...
Izuku watched as Stain stalked the Underground Hero Kage. Briefly, he considered getting Noise involved. Noise was a semi-retired vigilante who was close to Kage. The two worked well together and had put aside their differences long before Izuku and his crew became vigilantes.
Already he had sent a message to a few heroes he knew. Those that would put aside their mistrust of a vigilante to help one of their own. If they could make it in time. He didn't know about their patrol routes as they chose their own. Joys of working with Undergrounds.
A part of him considered calling in Eraserhead. But he tossed it immediately. The man had his own issues and he really didn't want to owe him a favor. After all, Clover always paid his debts and they knew it.
He was overstepping his quirk use to its very limits. Screen-like videos and chats only able to be seen by Izuku were in front of him. There were dozens of them and he could barely keep a hold on it.
Hatsume said working on her computer, "Izuku you should take a break. If you keep pushing your body it's going to collapse."
Izuku replied through gritted teeth, "Not until we have Kage safely home. Until then I can hold on."
If the detective was here, his quirk would no doubt be telling him that was a lie. Izuku's hold on his quirk was barely there and if he waived it would collapse. So he stood strong and directed those that connected with him to his server. Heroes and to his surprise police. Specifically, police who worked with Tsukauchi.
Normally their comms would be separated by agency. However, thanks to Izuku's quirk all the comms were connected allowing free communication between all groups. Something warm ran from his nose but he ignored it.
Hatsume worked to stabilize the connection. Her computer systems could hold it if he went down. He hoped.
On one screen he saw Shinsou and Kavar arrive. He knew they would. Despite his orders to stay behind, they would never allow a hero to die. Not in their city. Not on their watch.
Izuku wanted to leap through the screen and shake them. They were not ready for this kind of fight. Fighting low-level villains was nothing compared to the Hero Killer. All he could do was grit his teeth and watch.
Mei glanced at him worry was clear in her eyes. She could see the strain his constant quirk use was taking. Currently, he was holding onto the desk that held her computer. It was the only thing keeping him on his feet. Even as he smelled the metal scent of blood and the feeling of a warm liquid running out of his nose. Blood if he had to guess.
He watched as Shinsou tried to get Stain to answer him. Anything to get his quirk to activate. Kavar had picked Kage up under the armpits and retreat. He took the hero out of the alley and towards safety. Shinsou blocked strikes that were meant to maim the other vigilante. He struggled to push back the villain as the man's strength was several times stronger.
Izuku had to bite his lip to keep from crying out as Stain's sword tore through Shinsou's shoulder. That ended his ability to standby and watch. Izuku disengaged his quirk and stumbled towards where they kept his vigilante jacket.
Pulling off his civilian shirts he pulled on a black t-shirt and it was followed by the jacket. The jacket was padded in the sides with metal too but not in the shoulder. It was why Stain's sword was able to tear through Shinsou's shoulder. Dark gloves were pulled on and the leather flexed to test his ability to use his dexterity. His utility belt was next. He exchanged his smoke bombs were exchanged for flashbacks and small explosives. Knives were then hidden in his jacket and different hideyholes he had made over the years.
Mei came up to him and said, "You can't go out there. We need you here!"
Izuku ran a hand across his face smearing the blood across the back of his gloves. Then he said, "I can't just stand here and do nothing. I am a vigilante and my place is with my friends. Contact Eraserhead and Tsukauchi, Mei. We will hold Stain off for as long as we can."
Turning he moved towards the exit. No guarantee that he would come back. No guarantee that any of them would come back. All he could do was what he felt was right.
"Don't go," whispered Mei so that he barely heard her.
He hesitated but steeled himself, "I have to. Call Noise."
And like that he was gone.
...
Hitoshi's shoulder was screaming at him as he lay on the ground. No matter what he did his body would not obey him. Stain's quirk was a paralyzing one that required the ingestion of blood. In the eyes of most citizens, it was a villainous quirk just like his brainwashing. No wonder why the villain started out as a vigilante.
That information wasn't well known outside of the underground. The Commission had tried to bury it and had done a decent job. But there were those who didn't forget their once protector. At one time Hitoshi had admired the other. It was why he had learned to fight with knives.
Kavar had successfully moved Kage out of the fight. Stain had fought him like a rabid dog trying to get to the two escaping. It was in his distraction that Stain had torn through his shoulder. The one place that did not have protective armor sewn into it.
Hitoshi kept trying to rile up the villain being able to move or not. He hoped that he could get him to answer. Answer so he could activate his quirk. The man must have some idea of what his quirk was for he didn't answer. Instead, he monologed as he stalked closer to Hitoshi. His sword was brought up as if to strike him. Purple eyes glared not willing to show fear as he faced down his possible death.
Only for a body to slam into Stain sending him stumbling back a few steps. In his hand was a knife and the blue stripes down his jacket named him Kavar.
Hitoshi shouted, "Shield get out of here! You need to get Kage to safety while you can."
Kavar glanced at him before he said, "There is a time limit on Stain's quirk. Kage was able to move and he insisted I come back. I'm not Clover but if I had to guess it is likely based on blood type. Different types have different time limits. Did I get that right Stain?"
"You should have just run," growled the man, "I have no qualms with vigilantes however you got in my way."
"No qualms?" Asked Kavar incredulously, "You've killed vigilantes before all for not following your code. Despite the fact that all vigilantes have their own reasons for what they do. You know this! You were a vigilante once! Until you started killing heroes. And that is something we can't stand by. Not when they are good heroes like Kage!"
Kavar...
"Then you shall die in the place of the hero you sought to save."
