Zombie Army 4: Ultimate Dead War

Chapter 1: Reporting In-Part 1 (Part one of Dead Ahead)

Date: Unknown Date, sometime in 1946

Location: Milan, Italy

Time: Dusk

Kill Squad: 78

Milan, Italy, 1946. Once a city known for its architecture, food, and artistic beauty, it's now a dead zone infested with hordes of undead numbering in the thousands. A resistance stronghold has been established in the former Milano Centrale railway station. There, the resistance coordinates supply raids, salvage operations, and many other operations in the Milan area for a while. But now, the Milan base is on lockdown. All units have been called to retreat to the city of Paris, France, which stands as the impenetrable headquarters of all Resistance activity. Kill Squad 78 is now making its way back to the station before going to Paris.

OST: Zombie Army Trilogy OST - Village of the Dead

An army truck drove through the deserted streets of Milan, running over zombies occasionally. The truck's windows and tailgate were wrapped with barbed wire to ward off any undead who wanted to climb on it and studded with makeshift armor made of wood and corrugated metal to protect the passengers. After a while, it stopped a few hundred yards short of its destination, Milano Centrale railway station. After it stopped, a figure opened the driver's door, got out, and closed it. That figure was Makoto Naegi. A former 101st Airborne member, he was one of the original four survivors that threw Hitler into hell, using his M2 Carbine to destroy the Sagarmatha Relic and seal the Hellmouth. As they fled the collapsing compound, he stayed behind to cover his squad's retreat, gunning down zombies as they fled. When he ran out of ammo, he drew his stiletto and stabbed and slashed at zombies as the compound collapsed around him. Presumed K.I.A by the resistance, he appeared on top of the ruins of Milan Cathedral, picking off a horde of zombies and saving a squad of outnumbered resistance members.

Another figure opened the front passenger door, got out, and closed it. He had blonde hair, blue piercing eyes, wore glasses, and wore the same 101st Airborne uniform as Makoto. He was the second member of the volunteer squad that sealed away Hitler, Byakuya Togami. After the destruction of Hitler's compound, he led operations to build strongholds and safehouses in zombie-infested cities and villages. Now he was back with his old squadmate Makoto.

"Is this the location, Naegi?" spoke Byakuya. "It looks pretty dark out here..."

"Yes it is, Togami," spoke Makoto. "Tell the rest of the squad to get out of the truck. I need to use Chihiro's radio for something."

"Will do, Makoto," spoke Byakuya. He then walked to the sides of the truck and started walking around hitting the sides of the truck with his hand.

"Everybody, out!" he shouted, "We're going on foot!"

After he said that, Makoto ran to the rear, unhitched the tailgate, then ran back to the front. After he did that, the fourteen other members of Kill Squad 78 got out of the back of the truck. The platoon was composed of some of the resistance's best zombie hunters, most of them being former US Army Airborne or OSS members. An exception to this was Mondo Owada, who used to be part of the US Army's 2nd Armor Division.

"Naegi, why did we stop short of the station?" spoke Kyoko Kirigiri, one of the ex-OSS members. "We could've just driven up to it."

"I tried to drive up to there, Kirigiri," spoke Makoto, "But the entrance gate for vehicles wouldn't budge. Enoshima, Ogami, and Iksuaba tried to make it budge, but no luck. The gate's locked from both sides."

"On top of that," spoke Chihiro Fujisaki, a former member of the 82nd Airborne and fellow survivor, "I tried to communicate with the base using my radio, but there's no response from Bruno."

"Well, let me try," a new voice spoke.

The four survivors turned to see another former 82nd Airborne member and another survivor, Kiyotaka Ishimaru. His red eyes and huge black eyebrows contrasted horribly with his olive-green 82nd Airborne uniform. "Did you two say that you couldn't communicate with the Milan base?"

"Well yes," another voice spoke. "But, do you want to hear my predictions for twenty bucks?"

The now five survivors turned to their left to see the stoned face of Yasuhiro Hagakure, another former 101st Airborne member and wannabe clairvoyant.

"Oh my fucking god..." grumbled Chihiro. He then yelled angrily, "Hagakure! We get it, you stoned bastard! Stop talking about your ability to see into the future!"

"Fujisaki!" yelled Kiyotaka sternly, "Stop yelling! You're going to attract the horde to our position!"

"They're not a fucking horde, bro!" a new voice yelled angrily at Kiyotaka. "They're just mindless husks that just wander around!"

He then turned to see Mondo Owada staring at him with a scowl on his face. "What the hell are you yelling at him for?!"

"I wasn't yelling at him!" screamed Kiyotaka. "I was trying to give him common sense!"

"What the fucking hell was that?!" yelled Mondo, "You were just yelling at the crossdressing little dude like he did something wrong!"

"As I said before, I DID NOT!" yelled Kiyotaka.

"Knock it off, you two!" yelled Leon Kuwata, another former 82nd Airborne member, "Why are you trying to abuse the little guy?"

"He started it!" both Mondo and Kiyotaka pointed at Chihiro.

"No, I didn't!" yelled Chihiro, "Hagakure told me first, then I snapped back at his motherfucking skin!"

"Are those fighting words, you midget?!" yelled Hagakure angrily. "Are those fighting words, you fucker?!"

"Yeah they were, you stoned jackass!" yelled Fujisaki.

"Guys! Stop this!" a new voice shouted in anguish. The four offenders turned to face Hifumi Yamada, another former 82nd Airborne member. "This isn't how we talk to each other!"

After staring at him for half a minute, the four of them just went back to insulting each other.

"You wanna fight an All-American soldier, you piece of shit?!" yelled Chihiro angrily.

"I'm a Screaming Eagle, kid!" yelled Yasuhiro. "You know that we're the best paratrooper unit!"

"Don't mess with Hell on Wheels, you cocksuckers!" yelled Mondo.

"Listen here you little eagle, you have crossed the line!" yelled Kiyotaka.

Now, the four former soldiers were yelling at each other. Makoto, Leon, Hifumi, and Byakuya looked on helplessly as their four squadmates tore into each other with their words like a bunch of hungry dogs seeing food for the first time.

"That's it," spoke Kyoko, who was starting to be bored, "I'm going to talk with the girls."

Kyoko then walked back to the left side of the truck. Standing there with their backs against the truck's side, stood the final seven members of Kill Squad 78. All of them were former OSS operatives, and all of them were girls.

"What's going on back there?" spoke a concerned Junko Enoshima, "Why are those four bastards fighting each other like they're enemies or something?"

"Well Junko," spoke Kyoko with the same level of concern, "Hagakure started this argument by bragging about his fortune-telling skills in front of Fujisaki's face."

"That's a volatile situation you're looking at there, Kyoko," spoke Celeste Ludenberg, also with concern. "I don't understand, but whenever there's an argument, those four are always involved."

"Celeste, every single time I see those four punks go at each other, I get nervous and scared at the same time." Sayaka Maizono nervously spoke, "I wouldn't be surprised if they were the first victims of a zombie attack on our squad."

"I agree with you, Sayaka," Aoi Asahina spoke reluctantly, "If those guys get in trouble and if we save them, they'll just get into more trouble than before and the cycle repeats anew."

"Yes Hina, and after all the stuff that we've endured up until this point, I thought those four would start helping each other," spoke a nervous Mukuro Ikusaba, "But no, they just start fighting each other as if they were enemies."

"I tried to tell them to stop fighting before, you know?" spoke Sakura Ogami reluctantly, "But for some odd unknown reason, they just won't get along with each other."

"M-Me too, Ogami," Toko Fukawa spoke nervously, "y-you know all eight of us told each of them personally to stop fighting each other, right?"

"I remember that time like it was yesterday, Toko," spoke Junko. "But as Sakura said previously, they just won't stop fighting each other."

"I agree with you on that, Sakura. No matter how much you separate them," spoke Mukuro, "no matter how many of us tell them to stop fighting, those four troublemakers always find a way to fight each other."

"I don't get it with those four," spoke Sayaka, "It's as if when those four are in the same room together, something's always bound to go wrong, and in this case, it went wrong."

"Anyways," spoke Kyoko as she took out her rifle, "you girls want to take potshots at the large horde of husks down the street?"

"Why wouldn't I?" spoke Toko.

"I agree," spoke Junko as she took hers out, "This is better than watching those four bozos go at each other's throats."

"I'm coming, girls," spoke Sayaka, "If I could use a live human as zombie bait, it would be those four jerks that we were talking about."

"Really?" spoke Mukuro as she took her rifle out, "What would you do?"

"I'd tape cuts of raw meat to each of them and tell them to run around in an infested area," spoke Sayaka, "That'll be more effective than just using regular zombie bait."

"I agree with you," spoke Toko as she took out her rifle, "but for the resistance, every survivor that joins is essential, so just using them as bait is wasteful, in my eyes."

"Yep," spoke Sayaka as she unholstered hers as well, "I agree. But it would also be a good way to deal with those goofballs."

"I'd make them survive an entire month without the rest of us," spoke Sakura as she unholstered her sniper rifle, "Maybe that will help build their trust in each other."

"Besides," spoke Aoi as she unholstered her rifle. "the resistance doesn't have the manpower to do something like that."

"I agree with Sakura," spoke Celeste as she took out her rifle, "I think that's the only way those four troublemakers will start trusting each other."

The eight girls then stepped out from behind the stopped truck with their rifles in their hands and made their way toward the two sandbag walls erected in front of the truck.

"Where are you girls going?" spoke Makoto, who was temporarily distracted from the scuffle that was taking place before his eyes.

"We're going to take shots at the horde down the street," spoke Junko, "It's better than joining you guys in watching this scuffle."

"I know, Junko," spoke Makoto, "I'd like to join you girls, but I'm too busy trying to resolve the shitshow that's happening right in front of me."

When he turned back to face the four, Makoto was shocked to find that the current situation had devolved into a full-on fight involving Chihiro, Yasuhiro, Mondo, and Kiyotaka. The four were now punching each other, kicking each other, and nearly got close to shooting each other had he and Byakuya not interfered.

"You four!" shouted Leon. "Stop this! If we keep doing this, we're gonna get our asses killed!"

"Leon's right, you idiots!" shrieked Hifumi in terror, "Stop this, please! PLEASE!"

But this acted as reverse psychology, as this caused the four offenders to fight even more.

"I can't believe I have to do this again," Byakuya sighed with concern. He reached behind his back and pulled out his secondary firearm, a modified JP Sauer M30 Drilling shotgun. He loaded a blank shell into one of the barrels, pointed the gun straight up, and fired.

CLICK-BOOM*

The four offenders stopped at the sound of the blast and faced the other four former soldiers terrified. Makoto, Byakuya, and Leon were angry at them, while Hifumi stood behind the other three looking just as terrified as the four offenders.

"What the fuck is wrong with you four?!" Leon yelled sternly, "I cannot believe what the hell am I seeing in front of me!"

"We're sorry, Mr. Kuwata, sir!" the four offenders pleaded, "We won't fight each other again!"

"You better behave yourselves, little kids," Makoto spoke with a stern voice, "or I'm going to shoot all four of you with my Thompson SMG. You four scoundrels hear me?"

"We hear you, sir!" the four former soldiers spoke in terror, "We don't want to die!"

(Meanwhile, with the girls)

The eight girls were shooting zombies from the safety of both crouching behind the sandbag walls and the fact that they were hundreds of yards away from the horde down the street. Sniping zombies from afar became their favorite way of venting out their frustrations, anger, and stress without having to take it out on their fellow squadmates. As they were beheading the zombies with headshots, all eight of them thought that they had heard something.

"Hey," spoke Sayaka as she was loading her modified Springfield M1D Garand, "did you girls hear some weird noises or something?"

"No," spoke Junko as she was loading her modified M1903 Springfield, "I can't hear anything over the sound of our rifles firing."

"What are you talking about, Sayaka?" spoke Mukuro as she was loading her modified Lee Enfield Number Four, "I didn't hear anything in particular, just the wind."

"I don't remember hearing anything as well," spoke Sakura as she fired her modified PTRS-41, "What do you mean?"

"I thought I heard a shotgun blast or something," spoke Aoi as she was loading her modified Mosin Nagant M1891/30, "but I didn't hear any sort of argument."

"You sure?" spoke Kyoko as she rechambered a bullet from her modified M1903 Springfield, "Because I thought I heard some people talking..."

"I think the wind's playing tricks with your ears, Kyoko," Celeste spoke as she fired her modified Kar98k, "I didn't hear any voices."

"M-me too," Toko spoke as she switched magazines on her modified M1 Carbine, "I-I don't hear any voices, j-just the wind in my ears."

(Meanwhile, back with the boys)

OST: Zombie Army 4: Dead War OST: Blood Flow

"I swear to god if you four ruffians fight again," grumbled Makoto, "I don't know what the hell I'm going do to all of you, but it's not going to be good for y'all."

"We're sorry Mr. Naegi, sir!" the four offenders begged Makoto, "Please don't kill us!"

"If you four troublemakers want to survive this apocalypse," Makoto spoke, "trust me, trust the other people here, and most importantly of all, trust each other. You hear me?"

"Yes sir," the four offenders nervously responded, "we hear you, Mr. Naegi."

"Good." spoke Makoto, "Chihiro, can I use your radio for a bit? I need to know how Bruno and the Milan base are doing."

"Well Makoto," spoke Chihiro, "Yasuhiro and I left our radios in the truck during the fight."

"Can you and Hagakure get them?" spoke Makoto, "We need them to contact the Milan base and Bruno."

"We'll get them, Makoto," spoke Yasuhiro, "hold tight, dude."

The two radio operators ran back to the parked truck and grabbed two SCR-300 carryable radios from the cargo/troop transport area and put them on.

"Do they still work?" spoke Leon. "I'd hate it if we're stuck in the middle of an infested city with no outside connection or a working radio."

"W-Well, mine still works," spoke Chihiro, "but Hagakure's doesn't."

"Thank god," spoke Leon, "I thought that we aren't going to get out of this hellhole alive."

"Mine got damaged in a zombie attack outside the city," spoke Yasuhiro, "I can't get it to work even though it looks like all the components are in working order. Heck, I even field-cleaned it and reassembled it but it still doesn't work."

"Yasuhiro," spoke Leon. "you have to take your radio to the base's workshop. I know for a fact that they can fix it."

"I tried it last time, Leon," Hagakure Responded, "It didn't work. It just made the problems even worse. I can't even turn it on as it bursts into flames."

"Edie and I can try to fix it," Chihiro chirped in, "both of us are very experienced in working with radios."

"Thank god you know how to fix radios, Chihiro," spoke Mondo, "my SCR-536 is starting to seize up from constant use."

"I know your concerns, people," Byakuya spoke, "but this is essential if we are to survive this. Chihiro, tune your radio to the frequency of the Milan Base."

"On it, Togami," Chihiro responded. He crouched down and started to turn the knobs and dials of his carryable radio until he had the radio frequency of the Milan Base, 1666 AM.

"Makoto." Chihiro called, "Make your call." He then picked up the handset from its stand and handed it to Makoto, who was also crouching down beside him.

"Milan Base," radioed Makoto, "this is Makoto Naegi of Kill Squad 78. Please report in, over." But there was no response from the radio, only radio static.

"Try Again, Makoto," spoke Leon, "Maybe there isn't anybody using the radio."

"Repeat, Milan Base," radioed Makoto, "this is Makoto Naegi of Kill Squad 78. Please report in, over." But yet again, there was no response from the radio, only radio static.

"Crap," Yasuhiro Spoke, "The Milan base has gone dark."

"How the hell do we know, Mr. Fortune Teller?" Chihiro spoke, "If you looked at the base from outside, it doesn't look like it's been breached. Additionally, the lights are still on, so that's a good sign."

"But what's causing the radio interference then?" Taka spoke, "It couldn't be a breach, can it?"

"Well, we have no choice then," Leon spoke, "we have to go investigate the base. Maybe the radio's not occupied or all of the base's occupants have been eaten alive by the undead."

"Oh, lord no," Hifumi whimpered. "Oh god please, lord no. I don't like this at all."

"Hifumi, what's wrong?" Makoto spoke, "You good?"

"I'm fine," Hifumi responded with a whimper, "I just hate it when we have to go investigate something."

"Get some rest, Hifumi," Byakuya spoke, "Makoto, Leon, Chihiro, and I will investigate. If the area's clear of zombies, we'll signal for the rest of the team to come with us."

"I sure hope so, Togami," Kiyotaka spoke, "If you four die, I don't know how the hell we're going to get out of this place."

And that's a wrap for the first chapter of Zombie Army 4: Ultimate Dead War. I created this fanfic as a bridge between two unrelated franchises, one where you find and convict the killer using evidence from the murder scene, and one where you are an OSS sniper that kills Nazis in many different ways. I hope you guys enjoy it!
