Chapter 5: Dark Musing

Beta-Reader: Ant0nius

"So, I guess you are really getting back on track."

"That's one way to put it, Taffy," I remarked, sitting on a chair as I watched Pulsar go for a surfing session while Naerie and Hope were waiting for their turn to try out the water. The Bunny Prime had decided to check on me. Quite the pleasant surprise, and it allowed me to tell her how things have been going as of the last few weeks to the last month. "And what about these two you found at the farm? How are they faring?"

Taffy had been extremely kind and generous, not an unusual display of emotions towards those few people that seemed in need of help. And those two 'cats' that had strayed in Las Lindas were just that- kids in need of help. Well, one was a kid and she sounded quite an adorable person to speak with.

Sarah, the name Taffy gave me rang no bell, but she was being described as this airhead kind of gal that was a bit silly but nonetheless good of heart. Her older sister was quite the opposite in some aspects. Rachael was the crafty kind of person that was seasoned in handling the tricks and the bad side of living in the streets. She had been the one taking care of both herself and her little sister for years now, and that put her at odds with...

Miles.

In a way, I could see why these two would clash so much. Miles was crafty himself, but had matured in the last year to be somewhat less slippery about it. He was still a cheeky bastard at times as the few conversations I held with him would show, but he was also getting the hang of 'good and hard work translated into a healthier lifestyle'.

It may not be something a young man from the city would have wanted, but it was enough for him to find his own peace of mind after what he went through in High School. I did tell him that his ex-girlfriend was traveling with me, but that was all. Miles was the one that broke up and he was glad that 'someone with some common sense' was keeping Hope from being too brazen about relationships.

And I could see the issue right as I looked at her and Naerie playing by the water. Hope was quick to try and gain the attention of guys around, not purposely but clearly driven by her own attachment to Love Magic, while Naerie was the limiter that kept her under check.

It was going to be something I definitely needed to bring up to her mother once I had to deal with that sort of mess and... I was brought back to another wave of unease.

"They are working properly. Sarah was difficult to understand since she lacks experience for complex works, but showed some good inclination in dealing with the apple orchard. Rachael is a bit more of a technical engineer. She is quick on her feet, but hates working under Miles."

"And I bet Miles is gloating a lot about it despite the headaches that's giving him."

"You know him," She affirmed, and then sighed. "Matt, I was thinking about sending you and your nieces a cake or two but... I don't exactly know their favorite flavors."

"Anything sweet for Naerie. She doesn't have a preference for that. And I would suggest a... Apple Pie for Hope. She is accustomed to the classics," I answered her indirect questions. "And what kind of souvenir would you like, dear?"

I heard her hesitate and blush through the phone, which was quite hilarious considering that I had seen her do this so many times with the right questions that I just didn't need to have her in front of me to tell. Ah yes, Taffy is just a treasure.

"I-I guess a... surfing board?"

"What if I already sent you a box with a few plants that can be used for ingredients for local food... and I also sent you a few receipts to try out?"

"That's a lot more better," Taffy muttered in surprise, then catching herself on what she just said. "I-I mean, thank you."

"You're welcome. Don't sweat it, Taffs."

The call ended shortly after, and I was left back to my own thoughts. This time around, I didn't focus on just my own memories, but something that deeply concerned me right as Archie brought up some news regarding this Prism Light group that had started to make into the news. Terrorists from the looks of it, they would attack people that had Nanozell Spirits and purposely destroy the source crystal or outright murder the Human/Prime hosts to these spirits.

The end result would be quite brutal, and enough to baffle the local police officers but also the Knights dispatched to deal with this issue. At first glance, they look like a normal bunch of thugs with some good plans behind their hits. Some had been captured, but none could find much in their minds despite employing Wisdom specialists. It was like something erased their memories right as they were brought in for interrogation. Quite perplexing, but their overall goal was what unnerved me.

To put the rightful Queen on the throne.

To announce something like this and still keep a modest silent following, it meant that their claim had some weight. It had to be someone that could legitimately claim the Queendom as her birthright, someone that had blood in her veins which was considered part of the royal family. I knew that Addie didn't have any children, and that her mother had just her as her heiress.

No, there was only a single individual that matched with that description and-

"My name is Pandora, my Champion, and I look to see more of what you plan to do with your own strengths."

If it was indeed Pandora, then something unpleasant was happening. If she was still active and causing this much issue despite her promise to stop waging a war against the Dragon Gods, then things may have taken a dark turn in that regard. And who was once a loyal ally to me and Addie was not a dangerous enemy in future potential confrontations.

"So, what's the plan, boss?" Pulsar's voice brought me out of my own thoughts. I gave him a tired look.

"Try to get everyone's attention without messing up the reunions. Hopefully," I admitted, trying to make sense of my own confused thoughts on this matter. "Then again, there are other circumstances to take into account depending on those I have to speak with but… I will tackle those when the time comes."

"But it isn't the current worry you have. Come on, what's the issue?"

It's been centuries now, and while I knew that Ambar would have killed me if I mentioned this little secret I didn't mention to her or Kate, I needed to bring this up to someone somehow.

"...Do you remember during the final battle against the big, dark and gloomy I... I used something else besides the Crests' powers?"

The Ice Crest hummed, thinking back at the scene itself and, after a lengthy silence, he nodded. "I think I do."

"There was... someone else that wanted the Emperor gone. Someone that gave me advice on how to tap into Chaos and-" I paused, noticing Pulsar's surprise at the topic. "And I don't know what happened to her after I left."

The surfer was silent for sometime, all for the sake of channeling as many questions as he could at the absurd revelation. Me, the Grand Knight, had used Chaos against the Chaos Emperor. It might sound absurd but... it wasn't like there had been much of a choice in that matter. The bastard was growing stronger by the second, the dread caused by the detonation of Earth allowing him to attain energy through fear itself. And the conflict forced me to end it quickly before the planet would have been destroyed before the end of the evacuation.

"Why are you bringing this up only now?"

"It happened in circumstances where I couldn't see an issue. Likewise, Addie had me keep quiet until we had proper confirmation of her good intentions and... she proved herself a good and reliable ally."

He sighed. "But? Come on, don't make me pull it out from your teeth."

"But it's possible she is in charge of this new group, Prism Light," I revealed. "And I don't know what to do with this."

"Are you sure it's her or... someone like her?"

"Pandora- she was the last queen of Prism's main branch before Addie's line took over," I explained truthfully. "Prism Light is all about wanting to put the rightful queen in charge and that would make sense."

"Still, wouldn't that require having a living body?"

"It should, and she shouldn't have a real body due to the fact she can't fully manifest without getting detected and assaulted by any of the Gods. They are stingy about that topic."

Which would mean that wasn't the case. If so, then who could be in charge of Prism Light?
