—-

Sinha lay awake at Monk Miroku's home. Ears listening for any sign of Inuyasha's return. Unable to sleep, she quickly dressed and left to find her chosen mate.

Her limbs grew stiff as she approached the sacred tree, she knew Inuyasha was close- he always seemed to come here to think.

A part of her hated that he was drawn back to this area. The adolescent child in her focusing on her jealousy.

She had never known Kikyo, but She knew she could never replace her, (not that she wanted to) and Kagome… she winced wondering again if her previous actions ruined any potential for a friendship.

She imagined, based on what she knew from Inuyasha, that Kagome would forgive her.

It's not really fair that I know so much about her, and yet, she knows nothing of me. she thought to herself as she continued to scent for Inuyasha.

Kagome and Kikyo were the women who made Inuyasha who he is.

The image of the priestess popped into the kitsune's brain, causing a spark of jealousy.

The girl was just so damn pretty. It really wasn't a stretch that she came from another world.

After some time- the bone eaters well came into focus.

Her nose tingled as his scent wrapped around her fangs and she inhaled greedily.

She blushed, embarrassed at the instincts within her.

Her eyes focused on a single indent in the grass, as if her eyes could see his scent on the wet blades.

She stepped closer and suddenly she noticed a citrus-y smell inch through her senses. The soft smell scratched at her demonic senses, signaling it was Kagome's purified aura wrapped into his.

Though now that she focused, she could see that her scent was all over the area, meaning she had been the first to arrive here.

She rolled her eyes at the thought of the two here together. Both are always drawn back here.

She touched the wooden lip of the dry well and peered over the edge. She stared into the bottom, not knowing what she was expecting to see, but looking anyway.

All she saw was dirt and leaves with scattered remains at the bottom.

"Was this really the way she would travel through time?" she asked herself for the hundredth time since learning about it from Inuyasha.

Sinha often thought about the ability to control time, or even travel through it.

The person she would visit if she could…. Her heart clenched slightly at the thought.

Kagome came from this well. It's no wonder the two of them ended up here tonight.

They are both drawn here… or at least, tied together…by the Kami…fate…or… something… she shrugged at the thought.

Moving from the well she continued to follow Inuyasha's scent, a tad slower this time to allow the two friends some privacy until she caught up. He was safe and she knew she was on track to finding him, so her inner fox only paced slightly as she walked.

"Inuyasha, I think you should go…" Kagome spoke softly.

She adjusted her weapon along her shoulder.

"We can't be alone together it seems. There is a lot we don't understand-" she continued.

Inuyasha rubbed the back of his neck- nodding in acceptance.

"Yea….I think you're right. "

Kagome turned to walk away.

"But!" He cried out. Kagome flinched as the dreaded word sent a chill down her spine.

A pit of despair filled her chest as memories flooded her brain in the half second of emptiness before he finished speaking.

"Kagome- I can't lose you…." The words came firmly from Inuyasha's mouth, instantly clearing the chill that had invaded her body.

"Please…. I care about you, and… having you as a friend. You're still the only person I consider…."

He stopped, not having words to describe what she meant to him.

"I mean I- I waited so long to see you again. And I don't want to lose you by choosing Sinha but-"

Kagome stayed where she was and looked at her former would-be lover.

"Don't push me away for choosing Kouga-" she countered unexpectedly.

Inuyasha blanched- his demon growling in anger.

"And I promise not to push you away for choosing Sinha" she continued.

A trill of relief goes through him, calming the anger in his chest, shaking away the pent up growl that had formed.

Inuyasha thought about Sinha, the woman he truly loved.

"We need to figure this out- why we seem to be….. headed down this path…against our better judgment…"

He finished thinking about the hated kiss they shared moments ago.

The wind blew between them and Inuyasha jerked his head up, a heady scent filling his nose.

Kagome noticed that he looked past her into the trees and his gold eyes hardened.

"You should get going." he nodded towards the mountain entrance.

Kagome nodded, glancing over his shoulder and nodding at someone behind him.

He knew before he turned that it was Sinha, her scent covering his senses and a pull greater than the one he felt moments ago filled his chest.

He turned quickly- closing the distance and scooping the kitsune up within a half second.

She laughed as he held her up and then crushed her to him. He kissed her deeply, Sinha struggling against him, embarrassed at the affection between them in front of Kagome.

She pushed him away and turned to look at the priestess, only to see she had already turned and left.

"Inuyasha…." she breathed him in deeply.

"I couldn't wait any longer….I started to get all antsy without you." her soft words enhancing the contentment within the silver haired demon.

He leaned down and touched her forehead to his.

"There's a lot to discuss…. Let's head back…" he spoke.

"But what about Kagome? Shouldn't we make sure she gets back safe?" Sinha looked back where the girl had walked off.

Inuyasha pursed his lips.

"Keh- she'll be fine. She won't be alone for too long." he commented gruffly as he pulled Sinha in the opposite direction.

Sinha looked back once more and then allowed herself to be pulled away, wondering if she would ever get a chance to actually TALK to Kagome.

Kouga was pulsing with anger at what he witnessed.

Kagome and Inuyasha…. melded together, touching, and… he shut his eyes against the image.

He had turned away so angry that he had almost lashed out without pause.

But he held himself back somehow, his chest stinging from the betrayal. He was going to rip into Inuyasha, but Kagome… she had allowed it to happen.

His chest tightened as he covered his face with a clawed hand, wet droplets forming at the corners of his eyes. He just couldn't believe it.

He had only stood there for so long due to shock and anger, but thank the kami he had, because he accidentally picked up on the conversation the two had after the unsightly endeavor.

He turned and watched as Kagome chose him, causing the pain in his chest to lighten just a bit, his anger and hurt still throbbing as he listened.

"Don't push me away for choosing Kouga." she said.

He turned then, heading back towards his home, needing to walk before he encountered the priestess.

If only I had stayed with Hakkaku.

He clenched his fist as he stopped walking. His anger at the whole situation growing like a wildfire.

When Kouga had left Kagome, he couldn't get her expression out of his mind, worry filled him to the point that he knew he would be useless to lead the charge.

He had entrusted Hakkaku to fulfill this duty about halfway there so he could head back and care for his mate.

Only to find out she wasn't at the dens. That she had never made it inside.

His worry, now turned to anger and hurt at what had ensued while he was away for but a moment. All of the time he had spent with Kagome these past few days, all the… moments they had shared. Yet there she was, wrapping herself around him just because he gave her the time of day!

His claws grew and dug into his palms, he clenched his teeth and let out a fierce growl.

He had been standing downwind, so he knew the Mutt had no idea they were being watched.

Until the wind shifted. He knew then and sent Kagome on her way.

You're just as big of a fool as ever. He berated himself.

"Kouga!" his eyes opened as he realized he had failed to distance himself from the area.

Dammit! Why did I quit walking! He cursed himself.

He could hear her approach but he didn't turn to face her.

She stood beside him, curious- but reached out.

"Is everything alright?" she asked, close to making contact.

He moved out of her reach, appearing feet away so fast she thought maybe she had imagined him so close.

"Am I a joke to you?" he snarled.

The tone he released caused Kagome's breath to catch in her throat.

Her heart stopped for a moment as she felt energy like sandpaper slide over her skin.

"Kouga…I… what's going on?" she asked. Wondering if he was in this area longer than she knew about.

"I saw you and…and.."

Crap, Yup…. she clenched her eyes shut, dropping her head.

She began to shake her head side to side.

"No Kouga I'm so sorry, please, I don't want him, I-"

He cut her off.

"Oh it looked like you wanted him alright. I saw how you- you…and he. It's disgusting! You think I WANTED to see that!? The girl I've been in love with for YEARS, dry fucking a mutt who doesn't even WANT her!?"

Kouga was angry, he couldn't stop the words spilling from his mouth.

Her eyes popped open at his words. Her mouth going dry, never imagining he could ever yell at her like this.

"Kouga, please…" she managed to whisper.

"I- I only want you. Please understand what happened back there, it wasn't intended. Please know that I am going to figure out a way to-"

"I find it hard to believe you didn't "intend" for it to happen. You didn't even go back to the dens like I asked. I ASKED YOU NOT TO LEAVE! I ASKED YOU. And what did you do as soon as I left? You ran back to that damn fool."

"Ha, I call him the fool and yet here I stand. I told you Kagome, that you needed to be sure that you wanted to be with me. I ASKED YOU, I tried to make sure, I told you I couldn't give you up if we went too far."

"Kouga! I meant it! How could you sa-"

He shook his head, not wanting to hear another word from her.

"Look Kagome, I get that you've been played with by Inuyasha, but I will not take the same treatment from you." he glared at her.

Her words died on her lips, shocked at the turn of events within minutes.

Everything was changing so fast her head was spinning, the ground seemed to wobble beneath her.

She stepped back, until she felt a tree behind her and used it to steady herself. Her bow sliding to the ground.

She looked into his eyes as she shook her head in disbelief.

"No… Kouga, I couldn't, I would never…. Please let me explain."

He turned, facing away from her once more, his tail slashing the air as his anger continued to radiate.

"Kouga please, I know it sounds crazy but, Kikyo is still here, and her spirit is making things difficult. I couldn't get my body to respond, and next thing I knew, we were kissing and all these emotions were there, and…." she stopped, realizing he wasn't in a mood to listen.

She could feel he was ready to bolt. Her shoulders slumped. He turned to look over his shoulder at her.

His blue eyes radiated the emotions he was feeling. He turned away again, taking a step towards the dark trees.

Suddenly Kagome rushed forward closing the distance between them, grabbing onto her wolf with all the strength she could muster into her arms.

She wrapped her arms around him, burying her face in his back.

"Kouga please don't leave me!" she cried out, tears pooling as she held onto him.

"Please, listen to me, I love you. And I won't have anything if I lose you, I meant everything I've told you, I choose you. It's always been you."

Flashes of their time together ran through her mind, from the recent days to the days past when he would tornado into her life or save her from danger.

"I told Inuyasha and I will tell you, I don't know what's going on, but I will figure it out. I want to be with you, without any of this dumb stuff getting in the way. I hate it! "

He continued to stand there, listening to her proclamation.

Her touch soothing the anger that was coursing through him.

But her touch did little to alleviate the hurt he was feeling.

The betrayal.

His pride was wounded after watching the pair.

He looked to the night sky, needing guidance.

His years as Clan leader never prepared him for this.

For these emotions that only she seemed to pull from him.

Kami help me…
