Note: After a long time off, finally, SuperEarth is back - whether you like it or not. Haha. Now, just forewarning, this chapter doesn't really contain any action, just a few surprises and some fluff. I hope you like. Please can you also leave a review if you can – it's very discouraging not getting reviews, especially as reviews are down now for all our stories, and a lot of effort goes into our work.
Amber Jade Palmer
On the world known as Legacy Earth, the redheaded young Palmer woman entered her apartment. It was dark but she didn't turn on the light as she paused. She knew she wasn't alone.
"No," Amber stated, simply and instantly annoyed as there was a flash of light and a blonde girl in a red, white, and blue outfit with a glowing staff appeared in the room. The light coming from the glowing staff. "No," Amber repeated, pointing at the blonde girl.
"You don't even know what I was going to say…" the blonde stated, surprised by this reaction.
"You're growing the Justice Society of America, Stargirl," Amber stated, folding her arms now, the two bathed in the light of Stargirl's staff. "Ever since the Eclipso event in Blue Valley, you've been adding members, growing your Society – you're famous now."
"Which is why I'm asking you now. Dr. Mid-Nite has seen what you can do – the museum last week," Stargirl started.
"I was just in the wrong place at the right time," Amber dismissed.
"But you've been helping people all your life! We've seen security footage of when you were a kid. An incident at Halloween saving the people in the bandstand…" Stargirl insisted.
"I'd forgotten about that," Amber muttered, biting her lip now.
"Please, you have really special abilities –" Stargirl tried.
"Abilities I was born with; I didn't ask for them," Amber stated, frustrated now.
"Which is where the Society can help," Stargirl stated, trying to keep level-headed.
"Oh? Do you have any naturally born magic users in your ranks these days…?" Amber asked, sarcastically.
"Well, there is the Shade but I'm not too sure what his abilities do or when he got them," Stargirl mused. "Plus, Thunderbolt–"
"I'm sorry, but the answer is no. I'm happy doing my own thing – I don't need to be a hero," Amber stated. "Please, leave my apartment now."
"Well, in case you change your mind," Stargirl stated, putting a small piece of paper on a nearby table, "my number."
"Stargirl has a number?" Amber chuckled as the hero gave her a look before heading to the window.
"Please, just consider it," Stargirl implored as she used her staff like a witch's broom to fly out of the open window and into the night.
"Yeah, as if," Amber sighed, finally turning on the lights before moving over and picking up the calling card. She moved to throw it in the nearby trash can, but stopped, unsure why. She sighed as instead she pocketed the thing before heading to the bathroom.
-SuperEarth-
On SuperEarth, in the present day, Amber Jade stood before her own multiverse brother, Ray Palmer in his own apartment in Central City. After her reveal to him, he had taken her back here, obviously still unsure on her, but had an open mind.
"So, you're from another world?" Ray asked. "How?"
"The multiverse?" Amber paused. "You don't know about the multiverse? Other Rays do…" being new to the hero game, Ray hadn't actually learned of the multiverse yet.
"Other Rays? How many of me do you know?" Ray asked, his head spinning now.
"Well, aside from my own Ray back home, you would be the fifth… or sixth. Maybe the seventh," Amber pointed out. "But all of them were already heroes – well, aside from my own Ray back home – but you're just starting… right? You are just starting?"
"Yeah, I am," Ray said. He had since taken off his ATOM suit and was in his regular attire.
"Why?" Amber had to ask.
"What do you mean, why?" Ray was getting annoyed with this girl now – he still wasn't sure she was his sister; he barely understood the multiverse, and she hadn't explained more.
"Why do you do all this hero stuff? What exactly made you do it?" Amber asked.
"Look, I could go into a whole lecture of whats and whys, but honestly, I'm finding it hard to believe you are who you say you are, so if you don't mind…" before Amber could complain, Ray had come at her with a needle, surprising her as he took some of her blood, but she didn't complain as he moved off to a small machine he had in the room – one of many. Amber glanced at the puncture wound her brother had made, but it had already healed over.
"What are you up to?" Amber asked now as Ray input her blood into the small machine.
"DNA test," Ray explained, but didn't turn back to the woman claiming to be his sister.
"You took a lot of blood for that," Amber pointed out.
"Yes… I did, didn't I?" Ray smirked to himself.
"Picking on your little sister, as usual?" Amber couldn't help but chuckle at this.
"Up for debate," Ray stated as the machine went ding and printed out a piece of paper.
"Well, what does it say?" Amber asked as Ray frowned at the printout.
"We share at least one parent," Ray stated, looking up at Amber. "The same mother to be precise."
"Obviously," Amber sighed.
"Care to explain further?" Ray now asked, the tables turned now he was asking the questions.
"I was a miracle baby," Amber stated, to a frown from Ray. "Mum fell pregnant with me when she wasn't planning it, and to add to the miracle, I was born on a leap year, February 29th," Amber explained. "And I also… well, I was born with powers."
"Seriously?" Ray asked.
"Deadly serious," Amber stated. "But I don't know what my powers are or how they work – they just… happen when I need them to. Like jumping from world to world."
"And back onto the multiverse," Ray sighed.
"Hey, I didn't even know it was a thing either until I questioned about being a hero and was sent to a world where a version of you was a hero," Amber protested. "Weirdly, I also knew the name of the world when I got there."
"Different worlds have names?" Ray asked, frowning at this.
"Yeah. This one is called SuperEarth, the first world I landed on was called New Justice, but that Ray had been adopted so was pointless me introducing myself to him. His name was Adam there. I also went to a world called Prime and then Karry Universe. There was a world called Kingdom Come where you were a hero and Superman looked exactly like you... and world called Hero as well, I think. Then there was Beautiful, but that was pointless since Ray was an actor there, not a hero," Amber rambled. "Come to think of it, aside from occasional appearance from Supergirl and the Flash, I don't think Beautiful even had heroes."
"What's a Karry?" Ray asked, circling back to this as he listened to the ramble.
"Huh? Oh, Karry... you know, I don't actually know," Amber said back, frowning.
"They are pretty random names for other worlds," Ray said with a shrug as he thought over what this alternate sister of his had said. "And you introduced yourself to some of those Rays?" Ray had to ask. He was a bit curious about them now he knew they existed.
"Hell no. They were all already heroes, deep in the game - well besides Beautiful who, like I said, was an actor; but I knew you were new. To be fair, I wasn't going to introduce myself to you either," Amber pointed out.
"I saw you following me," Ray pointed out. "How did you get from city to city so quickly?"
"The same way I managed to get from world to world – I just… did," Amber explained.
"Your powers… are they magic?" Ray asked. "Can you show me?"
"I wish I could," Amber sighed, finally taking a seat now. "They just happen when I need them to. Like the other week there was a robbery going in at the museum I like to visit and just when I thought the two idiots should be taken away, the ceiling caved in on them and knocked them out in time for the cops to arrive."
"Seriously?" Ray paused at this.
"They were okay, just concussed, although the museum is under serious repair. But weird things like that have happened to me all my life. After the museum thing, Stargirl came to me wanting me to join her Justice Society," Amber explained.
"Justice… Society?" Ray asked.
"Yeah, I know, most worlds it's the Justice League – I've learned that in the past few days," Amber stated.
"Who's Stargirl?" Ray asked, circling back.
"A superhero who's determined to grow her JSA," Amber stated. "She wanted me to join, like I said, but I said no…"
"Because you don't know how to control your powers?" Ray asked.
"Partially… but also because I don't want in on the hero game. Well, not yet. I mean it would be cool – Superman and Wonder Woman are awesome – but I mean, how could I even compete? Why should I?" Amber asked.
"Look, I'm no expert," Ray stated, sitting next to Amber now, "but this isn't something you should try and find out in a rush."
"I'm not in a rush," Amber pointed out.
"Oh?" Ray chuckled at this. "From my understanding, ever since this Stargirl turned up and asked you to join her League –"
"Society," Amber interrupted.
"Society," Ray corrected, "you've been jumping from world to world to find someone to help. You've been to like six worlds in only a few days. You need to take a pause and figure out what you want."
"Well, I don't even know how to go home to even think things through. I don't even know if I want to go home with Stargirl on the prowl," Amber admitted.
"Then stay with me... for a bit," Ray pointed out meekly. He had to admit he was liking this apparent sister of his. Or half-sister.
"You sure?" Amber asked, looking at her brother now.
"I may not know what this multiverse is, but I know the facts state you are my sister – and if you don't help family, what's the point?" Ray chuckled. "You can stay here, give yourself some time to figure out what you want. I also know of a few people who could help you with your powers," Ray added.
"Thanks Ray," Amber smiled at her brother now. "I knew there was a reason you were my favorite brother."
"Well, Sidney sucks, anyway," Ray remarked. Amber laughed at this.
-SuperEarth-
Late March 2022.
It had been a month since Amber Jade Palmer had appeared on SuperEarth and she hadn't returned home yet. Ray had gotten used to her – in fact he had even introduced her to some of his colleagues at STAR Labs, albeit as his distant cousin as they already knew he didn't have a sister. At least in this world.
Ray had also learned that his new sister liked to go by the initials 'AJ' when talking, as it was easier and quicker to say, while she'd ended up calling him 'Raymondo' which she called her actual Ray back home.
Today they were both in STAR Labs, Ray overlooking the latest project he was in charge of when his mind wandered.
"You've been here a month already," Ray pointed out to AJ, who frowned at him at this.
"So what?" AJ asked; careful to keep her voice low so nearby workers couldn't overhear them.
"Well… aren't your family going to miss you? Well, other me, Sidney, and mom?" His father had long since died on AJ's world, whereas both of his parents were dead on this world.
"More than likely. It's not like I can go back there and tell them I'm alright though," AJ sighed.
"What do you mean?" Ray asked.
"I haven't been able to leave this world, remember? I mean I'm happy here, with a fun big brother and no Stargirl on my ass, so I've not needed to leave…" AJ pointed out.
"Plus, free room and board," Ray smirked at that – she lived with him right now, rent-free and the fridge had never been emptier since she'd turned up.
"True," AJ chuckled. "Besides, I'm only halfway through Classic Doctor Who here – I mean, Peter Davison got four seasons on this world, Colin Baker got three and Sylvester McCoy got four before it was canned."
"I love how much of a Whovian you are," Ray chuckled, finding it weird that some shows and general things were different on her world. Ray wondered if there would be a way to watch other worlds shows without having to live on their Earth for a while.
"I can thank you for that," AJ pushed her brother happily, but then got very serious as she added, a little thoughtfully: "You know, I'm probably fired from my job and lost my apartment back home," she frowned as she said this, a little concerned.
"You could just ask Sid for a loan to get money back on track," Ray shrugged, knowing his brother on AJ's world was a multi-millionaire. He hadn't heard from his Sidney in years, so it didn't matter to him what other worlds' Sidneys were like.
"Or I could... just stay here," AJ stated, wistfully.
"Mom, and other-me will miss you. Besides, if you stay here much longer, I'd consider you a spy for the latest tech we have," Ray joked.
"Oh yeah, that programmable matter stuff. Reminds me of magnetic beads or that sand stuff you can sculpt under water," AJ laughed at this, seeing a group of scientists a way off using this technology to make a rudimentary dumbbell.
"Hey, that stuff can change the world when done right," Ray pointed out. "If it weren't for Barry Allen we wouldn't be anywhere near where we are on the project."
"And WellsAllen Tech is getting a percentage of the rights?" AJ asked, genuinely curious now.
"Yeah. Barry and I brainstormed it a while ago, but STAR Labs has the finances to make it happen, and with my genius and his role as advisor, we're well on the way to a proper prototype," Ray explained. "He'll be getting a whopping 40% of all profits made. If this takes off… well, he'll be rolling in it, as well as whatever he makes from his own company."
"Considering he has Zari and Adri, plus the twins on the way, he'll need all the money he can get," AJ laughed at that. "Actually… doesn't he have a connection to the Flash and Supergirl?"
"He does, yeah, why?" Ray asked, looking to his sister in concern.
"Learning to be a hero from you is pointless – you're still training with others," AJ pointed out bluntly.
"Hey, last time I was with Wonder Woman and we kicked ass," Ray pointed out.
"She really does, but it's not like I can tag along when you go out with others like that. I need something more one-on-one and if Barry can get me an audience with either Supergirl or the Flash it's a win. And hey, if they can help, I may be going home sooner rather than later," AJ stated, starting to move off.
"I like having you here though," Ray pointed out, to a smirk from AJ as she turned to glance at him before leaving the room. "Although, how do you know where Barry is…?" Ray asked, more to himself than anyone else before shrugging it off. "Ah, she'll find him soon enough," he muttered as he moved over to the scientists now working with the programmable matter to see how the project was going.
-SuperEarth-
Barry was chasing after Adrianna in their back garden – as a speedster, he would have been able to easily catch up to her, but he knew to stay at human speeds, especially with Lara running and barking happily as she helped chase the girl, who was laughing her head off.
"Got you!" Barry called as he grabbed Adri to hug, Lara jumping up at the pair as Adri laughed. He looked over to the back porch, where Kara was sitting and smiling at them, talking to Adri's older sister, Zari, and Kayla. The Mon-El who was dating Kayla was also present, smiling as he watched the dog and child. All were on beach chairs, despite the cooler weather, although the girls were wrapped up warmly.
"Looking good, Allen!" Kayla laughed, holding her thumbs up as Lara now moved away from man and child to jump up at Kayla, who started laughing again.
"Can we go in the pool yet?" Zari asked Kara as Barry moved over to the group, Adrianna in tow.
"It's March," Kara pointed out.
"So? It's a heated pool." Zari added.
"A heated above ground pool." Kayla added, looking at the thing in their back garden.
"Why don't you get an in-ground pool?" Mon added.
"It came with the house," Kara shrugged as Barry now frowned, wondering if he should update the pool before summer. Lara moved off from Kayla now to focus her attention back on Adri, who started playing with the dog.
"Well, it's warm enough, I can turn on the heat and it'll be fine in like 5 minutes…" Barry started, but stopped when someone else appeared in their back garden, having come through the back gate. "Oy, private property!" he began moving over to her.
"Hey, hey, I'm a friend!" The newbie, a red headed girl, called over to him, arms raised. "I'm Ray Palmer's sis- cousin," she added as Barry stopped before her.
"Oh," Barry paused. "Ray told me about his cousin who was staying with him. Did Ray send you? How can I help?"
"Well, erm…" AJ paused as she looked at the family gathering. "I can come back another time?"
"No, no, come on, I need to turn the pool heater on for the girls, but let me introduce you to the family," he moved back over to the others at this, AJ following behind him. "This is my wife, Kara – currently expecting twins."
"Ray told me, congratulations," AJ smiled at Kara, who simply nodded at the girl.
"This is Kayla, Kara's sister – well you can tell from the resemblance. She's here to look after Kara too as she's usually out of the county," Barry explained, using this explanation as to why Kayla hadn't been mentioned before on this world, considering she was a multiverse hitchhiker. "And this Kayla's partner, Mon," he indicated to Mon-El, who nodded at the girl.
"And these are our fostered daughters, Zari," the girl waved from the deck chair next to Kara, "and her sister, Adrianna over there with Lara our dog," the girl-and-dog were still playing. "Let me just turn on the heater and I can help," Barry stated, moving over to the pool now to switch on the water heater.
"So, what do they call you?" Kara asked, not moving from her deck chair – she was comfortable and getting big with the twins of inside her.
"Amber Jade," AJ stated, "but they call me AJ," she frowned as she looked between Kara and Kayla now, just as Barry came back to her. Something felt off to her about their apparent sisterly connection.
"AJ, you said?" Barry asked, having heard the name as he came back over.
"Yeah, AJ Palmer. From Ray's dad's side… obviously," AJ stated quickly, realizing that to have the last name Palmer here, her alias would have to be from Ray's dad's side.
"Do you want to get changed, Zari?" Barry asked. "The pool will be warm shortly."
"Sure!" Zari grinned as she jumped up from the chair to head indoors. Adri and Lara were still chasing one another, the dog barking happily.
"I'll join her. Keep an eye on things," Mon added; he was already just in swim trunks and flip flops, not feeling any chill in the early year weather.
"Thanks," Barry smiled at Mon before turning his attention back to AJ. "What can we help you with?" Barry now asked, taking Zari's abandoned chair.
"You're the Flash," AJ stated, frowning at Barry now, who paused at this.
"What…?" Barry glanced at Kara and Kayla now, the former who sat up on her chair, despite her pregnancy. Mon also frowned at this.
"That means…. You're Supergirl! Or you both are Supergirl?" AJ stated, looking to Kara and Kayla. "Not sure who you are though," she frowned at Mon, who smirked at this
"Please explain yourself," Kara asked as Kayla remained silent.
"I'm sorry… I… I just have this power. Well, it's more like magic, I suppose, but it just happens, and I can just see it. I see you're the Flash and you two are Supergirl," AJ stated, blushing a little as she looked between the three adults. "Wait, you're from the multiverse!" she added to Kayla.
"I don't…" Barry wasn't sure how to react to this as he looked to his wife, hopeful she could resolve this.
"Look, I come from a world called Legacy Earth where–" AJ began.
"Wait, Legacy Earth?" Kayla spoke up.
"Yeah, do you know it?" AJ asked.
"More than that. Hang on," now it was Kayla's turn to jump up from the chair and head indoors, Barry and Kara sharing a confused look.
"You know the multiverse?" Barry asked AJ now, frowning to AJ.
"Yes and no. Okay, long story short but I'm not Ray's cousin, I'm his sister. Bit of a miracle baby but that's neither here nor there right now – I've been pestered by a hero called Stargirl who wants me to join her Justice Society due to my magical abilities and I've been jumping worlds to find a place where I can learn more about them without having to interact with her. So far, I've been to worlds where my brother is usually a hero, but I couldn't approach him until this world," AJ explained. "My magic, as you call it, is… kind of unpredictable."
"Got it!" Barry, Kara, Mon, and AJ turned to the back door to see Kayla had come back, but Zari was behind her.
"Got what, Aunt Kayla?" Zari asked.
"My journal," Kayla chuckled.
"Why don't you try the pool?" Barry asked the girl quickly. "And check to see if your sister's worn-out Lara yet."
"Hehe, of course," Zari chuckled, going out onto the lawn to call for her sister who must have been playing hide and seek with Lara, as the dog was now sniffing her out – of course, this was a fruitless attempt, given Lara had x-ray vision and could likely see Adri regardless, but the dog was playing along anyway. Mon now stood, to follow the girl and check on her while in the pool, not wanting to leave her unattended when swimming, obviously.
"Why your journal?" Kara now asked her multiverse twin, who took to her lounge chair once more.
"Because I've been to a world called Legacy Earth before…" Kayla stated, flipping through the handwritten pages of the worn book. "Here! 'Cisco wants to call this world 'Legacy Earth', given the kids are taking over their superior's legacies'", Kayla quoted from her journal.
"Sounds about right," AJ muttered, but Kayla held out a finger to quieten the girl.
"'There were teenaged heroes on that world'", Kayla continued from her journal, "'The daughter of their original Justice Society member, Starman – I never did find out if he was the son of the original Stargirl, I'll have to ask next time we go there – along with the son of someone called Hourman….'"
"That's them," AJ sighed. "Stargirl and her original Justice Society: Hourman, Dr. Mid-Night, Wildcat, Thunderbolt, Huntress and Dragon Queen."
"Those are interesting names. Never heard of them," Kara remarked.
"Yeah, I've not heard of those names before," Kayla added.
"Lucky you," AJ remarked.
"Let me continue," Kayla stated to the group, who quietened to let her talk. "'I'm not too sure on her and the others going around as heroes though, especially when they have this demon thing called Eclipso after them. I don't even know where to start with that one… yadda-yadda-yadda… Ah, here, I told that Stargirl she needed more people in her Justice Society. That she needed to double down and take inventory and not jump ahead like she's trying right now. It takes time to build a Justice League - well, Society'". Kayla looked up at the group at this.
"You're why she's after me," AJ groaned, sitting back now. "She's after more people for her Justice Society and she's focussed on me."
"Mutant Earth's Cisco was going to keep an eye on her," Kayla bit her lip.
"Or maybe he did and just didn't care enough on their goings on to go over and check," Kara pointed out, dryly.
"But hey she took my advice. I wonder if she ever looked up to see if Jay Garrick had children or a nephew?" Kayla said thinking a return to Legacy Earth had to be put on her calendar just to find out if that world had a Rae or Barry.
"Still, if you're magic… I mean, that can come in handy for any Justice Society or League," Barry voiced to AJ as Kayla shut her journal now.
"I could be, but I have no idea how to control it," AJ pointed out. "And even if I did…"
"You need to know what it's like to be a hero," Barry smirked now. "I'm guessing Ray, aka, the ATOM, hasn't helped?"
"He's just training," AJ shrugged. "Hard to get alone-time while he's training with the likes of Vixen, Batwoman, Superman, Wonder Woman and that lot," AJ stated.
"True. Plus, you don't know how to work your magic," Kayla voiced.
"Well, you're on the right world for that one," Barry chuckled, pulling out his cell phone.
"Who are you calling?" AJ asked, but Barry held out a finger to quieten her.
"Hey, John, call me back when you get the chance," Barry said into his cell, "I have someone you may be interested in here. Magic user apparently." He hung up the cell at this. "Voicemail," he added.
"Who's John?" AJ asked.
"Only the greatest magic user on this world," Kara stated, a little lazily now.
"John Constantine, also known as Hellblazer," Barry stated for AJ's benefit. "He trained Raven, aka Rachel Roth, to be the magic user she is today."
"Oh," AJ blinked at this. "I know those two. Or sort of. But Hellblazer is a woman on my world."
"What?" Kara and Barry said together.
"Joanna Constantine, I think she's called," AJ stated. "Never sought her out. She and Raven are the latest additions to the Justice Society back home."
"Perhaps you should have gone to them," Kara spoke up, dryly.
"Too intimidating," AJ blushed at this.
"I can see that," Barry laughed.
John as a woman… Kara now stated through their Kryptonian Bond. I thought I'd seen worse, but now…
Imagine if our John was a woman. Alex and 'Joanna' wouldn't be together, that's for sure, Barry thought back.
John with Alex is bad enough, Kara shook her head at this.
"Urm, guys?" AJ asked.
"They're talking in their heads," Kayla stated. "A special mental bond that happens to Kryptonians and their significant others at times. You get used to it."
"Oh," AJ didn't quite know how to respond to this one.
-SuperEarth-
On the other end of the city, in the small-bedroom apartment, John Constantine stood before Charlie, formerly Clotho, one of the Sisters of Fate. He had magical symbols drawn in chalk on the floor of the spare room and candles littered around, ready to start the next incantation.
"Are you sure you're really ready for this?" John asked Charlie now. "You'll come face-to-face with your former sisters down there."
"I did this to them. I sent them to Hell and never told them why," Charlie sighed. "And now they're getting that Astra girl to take my place. I must do this." Charlie stated.
"Well, Enchantress helped there," John remarked thoughtfully.
"She was the only one with the power to spare me from going to Hell with my sisters, true," Charlie stated, "and since then, my life has been better – the lives of everyone on this planet have been better, in fact."
"Definitely," John stated, indicating that Charlie should sit in front of him as he squatted within the chalk circle on the floor.
"Is Raven not joining us?" Charlie asked, hesitating a little.
"This isn't some place I want my little protegee to visit," John stated, darkly. "Besides, there are sides to me down there she wont like. The original John of this world, for instance, and my ancestor."
"Ancestor?" Charlie asked.
"Johanna. She's down there too." John sighed.
"Oh, yeah, the name does ring a bell," Charlie admitted now.
"But we need to do this now, before Raven comes back from work."
"She has a job?" Charlie paused again. "And she lives with you?
"She's a waitress at Big Belly Burger," John dismissed. "And she rents a room. She has no family. Now come on, let's do this."
"Right," Charlie sighed as she finally squatted down in front of John, the man holding his hands out for the woman to take.
"Good, now, repeat after me…" John began as Charlie took a breath and closed her eyes
Post-chapter note: As stated before, not much action, just some fluff. What do you guys think of Amber Jade Palmer? Any guesses as to her bigger part in the Millma Verse?
Please can you guys' review, too – like I said before, with reviews down it's a little disheartening not to be commented on for the hard work that goes into this and our other stories.
