Chapter 17
Mike was less than thrilled that his heavily pregnant wife had to help him to their bedroom but he was thrilled to be out of the hospital. Christine helped him change into his pajamas and then helped him into bed. As soon as he hit the cool sheets, he let out a sigh.
"Are you warm enough?" Christine asked.
"It feels good. I'm okay." Mike answered. Christine tucked the blankets around him and he smiled at the bassinet in the corner of the bedroom. "I want to put his crib together when I can." Mike said.
"I've bought it but its still in the box waiting on you. Just don't be in a hurry. I have two months left before he's due and he'll be in the bassinet for a bit." Christine answered.
"The pregnancy has gone by so fast." Mike remarked.
"You have been a bit busy recovering. I got soup out today. Some of what Tom and Sasha brought. Would you like that for lunch?" Christine asked.
"Did Tom cook it?" Mike asked and Christine laughed.
"Sasha." Christine answered.
"Then I'll eat it." Mike said. Christine bent down and gave him a kiss.
"It will take me a bit to heat it up. Take a nap if you'd like. The girls are chomping at the bit to visit with you but I'll hold them off until you've rested a bit. I know that trip home was rough." Christine said.
"Are you still as tired?" Mike asked.
"I am a bit. This pregnancy has been easy other than being so tired." Christine remarked.
"Will you take your nap in here with me?" Mike asked. He had missed sleeping next to Christine.
"Of course." Christine answered. She gave him another kiss and then headed to the kitchen to reheat his lunch. Mike was just dozing off when she came back in with his lunch. She helped him begin eating and then ate her own bowl of soup. He could tell she was tired and so when Katie appeared to take their dishes he suggested she change into her pajamas and sleep for a couple hours. Within just a short amount of time, she settled next to him and he put a hand on her belly.
"Now that I'm home, I want you to just relax and enjoy the rest of this pregnancy. We've not discussed it but I'm sure this is probably the last one and I want you to enjoy it as much as you can." Mike said.
"It is the last one. I am just glad I get to enjoy it with you." Christine said before giving him a long kiss.
"It took me long enough to start enjoying it." Mike remarked.
"I think once he is born, you'll surprise even yourself." Christine said after yawning sleepily.
"Get some rest." Mike said. He kissed the top of her head and smiled down at her. Within just a few moments, she was asleep and he quickly followed her, just thrilled to be home again. He was getting a second chance with his wife and kids. Something he didn't necessarily deserve but would do his best to deserve.
