked. How could she have not know that?

"Hey, you're right. I never actually noticed that." said Anne when she realized.

"Well, that's because when you and your friends must've have drain those powers from the gem inside of your body when you've been transported here."

"Wait, what?"

"The music box you found is a magical artifact that is thousands of years old. You see, my ancestors used it to visit entirely different worlds. They were peaceful explorers, scientists. These three stones are the key to getting it working again. They need to be recharged." King Andrias explained about the music box.

"Recharged? How?" Anne asked.

"I'm not so sure, but I'm gonna get to the bottom of this. Until then, I will hold on to it for safe keeping and then I'll search through some books to discover about how to recharge the music box." replied King Andrias.

"So, does this mean I can't go back home?" Anne asked when concerned.

"I'm afraid so, my dear. Looks like you'll be stuck here in about a month or two." replied King Andrias.

"Two months?! Are you telling me that I'm gonna be stuck here for two months?! How am I supposed to sleep here?!" Anne exclaimed.

"Don't you worry, Anne. We have some guest rooms where you can sleep. Lady Olivia will give you a tour around the castle until dinner. Now that the box is back, you are more welcome to stay and you can have anything you want!"

"Really?! So, you'll help me find my friends?!" Anne raised her smile thinking that her hope is restored.

"I don't think that's impossible, but I'll send my scouts to go look for your friends as soon as I can. So for now, you'll be safe here." replied King Andrias.

"Wait, so I can't go out looking for my friends?" Anne dropped her smile.

"I'm afraid so, but outside from the city, it's a dangerous world out here. There are full of dangerous creatures that wanted to eat for those that are alive. Trust me. You don't want to get yourself eaten while looking for your friends."

Then she felt her heartache when her hope has given up a bit. What if the king is right? What's going to happen to her friends? Could they be alive or get eaten? How is she going to explain for all this? Andrias noticed Anne's look as he felt sympathy at her. He knows how he feels.

"Don't worry, my dear. I'm sure your friends will be safe out there. Being a king here is a hard task and it is my fully responsibility to protect our city and its people from any threats like bandits or dangerous creatures. Do you understand?"

Anne nodded sadly.

"Very good. Now don't feel bad, you'll be happy here since we got plenty of everything. We have mall, restaurants, aquarium, the arcade-"

"Wait, did you say 'the arcade'? As in videogames?!" Anne perks up.

"I don't know what this 'videogame' is, but yes!"

"Shut up!"

"(chuckles) I like you, kid! But for now, let's waited out a little longer until your foot is healed and if you need anything at all. You just come talk to me." said King Andrias.

"Thank you, your majesty." Anne bowed before the king.

"Please, call me Andrias."

"Oh, yes. Andrias, thank you."

"Of course, my dear. You two are dismissed."

Lady Olivia walks over to Anne that puts her backpack on, so that she can help her walking with crutches.

"Right this way, Master Anne. I wanted to show you something that's important." said Olivia.

"Oh, okay." replied Anne.

Then they walk over to the balcony, leaving the king standing up while holding the box. Once they reach to balcony, Anne went stunned and amazed that the whole view where the city was surround by each walls, the water in between the city walls and the shores on land. Then she can see some trees and mountains from afar as the seagulls like creatures, but with insect eyes as they flew pass.

"Whoa! No way! It's like I'm in a hotel where the beach is!" Anne amazed.

"Beautiful, isn't it? Once, I said on this very same balcony with my mother and had-"

"Wait, are those seagulls like bugs?" Anne cuts off when she noticed at the seagull like creatures.

"Almost the same reaction. I'm a descendant of a long line of newts who made a sacred vow to care of this land. The trees, the plants, the animals... All are under our care." said Olivia when she explains.

"Wow. It looks so beautiful." said Anne softly.

Then she dropped her smile for a bit. Olivia noticed that Anne went sad.

"Is everything alright, Anne?" Olivia asked softly.

"Yeah, you said something about your mother, but I miss my family, my life, and my best friends." replied Anne.

Olivia reach her hands to wrap hers around Anne's hands. The Thai girl felt touch when her hand has felt something soft that's made out of glove and looked at Olivia with her small smile.

"Anne, I will do anything to help you get your friends back, and return home to reunite with your family. No matter what." said Olivia very softly.

Anne formed her small smile back at the king's advisor. She reminded her of her own mother from home.

"Thanks, Olivia." said Anne.

"Of course, Anne. Once your foot is healed, I will show you around the city and get know everyone, but do please be careful not to go wandering off. Otherwise you might get easily lost."

"Fair enough."

They turn their heads at the view as the wind blew very softly as their own hair blew. Anne's been thinking of how she'll be able to find a way to get her friends back and then return to Earth to be with her family, but all she has to do is to wait patiently until the time is right. She will pray and hopefully that her friends will be okay if they're safe from any dangerous creatures.

While the king is staring at Anne and Olivia that were watching from the balcony, but nobody noticed when there's something that looked like an orange eye on the king's crown. It moved its eye around the crown until it disappear, but then when Andrias replied that he formed his eyebrows when he speaks calmly with his lowered voice.

"After thousand years of waiting, the music box has returned at last. It is time to resume our conquest."

Uh oh! You know what this means? The king turns out that he made an allegiance to his master! The good news is that Anne's life will be change and be the best girl that her parents wanted her to be, but the bad news is... things are gonna get tricky when she's having trouble studying like going to school.
