Chapter 2: First Exam(Kilometer run)
The sound of that gets everyone pumped up and ready to go.
"One final caution. If you are short on luck and ability, you could very well end up seriously injured or even dead." The satotz said, "If you accept the risks, then please follow me, otherwise please exit via the elevator behind you."
Nobody leaves, it's decided that they're all taking it.
"Very well, all 404 will participate in phase one." Satotz announces before turning around and doing a weird fast walk and everyone follows him.
"Hear I thought at least a few of them were gonna quit, but I guess not." Happy said as they walked.
"They did come here to take the exam after all, nobody was gonna withdraw." Wendy replied.
All of a sudden, the Satotz weirdly runs fast and everyone else does the same.
"Woah, what the-" Happy trailed as they sudden started running.
"It looks like He picked up the pace now." Wendy figures out as she and Happy started running as well.
"This is the first phase of the exam, I shall lead you to the second phase." Satoz explains, "All you have to do is follow me, I cannot tell you where or when we must arrive."
"So this is an endurance test?" Wendy questioned.
"It looks like he's testing to see if we can keep up with him, "Happy figures out, "If that's the case then-" Happy the brings out his wings and starts flying, "If all we have to do is follow him then It's all right for me to fly."
"That is true." Wendy agrees.
"I could fly you over as well if you want." Happy offers.
"No, it's fine. I'd like to do as much of this as I can on my own." Wendy politely declines.
"Oh, alright then." Happy doesn't mind as he just keeps flying.
Then Wendy and Gon then ran into each other, unintentionally.
"Oh, hi." Gon greets.
"Hello." Wendy greets back.
Happy then comes fly over, "There you are, Wendy." Happy then looks at Gon, "Oh, it's the guys we saw speaking with Tonpa."
"T-talking...c-cat-t...!" Gon, Leorio and Kurapika exclaimed.
"Aye, that's right." Happy grins.
"Yep, he's working with me on this." She says, "Anyway, I'm wendy."
"Happy! Aye." He also introduces.
"I'm Gon" He introduces back.
"Leorio" He introduces.
"Kurapika." He introduces.
"Also... it's cool how a talking cat is able to fly!" Gon beamed, "How are you doing that?"
"By using magic power." Happy replied.
"Magic?" They questioned
"Looks like they don't know what magic is." Wendy tells Happy.
"Aye, that seems to be the case." Happy replied.
"?" They still have confused looks.
"We came from magnolia in fiore, over there, Magic is used commonly by almost everyone," Wendy explains.
"Wow really? never heard of it." Kurapika says.
"Aye, I use it to create wings and fly." Happy explains, "And Wendy here uses sky dragon slayer magic."
"Dragon slayer magic?!" They exclaimed.
"Hold up, does that mean you can slay dragons?" Leorio asked.
Wendy didn't know what to say to that, "Uh... well, that's a long story."
"Oh, alright." Gon understands before looking at Wendy's shoulder, "Oh, and what's that mark on your shoulder?"
"This is a fairy tail guild mark." Wendy replied.
"Fairy tail?" The group questioned.
"It's a wizard guild in magnolia." Happy answered, "Wizards look at certain jobs on the request board and take it in order to earn money."
"Wow... that's actually a useful way to make money." Gon states.
"So can anyone join the guild?" Kurapika asks.
"Yep." Wendy replied.
"The guild is a family and welcomes anybody so it's totally fine to join." Happy adds.
"Man, after acquiring my hunter license, I'll probably think about it." Gon smiles.
"Even though, your not a wizard?" Leorio asks.
"That's why I'll think about." Gon replied.
"I'm sure the guild master wouldn't mind having you join, even if you don't have magic." Wendy assures.
"All right." Gon nods as they continue running.
The two groups then ran together.
4 hours later:
The applicants have traveled over thirty kilometers already. Satotz, the examiner of the first phase, had already begun running faster. The examinees are forced to run at that same pace, however many have fallen by that time.
"I've underestimated the hunter exam." Leorio thought, sweating and exhausted, "Every person here is a monster, it's the gathering of monsters..."
A silver haired boy then passed by on a skateboard.
"Hey, wait you kid!" Leorio shouted in irritation, which he turned around in question, "You should show the hunter exam some respect!"
"What do you mean?" The silver boy asked.
"Why are you using a skateboard?! That's cheating!" Leorio shouts.
"Why?" The boy questioned.
Really mad this time, ""Why...this is an endurance test!" He shouted, this time even louder.
"No, it isn't" Gon intervenes.
"Huh?! Gon, what are you saying?" Leorio asked irritably.
"Yeah, gon's right, the examiner only told us to follow him." Wendy agrees while running next to Gon.
"Wha- who's side are you two on?" Leorio looked back at them dramatically before the silver boy skated back, ignoring leorio's complains.
"Hey, how old are you two?" He asked.
"Twelve." They both said.
"They're the same age." The boy thought before flipping off his skateboard, "Guess, I'll run along with you guys."
"Wow, that was cool!" Gon beamed.
"I'm Killua." He introduced.
"I'm Gon, and she's Wendy." Gon introduced himself and Wendy.
She smiles at him in response, which causes the silver-haired boy to blush.
"Y-Yeah, great to meet ya." He says and seizes his blush, "C-Cute!" He thought in his head.
"Guess I should run for a bit as well." Happy says out of nowhere.
"Wha- A talking cat?!" Killua dramatically exclaimed.
"Aye! I am happy the blue talking cat." He introduces while doing a flying pose.
He then deactivated his wings and starts running.
"Wow! How is a talking cat able to fly?" Killua asked in wonder.
"Magic power." Happy answers.
"Magic?" Killua is confused.
(They both tell killua what they told gon's group about magic)
"Wow, Magic is something else." Killua says.
"Yep, it sure is." Gon agrees.
"Under normal conditions, I could have easily just fly over to our destination, but the examiner said to follow him so that's out of the question." Happy says.
"I'm sure we don't have that far to go." Wendy assures.
"Oh? I'm not worried about that, I'm justing pointing that out." Happy replied to her.
Meanwhile Leorio is slowing down due to exhaustion and stops for a brief moment, looking like he can't go on. Gon sees him tired out and stops for a moment, which causes killua, wendy, and happy to stop as well.
"Hey, forget him." Killua says, "Let's get going."
"Yeah, we should keep up with everyone else." Happy agrees.
"Hold on a second you two." Wendy tells them.
Gon doesn't say anything and decides to wait for Leorio to catch up.
"Screw that..." Leorio then begins to take off and run fast, "I'm gonna become a hunter, damn it!" He rushes past the four.
"Would you look at that, Off he goes." Happy sweat-drops.
Gon smiles before throwing his rod forward and picking up Leorio's suitcase via hook.
"Cool!" All three of them beamed as Gon retrieves it before they resume running.
"I wanna try that out too" Killua says.
"Sure, if I get to try out your skateboard." Gon makes a deal, "What about you, wendy?"
"No thanks, I'm fine." Wendy happily declines.
As they reach the stairs, "We are now approaching the eighty kilometer mark. It is now time to pick up the pace." Satotz said, climbing the stairs in the same weird run while not evening looking at the stars.
"You guys wanna see who makes it to the top first?" Killua challenges.
"Sure." Gon accepts and wendy nods.
"The loser gets to buy dinner." Killua proposes.
"Your on!" Gon accepts and wendy is alright with it.
"Ah, forget this, I'm just gonna fly the rest of the way there." Happy lets out his wings.
After awhile, they catch up with Kurapika and leorio.
"See ya at the goal, Kurapika." Gon says.
"Catch ya later, old timer." Killua teases.
"I'm not old!" Leorio exclaims, "I'm not even 20 yet!" They all were very surprised at the sound of that.
"No way!" They all exclaimed.
As time kept dropping by, a lot of examines started falling apart one by one.
While they kept passing the fallen ones, "I'm surprised... you three can keep up with me." Killua states, "Or it's just that everyone else is too slow."
"I'm not even breaking a sweat." Happy brags.
"That's only because your flying." Killua rolls his eyes.
"Aye, heh heh." Happy awkwardly laughs.
"Man... this hunter exam is gonna be a breeze and that's no fun." Killua complains.
"So, why do you want to become a hunter?" Gon asked Killua.
"Me? I don't really want to be a hunter. I just heard the exam was gonna be hard, so I thought it's be fun, but this is disappointing...," Killua mumbled, "What about you two?"
"Well, we're only taking this cause the reward is worth a lot of jewels." Wendy explains.
"Oh really?" Killua raises a brow.
"But the jewels is for our client, who pays us in return." Happy adds.
"Client?" The Killua question.
"Back in the fairy tail guild, which is located in fiore, there's a Request Board. You pick a job you like, and contact the person asking for help, or in this case, money." Wendy explains.
"Wow, so you get to go on jobs whenever you want and earn money?" Killua widens his eyes, curiously.
"Aye!" Happy raises a pay in confirmation.
"It honestly makes me wanna join." Killua states.
"I was thinking the same thing." Gon agreed.
"The guild master wouldn't mind, as the whole guild is a family, even if you guys don't have magic." Wendy states which the boys nod happily, "Anyway, what about you, Gon?" She asks as they turn to him next.
"Well, my dad is a hunter so I want to be a hunter, like him," said Gon.
"What kind of a hunter is he?" Killua asked.
"I don't know." he shrugged.
Killua and happy started laughing out loud, Wendy continued giggling. "What's so funny?"
"That's kinda weird." Happy seizes his laughter.
"You want to be a hunter like your dad, but you don't know anything about him?" Killua asked and seized his laugh as well.
"I was raised by my Aunt Mito, so I've only seen my dad in pictures," he explained.
"Ah, that clears things up a bit." Wendy says.
"He became a hunter at twelve and left the island." Gon continues, "I want to find out why he became a hunter over being with me."
"Ah, so your basically trying to find him to get answers." Happy gets it.
"Yep." Gon confirms.
"The Exit!" Someone shouted. Everyone is relieved that they would finally make it out of the tunnel. The kids then ran faster to see who would reach it first.
"Now, let's see how many made it this far." Satoz thought as he reached the exit and stopped.
As he turned around, "GOAL!" Gon, killua, and wendy shouted and ran passed him, making it to the exit as well.
"Yay! I won!" Gon pumped his fist in the air.
"What are you talking about? I was faster..." Killua says.
"I was faster so you have to buy dinner!" Gon beams.
"No I was, so therefore you have to buy dinner." Killua beams back.
They then looked at each other and thought, "Or maybe... Wendy did?" The boys scratched their heads.
"Satotz-san, did you see who finished first?" Wendy asked.
"I believe you three all crossed simultaneously." Satotz stated.
"Oh, Then I'll buy you guys dinner!" Gon exclaimed.
Killua and Wendy stared at Gon then at each other. "Hm..." Gon scratched his head. "Then you guys buy me dinner!"
"I don't get it." Killua shrugs.
"Me neither, but it doesn't matter that much." Wendy agrees.
"Hey Satotz-san, is this where the second phase of the exam takes place?" Gon asked.
"No, we still have quite a while to go." Satoz answered.
"I wonder what it is this time." Happy comes up and deactivates his wings.
As it was foggy, every examine came up one by one, all sweaty and panting. Kurapika and Leorio come up as well in the same condition, really Leorio.
"Hey Kurapika!" Gon greets and receives a small wave.
"Is this our destination?" Kurapika asked.
"No, it isn't." Wendy answered.
"I see." He understands and looks around, "The fog is fading."
