Chapter 15: A Pirates Life
During that day in Newtopia, Anne went into the city of her own without being accompanied because everybody knows her well. Some were friendly towards her while others were obviously ignored. Luckily for her, she made some friends during her time in the city. That's when she went to see her friends at the pet shop when Anne was showing her phone to Sammie and Alex.
"And this baby is Domino, my pet cat." said Anne when showing her photo of her pet cat to them.
"Aw, she is so cute!" Sammie cooed.
"And she has a tail." Alex added.
"That's because she's a mammal. She also has whiskers and her cute little nose." Anne explains.
"Do cats evolved?" Sammie asked.
"Only caterpillar evolves into butterfly." replied Alex.
Just then, the bell rang when the door was open just as the kids turn their heads at General Yunan who came in to see Anne.
"Ah, there you are, Anne. I've been wandering where you were wandering off." said Yunan.
"Sorry, ma'am. I was just showing this to my friends." replied Anne.
"That thing? What is that? Some sort of kill-a-pillar?" Yunan curious when looking closer to Anne's phone
"That's Domino, my pet cat."
"A cat? Is it a predator?
"Well, not really a predator, but all I know is when cat eats fish, mice, and birds."
"Ooh, we have bird here."
"Really?"
"Yep, this is exactly why I would like for you to meet." Yunan walks outside as Anne follows along with Sammie and Alex.
"Oh, then who's your- WHOA!" Anne just went awestruck.
What she was looking at is a giant sparrow wearing golden engraved armor with a carved symbol resembling that of Newtopia's flag across the chest as well as a single, green feather protruding from his helmet. Strapped across his back is a wooden saddle capable of carrying passengers. Across from his left eye is a small pink scar possibly received from a fight.
"Impressive, huh? Meet Joe Sparrow, our finest air transport of all Newtopia." said Yunan as she introduce to Joe Sparrow when he chirps.
"Wow! He's so huge! It's like bigger than a dinosaur." replied Anne.
"Uh, a what?" Yunan puzzled.
"I'll tell you about that later." She looks up and sees the scar across his face. "Is that a scar? Kinda reminds me of a lion from The Lion King."
"What's a lion?" Sammie tilted her head.
"Joe Sparrow, huh. He can fly anywhere, right?" Anne asked.
"Yes." Yunan answered.
"Great! Now let's climb aboard and go look for my friends." Anne was about jumps up, but Yunan grabbed her shoulder to stop.
"Whoa, hold it there, kiddo. You're way too young to fly up there all alone and plus it's way too dangerous." said Yunan.
"What? You said that he can fly. Why can't I go out there?" Anne asked.
"Look, you're good kid, but the king says that it is way too dangerous to go out there for a human. Unless you can talk to King Andrias in person."
"Alrighty then, I will talk to him and he'll be begging to help me find my friends."
"What do you mean I can't go out?!"
Anne was not having a good day when King Andrias insist that she should stay while his scouts were searching everywhere, but still no sign of them. That's when Anne was talking with the king in the throne room, but it didn't end well for her. Olivia was there as well while stood next to Anne.
"I'm sorry, my dear. My scouts are doing everything they can, but we don't know where your friends are." King Andrias assured her.
"But it's been few weeks! What if something ever has happen to them?" replied Anne.
"Where ever they are now, I'm sure that they're both safe.
"Yeah, but... I'm restless. I can't help it. I've got to go out there. They need me."
"I know, my dear. But if you go out there, then the bandits will captured you and sold you to highest bidder. I have seen such place by eons and speaking of which."
Andrias looks up and sees the message bug that just flew in with the letter until it give to the king before he took his fancy glasses out so that he could read it until he smiles.
"Interesting. General Yunan?"
"Sire?" Yunan steps up.
"I have a new mission for you. There was a great robbery by pirates at the seashore. I highly doubt that Captain Mudbeard is at it again. I need you to find him and bring him to me alive along with the crew." said King Andrias.
"Wait, pirates?" Anne repeated.
"That's what I said. The pirates that rob the banks."
"Your highness, I will not fail for I General Yunan, Scourge of the-"
"Can I go with you?" Anne cuts off Yunan's motto.
"Pardon?" Yunan puzzled.
"Um, well, if my friends are not here or there, I was thinking." Anne started to think of something.
"Heh, no offense, but you're way too young to go out there. It's not safe for a human." said Yunan.
"Hey, I'm thirteen years old. I can handle myself."
"I have to agree with Yunan for once. It's for your own safety." Olivia agrees.
"Et tu, Olivia?" Anne frowns.
"I'm sorry, Anne. But do please try to understand and it's for your own good."
"Come on! What does this have to do to against me?"
"I never said that we're against you, but we're trying to protect you."
"She's right. What matters now is that you will remain safe in the castle until then. One day, you will understand." said King Andrias.
Anne really wanted to argue with him, but she doesn't want to push him too far. All she ever wanted was to accompany Yunan so that she could help her looking for her friends, but she couldn't just because she is the only human being that ever considered to be protected by the king's safety. Instead, she just exhaled when gives in.
"(sighs) I understand." Anne sighed sadly.
"Don't feel sad, Anne. I will do what I can is to find your friends. In the mean time, we have a long day ahead of us." said King Andrias as he stares at the Thai girl walks towards the exit, leaving the three of them behind.
"So, when is my next mission?" Yunan asked.
"Whenever you're ready." replied King Andrias.
When Anne overhears their conversation, she started to think of something that she wasn't supposed to when showing off her big grin face with a little scheme. Anne is having her wonderful, awful idea.
Later on at the docking bay, Anne quietly passing by after sneaking off from the castle without being spotted. There she could see Yunan climbing aboard on the ship with some newts that was loading and decking the ship with their captain on board. All she has to do is sneaking in by climbing up the boat. First she walk fast closer to the crate, then went inside and closes it before one of the newt ties up the crate and loads it up on board. Once the crate was loaded, she slowly opens the lid to take a peak where she sees Yunan talking to the captain.
"I want to be there as soon as possible." said Yunan.
"Yes, General. But are you sure that you don't need any help?" The captain asked.
"They slowed me down. I must face them alone."
"As you wish, General."
Once the captain has got off from the boat, the rest of the crew have to leave the boat while Yunan unties the rope, the sail was unfolded, and then the boat went off to set sail to the sea. Yunan is on her solo mission without anyone to help her, but little did she not know that Anne has been stowaway. As they reached to the ocean, Yunan walks inside to get changed.
It didn't take that long when she got out while dressing up like a pirate, but then she heard a small thud. She started to get suspicious that she is not alone. She turns and looked at the crate as the general take step closer until she opens the lid, but went shocked that the girl was in there this whole time.
"Anne?!" Yunan gasps.
"Uh... hello." Anne nervously waved.
"What in the blazes are you doing here?!" Yunan exclaims.
"What does it look like I'm doing? I'm coming with you." replied Anne after climbing out from the crate.
"Absolutely not! It is far too dangerous for a human."
"Hey, I know most pirates that are dangerous since I watched all five movies from the skeleton curse to the walking dead pirates."
"I don't know what this movies are, but seriously! I work alone." Yunan walks up to the helm to pilot the ship.
"What are you, some sort of bounty hunter?" Anne retorts.
"(chuckles) Stubborn as always. You know, Lady Olivia is gonna be pretty worried that you just snucked out from the castle." Yunan chuckles.
"I know, I know. But what if my friends are out there in the ocean if they're not in the main land?" Anne theorized it.
"I don't think that's impossible if your friends are out there. Why do you care for them so much?" Yunan asked when tying up the rope.
"Because I met them when I was in kindergarten. When you got your friends by your side, anything is possible. Whatever you want, a real friend will help you get. And you know what I want?"
"To look for your friends?"
"Exactly."
"You really care about them. Do you?" Yunan turn her head at her.
"Yes, I do care about them." Anne answers.
"Uh-huh, can you name and subscribe them?" Yunan ask when Anne shows the photo to her.
"These two is what I'm talking about. The girl on the right is Marcy. She used to be an orphan until she was adopted by her father and her uncle. That one in the middle is Sasha, she's like an alpha and always protecting us from those bullies." Anne explains.
"So, what else do you've been doing back home?"
"We've been hanging around a lot like playing games, watching TV, go out for shopping, some stuff like that."
"Do you go to school?"
"Well, my mom told me that I have to keep my grades up otherwise I would get into trouble." Anne shrugged.
"Oooh! What did you do?" Yunan asked so eagerly.
"Um, well... we did ditched school, then doing some... prank?" Anne answers nervously.
"Prank?! Ha! I've delt with some pranksters. Clearly, some jokes may be funny, but it is very disrespectful to the glory of our city." said Yunan.
"Really? What did they do?" Anne asked.
"A couple of rugrats that tricked the vendor to steal food or graffiti art on the city hall, but ends up locking up in the dungeon." Yunan answered.
Anne gulped that it totally reminded her back home when she and her friends used to do some jokes, but she knew that her parents would be furious if they only get caught. They're lucky that they didn't get into trouble otherwise she is no better than this. Then suddenly, Yunan noticed when she spread her grin.
"There they are!"
Anne turns her head that there were three pirate ships with black flag with a newt skull that looked resemble to Jolly Roger flag. This could only mean one thing for Yunan after getting closer to the boats without being spotted.
"There's only three of them!" Anne exclaims.
"Three ships? Yes. The whole crew? Hundreds of them." replied Yunan when she put on her pirate hat.
"What's up with the disguises?" Anne asked.
"Oh, trust me. They don't know what hit 'em."
"How can I help?"
"Stay hidden."
"What?! Oh, come on! I faced bullies for once!"
"Have you learn to defend yourself?" Yunan looks back at her.
"Of course, I do! My mom sign me up for this." replied Anne.
"Then stay put! I can't risk for you getting hurt. That's an order."
Anne wanted to protest, but she couldn't. All she wanted to is to go look for her friends, but what if they're not in the ocean or get captured. She lowered her head in shame while rubbing her arms.
"Yes, ma'am." said Anne gloomily.
"Good, now stay here and don't do anything stupid until I get back." Yunan jumps off the boat to another and went crawling very quietly.
Anne looked very disappointed that she was told to stay put. She really wanted to prove to the general that she can handle herself and tired to be like a damsel in distress. But when she turn her heads at the vinegar and baking soda. She looked curious like how did they get such stuff like this, but suddenly she has an idea while smirking.
Meanwhile, the were group of newt pirates that were working on deck, mopping the floor, and scrubbing with soap while others were chattering about something until their pirate captain, Mudbeard who was an axolotl with black beard, dark trench coat, a pegleg on his left leg, and a parrot like bug sat on his right shoulder came to announce his crew.
"My fellow crews! Today we celebrate the day not just only the bank, but we have captured the most majestic ship that sails the seas, The Green Lady! Soon, we'll gather as many treasure we can and we'll be richest pirates of all Amphibia! Nothing can stop us now!"
His crew members were cheering while laughing and raise their toast to their pirate captain, but until when Yunan jumps down causing them to stop cheering and then gasp with shock.
"Alright, you worthless scallywags! You had your fun, but you will surrender yourself to me and you will return the ship for what you have stolen!" said Yunan.
Somehow, all of the pirates started to cackle, thinking that it was all just some sort of a joke. Yunan frowns before giving them a glare. Captain Mudbeard steps up and gives her a stare down.
"And who are you tellin' me what to do?" Captain Mudbeard asked while smirking.
"(chuckles) I'm glad you ask. I am General Yunan, Scourge of the Sand Wars, Defeater of Ragnar the Wretched, and the youngest newt to ever achieve the rank of general in the great Newtopian Army!" When she finished her motto, the whole went shocked. However, the pirate captain was unamused.
"Oh, then where is your army, I wonder?" He asked.
"Oh, I have an army once." replied Yunan before she releases two long switchblades in each gauntlet like wolverine claws. "They slowed me down!"
That's when they draw their swords and pointed their pistols at her as the general gives them her sharp teeth like smiling at them.
"Then you're makin' a mistake for comin' alone, lassie." said Captain Mudbeard.
"Squawk! Big mistake!" The parrot squawk.
Then all of sudden, they heard a battle cry as they looked up and see someone is swinging down aboard on their ship and then lands in front the general that went shocked to see who it is.
"ANNE?!"
That's right. Anne is now wearing her pirate outfit with dark blue trench coat over white shirt, brown pants, black boots, and a dark blue hat with yellow feather. She looks up and when smirking at the pirate captain.
"Avast mateys! Prepared to be boarded, captain!" said Anne.
"Kid! What the frog are you doing?! You're not supposed to be here!" Yunan whispered when chided.
"Hey, I wanted to help." Anne whispered back.
"You are slowing me down! I work alone!"
"Not if we work together as a team."
"I'm sorry, am I interruptin'?" Captain Mudbeard interrupts the argument as his crew walks closer to the two of them. "Is this one yours?"
"It looks more valuable specimen." said One of the pirate looking interested.
"Let's sell her to the highest bidder."
"Yeah!"
"Over my dead body!" Anne gives them a glare.
"Ooh! Tough one, ain't ya? Well, it appears that you are outnumbered." said Captain Mudbeard.
"Wanna bet?" Anne smirked at the captain.
Then suddenly, the smaller ship just went off with the explosions by going over the stolen ship until it crash with another ship, setting off another explosives. The whole crew went totally deep shocked and so does the captain. Yunan went awestruck as well before laying her eyes at Anne.
"What did you do?" Yunan whispers.
"I know about chemistry from science class by mixing the baking soda and vinegar." replied Anne.
The pirate captain shifted his head at them before gives them a cold hardened glare that he may have lost two of his ships.
"GET THEM!" Captain Mudbeard ordered.
The newt pirates let out their battle cry as they charged to attack. As of cue, Anne draws out her tennis rack like a weapon as the Thai girl and the general starts to fight back as swords were clanging while kicking and punching in the face. Yunan was gonna go some lecturing with her, but what Anne did was really impressed.
"So, that was your plan?" Yunan asked while sword fighting with the skinny newt.
"I've been sitting in the castle all weekend and do nothing." replied Anne after kicking the other newt off by her feet.
"Then why bother showing up after you stow away aboard on my ship?" Yunan swing her tail at the skinny newt.
"I'm tired of being a damsel in distress! I wanted to prove that I am responsible!" Anne swung her tennis rack at the newt when he's knocked out while dropping his sword.
"Did Olivia taught you that?"
"Yes, she did."
Side by side, they keep fending off against the pirates while sword fighting until Anne felt that her legs were tied up by a tail and then slips and fall while dropping her tennis rack. She looks up at the topless newt when cackles while raising his dagger, but then Anne swings her leg to flip off the newt by his leg and then jumps up to the floor.
More pirates coming up to attack her, but she does doing her Muay Thai skills when yelling and punching their faces, kicking their stomach, and stomping their tails. She punched the other one from behind like counter attack. Yunan couldn't believe what she has seen. That kid just went and beaten up some newts like a pro wrestler. She grins at her.
"How'd you do that?" Yunan asked.
"Muay Thai. My mother sign me up for this." replied Anne before grabbing the tail and spins around until she releases him screaming towards the barrel.
"Teach me that."
Then came out of know where, Brian, a big buffy toad that just startled them with attack when clash his sword against Yunan by deflecting with her claws, but looked surprised for his appearance.
"What? A toad?!" Yunan puzzled.
"That's right! The only toad that works for pirate!" replied Brian.
"Uh, if you're pirates, how can you have a tax accountant?" Yunan asked.
"I got fired after breaking the rules."
"Oh, okay."
She just bunked his head as the toad fainted. Captain Mudbeard was watching from the view when his whole crew was being beaten by the Thai girl, showing her off skills. He went growl after drawing his swords out as his parrot flew off. He jumps off and went to confront Anne and Yunan as they turn their head at them. He looks very angry at them.
"You may have blew up me ships and crew, but you have made me angrier!" Captain Mudbeard growls.
"Then you shouldn't have taken what's theirs." replied Anne after picking up her tennis rack.
"Dead or alive. You're coming with us." Yunan pointed her blades at the pirate captain.
He charged towards the two of them as they fought against each other. One by one, both Anne and Yunan deflected the attack as the pirate captain swung his sword at them until he nearly apprehend her, but she rolls down after her tennis rack was tossed up and then she caught it with her hand.
"Hey, you codfish! Here!" Anne taunted.
He growls at her before striking towards her, but she blocked the sword thanks to her trusty tennis rack until she deflects him and kicks him in the stomach. He drops the sword as he fell to his knee, feeling pain in his stomach. Yunan quickly grabs the rope and ties him up until he has been defeated.
"How could I get beaten by this creature?!" Captain Mudbeard exclaims.
"I am Anne Savisa Boonchuy, Practitioner of Muay Thai, Player of Tennis, Expert Matchmaker and Shipper, and fluffy animal lover extraordinaire girl there is! In your face, sucka! YEAH! Uh-huh! Uh-huh!" Anne cheers while doing her victory dance by using the floss.
Yunan just staring at her oddly until smiling towards her making her realize that this kid was a really tough one. Maybe she could teach her someday when they got back to the mainland.
Few hours later, The Green Lady has been docked back to the shore when piloted by General Yunan and the boat was tied up to the back so that she could give it back to them as well. All of the newt guards were waiting as the boat approached until they came up and sees Captain Mudbeard and his crew were all tied up in the ropes next to Anne with her arms crossed. The parrot also was locked up in a cage.
"Parley?" Captain Mudbeard groaned in defeated.
"The ship is yours, gentlemen." said Yunan.
The guards nodded as they gathered the pirates and escorted them to the dungeon while the rest of the guards are confiscating their weapons and stolen money. The king will be very pleased. As the two of them got off the ship, they walk towards to the castle. Just then, when Lady Olivia is right there waiting for them, her arms crossed as she's tapping her foot with an upset look. Anne drops her smile when she looked nervous.
"Enjoy your little voyage, did you, Master Anne?" Olivia asked.
"Heh heh, guess you figured it out, huh?" Anne nervously chuckled.
"Indeed. King Andrias would like to have a discussion with you." replied Olivia.
Anne went gulped, thinking that she was in deep trouble. Yunan also cringed if something ever happens to this kid.
Later on in the the king's office, somehow this conversation ends well when Andrias was all impressed for Anne's action while assisting the general to take out some pirates. Olivia is still looking upset with her arms cross, standing next to Yunan.
"(chuckles) You managed to chemistry for both baking soda and vinegar by blowing up two ships? I'm impressed!" King Andrias chuckled.
"So, you're not mad?" Anne asked when raising her eyebrows.
"Mad? Of course, not! You're reminded of me when I was your age." replied Andrias.
"Wait, you do?"
"Sure do. Back when I was a prince, I used to sneak aboard on ships all the time. Looks like I'm not the only one who rebelled."
"Huh, how about that. Does your parents know about this?" Anne asked curious.
"Actually, my mother passes away by illness. It's just me and me my father, Aldrich." replied Andrias when showing Anne to the portrait of King Aldrich who looked like him, but older than he is. "He used to be the king from thousands of years ago until that night, he died of old age. I am now crowned king of Newtopia and it is my duty to look after the city and its people."
"Oh, I am so sorry." Anne apologize softly.
"It's alright, kiddo. If I have a queen and raised a son, he'll be following my footstep, raise with an iron fist like his father." replied Andrias.
"Wait, you have a son?" Anne perks up.
"Wish I have, but other than that. It's just my imagination." He chuckled.
"I'm surrounded by goofballs." Olivia muttered.
"You two did an excellent job by teaming up and apprehend these pirates." said King Andrias.
"Oh, um... thank you." Anne blushes.
"Of course, your highness." Yunan bows with respect.
"You're dismissed. Off with you now, my friends." He said.
The three bows before they turn and leave the office until the doors closes. Then suddenly, the eye opens on the crown, telling him about the girl.
"No, my lord. She hasn't found any locations of her friends while went to the sea with my general." King Andrias answered as he heard some whispers. "Of course, my lord. Olivia was concerned about her disappearance otherwise it would the triple search parties. I still need to maintain her trust to me."
As the eye gives him a glare and then closes its eye on the crown. Andrias let out a sigh with relief. As long as the girl was around, he will find a way to maintain her trust to him until it's time.
"I'm sorry that I sneak aboard on her ship without telling you." Anne apologize while walking in the hallway with Olivia and Yunan.
"Then what were you thinking? You could've been killed." Olivia chided.
"I know, I know. I'm sorry I scared you. I just wanted to get my friends back."
"I understand with your concern, but as the king's advisor, it is my duty to keep you safe. Even if it means that you are the first human that has ever visit in Amphibia and I assure you that the king will do his best to send out more scouts to find them. Just have faith in him."
Anne stops walking and looks down in shame. She really felt regret for sneaking aboard with Yunan, like the way how she was forced to ditched school and dared to steal the music box from the thrift store. Olivia and Yunan stops walking and noticed that Anne was ashamed of herself.
"I never should have steal the box." Anne mumbled.
"Huh? What are you talking about?" Yunan puzzled.
"It was my own fault. I was supposed to be home with my family. My parents. If it weren't for Sasha, I would never be stranded here in the first place." said Anne while rubbing her arms.
"Don't beat yourself up, kiddo. I highly doubt that your friends were responsible for this." replied Yunan.
"No, Marcy wants nothing to do this. She is very smart and has autism. But for Sasha, she was like she's in charge of everything and telling people what to do. She was like that since her parents went divorce." Anne explains about her friends.
"Oh, guess I take it back then." Yunan felt regretted.
"Anne, none of this is your fault. Thief or no thief. You are very wise and kindness towards our people." said Olivia.
"Then how am I suppose to explain all of this to my parents? What if they'll mad at me or noticed that I've been gone so long? " Anne asked.
"There is nothing to be afraid, Master Anne. Your parents will always be there in your heart. No matter what." replied Olivia when laid her hand on Anne's chest where her heart is as the girl smiles.
"Thanks, Olivia."
"As always. Now, let us begin our lesson."
"I have plenty to teach Anne. For example, I was planning on taking her to learn how to disembowel a giant beast from the inside" Yunan suggested.
"You will do no such thing!" Olivia hold tightly and protectively on Anne.
"Hey, um... can you teach me how to sword fight?" Anne asked while changing the subject.
"Of course!" Yunan smiles.
"Really?"
"Yes, if you wanted to look for your friends, then I'll have to teach you how to fend yourself."
"Are you sure about this?" Olivia asked when concerns.
"Hey, I never make a good team, but we make a great team!" replied Yunan before turning her head at Anne. "What do you say, kiddo? Are you in?"
Anne hasn't thought about learning to do sword fighting since she has taken down some pirates with the help the general. She may have learn Muay Thai, but if Yunan can teach her how to fight, then she'll become stronger like no one can dare to face the only human in Newtopia. She forms her smile at her new partner.
"I'm in."
