Marcy and the Frogs

Chapter 12: New Wartwood

While Hop Pop is making his own breakfast with Sprig and Polly, the door opens when Marcy enters just as she yawns after coming back from the barn she slept in with Bessie last night. Probably because she's been up all night reading Bessie's History Book.

"Morning, fellas." Marcy yawned.

"Morning, Marcy." replied Sprig.

"How's your napping?" Hop Pop asked.

She sat down at the table before handing the book to Hop Pop.

"It's going good. I've finish reading the book with Bessie last night before I fell asleep." Marcy answered before she received her glass of water.

"Well, I'll be." Hop Pop was impressed. "You've read the whole thing in one night?"

"Uh-huh. I've learned so many things about her history. It was pretty amazing that you saved her from the auction. For what I've learn is that she's not just a vehicle. She's a noble, beautiful creature."

"And now that you've read this, all you need is experience."

"I'm all ears, Hopediah!" Marcy pulls out her note to be ready.

"Heh, I told you, call me Hop Pop." He chuckled.

"Oh, sorry about that."

"Now, I need yer' help at the vegetable stand. We got a bumper crop of scream beans that need sellin'."

"Wait, you worked at the vegetable?!" Marcy raise with her excitement.

"That's right. We're selling veggies at the marketplace." Hop Pop answered.

"(gasp) You mean the marketplace that takes place in Wartwood?!"

"Yep!"

Marcy forms her biggest smile, spreading her grin. She's like fangirling over about the farm and the marketplace. She knew her day would finally come, then she started to cheer.

"Woo! Look out Amphibia! It's Marcy's first day in Wartwood! Woo hoo!"

Marcy stood up from the table and start running around cheering. Hop Pop was surprised that Marcy is having a good day. Sprig was happy for her, but Polly seems puzzled at first.

"What's this all about?" Polly asked.

"Well, it's been like two in a half weeks since we took her in." Hop Pop answered.

"So, does this mean that we can finally go out?" Sprig asked.

"Hopefully, but as long as you kids have important work to do."

"First day in Wartwood! First day in Wartwood! First day in Wartwood! First day in Wartwood!" Marcy chanting before she opens the door, leaving them confused.

"And she's gone." said Hop Pop.

"Hope she take their souls." Polly deadpanned.

It wasn't even that long when Marcy runs out from the Plantar's house all the way to Wartwood. It has been so long since she was told to stay put until everything that's settled. Now that Hop Pop is finally letting them out for their chores and then today, it was her first time visiting.

She's much more excited how much she loves living in a fantasy. It kinda reminds her for her RPG or playing games with her friends. Marcy did recently visit Wartwood while helping Maddie to cure her sisters and making pizzas for everyone. That's pretty good, but for now it's her officially first visit.

"Oh, my gosh! Oh, my gosh! I've been here before, but look at this place! It's the perfect little farm town! And now, to introduce myself."

Marcy walks over to a frog who is blue, wearing his clothes like from the 30's.

"Hi! My name is Marcy. What's your name?" Marcy asked after introduced herself.

"Oh, great. An outsider." grumbled The blue frog while walking away.

She could've sworn that they've praised her for introducing pizza, but something that's been missing. So instead, she moves on to meet more people. Then suddenly, she gasps and went approached where there's a yellow frog with flower braids on her hair.

"Hi, there! My name is Marcy. Do you have any time to talk about its unique architectural history?" She asked nicely with her note book.

But she blinked her eye twice while awkwardly walking away.

"Nope!" She said.

Marcy drops her smiles. That can't be right, but then she gasps that she recognize and it's One-Eyed Wally, sitting on the barrel playing with his accordion.

She remembers where she has first encountered with, but he was spooked due to her appearance for what he truly believes that she's some sort of spirit. But not to her, she isn't. She was only thirteen years old. Marcy went approached when she interrupted him playing his accordion.

"Excuse me? Hi, I remember you. Wally, right? Are you a vagrant? Is that an accordion? Is that eye really gone?"

"Too many questions!"

Wally panicked when he throws his accordion through a window and jumps through it. Marcy sighed when looked disappointed. She walks over to the statue and sat down much to her dismay, feeling left out. What went wrong here? Just then when the Plantars arrived as they approached to her.

"There you are, Marcy. So, how'd it go?" Sprig asked.

"Oh, great. Did you know this entire town is built on top of a swamp but never sinks? That's because the designers knew exactly how heavy to make everything." said Marcy.

"I take it that you read one of those books in my office." Hop Pop guessed.

"Thanks, Hop Pop. I also learned that small communities like this don't take kindly to strangers which mean's I don't have a chance."

"Marcy, we've been talked about patience. Remember what I told you, 'Slow to accept, and even slower to respect'."

(sigh) I know, I know. I wish there are good frogs here that are actually nice besides just you guys, Mrs. Croaker, and The Flours."

"Cheer up, Marcy. I'm sure there are lot of good frogs out here that are actually nice." said Sprig.

Then suddenly, they heard a cried.

"AMBUSH!"

Out of nowhere, a little frog girl jumps out of nowhere, tumbling Sprig down to the ground. Marcy was quite surprised how this kid sprang out to ambush him.

"I'm hit! Sprig down! Sprig down!" Sprig yield.

"Ha ha!"

She got off of him while standing up smirking. She's like Sprig's age, but her skin is yellow with a pale patch under her mouth and dark spots on her cheeks and her two visible tufts of hair are orange. She wears a turquoise hat with ragged patches, frayed overalls, and light green farming clothes. Sprig was smiling at her.

"Hey, Ivy." Sprig greeted.

"Hey, Sprig." Ivy greeted "Haven't seen you in while."

"Sorry about that. I was helping out Hop Pop doing all the chores."

"Guess you're not the only one who's busy."

"Touché."

They started to giggle a bit. Marcy couldn't help, but smiling at those two. Her started to realize that this girl must be Ivy. It's her chance to introduce herself after saying 'ahem' to get them attention.

"Hi, there. You must be Ivy. I'm Marcy." said Marcy kindly.

"Oh, Ivy, meet Marcy. Oddity from another world. Marcy, meet Ivy. Childhood acquaintance and occasional sparring partner." said Sprig introducing his friends.

"Hey, I've seen you around. Nice to officially meet. Do you like being randomly attacked?" Ivy asked.

"Well, no. Not really?" replied Marcy.

"Aw, that's too bad. So, what brings you here, stranger?"

"It was my first visit here just to meet good frogs, but apparently they don't seem to like me."

"Oh, so sorry." Ivy apologize.

"Nah, it's okay. It take some time to be patience." Then Marcy snaps her fingers when her lightbulb came in. "That's it! I think I know what I should do! Time for Operation: connect with Wartwood engage-WHOA!"

She accidently fell over to the statue until it broke and fell off. Ivy and the Plantars first gasps from their reaction, then the rest of villagers were shocked and gasp as they walked towards where she slips.

"What the, the town founder whose name I don't even know! How dare she?"

"It's that clumsy spirit!"

"She'll knock the whole city down before she's through."

Hop Pop's fear instinct took over when he realized that the whole town doesn't seems settling. Marcy couldn't shake the feelings that most of the frogs were glaring at her for breaking the town founder statue. She has to fix this.

"No problem, no problem. I can fix it." said Marcy.

She pulls out two potions that Maddie taught her just to fixes a concoction that helps stick the statue back together. The whole town, included Ivy and the Plantars were very impressed that she fixed it.

"Whoa, she fixed it." said Mrs. Croaker when impressed.

"Wow! How'd you fix this?" Sprig astonished.

"I took a sculpting class from middle school." Marcy answered.

"You've been taking classes?"

"Yeah, haven't you?"

"Well, we used to go to school until it was destroyed by a giant millepede." Sprig explains.

Therefore, the crowd disembark when mumbling and grumbling.

"Typical."

"You seem all right lady, for an outsider anyway."

A young frog girl spits in walks away much to Sprig annoyance.

"Um, she's 13!" Sprig raise his arms when annoyed.

"Let it go, Sprig. We got some work to do by sellin' scream beans." said Hop Pop.

"Aw, shoot. Sorry Ivy, got chores to do." Sprig apologize.

"It's fine. I'll see you around, Sprig." replied Ivy before she winks and hops away, leaving only the four of them.

"Oh, my gosh. I just got a spit of approval." Marcy smiles.

"That wasn't a spit of approval. It takes time to be patience." Hop Pop corrects her.

"Oh! Well, I've been thinking if I could just-"

"Aw, come on! Can we just get moving already?" Polly grow impatient.

"For once, I could agree more. Chop, chop. Time's a wastin'." Hop Pop agrees when he walks off with Polly on his head.

Sprig laid his hand her legs to comfort her.

"Don't worry, Marcy. Maybe they'll understand that you're not an outsider or an evil spirit." said Sprig.

"Thanks, Sprig." Marcy thanked him.

He nodded before they left the area to start working at the marketplace. Hopefully, she'll take time to be patience, but one day she'll find her way to make them like her.

Meanwhile at the marketplace, where all bystanders are buying food like fruits and vegetables. Especially for candies. They also sell some products like tea or medicine. Maddie and her sisters are helping their dad to sell bakery like bread and muffins.

"Fresh crickets, ma'am? Always fresh."

"Worms! We got worms!"

"Are these grubs organic?"

Then it shows Marcy and Sprig carrying beans in the stock holder around their neck while Hop Pop was standing behind the stand that belongs to him and his family that they've been selling for generations.

"All right, kids. Get out there and sell like your lives depend on it. Because they do, we really need this." said Hop Pop.

"Come one, come all. Try the beans everybody's screaming about." Sprig hollers while the beans screams.

"Hmm, fascinating. I've never seen such beans that can actually screams. It's like I used to watch kids TV show where veggies can talk." said Marcy.

"What's a TV?" Sprig puzzled.

"It stands for television."

"What's a television?"

"Where people enjoyed watching like news, cartoons, sports, anime, documentary, cooking..."

"Whoa, now that's a lot." Sprig surprised. "I don't know what television is, but cool."

While they're selling beans, but then she took noticed when there were some broken lamp posts. She looked puzzled that these lamps has broken glass and a wooden stick that only holds candles. She started to pick up some clues and likes to know how long has these lamps were broken. She turns her head at Sprig to ask a few questions.

"Hey, Sprig?" Marcy asked.

"Yeah?" Sprig turn his head at her.

"How long the lamps were broken?"

He turns at the broken lamps and then just shrugged.

"It's been like that for years."

"Seriously?! When?!" Marcy exclaimed.

"I don't know? It must've been some storm or something."

"Is there any way to fix this?"

Sprig can only just shrugged. Mary exhaled in defeated. All seems is hopeless, but suddenly she when there were some tools that was left and untouched. Curious that she took step close before setting the beans down the ground. Sprig looked a bit confused at first.

"Uh, what are you doing?" Sprig asked.

When she picked up a new glass jar, she turns her glance at the lamp post. Then she took glance at the light blue axolotl who's been crafting woods to sell. That gives her an idea. A brilliant idea. She walks over to the axolotl while working.

"Excuse me?" Marcy asked.

He turns around and looked at her while adjusting his goggles.

"Can I help you?" He asked kindly.

"Is it alright if I can borrow your tools to fix the lamp posts?" Marcy asked politely.

"Well, I supposed I do-"

"Great! I'll give it back when I'm done!"

She just picks up some tools and wandered off to fix some lamp posts, but she didn't even let him finished his sentences.

"-ooon't think it's unnecessary."

"Sorry about that, Mr. Loggle." Sprig apologized. "She was just trying to fix things."

First, Marcy has start repairing some lamp posts by renovation into something like fancy like wood getting replaced by gold pole with candles inside of glass. Then she noticed that the fence looks pretty old like rotten wood, so she decided that she should repaired it and then painted into white like fancy style. She's hoping that this would gave the frogs some attention to like her.

Meanwhile at the Wartwood Town Hall, Toadie is draws the red line down to bottom from the poll because there's something what seems to be wrong. Mayor Toadstool looked upset while sitting behind his desk because most frogs stop voting for him recently.

All he care about his money and power by forcing them to vote for him, but the worst case is his fear of being powerless while frogs treating him like a lowlife criminal. Too bad that he can't even get the job done by repairing the whole town due to poor ratings.

"Oh, this is bad, Toadie. People hate us!" Mayor Toadstool groaned.

"With a passion, sir!" said Toadie.

"It's as if embezzling money from the town makes you the bad guy! (groans) If we don't fix things soon, we'll lose next month's election for sure. The only thing that can save us now is a miracle."

Then suddenly, they heard some faint voice. He walks out from his desk and looking out the window to see what's all the commotion, but what surprises him that the whole town has a little bit renovation with frogs looked amazed at the whole scenery.

Lamp posts and fences are new. The pathway was repaired to fix the hole. Toadstool couldn't believe his own eyes that the whole town has a little bit of make over. Then he laid his eyes at Marcy where she's fixing it. But wait, this kid? Was she trying to repair this rather than just tried to scare people. Then instead, he formed his scheming looks.

"Oh, my dear Toadie. I do believe our miracle has arrived."

Back at the marketplace, Hop Pop tried to sell scream beans, but nobody came. Then suddenly, he heard some mumbling that he has never heard of. He shifted his eyes to everyone that were looked impressed and amazed for which he didn't noticed.

"Leapin' larva! Look!"

"Are you seeing what I'm seeing?"

"Yeah, I think so."

Polly bounced on top of Hop's Pop when she looked curious.

"What's up?" Polly asked.

"I'm not sure what this is about. Better go check it out." replied Hop Pop.

They got out from their market stand as they head over where these folks are, but what's surprising them that the lamp post and the fences were already remodeled. It looked so fancy like they have never seen such place being renovated.

"Huh, that's new." Polly commented.

"What's goin' on?" Hop Pop asked when puzzled.

Then Sprig approach next to them.

"Marcy went to fix something that they could've done long ago." Sprig answered.

"She did?" Hop Pop repeatedly.

"Yup."

"(sigh) Come on, girl."

In a few seconds, Marcy came back after wiping her hands off from all the hard work. She spotted Sprig, Polly, and Hop Pop that were waiting for her, but didn't expect to see their reactions.

"I'm back! Sorry I took so long 'cause I have to borrow some tools so that I can patch up some fences and fixing the lamp post. Do you see how happy they were?" Marcy asked when smiles.

But unfortunately for Hop Pop, he felt uneased about her hard work. He knew what she was trying to do.

"Yes, that's very nice. But don't ya' think that's a bit too much?" Hop Pop asked. "I mean, I know what yer trying to do is to make these folks liked ya'."

"Hmm... maybe you do have a point. I gotta think something. Something big."

"Did someone say bigger?"

They turned their heads at Mayor Toadstool enters the marketplace along with Toadie just as they approach. Marcy looked puzzled that the mayor just came in despite the fact that he had treated her that way. As for the Plantars, they looked surprised.

"Mayor Toadstool? What are you doin' here?" Hop Pop asked.

"What? Can't your beloved mayor come by and just for visit?" replied Mayor Toadstool.

"Um, can I help you, sir?" Marcy asked.

"Marcy, right? Are you the one who's been making all these delightful little improvements to our town?"

"Yes sir."

"Gotta hand it to ya, I find your work mighty impressive. How'd you like to help me make some bigger improvements? I have the mind to turn this poor dump little town, into a real money making tourist attraction." Mayor Toadstool offers.

Marcy beamed with delight, thinking this is her only one shot of earning the town's trust.

"If I make this town super successful, then people will have to accept me?" Marcy asked hopefully.

"Yeah, sure whatever." Mayor Toadstool waved off before he snap his finger.

Toadie gives Marcy the plans and Toadstool instructs her to look at them.

"Now, here's what I need you to do. These structures are design to renovate this place into something new. If you change your mind, let me know."

"So, when do we start?" Marcy asked.

"Whenever you're ready. Now if you'll excuse me, I've got a few business to attend to. Cheerio." Mayor Toadstool waved before he left with Toadie behind.

Marcy is looking at the plans that he gave her. Could this be her only chance? The Plantars felt uneased about Mayor Toadstool.

"Guys? Do you see what he just offered me? He asked me if I can help him renovate this place!" said Marcy.

"I'm not really sure about all this." Hop Pop felt uncomfortable.

"Don't you remember the last time when we have first met? I mean, after all he was trying to get rid of you?" Sprig was asking her.

"I know, I know, but think about it. If I can do this, I'll have the whole town's trust and they would really like me!" said Marcy.

"Marcy, please reconsidered about this. He may be our mayor, but I'm starting to think that he can't be trusted. After everything he treated us like how he put us up in the shame cage." Hop Pop explains.

"Like the time when you failed at cooking." Polly lamented.

"Yes, thanks for realizing." replied Hop Pop sternly. "What I'm tryin' to say is that he can't be trusted. Surely, he only cares about himself rather than being cared about the town. You understand?"

Marcy wanted to protest, but he does have point. What if he's right? Maybe Toadstool only cared about himself.

"(sigh) I understand." Marcy sighed.

"That's what I thought. Now, come on. Let's get back to work." Hop Pop walks back to the stand with Polly on his head.

Sprig laid his hand on Marcy's arm just to comfort her.

"Cheer up, Marcy. You still got us. Well, especially for Maddie and Ivy. They looked cool." said Sprig.

"Thanks, Sprig." Marcy forms her small smiles.

"No problem."

Sprig walks off to rejoin his family. Marcy looks down at the plans for a moment and then she rolls up before she catches up with them.

Later that night, everyone went to bed after all the hard work they've been selling. Everyone's are sleeping, except for Marcy who's been up laying on her bed while kicking her legs repeatedly just to think about what they just said.

She couldn't sleep because there's been bugging her about this conversation. She really wanted to earn the town's trust. She really wanted help people. She was going to accept the offer to the mayor, but Hop Pop seems to have trust issue for that.

Can she just sit here and do nothing? Can this mayor be trusted? What would they say if she accepted it? When she's stop kicking her legs up and down, she sat up and she can't shake off the feelings.

"Oh, who am I kidding? I need to earn their trust."

The next day at the marketplace, The Plantars were still waiting behind their stand when trying to at least sell some beans to their customer, but nobody came. Not even single one frog to come buy and buy these. Hop Pop looked extremally tired that no one would come buy.

"(sigh) Another day, another dead end." Hop Pop sighed sadly.

"So much for selling some scream beans." Sprig looked bored while poking the bean screams.

"Can we at least sell something else besides just beans?" Polly asked.

"I wish I could, but I don't understand. What went wrong here?" Hop Pop took noticed that Marcy is not with them. "And where's Marcy?"

"Maybe she went to do some magic tricks?" Sprig shrugged.

Then suddenly, Ivy shows up after rushing towards the Plantars' stand.

"Sprig! Come quick!" said Ivy.

"Ivy? What's wrong?" Sprig asked.

"I think you should see this. The whole town has gone crazy!"

Sprig, Polly, and Hop Pop shared their glances at each other when looking puzzled. It didn't take that long by the time they have arrived. Along the way, they find the buildings constructed as classy as the ones.

Some frogs looked shocked and awe while others looked fascinated that this place has gone remodeled. It was all fancy like with the golden lamp post, the structures like old school, and a huge flower bed for a frog right in front of the their brand new train station with the giant rhino beetle pulling some freight trains.

The Plantars went all puzzled and a bit confused from all of sudden. There's no way someone could've done this place. They have never seen anything like this before.

"What in tarnation is going on here?" Hop pop asked.

"Is this real?" Sprig asked.

"Yes, and there can only mean one thing." Ivy answered.

Just then, they heard a music when the marching band starts playing. Then they sees a performance in the center of town and until both Marcy and Toadstool runs up the stage wearing their fancy outfit with glitters all over.

They're both wearing their black top hat, dark red coat with glitters on, under their red long buttoned up sleeve shirt with white bows around their neck, black dress pants, and dress shoes with the tip of gold. They also have their own cane as they both looked like some sort of ring master.

"Good morning ladies and gentle frogs!" Marcy greeted.

"And welcome to New Wartwood!" Toadstool added.

"Your city is new and improved. Thanks to the work of myself and Mayor Toadstool." said Marcy.

"Gone are the days of stump stores of Wartwood, replaced by newly imported Newtopian marble." said Toadstool filling up her speech.

"Feast your eyes on the new clock tower!" said Marcy pointing her cane to the giant golden toad that looks with every tick of the clock.

"And finally, may I present the new and improved town square statue!"

Marcy and Toadstool unveil the statue, revealing it to be solid gold and muscular that looked resembles to their first mayor who found this town. The crowd roared with applause and whistles.

"Oh, is he single?" Mrs. Croaker asked.

"Uh, it's a statue." said Wally when uneased.

"That's not what I asked!"

Then they went exploring, shopping, and browsing in the town as marching music played in the streets. Mayor Toadstool and Marcy couldn't feel any happier with their accomplishments.

"I can't believe it! They actually loved it!" Marcy chimes.

"All thanks to you, kid. We are making history." said Mayor Toadstool before he left to greet them.

Just then when she sees her frog friends walking towards the stage along with Ivy before she forms her smiles at them.

"Oh, hey guys!" Marcy greeted.

"Uh, Marcy? Are you sure this is a good idea?" Sprig asked.

"Isn't this great? We've completely transformed the place. Now everyone will have to accept me." Marcy smiles.

"That's not how this works. People will accept you, when they accept you." said Hop Pop.

"Come on, guys. This is my chance to prove myself that I'm not a threat. Just look how happy they are."

"But, we talked about this. The more you do it, there will be consequences."

"Yeah, putting too much weight in Wartwood was probably not the best idea." Ivy agrees.

"Well, at least it can't get any worse." said Sprig.

Then all of a sudden, the ground started to shake. Then cracks formed from the ground, surrounding the city. The whole crowd started to panic. The marching band didn't take noticed that they're all sinking down to the water while playing. Marcy and the Plantars were startled when all of sudden.

"I was wrong!" Sprig freaked out.

"What the heck is going on?!" Polly frantic.

"Wartwood is sinking!" Hop Pop shouted.

"Oh, no! The mayor and I must've built so much over the swamp that the weight can't take it!" said Marcy, realized her mistake.

"I for one, refuse to learn anything from this!" Toadstool called out, before he retreats in peril.

"Coward!" Ivy mocked the mayor.

"Well, they're not going to like me after this. But, I can at least make sure that everyone lives." said Marcy.

"But how are we suppose to get these folks outta there?" Hop Pop asked.

"Hey! I've got an idea!" said Ivy when lights up.

"Really?" Marcy asked.

"Come on! Follow me!"

Ivy sped off to find a better solutions. Marcy jumps off the stage and follows her behind along with the Plantars until they reached tot he train station that was not sinking for which it's good. But the only solutions by the time they arrived, they approached to giant rhino beetle that was parked by the station.

"Whoa! A giant rhino beetle?!" Marcy astonished.

"For pulling the trains? Yes, but I figured that it's the only way is to fix this. Good thing that it can be useful for rescue operation." replied Ivy.

"Wow! It's like A Bug's Life!"

"A what now?" Sprig puzzled.

"It's a Pixar movie where I used to watch. So anyway, we can fix this!"

"Then what are waiting for! Let's go help them!" Polly fists her flipper.

Marcy and her friends climbs on the giant rhino beetle while Ivy unhooks the cable from the freight train and then hops on just in time before they take off, leaving the freight train behind. Good thing that Marcy must've read a few documentary about these creatures.

"WHOA!" Sprig surprised.

"How do you fly these thing?!" Polly asked.

"Bessie is not the only one that I just tamed. I read a view books about how to tame these creatures." Marcy explains.

"Well, let's get rid of these heavy ones!" said Ivy.

Then the giant rhino beetle flew in to start lifting the first structure and then carried over to the forest and drops down by the cliff and proceed to get the next one to lighten the weight. It didn't take that long while they're getting rid of seven more marbles. Then the beetle just picks up the golden head of Toadstool by ripping it off from the clock much to Toadstool's horrified.

"NOOOOO!"

Then it drops the golden head as it fell to the ground right where the giant praying mantis was attempt to devour the pig like bug, but it was squashed thus saving the pig's life. Ivy took some rope out when hopping on the beetle's head and twirls it like rodeo until she throws the rope to the golden statue. Just as the beetle takes off, but tried to pull out so hard when it comes very heavy for the statue.

"Come on, boy! You got this!" said Ivy.

And finally, the beetle lifts up the statue and toss it over to the cliff where they dump some marble were left in the forest. Just then, when there were a frog family that lives in the forest. One is a girl and the others were her parents that looked amazed that they thought some marble came down right out from the sky.

"Yay! We got new houses!"

And so, Wartwood stops sinking and resurfaces from the water. The marching is still playing music underwater until the water drains. At last, the beetle landed and then Marcy and her friends climbs off.

"We did it, guys!" Marcy cheers.

"See, Ivy? I told you she's good." Sprig smiles.

"I like her!" Ivy agrees.

Then suddenly, they heard a female cried to her name.

"Ivy!"

They turn their heads at the female frog that is yellow. Ivy smiles that it was actually her mother.

"Mom!"

Her mother rush towards her daughter and gave her a warm hug. Marcy remembers her, but could tell that they're both mother and daughter.

"So, that must be Ivy's mom." Marcy whispers.

"Yep, that's Felicia." Hop Pop whispers back.

They let go of their embrace and looked at each others eyes that really worries her.

"Are you alright?" Felicia asked.

"Yeah, mom. I'm fine." Ivy answered.

"Oh, thank goodness."

Then suddenly, Mayor Toadstool stomps towards the Sundews when he looked pretty mad that his town was once again back to the old school. With Toadie follows behind when feeling nervous. Marcy and the Plantars took their step back before the mayor explodes.

"You! You brought that thing here and ruined everything! Now how am I supposed to convince these idiots to vote for me?!" Mayor Toadstool snapped.

"Idiots?!" Felicia offended.

"Um, sir?" said Toadie nervously.

"What is it, Toadie?" He turned his head, but went froze. "I... Oh."

Felicia is not the only one who was offended. Each folks along with Wally, Loggle, Mrs. Croaker, and Mr. Flour were all mad at him with their offensive looks. Toadstool realized that he just made a big mistake by offended them. He started to get nervous while sweating.

"Did I say "idiots"? I meant lovely, lovely townspeople, eh?" Mayor Toadstool chuckles.

"You dare called us idiots?!" Mrs. Croaker snaps.

"After all the big flood you nearly drowned us?!" Mr. Flour added.

"Shame on you!" said Loggle.

"Uh, simmer down now. Simmer-" His word was cut off when a mud was tossed right at him. "Whoa! This is an outrage! Stop that!"

The mayor of Wartwood fully retreated as the crowds tosses some mud with full of anger and disgusted. Marcy looked surprised that they have never seen some people that just turned against him.

"See what I mean? Mayor Toadstool can't be trusted." Hop Pop reminded her.

"Well, guess I don't have to worry about the crowds." said Marcy hopefully.

"Uhh, Marcy?" Sprig pointed his finger.

He points to the townsfolk with disappointed looks on their faces. Mr. Flour shook his head when frowned. Sure Marcy saved them, but she was the one who almost caused the city to sink in the first place. Marcy knew what she had to do.

"I'm so sorry everyone. I know I messed up pretty bad. I really wanted to you to like me, but I took things way too far." said Marcy when lowered her voice.

Then Mrs. Croaker just walked closer to Marcy with her apologies look. Despite the fact that she did help Marcy win the contest, but however she looked a bit mad for being reckless.

"Marcy, was it? I think I speak for all of us when I say, we're all pretty mad at you. You're a walking disaster who doesn't know when to quit! You nearly destroyed the town and killed us all in the process!"

"But, I only wanted to help." said Marcy with her sad voice.

"Help?! Have you done enough already?!" Felicia cried.

"HEY!" Ivy steps up when defending Marcy from the crowds. "It's not her fault! Leave Marcy alone!"

"She's right!" Sprig steps up too when defending his best friend. "Marcy is not a dangerous person! She's just lost and needs our help. We're the ones who took her in."

"Are you crazy?!" Loggle exclaims.

"Yeah! What if it goes nutty tomorrow and starts taking our souls?!" Wally looked panicked.

"Oh, don't be ridiculous! She's thirteen for cryin' out loud! What did yer children ever do to you?" said Hop Pop sternly.

He could see some townsfolks muttering that if he's right. Maybe they were kinda too harsh towards Marcy.

"Just as I thought. I'll keep an extra eye on her and I assure you that it won't happen again." said Hop Pop.

They wanted to protest, but they couldn't. What Sprig and Hop Pop was telling the truth. Mrs. Croaker just dropped her anger and looked convinced that Marcy is not a threat.

"(groaned) Oh, all right, but I don't like it and I don't want that happen again." said Mrs. Croaker.

Hop Pop nodded. Then the townsfolks disembarks and walks away while mumbling. The conductor toads just retrieved the giant beetle after giving Hop Pop a thanks for lending it. That leaves Marcy, the Plantars, and the Sundews. She turns her head at Ivy when smile softly.

"Thanks, Ivy." Marcy thanked her.

"No problem. That's what friends are for. Right?" said Ivy.

"Right." She raises her fist to fist bump her new friend.

Then she rejoins with her mother who gave her a concerned look towards at Marcy before she and her daughter left. Now that leaves the four of them. Marcy exhaled very sadly. They don't like seeing her sad like this. Polly felt bad for her.

"Come on, girl. Let's go home." said Hop Pop softly.

She nodded and start walking back to their house along with them. She did saving the whole town, but didn't even earn their trust. She felt like everybody hates her except for Ivy and the Flours. Even her frog friends who took her in.

Later that night, they decided that they should get some rest. At least that Hop Pop has to closed down the market stand early just to give Marcy some space. In her new basement, she changes her outfit into her pajamas with her pink flower on her hair.

She was sitting on her bed when looking at her top hat that she wears for the ceremony, but she wasn't in a good mood. Marcy sadly toss her hat away to the ground when exhaled. She tried so hard to make them like her, but she has failed their trust. Then Sprig opens the hatch door, but only his pajamas with his sleep hat just to check on her.

"Marcy? May I enter?" Sprig asked.

She didn't reply, but nodded sadly. Sprig walks downstairs and sat next to her after she crosses her knees.

"How are you feeling?" Sprig asked when concerned.

"(sigh) Can I be honest with you?" Marcy asked.

"Sure."

She turns her head with her sad face. It really hurt for him when she looked sad.

"Am I a messed up?"

"Huh?" Sprig blinked.

"I mean, am I... really messed up?" she asked again.

"Of course not. You're my best friend. What makes you say that?"

"Well, the thing is..." She pauses for a moment, but continues. "Before I was adopted. I kinda messed up so bad."

"What do you mean?"

"You remember what I've been talking about how I was once an orphan?"

"Uh-huh?" Sprig nodded.

"Well, you see how bad I was when trying to make some new friends. I worked really hard just to get some kids to like me. I wanted to share my interests to them like how I love to read books or play videogames, but they just walked out and no one seems to bothered. I mean, how hard is it for someone to like me. It's like my dad always worked so hard just to dig up the tunnel before the hy-" She pauses for a second once again.

She was going to tell Sprig about her life story, but then again she wasn't ready to tell him about her family just yet. So, she decided just to covered up before she speaks again.

"Hydrogen floods the whole tunnel. Yeah, he messed up pretty bad like how I messed up. Heh, looks like my dad and I are on the same common, huh?"

"You missed him very much, have you?" Sprig asked softly.

"Y-yeah, I sure do." Marcy answered.

"You keep telling me about your father. What's he like?"

"Well, my dad seems okay, but sometimes that he overprotects me from anyone. Don't get me wrong, I love my dad. I really do. He's the one who found me when I was an orphan. We shared together, we played together, and we sang together. He even took me on my first vacation trip before he applied a job. That's how I based off of my favorite theme park right here in Wartwood. I really wish he could see this, just to meet you. Along with my mother, my uncle, and my... big brother."

She looked down to her feet while crossing her legs until her small tears started to form. Sprig hate seeing her crying. No one has ever seen her cried like this before. He was going to tell her, but he let her continue to speak before she shed her tears.

"I'm so sorry, Sprig. I missed my family so much."

She puts her head down and cries softly. Sprig felt so sorry for her.

"I know how that feels. Just like you, I even tried to make some friends with other kids, but nobody likes me that much except for Ivy and Maddie. They're my friends though, then you showed up just to prove that you're not danger to anyone." said Sprig.

"B-but I hurt them. They could've died because me."

"Marcy, I don't care what everyone said about you. You are the most talented girl that I ever met. You're my best friend, more than anything."

Marcy forms her small smile when wiping her tears. She felt a bit better after Sprig was cheering her up from all that stress. He laid his hand on her back to comfort her.

"Cheer up, Marcy. I'm sure that your next idea would work out." replied Sprig.

"Th-thank you Sprig, for everything." said Marcy.

"No problem." Then he started to yawn when it's bedtime. "Welp, we should get some sleep."

"Good idea. Think you can cuddle with me, for sleepover?" Marcy asked kindly.

"By all means. As long as we don't get hot or cold at the same time."

"(giggles) Oh, Sprig."

Marcy snuggled herself in her bedsheets while Sprig snuggled himself with his blanket that he brought down so that she doesn't have to be alone for awhile. Then she taps the mushroom to turn out the light until it glows lower like a night light. She turn her eyes to see him drifting to sleep.

"Goodnight, Sprig." said Marcy.

"Goodnight, Marcy. Tomorrow it'll be better. I promise." replied Sprig.

She nodded before she drifted to sleep while holding her stuffed frog. Sprig went to sleep before he let out a soft croak. Then Hop Pop opens the hatch door just to check on her, but what makes him happy that Marcy and Sprig were sleeping separately. He was so glad that everything turned out just fine. So he closes the hatch door to leave two kids sleeping so peacefully. He swore and oath not just to keep an eye on her, but protecting her from any necessary. What ever it takes.

And that's a wrap! It took me a bit longer to figured out how the plot was going. I was originally going to introduced Ivy in later chapters, but instead I made her debut early because it's a bit easier for that. I would like to give some credits to a friend of mine, FlamingChainsaw who came up with the ideas. And also for three OC's that I made them cameo that belongs to Amano404 so that it'll be much funnier like all cartoons. Hope you enjoyed reading and stay tuned for the next chapter!
