North Stars

Chapter 16

The next morning when his family got there, Mike was sitting up in the chair in his hospital room. Both girls fussed over him before going to the vending machine, giving him and Christine a bit of time.

"How are you feeling, sitting up?" Christine asked.

"Tired. Sandy wanted me to sit here for two hours. I'm on hour one." Mike said.

"Do you want a copy of the ultrasound photo? I brought one in case you did." Christine asked.

"Sure. Can you put it there?" Mike asked, pointing at his hospital table.

"Absolutely." Christine answered with a smile. She sat the photo on the table and then kissed the top of Mike's head. "Did you sleep better?" Christine asked.

"Yeah. No bad dreams. I actually dreamed about the baby." Mike said.

"Oh?" Christine said.

"Yeah. It was his first Christmas and he was fascinated by the lights and wrapping paper. He didn't care about his presents. Just the paper and boxes." Mike said with a smile.

"Lucas was like that too." Christine remarked.

"Yeah, but this baby was not Lucas. It was our house now and the baby resembled you more than Lucas did at that age." Mike said.

"Good. I am glad that you had a good dream." Christine said.

"At first; I thought it was a dream about Lucas but then I realized it was our current house and that the baby looked nothing like Lucas. And he was the wrong age. This baby is due in April right? Lucas was born in September and was only a few months old at Christmas. This baby was older and was already crawling." Mike answered.

"What was his name?" Christine asked.

"Joshua Samuel was what was on his stocking, but I think that's only because I like that name. You might have had another choice." Mike said.

"I hadn't picked one out. Was hoping you would help me. I really like Joshua Samuel." Christine said.

"Its my vote but don't feel pressured. I don't have much of a vote considering everything." Mike remarked.

"In your dream, were you playing with the baby?" Christine asked.

"Yeah. I was tickling him and making him laugh by throwing him up in the air." Mike said.

"Sounds like you were enjoying him." Christine remarked.

"I was." Mike said.

"Then you have a vote. Mike, I had no doubt that you would come around eventually." Christine said before giving him a long kiss. With his good hand, he reached down and patted her belly.

"I can't wait to be home so I can do that whenever I want." Mike remarked.

"Me either." Christine answered just as the girls came in, interrupting their happy moment.
