Chapter Four

Jin requested her early in the morning and she met him at his office with breakfast all spread on his desk. There was fluffy pancakes and scent made her mouth water. Jin hadn't touched it yet. He waited for her?
He was dressed in his white with the black swirls and her eyes fell to the ample amount of man cleavage he was showing. He seemed so relaxed as if he were mediating. There was some serenity to his face which made him look handsome. She had a strange urge to kiss him but shrugged off the thought.
"That's so polite of you, sir." Nina commented, eying up the food as she sat in front of his desk. "What is the occasion?"
"There isn't one."
"Then I'm starting to think you're trying to seduce me."
Mischief glimmered in his dark eyes. "So you'd think I'd know how to seduce?"
She was slightly taken back by his reply and shrugs. So Kazama knew how to flirt somewhat. She heard rumors that he was a loner and an antisocial one at that with no social skills to save his life. But the memory she had of him had a different story.
Life was full of surprises. Well since there were free warm fluffy pancakes, she wasn't going to complain. They tuck in breakfast before it went cold.
"I wanted to give you a gift." Jin said, handing her a file with the title NT01 on it.
There was files of many experiments undertaken by Mishima labs and he managed to find more on Nina. Figuring she'd be eager to know more about it, out of the goodness of his heart he wanted to help her. It might have been a spontaneous act but it a treat to see Nina smile a little when she took the file and read it with interest. He was hoping she'd do that instead of not wanting to know. She left him alone to read it and would reunite with him later this evening in the party.
Once she was alone in her quarters, Nina got busy reading every page.
STEVE FOX / NT01
MOTHER: Anna Williams
FATHER: Kazuya Mishima
DETAILS: Born to Anna Williams (conceived naturally). After birth, the mother was put into cold sleep and several tests was conducted on the child.
Child has been abandoned after age of ten, put into the UK foster care. On the request of Anna Williams, Nina Williams will received a fake report to protect the true identity of the child. NT01/Steve Fox is now listed as the son of Nina Williams.
-Dr Bosconovitch
Kazuya was not the father of that clearly Caucasian man. This file was wrong. A little part of her was relieved Anna was the mother instead of her. But if the father was listed wrong then perhaps it was also wrong that her sister was the boxer's mother.
She suspected foul play and maybe she'd have to pay Anna Williams a visit soon.
Anna you minx, Nina thought after closing the file. What are you playing at?
The perks of being employed by Jin meant that Nina could track whoever she wanted to track down. She found Anna's apartment in the Roppongi distract. A fancy high rise glass building that screamed luxury. Nina didn't need keys to get into Anna's apartment. Her lockpicking skills did the trick.
She found her sister between his legs, a head full of red hair bobbing up and down at Kazuya groin area. Bile rose up.
Nina looked away and hissed so sharply to interrupt them. She didn't care if Kazuya orgasmed or not. It was insulting that her own sister was using her tongue to coax a Mishima to cum.
She heard Kazuya mutter in Japanese while he groaned in pleasure. Nina grimaced and folded her arms. She looked again to make sure they were done.
Anna gave him one last lick before removing her mouth from him. She grabbed a napkin from the bed and wiped the corner of her lips. Nina averted her eyes from Kazuya's glistening crotch and gave him privacy to pull his pants back up. She was annoyed that whatever Kazuya had done to her, Anna still treated him as a friend. Fucking traitor.
"You can look now. It's not like you shied away by looking at my cock." Kazuya told her.
"Shut the fuck up." Nina snapped.
"Easy now sister." Anna stood up with a devilish smirk. "It was fun. Maybe you should try it too."
"I'm not putting my mouth where your mouth has been bitch." Nina retorts, rolling her eyes.
"I sure know so." Anna giggles. "You've not had a man in like….forever. Those toys keeping you satisfied?"
Kazuya huffed in amusement. If it where anyone else, Nina wouldn't give a shit but Anna always somehow always gotten under her skin.
"I don't have toys."
"Whatever you say."
Nina pointed at Kazuya. "You get the fuck out."
"Hmpf." Kazuya folded his arms and sat on the bed in defiance. Asshole.
Nina glared at him.
"He stays." Anna told Nina. "Whatever you have to say to me, say it in front of him too."
"Right, because I'm pretty sure you want him to hear about file NT01." Nina scoffed.
Anna's eyes flicker in shock. "Ummm what?"
"You know what I'm talking about bitch."
"Nina please!"
The blonde folds her arms and smirks. So the bitch did care about Steve.
"What's NT01?" Kazuya asked, curious.
Ignoring him, Nina watches Anna. "So…what is your call?"
Anna looked helplessly at Kazuya. He got up with a huff and Nina is alarmed at the understanding between the two. Just how close were they?
"Whatever. I'm not interested in sister squabbles anyway." He muttered on his way out. Anna decides to follow him and Nina waits. She had her gun with her and wasn't afraid to shoot a couple of buttocks if she had to.
Once Anna is back, it meant that Kazuya was no longer around and the sisters had the privacy to discuss the issue of Steve Fox.
"Steve Fox is your son?"
"How did you find out?!"
"That doesn't matter."
"I never thought you'd want to find out anything more about the experiment."
"You gave birth and let them use your own kid as a test subject before throwing the poor child to foster care in another country. And to think you called me the heartless one." Nina spat.
She was so disappointed by Anna. Someone who gave no craps about their own kid made her blood boil. She couldn't imagine her father doing that to them what Anna did to poor Steve.
"If he was your kid, what would you do?"
Nina doesn't know how to answer that without proving Anna's point about her being cold. She thought Steve was her own son and forced herself to not care about him. She held her rifle back from killing him, unable to slaughter her own blood. To stop herself from becoming weak, she didn't forge a bond with the blonde man.
"You care about Steve?" Anna asked softly.
"He's not mine to care about."
"What if he was?"
"Stop it." Nina warned. "The fact is that he's not mine."
"Right." Anna nods, looking a little defeated and frustrated.
"Kazuya isn't that man's father. Why lie?"
"I thought it looked cool having him listed as my boy's father." Anna shrugs. "It sounded better than the real fathers' name anyway."
Nina took a step forward to her sister and faked a smile. Anna smiled back too and Nina lifted a hand before slapping the woman hard.
Thwak!
"Ow! What was that for?!"
"For playing mind games with me. For making me believe Steve was my son." Nina seethed. "You put me through so much hell, dad would roll over in his grave."
"Shut up. Don't drag dad into this!" Anna snapped, rubbing her cheek.
"I can't even look at you Anna." Nina hissed. "We were once close. What the hell did you turn out as?"
"I can say the same to you sister and besides, I'm going to get back at you what you did to me in the last tournament."
"I beat you. I won. Fair and square." Nina reminded her. "Now between us, there is nothing."
"Not unless I win, I will keep at it sister. You won't escape me." Anna promised.
The air was thick and filled with tension. Nina couldn't breathe in it so she saw herself out. Left before Anna could break her down, before thoughts of the poor Williams' kid consumed her thoughts.
Upon returning to headquarters, Nina passed the front desk on her way to the elevator. The secretary shot her a glare. Jin's secretary. The one who also heavily dolled up and wore jewels like she was a model. The woman gave off serious Gold Digger vibes.
"A problem?" Nina asked stopping for a moment.
She pursed her lips at her. The minx.
"No not a problem but you want to watch it with the heel slapping. It's distracting, honey." She said sarcastically.
Nina slapped her heels against the ground. "You mean like this?"
The secretary rolled her eyes. "How on earth does he keep a rude woman like you around I don't know. If you also try to snitch on me, it'll make you a Karen. Are you a Karen?" She challenged.
"You're no threat." Nina rolled her eyes and turned to the elevator. She wasn't even going to give this lady the satisfaction of a cat fight. One bitch was enough to deal with for a day.
"I should be his bodygaurd. You should trade places with me."
"Not my fault if you lack the necessary qualifications for my role. Besides, sitting behind a desk all day looking nice for strangers isn't my thing."
"You have my respect. Respect peppered with hate. Hateful respect." She said sarcastically. "Just remember. I could poison your tea."
"Just remember, I could throw the tea down your throat in front of the boss and he won't stop me."
The woman behind the desk huffed. The elevator door opened and Nina clacked the heels against the floor as she entered and smirked.
Hateful respect. Ha.
The party was in full swing tonight and with many businesspeople flocking to the scene, Nina had to look the part. She was Jin's righthand woman but she had to appear as another associate. Figuring out what to dress and how her makeup should be done took her mind off the Steve situation for a while. She also checked on security a few times just to ensure Jin's safety.
Nina was still slightly troubled about the whole situation. Finding Jin gawking at her while she stepped into the royal room dressed in a long gown, made her smile. She grabbed a drink and they walked towards each other, meeting in the middle.
"I thought you wouldn't turn up." Jin confessed like a shy schoolboy.
Nina takes a sip of her drink before answering. "I had some business to take care of first but I guess being late is better than never showing up."
"You missed the boring businessman conversation." Jin said quietly, swirling his own drink. "You could have saved me from it." He accused lightly.
"How could I have saved you from that, Mr Kazama?" Nina teased, eager to hear his answer.
"By dancing with me."
His voice is so quiet that she had to lean in closer. Once she realized what he had said, she smirked.
"And do you know how to dance?" Her voice is sultry.
He watched as she finishes her drink and he does the same. "I don't know how to dance." He admitted. "I was hoping you could teach me, Miss Williams."
"Right now? In front of everyone?"
"See that chandelier?" Jin asked, point at the hanging crystals. "I told people that was my spot to dance so they'd steer clear of that space beneath it."
"Dancing in one spot is impossible." Nina frowned. "You really never danced in your life have you?"
"I'm sure there are things you've never done in your life before." Jin replied in a serious tone. "Like destroy an Ogre."
"Okay okay, you've made your point." Nina chuckled, looking at the chandelier and then at the space underneath it. Jin was right. No one was dancing under that spot. His word was law around here. That power he had. Her heart thumped a little at the realization.
"Good to know."
"Let's go then."
"Where?"
"To dance."
When their hands touched for the first time, Jin felt something awaken him. The warmth of the blonde's hand and her heartbeat did something strange to him. He didn't dwell on it for long as he was trying to keep up with her while she led.
"Don't step on my toes." She warned lightly.
He heeded her warning.
So they danced, slowly and carefully. His arm around her back and her other hand on his shoulder. This wasn't like fighting where he'd exchanged punches and kicks. Her perfume tickled his nose. Up close, Jin noticed that she was rather lovely. Her eyes were a strange shade of blue, like a gemstone unearthed in ice. Nina's face looked soft to touch.
He wondered if anyone else got close enough to see this sort of beauty of hers. Her lips were plush and pink. A lovely shape. He wondered how it would feel against his own lips. It wouldn't be like the first time she kissed him, two years back when he stopped her from falling in the river. When she kissed him on the cheek a few weeks ago, he felt it tingle his entire nerves.
"Hmmm, you smell nice." Nina breathed out, slightly leaning towards his neck.
He smirked. "Are you sure that's not your own perfume?"
"I can tell the difference between parfum and cologne." Nina said sultrily. "...and thanks."
"You're welcome."
Once they had a few dances, Nina was feeling more thirsty so Jin accompanied her to the bar. He looked at the chandelier and remembered the next step of his plan. A plan that Nina had no idea about. Jin answered his call discretely. He caught a sight of pigtails storming their way into the building, once the girl stepped under the chandelier, darkness fell over the entire room.
The sound of a knife sinking into a body whispers ever so slightly, followed out by a girlish cry. A bold assassination attempt, no doubt Nina thought. Right on the dancefloor in the dark. But how did this past through under her nose? It isn't long until the rancid stench of blood hits the area and Nina grimaced, forcing herself to block out that smell. Jin on the other hand, didn't have that skill to block it out. It haunted him.
Once the light switched back on, there was a girl in orange holding her side. The stain of blood spread under her hand. People moved out of the way in gasps and screams watching the pigtail haired girl drop to the ground, all bloody and weak. Nina's eyes searched immediately to any potential suspects. To anyone with a tainted knife. It's then she noticed that the area where the girl fell was right underneath the chandelier.
That non fatal stab he ordered for Xiaoyu had done it's job.
Jin felt very little guilt. Xiaoyu would always have a scar to look back on. This was the price one had to pay for prying into his business, for believing they had a hold on him and…that he was attainable. She was a bothersome little sister figure. That's all she ever was.
They might have been friends once but that was a long time ago. He imagined Xiaoyu weak and brittle hooked upto machines on the hospital bed. She'd wake up disheartened. Now she'd realize he was no friend of hers and would never be. He hoped she hated him.
"You'll wash your hands clean," the devil drawled, smirking like a cat in his mind. "Of that lie of a life."
A tap on the door seized his attention. It was his blonde bodyguard. The one who was unaware of what he'd just done. Perhaps it was better that way.
Nodding in response to her, he keeps quiet until she walks in and shuts his door.
"Security was tight so no killers should have gotten in." Nina said without preamble, as if it was bothering her.
Jin was surprised. Her reputation painted her as a cold hearted killer. Her being worried about this incident was…unexpected.
"Accidents happen." He said nonchantly. "It's not your fault and not your headache. I'm fine."
She inhaled sharply. "It could have been you."
"Well it wasn't." Jin retorted, feeling slightly anxious that she was dragging the matter.
"That girl wasn't on the guest list." Nina revealed. "She wasn't supposed to be at the party but someone knew she was coming."
Jin didn't say anything and waited for Nina to continue.
"She snuck in to which means either the security team is incompetent or that someone let her sneak in. And the assassin too."
Damn, this woman was too smart for her own good. He felt more reassured than ever that he had hired the best, however now he had to remain calm and not let her feel threatened by him.
Nina eyed Jin who was sitting stiffly in his chair. He looked anywhere but at her. Not one to reach to conclusions, she wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt but the thought of him luring in a prey like that startled her. She never thought the youngest Mishima could be capable of such a twisted feat.
However before concluding that Jin was the one who ordered the hit, she needed to hear it from his own lips.
"Was she a friend?" Nina asked him.
Jin closes his eyes. It takes him a long moment to answer. "No. I wouldn't hurt a friend."
When Nina didn't say anything, he decides to steer the conversation to a safer place, where he wasn't a target of any scrutiny.
"Do you feel upset that a teenage schoolgirl got hurt?"
So he didn't want to kill her, just to warn her, Nina surmised, a little amused at that.
She shrugged, "Just felt a little pity for her."
Jin smirked and open his eyes. He finally meets Nina's gaze. He couldn't read her quite yet.
"You don't have to worry. I won't hurt you. I have promised you that."
Nina folds her arms.
"I'm sure you promised her once you wouldn't hurt her."
"Don't be so quick to assume that."
He wasn't like her previous employers and while she was sure there was more to him, she was uncomfortable and wondered if she made a mistake not rejecting this assignment. She thought it would be smooth sailing. Working for this Kazama guy who was inexperienced and wouldn't know how to hurt anyone. More than the girl being hurt, Nina was bothered that Jin didn't tell her about it. Would she willingly stab some poor schoolkid on his behest? It wasn't a bodygaurd's duty. Did he think she wouldn't stab that Chinese girl?
"I would have stabbed her if you asked." Nina let him know.
"I wouldn't want that on your conscience."
She didn't know what he meant by that but she wasn't in a mood to argue about ethics. All she knew now was that he tried to keep a secret from her and what surprised her more was her baffled reaction to it.
"You are disappointed that I didn't tell you about it." Jin's voice floats through the room.
"I'm not." Nina lied, "Just surprised that's all. Anyway, it's late and I have to hit the pillow." She looked at her watch. It was nearing midnight.
"Hit the pillow?" Jin asked in confusion. He'd never heard of that expression before.
"Going to bed. That's what it means."
She turned away, ready to leave but Jin called out to her to wait. Those piercing blue eyes look at him again.
"Who do you think I am?"
"An enigma." She admitted. "I guess you're in charge of how I see you."
With that, her heels clattered away and the room fell into utter silence. With her absence, Jin now fell ill at unease. They were making a little progress until now. Realization then slowly creeps in.
He did not want Nina to see him as evil.
