Hello. Before starting, I just wanted to let you know that I've altered Tom's age. At the moment he is nine.
The Case of Magical Creatures
Tom fell down a wooden ladder and he felt his stomach, head and face slam against a wooden surface. He cringed in pain as his head ached painfully. He pushed himself up slowly.
"Where am I?" he wondered. He peeped around the room. It looked like he was inside a shed with potions and tools. He looked up the ladder and saw the closed door. He climbed up. He tried to push it open. It wouldn't budge.
"Hey!" he banged his fist against the door. "Let me out! Let me out!"
There was no answer. He sighed. He was seriously going to get into trouble if he didn't come back soon. He tried again but he sighed. The suitcase door was not going to be opening up any time soon. It was no use.
He stepped down the ladder steps and wondered what to do next. He felt curious but knew that it would be wrong to snoop around another wizard's property. His eyes suddenly spotted a door. He decided to go through. It wouldn't hurt. He couldn't sit in that shed forever until the case was opened again.
He went over to the black doorknob and turned it. He pushed it slowly. The moment it was open, he was met with the most remarkable sight. He saw creatures everywhere in exhibits. But they were not normal creatures. He could see dodo-like creatures vanishing and then appearing in pops of flashes. He saw sea devil-like creatures with tentacles floating around in bubbles. He saw a pink parrot-like creature with long thin pummel features and an ash black beak. But what caught his attention was the sight of a magnificent gold and silver eagle-like creature with four giant wings and two very thin tails with golden feathers. It was the most incredible thing he had ever seen. The owner of this case was a wizard. So, all those creatures he was looking at were magical creatures.
He decided to look around a bit more. But to be cautious he kept his distance. There was no telling what these creatures would do if they were startled to see a strange. He walked down some nearby stairs and he noticed a round nest with golden coins all over. The same creature whom he had seen robbing the vault was oozing around its treasures. He came over to another exhibition and he saw tree-like creatures like the one whom he had returned to Newt Scamander, the one called Picket. He then saw another nest, flat and round and it was full of snake-like creatures turquoise and purple with beaks and little wings; they looked so cute.
It wouldn't hurt to say 'hello'. Tom tiptoed over and approached them carefully. "Hello,"
The squeaking babies noticed him and glanced at him strangely. He reached over to pet one but it snapped at him. He pulled his hand back. "Oh my," he stood back a bit. "Maybe this was a bad idea,"
He decided it was best to try and get out. He didn't want to startle these magical animals. He just wanted to get out o this magic case and get back to his brother.
He went back inside the shed and over to the ladder. Looking up, he saw it was still closed. Before he could step up the ladder…he suddenly heard screeching. He turned to see a pink guinea pig-like creature with tentacles poking out of its back and running towards him. He gasped and he fell to the floor with a thump. He feared it would come to bite him with his front teeth but instead it climbed up the ladders and started banging against the door.
"Open it!" Tom cried out. "Please open it!"
Looking up from his position, he saw the ceiling door open. The creature sprang out to freedom. Tom was about to get up when he heard a loud grumble from outside the open door. He looked and saw a rhinoceros creature charging towards the shed. Quickly he pulled his legs back and pressed his back against the wall, bracing his head. But he heard crashing and he saw the creature leaping up through the open door above. The next thing he saw was a swinging monkey-like creature with long white hair swinging off into the shed turning invisible. It climbed up and out. Then a blue fly-like creature with wings on its head flew out. Nothing else came out to escape.
Tom tried to climb up and escape but the door closed again. He banged helplessly. "Let me out! Let me out!" But he was trapped again. "Dang it!" he punched the door in anger. The escaping creatures had blown his chance to escape again. Had Newt Scamander trapped him inside on purpose?
He walked through the slightly damaged shed and outside. He saw a habitat destroyed but nothing had been really damaged. The creatures did look a little started though. Tom sat down on the stairs outside the shed and waited patiently for something to happen. The hours felt like forever. Nothing happened. He worried for Credence and whatever their abusive caretaker might be putting him through. Thinking of Mary Lou again made him dread what punishment she would give him.
To be stuck in the cellars was bad enough but nothing was more painful than being flogged by that woman like an animal. What in the world has any of us ever done to deserve this?
He began to cry a bit. He thought of his beloved parents. Though they died when he was six, he remembered what they looked like. His father looked just like him with dark eyes. His mother had short wavy hair with blue eyes, the exact same colour as his. And he remembered them as the best wizard parents he could ever have. He pulled his silver pendant and gazed at it. This was the last thing they had given to him before they died.
Whatever the shapes represented, it meant something which his parents' killer had been so interested in.
Tom traced the silver material. But he felt something soft and slippery touch his fingers. He looked up and saw a hump-backed animal the size of a foal with extremely thick skin and two large horns on his head. His tentacles dangled from the bottom of his mouthless face and it stood on four lumped feet and had a long tail almost like a dinosaur's.
"Hello there," Tom reached forward to stroke it. The beast allowed it to touch its face and it purred as its tentacles sucked on Tom's fingers. "That tickles," he giggled. To Tom's surprise, the tentacles pulled on his hand. It wanted him to follow him. "Okay,"
Tom allowed the little creature to lead away to a large sandy plainland a little further away from the other habitats. How big is this suitcase? Tom wondered. Tom looked ahead and saw two creatures just like the one leading him away; they were much bigger. The one who was leading him away was a baby. He looked a little nervous. He feared the parents might harm him. But as they approached him, he saw that they weren't violent. They could see that he was friendly and meant no harm.
He reached forward a hand and he felt the biggest one's face, the father, touch his hand. He stroked it softly. "You don't look so mean. You're friendly," he said.
The creature warbled and it licked his face with his tentacles. He was a little grimaced but quite touched by the affection. The mother let Tom stroke her and she was quite friendly too. The gentle nature they were giving him had never been sweeter to Tom than anything in his life. These creatures who were being kind to him were more humane than his mother or anyone he had ever met other than his brother and sister.
They gave him a strange spark of courage. Tom no longer felt afraid to walk around and say 'hello' to all these creatures. For a long while, he stroked and greeted many creatures. Still, he kept his distance from the eagle-like creature and the magic dodo birds; he had a phobia of birds and an allergy to feathers.
The first baby creature who had greeted them kept close to him at all times; it liked him a lot. It had become his first friend. They sat down together on the sand and Tom stared up at the magical night sky; it was enchanting. He knew in his heart that he himself was a wizard but he was yet to develop any magic himself. Perhaps he wouldn't.
The baby had enough of sitting and wanted to walk around. They walked around some nearby forest where again they visited the green tree men figures. They were quite friendly and they loved to shake hands with Tom. "Hello again," he greeted. He gave each one a handshake but when he tried to pull his fingers back, one of them clung to it. "Nice to see you too fella. Think you can let go?"
The figure gave him a pouty look.
I couldn't. Tom didn't want to get into trouble. "Okay. You can ride on my shoulder for a bit. But just for a moment," he lifted the creature onto his shoulder and it settled on. It squeaked happily and it hugged his cheek. "You're welcome,"
Just after he said that he noticed the baby acting a bit strange. "What is it little guy?" he asked. The baby was detecting something. It was gazing at the shed. When he glanced over at the shack, Tom heard voices. Instantly he shot off to some nearby bushes to hide. The baby followed him whilst the tree figure clung to his shoulders with a tight grip.
Keeping extremely quiet, Tom peeked over and two men approach the exhibition of the eagle-like creature. It was them. The wizard and the New York fellow.
