MEMORIAL DAY, 1982
"It begins 20 years ago, halfway around the world on a beach in Brooklyn."
People were enjoying themselves some were on a Ferris Wheel, others grilling burgers or hot dogs, and many relaxing on the beach. Among them, was a young boy with brown hair, and blue eyes, blue T-shirt, red swim-trunks passes through the Ferris Wheel holding a football.
"That's me, Charlie Carbone."
CHARLIE
CARBONE
Close by, Charlie's mother walks by a man.
"3 things happened on this day that would change my life."
The man had short brownish hair, blue, and seemed interested in her.
"First, was that my mom met Sal. She hadn't dated much since Dad died, but I could tell right away she was interested."
Sal and Charlie's mother soon talked to each other she laughed, and Sal kissed her hand. And they seem to start liking each other.
"Why shouldn't she be? Sal Maggio was a respected member of the community."
SALVATORE
MAGGIO
"Well, feared and respected. Well, feared."
And with Sal with a young teenage boy brownish hair, and blue eyes.
"And that's Frankie Lombardo."
FRANKIE
LOMBARDO
"Fresh out of Juvenile Hall, where they named a wing after him. Sal was grooming Frankie to take over the family business a family that I was about to become a part of."
Charlie went up to his mother as she introduce him to Sal.
Later, Charlie wanders around the beach as an African American boy, short black hair, brown eyes, blue swim-trunks, red towel tied around his neck covering his back. And had headphones and a metal detector as he seems to be looking for something.
Also there were 2 boys, brothers, the older brother had dirty blonde hair, blue eyes, blue T-shirt with a shark on it, short and sandals. His younger brother had brown spikey hair, brown eyes, green T-shirt with a chameleon, shorts and sandals. And the brother in blue had a made-shift card holder full of Weird N'Wild Creatures trading cards.
The African American boy nears Charlie with his metal detector.
"The second thing that happened was that I met Louis Booker."
LOUIS
BOOKER
"Also, Kratt brothers, Chris and Martin from Jersey."
CHRIS&MARTIN
KRATT
Louis rise his metal detector as it buzzed near Charlie's shorts as he turns to him.
Louis pulls his headphones down. "Don't tell me." He said. "You got 75 cents in your back pocket."
"You're wrong." Charlie said and reached into his pocket bringing out a compass. "It's a Captain Amazing compass."
"No, way!" Martin said amazed.
"Whoa, how much you want for it?" Louis asked grabbing the compass.
"It's not for sale." Charlie said taking the compass back. "No way. Sorry. Want to play some ball?"
"No. You play ball." Louis said placing his headphones back on. "I got to check every square inch of this beach if I'm gonna make my car payment."
"Car payment?" Chris stared. "You're only 10."
"You've got a car?" Charlie inquired.
"No, but I will." Louis said.
"In 7 years maybe." Martin said under his breath.
"Now, step aside." Louis said. "My uncle only rented me this metal detector for the day."
Later, towards late afternoon, Frankie caught the football.
"And the third..."
"Hey, kid." Frankie said to Charlie.
Charlie turns to him.
"...most important thing that happened that day..."
"Go long." Frankie said.
He then got ready to throw the ball as Charlie started running.
"...was that I went out for a 20-yard pass."
Frankie then threw the football as it flew through the air and Charlie nears the shoreline ready to catch it.
"Unfortunately, there was only 15 yards worth of beach and a really strong undertow."
The ball landed in the water.
"And I couldn't swim."
Frankie watched as Charlie headed into the water to get the ball.
Elsewhere on the beach, Louis was still beachcombing when he saw Charlie's Captain Amazing compass on the sand. Close by, Chris and Martin were going over their cards when they saw him.
"Didn't that belonged to the guy we just met?" Chris wondered.
In the water, Charlie coughed as he struggled to still afloat trying to get the football.
Louis then pulls his headphones down.
"Hey, kid!" He called out. "You lost your-"
He then look around as well as Chris and Martin, and then they saw Charlie in the water struggling.
"I don't think he can swim." Martin said.
"Somebody help!" Louis yelled. "I think there's a kid drowning out- I'll save you!"
He then removes his headphones as Charlie went under the surface, and Louis ran towards the water as a Superman theme fills the air as he removes the towel off him and rushed to the water.
Charlie's mother soon saw what was happening as she and Sal and other people hurried.
And Louis came out of the water holding Charlie unconscious.
Charlie's mother rushed over to Louis and a few other adults as they quickly brought Charlie on the beach
"That one moment changed my life because in the years that followed Louis Booker was a lot better at getting me into trouble than getting me out."
They placed Charlie down as the lifeguard started CPR.
"A dreamer in search of treasure, who only found bottle caps."
Soon Charlie coughed up some water as everyone soon cheered minus Frankie in the crowd, but likely is relieved he was okay.
"You see this guy?" The lifeguard said gesturing to Louis.
Charlie turns to him.
"And I never forgot it."
"He just saved your life." The lifeguard said.
Louis lightly smiled.
"He wouldn't let me."
"And now it's 20 years later."
BROOKLYN, PRESENT DAY
Among the streets of Brooklyn, a beauty salon was busy as it was called, "HairOuiR".
"My new stepfather, Sal, set me up in my own business: A beauty salon. He did it for my mother."
A man entering the saloon heads in and watched a woman leaving the building.
"Of course, his goons come in every week and take 80% of the profits. That, he did for himself."
"Hey, Carbone." The man said tossing out a bag.
Charlie then caught the bag.
And then Louis entered the saloon and wears a red shiny jacket labeled "BROOKLYN" that he claims it to be lucky.
"And Louis, the guy who saved my life, is now my closest friend. He thinks I can do better than this but he also thinks he looks like Denzel Washington. Chris and Martin keep in touch, and are now part of a team called the Wild Kratts."
Charlie went over to the cash register and pulled out some money as Louis waited close by.
"Uh, Toots, I was kind of hoping maybe you could ask Sal if I could keep a little extra next week you know I'd love to make improvements on the place." Charlie said placing the money in the bag.
Louis lightly shook his head.
"You want to make improvements?" Toots inquired and lightly patted Charlie's face. "Improve on what's in this bag next week." He walks off.
"Look, man, I need a favor." Louis said as Charlie went up to him. "I just got this job delivering TVs, but my partner got sick. He had one of those microwave chimichangas-"
"Louis, why do all your stories start off this way?" Charlie questioned.
"So... I need your help." Louis said getting to the point. "If I don't get these TVs off the truck, man, I don't get paid."
"Oh, this sounds illegal." Charlie said.
"Oh, no, no, no." Louis said. "Charlie, this is totally legit, man. Man, I know the guy."
"Oh, yeah, just like you knew the guy who asked you to drive the dogs up from Florida." Charlie said recalling one of his previous jobs. "Remember him?"
"Oh. So I'm supposed to know a bunch of Greyhounds were being used to smuggle diamonds?" Louis inquired.
The woman having her hair done glanced over to them with a odd look.
"Look, man, I need your help on this one." Louis said. "2 hours, tops. That's all I need. I just got the Kratt Bros and their gang to help out as well. This is really important for me."
"Louis, you have a job." Charlie reminded.
"You call working in my uncle's meat market a job, Charlie?" Louis inquired. "I sweep up cow guts and pig snouts all day, man! I need a job where I'm treated like a man. Where I get some respect. Ain't that what Aretha said? "R-E-S-P-E-C-T"?"
"Well, then, delivering TVs is definitely the answer." Charlie said sarcastically.
"I'm dying here, man." Louis said. "I need your help."
"Louis, I'm busy here." Charlie said. "Can't you see I'm busy?"
"I was busy that 20 years ago on the beach too, man." Louis said recalling the beach rescue. "Did that stop me from saving this skinny little white boy from flailing in the surf? No, I spotted what I was doing, jumped in and saved this poor little white kid. Didn't nobody want to get out and save him-"
Charlie then grabbed his jacket. "Let's go." he said wanting to get this over with.
"- so I jumped in and saved him myself." Louis said as they walked off. "You too easy."
They were soon in a delivery truck as Louis drove and Chris and Martin were with them. Along with the rest of the Wild Kratts team.
There was Aviva Corcovado who is a Spanish woman, olive skin, gray eyes, bushy dark brown hair in a ponytail, purple heart under a yellow no-hoodie jacket with a sky blue stripe on both sleeves, blue jeans, black belt with a bolt as a buckle slightly around the waist, and purple and white converse shoes. She was the inventor of the team.
Koki is an African American woman, brown eyes, black afro, yellow headband, earrings, red shirt with black short sleeves and white star, yellow bootcut pants, and red shoes with each 2 turquoise blue stripes. She was the computer specialist of the team.
And Jimmy Z who was laid-back, "stoner" personality and pilot. reddish-orange hair, a bit of facial hair, light blue eyes, freckles, blue-green baseball cap worn backwards. White long-sleeved grey shirt with a video game character, red plaid shorts, and white tennis shoes.
Also with them was Louis' dog, Waffles, a Jack Russell Terrier.
"Hey there, Waffles." Louis said as she sat on Charlie's lap. "Got a kiss for your Uncle Charlie?"
Charlie then placed Waffles down looking irritated.
"Come on, man, what's wrong?" Louis asked.
"It's just so frustrating." Charlie said. "You have no idea how difficult it is to get anywhere with Sal Maggio as your stepfather."
"Come on, it can be that bad." Jimmy said.
"Surely there might've been a few times Sal did something nice for you." Chris said.
"Hey, Sal bought you the beauty salon, didn't he?" Louis said.
"I mean, that's a good thing, right?" Aviva said.
"He barely lets me keep enough to stay alive." Charlie said.
"Hey-Hey, look, if Sal Maggio was my stepdaddy, you know what I'd be doing right now." Louis said. "I'd just be: Bah! Come on, Charlie, break it down with me." He steered the truck side to side. "Snake it. Come on, snake it to the- Whoa, whoa!" 2 people quickly got out of the way.
"It'd be a party, Charlie." Louis said.
"Idiot!" The man shouted.
"Be a party." Louis said.
"I don't think Sal Maggio is that kind of guy, Louis." Martin said.
Then there was trouble as a police siren was heard, and Charlie turns to the side mirror seeing a police car behind them.
"Pull over to the curb." An officer called out.
"Louis?" Charlie said feeling they were in trouble.
"What?" Louis said.
"Whose truck is this?" Charlie asked.
"That I can't be certain of." Louis admitted. "It came with the TVs."
"This is a stolen vehicle." The officer called out.
"Apparently, this is a stolen vehicle." Louis said growing nervous.
"Oh, my God." Charlie said.
"Oh, no." Koki said.
"Pull over to the curb." The officer called out through his microphone. "Pull over to the curb!"
Suddenly Louis floors the gas pedal and speeds up.
"Louis, what are you doing?" Chris asked.
"Slow down!" Martin said.
"Louis, pull the truck over." Charlie said. "Just tell them the truth! Pull the truck over!"
"Charlie, I can't pull the truck over, man!" Louis said. "I'm still on probation from that Greyhound thing."
Waffles turns to Louis.
The police car continued chasing them.
"Come on, Louis." Charlie said.
Louis then cried.
"Watch out!" Louis yelled as he drove through the cars. "Watch out! Here we go! Okay!"
"You're breaking so many laws right now!" Charlie said.
"Oh! If we go to jail, I'm gonna tell everybody you're a hairdresser!" Louis said.
Charlie then turns as then Louis exclaimed.
They continue speeding through the street.
"Sidewalk, Louis! Sidewalk!" Charlie yelled.
Louis then steers the truck on the sidewalk.
"Look out!" Charlie yelled as they ran into a newspaper stand. "Are you crazy!?"
"You trying to hurt someone?!" Chris yelled.
"Sorry!" Louis cried. "Excuse me!"
"Red light!" Charlie yelled.
They all then screamed.
They drove through the red light as then a passing car hits the back of the truck causing it to swiftly drift as it tilts on it's right tires. They all screamed as Waffles whimpered as she slid behind them.
A few people in a diner jumped as a taxi rushed by avoiding getting hit.
In the truck, Waffles slid back.
The truck spun as it was in an angle to tipping over as the back doors swung open, and a few TVs fell out.
"That wasn't my fault!" Louis yelled.
The truck then bumps against a taxi, which bumps against a police car, and ran into another police car.
Charlie turns to Louis.
"That was my fault." Louis admitted. "Ahh!"
He drives the truck towards a sidewalk as people quickly got out of the way.
"Coming through!" Louis yelled.
A TV fell out of the truck as a police car hits it, and then hits the side of a car. And the truck drives through the sidewalk.
"AHH!" Louis screamed.
Charlie looked back as a police knocks a TV aside, and a few people in a staircase leading to a subway quickly braced against the walls as a few TVs fell by.
The truck speeds back on the street as a number of TVs fell out hitting the pavement breaking into pieces.
As he drove, Louis saw his left sleeve caught on the handle of the door trying to pull it free.
"Charlie!" Louis grunted and soon pulls it free as Charlie stared. "Almost ripped my lucky jacket."
"Oh. What a relief." Charlie said sarcastically. "I forgot you were wearing your LUCKY JACKET!"
Ahead of them, 2 police cars skid and twirled to a stop and the officers got up as the truck appeared and aimed their guns out as a truck horn was heard blaring.
"Big problem: Roadblock!" Charlie said.
Behind the officers, a fish truck ran against something and tips over hitting the road on it's side.
"Bigger problem!" Charlie said grabbing Waffles.
"Fish truck!" Jimmy said.
The officers turn to the fish truck and quickly got out of the way as it skids towards them.
"Oh, no." Charlie said.
The fish truck hits the police cars as the trailer's roof broke off and a number of boxes, fish and ice fell out.
"What are you doing?" Charlie asked as they weren't stopping. "Slow down!"
"Louis, stop!" Aviva said.
"Oh, we're gonna make it." Louis said. "Hold on!"
"We're not gonna make it!" Charlie said.
"Hold on, Charlie, we're going through!" Louis yelled.
"We're not gonna make it." Charlie said closing his eyes and hid his face behind Waffles. "We're not gonna make it! No, no, no, no, no, no, no!"
They then slipped through the fish truck at the last second as a police car hits the other police cars.
"WOO! Ha, ha, ha, ha!" Louis cheered and laughed.
Charlie opened his eyes.
"Now that's what I'm talking about!" Louis cheered. "That's what I'm talking about!"
"I think the dog just peed on my leg." Charlie said. "No, I think I peed on him." He placed Waffles down.
An officer manages to climb out of his car.
"All units, intersection blocked. Suspects are at large."
Eventually, they arrived an abandoned warehouse.
"Just pull the truck over, I am getting out." Charlie said.
"No way I'm going to prison." Jimmy said.
"You can't bail on me now, man!" Louis said pulling the truck over. "Look, I got to stash these TVs until the heat cools down."
"They could be tracking us down, Louis." Aviva said.
They soon got to the back of the truck.
"Come on. We got 6 TVs left." Charlie said as they opened the doors.
A TV half over the edge tips over and drops to the ground shattering.
"5. Come on, man, help me get this up." Louis said.
"Let's just get this over with, and get out of here." Aviva said.
In the warehouse, a heavy built man with a hat went over as they carried a few TVs in.
"Hey. Is that Charlie?" He said.
"Tommy?" Charlie frowned recognizing him.
"Wait, you 2 know each other?" Koki frowned.
"What're you guys doing down here?" Tommy asked. "Uh. Your father didn't say you was coming."
"Sal?" Charlie stared.
"Yeah, this is his warehouse." Tommy said as Charlie turned to Louis.
"Louis." Chris said.
"I didn't know." Louis admitted.
"You didn't know?" Charlie said.
"I didn't know!" Louis swore.
Then whirring was heard as a police helicopter appeared from behind a building.
"Hey!" Tommy said.
The helicopter hovered.
"Uh-oh." Chris said.
"You brung the heat here, Charlie." Tommy said. "Are you crazy?"
"I didn't know, Tommy!" Charlie yelled as Tommy ran off. "I swear, I didn't know!"
The helicopter flew as 3 police cars drove as one rams through the gate as they head to the warehouse.
The Wild Kratts fearfully exclaimed as Charlie and Louis stare at each other, and then they dropped the TVs and fled for their lives.
"Oh! Waffles, come on!" Louis yelled.
Waffles quickly climbs out of the truck.
"Oh, damn!" Louis cried.
"Attention." A police officer called out. "This is the New York Police Department. We have you surrounded."
Charlie, Louis, Waffles and the Wild Kratts ran through the warehouse.
"Come on, Charlie, come on, hurry!" Louis cried.
They quickly rushed to a staircase, but Louis saw Waffles standing in place.
"Waffles!" He cried. "She's frozen with fear!"
Louis quickly heads down to get her.
Outside, the police were just catching Tommy and any other goons with him.
"Surrender now!" An officer called out.
"Get over there!" An officer demanded pinning Tommy against the truck. "Move!"
Other officers quickly rushed inside.
"I repeat."
"Hurry, they're right behind us!" Koki said.
"Come on, Louis, come on!" Charlie said. "What is wrong with you?"
Louis quickly hurries up the stairs.
"It's not my fault!" Louis said as they rushed up the stairs. "Waffles is upset!"
The police soon got to the staircase.
And the group soon made it to the top.
"Perhaps you should've thought of that before you took your dog on a crime spree!" Charlie said as they blocked the stairs with a barrel.
"How was he suppose to know that?!" Jimmy said.
Louis soon kicks another barrel as it lands on the first one.
"Come on, girl!" Louis said as they ran off.
The police hurried up the stairs.
"Let's go, let's go, let's go!" Louis said as they ran across the 2nd level.
The police soon got to the blocked section of stairs.
"Great!" A police officer complained.
Charlie, Louis and the Wild Kratts soon got to a dead end.
"Dead end, Louis." Charlie said. "Dead end."
Outside, he saw a helicopter circling the warehouse like a falcon watching prey on the ground.
"There's gotta be a way out." Jimmy said panicking.
"No, it's not, Charlie." Louis said seeing something. "Look at this. Think I got a way out."
Charlie joins them as they saw a chute.
"You don't even know where it goes." Charlie said. "No!"
"We can do this." Louis said.
Meanwhile, the police have finally gotten a barrel loose and tossed it aside.
Louis looked back as the police were beginning to climb over.
"You can stay up here if you want." Louis said. "I'm going down that chute!" He then ran to the chute. "I LOVE YOU, MAMA!"
He then screamed as he jumped into the chute as the Wild Kratts looked down through it.
"Charlie!" Louis yelled as he slid down and Waffles howled.
Charlie looked down the chute.
"Louis?" Charlie said.
"Okay, chute or police!" Martin said.
He then jumps into the chute as Chris, Aviva, Koki and Jimmy followed.
The cops rushed across the level as Charlie soon gave out and then jumps down into the chute screaming as they all screamed sliding down.
Soon Louis slid to the end as he drops into the water, and the Wild Kratts and Charlie soon followed.
Above them, the police looked around as they didn't see them.
"Not over here." A cop said.
"Where'd they go?" Another said.
"We lost them. Stand by for further instructions. Over."
The helicopter turns and flies off.
"That was too close for comfort." Koki said.
"Yeah, didn't think we'd ever ran from the police." Aviva said.
"Anything else you'd like me to help you with today?" Charlie asked.
"No, that's pretty much it." Louis said as they swam off.
"Let's get outta here." Martin said.
Author's Note:
If you like both Wild Kratts and Kangaroo Jack, this will be a good one.
Also, I actually found a DeKay's Brown Snake in my house. Crazy, right? But don't worry, I brought it outside safety.
