Chapter One

"Jin Kazama requests you for your services." Her agency boss had told her with excitement. To work for a Mishima was a step up in the corporate ladder of anything. That was her new twist of fate. Working for the family company that was responsible for her being forced into cold sleep and experimented on.

As she couldn't afford to be picky, Nina signed the agreement. While she couldn't afford to be picky, Jin Kazama was certainly picky.

The new CEO of the Mishima Zaibatsu. He wasn't responsible for any atrocities against her unlike his father and grandfather. In fact it was the opposite. He saved her life. He left a lasting impression on her and she never forgot the man who showed her genuine kindness.

Not much was known about the young man apart from the fact that he was quite insisted that her agency only send her to work for him. Nina Williams was eager to find out why he wanted only her. The last she'd seen him was two years ago, he beat the Ogre out of her. He had an air of vulnerability about him then, when he peered over at her lying on the ground with concern. His fear on seeing her cold glassy eyes, worried if the Ogre was back.

As Nina stepped into the Zaibatsu's Central Tower, she wondered if he was still that same Jin. Head of the Zaibatsu now. People always say whoever sat on that throne became corrupted. Nina approaches the receptionist who takes her name and gives her the route to Jin's office. She narrows her eyes at how the young receptionist uttered Jin's name with a stammer, the flash of fear in her eyes as her hands shook over the keyboard.

When she finally reaches his office, she pushed the big door open. There he was, sat at his desk and as soon as she entered his domain, his dark eyes lifted up from the book he was reading and at her.

Nina's breath hitched. His gaze felt like he could see right through her.

"Jin Kazama." Nina Williams says without preamble. "I'm Nina Williams."

That veneer of professionalism did very little to make her feel as if she had the upper hand in this silent staring match. There was nothing platonic about the look that they shared. She felt his energy. Dark and sexual. It pulled something deep from within her, something she thought that was long buried and forgotten.

"I know who you are." He finally said to the attractive blonde. His deep voice echoed in his large office.

She couldn't hide from him.

He observed her, the elusive assassin and Jin too felt the energy from this blonde woman. She came in here with a robotic professional mask but with one look from him, it was slipping. She wasn't the only one feeling this strange sexual energy emanating between them. They both knew each other had brilliant minds just by being in each other's presence.

Two independent, intellectual and unique souls in one room. Alone.

One from fire and the other from ice. There was bound to be steam between them.

He had a critical look as if he was checking out his newly hired toy. His hired weapon. This poor woman was a former lab rat, a victim of the zaibatsu. She was also murderer, he reminded himself. Probably killed many helpless innocent people who didn't deserve to die. He spared her life, not knowing what she was going to do in the future. Was he too in a way responsible for the people she killed in the past two years? He had their blood on his hands, didn't he?

Nina was almost tempted to ask him if he remembered her but that wasn't important to her. She was here for the job.

"The contract?" He asked finally and she places it down on his desk. Her agency had been sent the contract and she had to read and sign it before even stepping into the building. Jin was that anal about having employees sign his terms and contracts before entering the Zaibatsu. There was also a bunch of alarming stuff in there that made her realize he was sort of paranoid. Or was it a Mishima thing?

Nina slid the contract towards Jin who picked it up and checked for her signature. She runs her eyes over him, noting he was now wearing a leather coat and a shirt that was a little unbuttoned, showing her a cheeky bit of cleavage. Much different to how his father dressed in that purple suit with a bright red scarf. What should Nina expect?

His staff seemed to be scared shitless of him.

"Good." Jin broke the silence and puts the contract down. "Now sit."

He spoke to her like he was the master and she was his bitch. In a bid to take back some of the control, Nina took a seat and leaned forward, with her hands clasped.

"Well Jin, you're probably new to this stuff but get one thing clear. I don't do well with clients who think they can treat me as they please." She said.

She always had shitty clients but he didn't have to know that. If she was going to be Jin's bodyguard, it meant she'd have to spent most of her time near him. He better not treat her like a dog despite the temptation. Beside that contract was for months. Months!

"I see. Don't worry. I'm not like my father." Jin assured, sitting back into his chair. "Just to clear the air though, I know about your past." He watched her tense up. "The cold sleep, the amnesia, the sister…everything."

Of course, it was business. He was going to do a ruthless background check on her. God, she felt so naked infront of him right now. Nina forced herself to look at him, his dark almond shaped eyes look intently at her. Behind those spear like bangs. Had she been weak, she might have leaned so close and captured his lips in a kiss. She was actually so close in doing that. That energy was still there. Nina needed a distraction. Jin's plush lips was calling to her.

"Then you know I'm not exactly enthused about working for Kazuya's son." Her voice wavered.

She saw the little scowl on Jin's face at the name of his father. Nina didn't know what the relationship between Kauzya and Jin was like but judging from the fact that everyone knew Mishimas betrayed each other, it was safe bet that even Jin disliked the other two Mishimas and they also hated him. This family was dysfunctional as her and own her sister were.

"I don't blame you. If you want me to promise not to do you what Heihachi and Kazuya did then I promise, I won't. I have no ill intentions towards you."

She nodded, those words were good to hear but it would be foolish to believe them even if Jin did sound so sincere.

"You're here not because of the money." Jin said.

Money was nothing to her. She had more than enough of it. What mattered was the prestige of her new role. He could offer her all the money in the world and she couldn't care less. Money made poor people's world turn around. She wasn't poor. Nina wasn't after world domination either. She was glad that she was hard to read for people because what made her tick would be surprising to them. This Jin Kazama though, he didn't have to be told. He looked at her as if he knew exactly who he was dealing with. No one ever came close like him and this was just the first meeting. Her heart raced.

"I'm not here because of the money." Nina echoed back, trying to keep a steady face. She felt her heartbeats thud. Her fingers pressed against the side of her chair.

Jin reached for his phone.

"What do you want to eat? Beef chow Mein or Chicken pie?" He asked.

Nina frowned. "I beg your pardon?"

"My in house chefs can prepare the meal. Today's special is either Beef Chow Mein or Chicken Pie." He explained.

"We're going to eat right here? On your desk?" She asked in shock.

He nodded as if it was such a normal request. He was also strange. Yup, the man was strange.

"Beef chow Mein then." Nina replied, there was no way she was going to eat pie in front of him. That always left a mess on her corners of her lips.

Beef Chow Mein was nice though. Yum. Nina tried not to salivate thinking about freshly made noodles, slightly greased in soy sauce and flavourings with sliced broccoli, carrots, bean sprouts, mushrooms and beef. Topped with fresh spring onions and sesame seed. All served nicely in a Chinese box with chopsticks.

Ah, life's pleasures.

"Beef Chow Mein it is then." Jin said. "Served with fortune cookies on the side."

For a split second she swears she sees a ghost of a smirk on his lips before he pressed a button and ordered lunch for them both.

"I've never had Beef Chow Mein before." Jin admitted. "I've been raised mostly with a vegetarian diet."

Oh you are missing out.

Nina raised a brow. Why was he sharing this information with her?

"This isn't a bribe or anything?" Nina asked him. The request was so odd. None of her clients ever asked her to dine with them.

Jin was above such things but since the blonde didn't know him, he'd have to make it clear because he wasn't interested in having a flaky bodyguard. He needed her to put a 100% in her work because what he was about to do was unusual.

"No, it's not a bribe." Jin said convincingly in the most polite manner ever that he noticed her blue eyes soften for a second. His heart fluttered.

Was there...something more to this ice cold woman? Was she capable of feelings?

His mother taught him good manners always earned the trust of people. He wanted to help her get used to being in his presence because his goal was so important. If they could normalize sharing lunch together, then her concern over his wellbeing would be a natural instinct. If she did have feelings, it would be a piece of cake to get her to warm up.

From reading Nina's files, Jin learnt that she was meant to be a strict professional who completed most of her jobs. Her track record was impressive.

"If it's not a bribe then it's very strange you're inviting me to lunch considering we are strangers to each other." She explained, wondering if she could last at least one hour in his presence that seemed to test her self-control.

"Can't strangers eat together?" Jin asked innocently.

If she just embraced that energy between them, things would be easier for her.

"I suppose so." Nina shrugged. "But I don't slurp noodles so don't expect me to carry out that Japanese tradition."

"It's a stupid tradition." He replied candidly. "But don't worry, we'll have none of that up here. I'm also a silent eater."

She smiled. "We'll see about that."

Their eyes met across the desk. Perhaps working so closely with Kazama wouldn't be a bad thing after all.
