Freeman's Odyssey

Chapter: 183

Part One: Black Forest rescue

White forest base

Gordon Freeman, Alita, D0g and Alyx stand there which they wait for the transport to show up and Alita wanted to know what the Black Forest is and why it's far worse than a place called Ravenholme.

"Well," said Alyx "We call it the Black Forest, because of strange things people have reported, long before the Combine Occupation there had been reports about creatures."

"Isn't that area nearby City 77," replied Gordon

"City 77," asked Alita?

"It was once called Berlin Germany," said Aylx "When the Combine took over they turned it into a forced labor Camp by Dr. Breen himself."

"Anything else in or near the black forest," asked Alita?

"I know there used to be villages nearby the forest, but those are gone now due to the Combine invasion and Berlin itself is ruined due to the tower falling on city 77 after the uprisings." Said Gordon.

Then all of a sudden a transport lands near their location, it's a captured Combine troop transport and so all four of them walked to the transport and a vorgunat pilot is piloting the transport and so they got in, then the transport rises up into the air and flies off towards it's intended destination near the black forest.

The black forest: Two days later

The pilot landed on the outskirts of the black forest near an abandoned village which Sheppard and his team landed. Alyx will radio the pilot once the job is done in this rescue mission. Alita didn't know what to expect and she is ready for battle, what mysteries await in the forest she did not even know.

n ancient times, the Black Forest was known as Abnoba mons, after the Celtic deity, Abnoba. In Roman times (Late Antiquity), it was given the name Silva Marciana ("Marcynian Forest", from the Germanic word marka = "border").

Remnants of military fortifications dating from the 17th and 18th centuries can be found in the Black Forest, especially on the mountain passes.

The Black Forest probably represented the border area of the Marcomanni who were settled east of the Roman limes. They, in turn, were part of the Germanic tribe of Suebi, who subsequently gave their name to the historic state of Swabia. With the exception of Roman settlements on the perimeter and the construction of the Roman road of Kinzigtalstraße, the colonization of the Black Forest was not carried out by the Romans, but by the Alemanni.

They settled and first colonized the valleys, crossing the old settlement boundary, the so-called "red sandstone border", for example, from the region of Baar. Soon afterwards, increasingly higher areas and adjacent forests were colonized, so that by the end of the 10th century, the first settlements could be found in the red (bunter) sandstone region. These include, for example, Rötenbach, which was first mentioned in 819.

The sun started to rise over the horizon which to indicate a new day has come and so Gordon, Alita, Alyx and D0g make their way to the forest following the emergency signal that Sheppard had sent out to be rescued. No one said a word and kept on walking into the forest itself.

However all of them are on alert in case of trouble. Alita can see the first is vast and quiet, perhaps a little too quiet. Why are the birds not singing or are there any animals around, they walked upon a trail in the forest until they hear groaning noises and Gordon knows what that sound is.

"We're going to have company," said Gordon

"Like what," said Alita

"Them," pointed Alyx

"D0g smash," replied the robot

All of them stand ready which one of them appears followed by many more which it's a horde of headcrab zombies and coming for them. Gordon and Alyx had seen this numerous of times before and there is nothing to do to save these one people, a quick death is better for them.
