Chapter 8: Escape, Help And Free?
-After Two And A Half Months With Ray-
Charlie had covered their tracks well and even the public had come to know about the situation. Police and specially the child protection services were criticised for allowing this to happen. Who knows what had happened the last two months and time was literally running out. Kai might go to labor any day now, week or two at most. Ray and others had also tried to find them too but no success. White Tigers, Tao, Max's mother and All Starz had also come to Japan to help. All Starz were surprised to hear about Kai being a girl but Ray cleared it out for them this time. They could trust them to keep quiet about carriers and they understood it promising to keep quiet.
'Why is it so hard to find them?! Like seriously!' Tyson complained and dropped on his back on the floor.
'I don't know but it shouldn't be surprising. We couldn't even find them in China when they were there,' Lee stated. They also felt guilt for allowing them to come Japan in the first place but Ray pulled them out of it. They only had to find Kai and Kiara first.
'We just need some glue where they might be,' Ray sighed and pressed his hands together like he was praying.
'It's going to be miracle at this point if you ask me,' Michael stated quietly but Ray had heard him. Some way Ray agreed with Michael but there still was a small hope, even if it must be a miracle.
-With Kai-
He was barely able to walk again, just like last time. Even though this was his… second pregnancy… he wasn't used to walking with so big stomach. Kai looked at the door again and gritted his teeth. He knew he didn't have much time anymore and had to get out. Mark hadn't touched him badly, only kissed and stroked him, which Kai hated.
At the moment he was in the house with his captors and Kiara. He had heard many times Charlie hitting Kiara many times when she didn't do what Charlie wanted. And that pissed Kai the most and was wrecking his brain for some kind of plan. He wasn't allowed out of this room at all but Charlie had given him clothes. Apparently Kai looked disgusting in his eyes. He was wearing a white t-shirt and loose pants. Kai's head snapped again towards the door when he heard Charlie slap Kiara again.
'Fucking brat! Don't do that!' Charlie shouted and Mark just laughed. Kai couldn't take it anymore. He slowly stood up biting his lip and sneaked to the door. Kai stood there nervously and shaking since he knew he couldn't run like this. There had to be away to knock Charlie and Mark out cold, at least for a moment. His phone had run out of battery too which meant calling for help was out of the question.
Kai had to hold himself back while opening the door painfully slow as Kiara continued crying. He managed to open the door and could see Mark and Charlie having their backs towards him. Kai gulped and looked down and prayed that wooden floor wouldn't make noises. Kai grabbed a metal fireplace stick and decided to try knock Mark out first since he mostly was closer and Charlie was kneeling down.
He could feel a small pain in his stomach and could only guess that the mark caused it too or something, like it knew he was about to hurt his "mate". The moment Mark chuckled again Kai swung the weapon he had, fast. Thanks to Mark taking amusement of Charlie he didn't notice it. The stick hit hard enough on Mark's neck in an ankle that he stumbled side ways and hit his head again on the small table next to the wall.
'You…' Charlie managed to turn around before Kai hit him too in front this time. Kai decided to add a kick on the Charlie's head and that knocked Charlie out too.
'Mama,' Kiara had learned to speak a while ago. Kai didn't know where she knew the word, probably Charlie trying to tell her call him mama but Kiara knew who her mother really was. It brought tears into Kai's eyes and he didn't stop them before grabbing Kiara from the floor.
'Ngh! Shit,' Kai almost dropped on his knees as Kiara pressed on his stomach, but he ignored it. Without caring he didn't have shoes or socks on he ran to the door but it was locked. Kai looked around quickly and spotted the keys on the table. With shaky hands he unlocked the door and dashed outside while Mark and Charlie were still out, but how long he didn't know.
The sun was up and Kai tried to run to whatever direction. He decided to go left from the door since he recalled the first time he came here. They came from that direction by car. Kai's feet were already bloody from the rock and other sharp objects from the ground as he continued forward probably around ten minutes.
Kai could see some houses near the road he was walking but he had no idea where he was yet. Nothing looked familiar but he had to find some safety and soon. It wouldn't be long anymore before the assholes would wake up. Kai knew the best place to be safe would with someone else because of the claim mark. Kai continued his pace ten more minutes before he dropped down and hugged his midsection in pain.
'Mama,' Kiara was almost crying and Kai calmed her down while standing up, when he felt the mark heat up.
'Mark must be awake! Shit!' Kai thought as he looked around to find someone or something to keep himself and Kiara safe. First thing first was to get off the road. Kai hissed from the pain under his feet and pushed past the bushes as he moved as fast as he could, but he could feel Mark right behind him.
'Mom! I'm hungry!'
Kai heard someone yell and it was close. After few meters he saw another cottage and there was a family outside too. Kai hit himself since he didn't realize this place was mostly cottages for vacation time. A branch snapping him out of his thoughts and without a second thought Kai stepped forward.
One of the kids screamed as Kai appeared and the parents were shocked as well. They watched Kai come closer while glancing behind him few times.
'Hey! What happened? Who are you?' man asked quickly as he run up to him after seeing a small child, 'Wait… You're Kai Hiwatari, right?' man realized after seeing Kai's stomach.
Kai ignored the fact the man knew him all the way around here and just nodded, 'Can you hide us? Or at least Kiara? They must be close,' Kai asked.
Man quickly nodded and grabbed Kai's arm leading him towards the house.
'Honey and kids. Go inside too,' man ordered and tiredly Kai followed the woman inside. Man even grabbed a handgun before going back outside and closed the door. Woman lead Kai to the sofa to sit down and went to get first-aid kit for Kai's feet and other bruises on his face. Two kids just watched him curiously as their mother came back.
Kai just kept Kiara close and allowed the woman to touch his feet as she cleaned them.
'What's going on mom?' one of the kids asked.
'This person here along with his child was kidnapped two months ago,' mother answered carefully and glanced at Kai who was just hugging Kiara.
'He's pregnant too. Men can't do that, can they?' kid asked.
'It's because he's actually a girl but wants to be a boy,' kid's sibling answered instead and Kai grunted annoyed.
'Kids. We don't need to worry about that. Okay?' woman said after noticing Kai's reaction and kids nodded. They were quiet when they heard yelling outside. Three voices, the man, Mark and even Charlie was there. Kai was right. They had been right behind him.
Kai turned his eyes towards the woman when he felt a hand on his shoulder. 'Is it them?' woman asked and Kai just nodded. Woman simply grabbed the phone from the table and dialled the police as shouting increased outside. Kai glanced at the door as he listened to the shouting.
'It's just me and my family here! What's out what you're saying!' man yelled.
'Don't lie to me. You're hiding my mate and child in there!' Mark shouted back. Kai wondered why Mark didn't stay away and try grab him later or something. He had totally lost it and Charlie wasn't any better.
'Not to forget my girl. Back of before someone gets hurt!' Charlie added. Man realized hiding the fact was no use but he wasn't going to allow them inside his house.
'Since when? According to the news you're not the parent of the child and tried to take her by force in China. A parent doesn't do that! And you kid are no better by forcing yourself on him! What I see is kidnapping situation and you need to be stopped,' man continued. It was clear neither Charlie or Mark liked that and it got quickly out of the hand. Woman was spelling everything happening outside and in matter of minutes they could hear fighting which ended quickly as they heard two gunshots. No one moved inside and watched the door open and saw man walk back in with bloody nose and lip.
'Is the police coming?' man asked and woman nodded. Next Kai watched man kneel in front of him with a calming smile.
'They won't bother you anymore. I didn't want to sort into this…' man noted the gun in his hand, 'But they were almost at the door after punching me.'
'They're… dead?' Kai mumbled and man shook his head.
'I'm not sure. I just aimed without taking aim and they did fall down', man said. Kai just turned his eyes away as man told the kids to keep inside and not look outside for a while and they decided to wait for the police. Man was waiting at the door while keeping his eyes at the two people laying on the ground outside near the door.
-With Ray And Others-
'Where is he?' Ray asked from the nurse at the counter, 'Kai Hiwatari! Where is he?'
'He's at the room 304. He has some visitors already,' nurse said as Ray thanked the nurse. They headed towards Kai's room and inside they saw Dickenson, Ria and police officers. Kai was leaning against the pillow in sitting position and holding Kiara in his hands. Kiara herself was sleeping soundly under the blanket too.
'Ray…' Kai gave a small smile as Ray stepped closer and gave him a small kiss on the forehead right away.
'I'm sorry I broke my promise,' Ray said and Kai touched his hand.
'It's not your fault,' Kai stated as Tyson and the rest gave him a hug themselves.
'What happened? You managed to escape?' Ray asked as he sat on the bed next to Kai's legs.
'He did and managed to find a nearby house with people inside. They then hid him and stopped Charlie and Mark doing anything else. After that police arrived at the scene and brought your friend here. As another update we sent a patrol to the house he was kept in and they are collecting evidence. We don't have anything else for now,' police answered instead.
'What about Charlie and Mark?' Ray asked with clear hatred in his tone.
'There was a fight between those and the owner of the house. Man had to defend himself and your friend, so he shot Charlie and Mark. And now, Charlie passed away at the scene and Mark is holding on his life for now but according to the doctor there is a chance he might not make it. If he does, he faces severe charges of part of kidnapping, past rape and sexual assault,' officer informed before leaving the room.
'Did Mark touch you again?' Ray grabbed Kai's hand and then noticed bite marks around Kai's neck and other bruises.
'Just what you see and kissing. He apparently wanted to wait for baby to be born before… you know,' Kai answered quietly.
'Speaking of… How are you?' Tyson asked and Kai glanced down his stomach.
'I don't know. Doctors took tests but I'm fine. Baby is not kicking much but still moving,' Kai said. He might as well answer their questions now then later. Others nodded and didn't want to pursue the issue for now.
Ray turned to Ria, 'What now? The adoption is clearly off! Does Kai have to go back to the orphanage?'
'I'm afraid so. Before you ask, I did try speaking with my boss and other superiors to let your friend stay with you since you clearly care for him and he can take care of himself but there are still laws. But I managed to make it the way that Kai, Kiara nor the baby can't be adopted,' Ria explained.
'Huh?' everyone was puzzled.
'In other words Kai has to back there but only for two years until his 18. At the same time his children can and will stay with him. Since after two years he is considered an adult and he has shown he can take care of them. And I'm sure you will help along with your parents,' Ria tried to explain.
'Do you mean that no one can adopt them and he won't lose Kiara either?' Tyson asked excited and Ria nodded. It was like heavy weight was pulled off their shoulders. Who knows what laws Ria had to stretch to make it happen. Just then doctor came in with some papers.
'Well boys, I have good news. Kai and the baby are fine. Little stress did cause some pain but not any problems. He can leave the hospital for now. I suspect we see Kai back here in due time,' doctor stated.
'When he comes out, right?' Kai stated mostly to himself. His nine months were almost up. Ray touched Kai's shoulder with a calming smile.
'We will be here for you and hopefully the orphanage won't be that bad now that nothing is hidden at the moment,' Ray said.
'You mean Ren and his group. I wonder what they will record next,' Kai chuckled a little. They would probably tease him about being back there but it was well-known that who the adopted them. But Hanna was the one he couldn't handle but what could he do about her religion believes.
'It's only two years and this time, we will visit you often,' Tyson promised and Max nodded.
'One thing Kai, do you want to raise the baby as well?' Ray decided to ask. He wanted to be sure what Kai wanted himself.
'Yeah. Who else? He might look like Mark but that can't be helped. I have thought about it a lot already,' Kai answered firmly.
'With luck he looks more like you like Kiara resembles Ray more,' Tyson giggled and Kai poked him as response.
'Looks like it's clear then and Kai…' Ria began and Kai turned to her, 'I'm sorry once again. I should have checked them more better before sending you or Kiara to them.'
'Just forget it,' Kai mumbled and Ria smiled before she left. They were quiet a while when Tyson spoke his thoughts out.
'Is it just me that I want Mark to hit the dust?' Tyson asked, 'It might be even the answer for that mark?' Tyson added but it was mostly a question.
'You're not,' Ray said and lightly stroked Kiara's head as she slept. Kai had barely escaped them now but who knows what would happen later? Ray had wanted to tell Charlie what he thought about him but he had kicked the bucket already but he wouldn't bother them anymore. Mark was the actual problem here, bigger one.
'Tyson. Stay with Kai. I'll be right back,' Ray said before turning to the door. Everyone gazed at his back puzzled as he left. Ray walked to the hospitals other end and from there found Mark's room that was guarded with police officers. The room didn't have a window either from obvious reasons.
Ray stopped in front of the officers with stern look, 'Could I see him for a moment? One of you can be in the room as well if it's needed.'
Officer just opened the door and let Ray go in on his own. Ray could see wires handing from Mark as he walked closer but something told him he wasn't sleeping.
'Wake up. You're bad at fake sleeping,' Ray crossed his arms and small smirk appeared on Mark's face.
'Worth to try but can't fool a cat,' Mark opened his eyes but Ray noticed a dead look in them. It was like he wasn't here entirely.
'Why are you here?' Mark asked without emotions in his voice or on his face.
'I would like to ask you the same thing. Why did you do this? That desperate for a child or did Charlie tell you to do this? He was spying on us for years,' Ray asked.
'I don't even remember anymore. Only that our elder ordered me to do it at first but then it became obsession. To see a desperate but a fighting expression. To see someone as strong as him crumple. But after you had left China… I felt empty,' Mark explained strangely openly.
'Your "mate" wasn't with you. That's the emptiness you know,' Ray growled.
'I thought to too but I think it wasn't entirely that. But who knows? Was I missing the love from the parent myself and wanted to have my own child or did I just lose it at the end. I don't know…' Mark's voice quieted down.
'You…' Ray stared at Mark frowning. They did know Charlie was Mark's mother but Charlie had always been at their village. Maybe… Mark wasn't too far off here.
'Ray… I hated your clan for a long time… But your morals are better… I guess I'm going to give Kai back to you… in a way…' Mark whispered before closing his eyes. Ray's eyes widened as the heart machine flat lined and doctors rushed in. Without thinking he dashed back to Kai and just managed to hear a scream from his room before opening the door again. Kai was holding the side of his neck tightly.
'Kai! What is it?!' Tyson yelled loudly and even Kiara woke up and started to cry.
'Kai? Let me see your neck!' Ray pulled Kai's hand off as Tyson took Kiara from Kai's hand. Everyone's eyes widened when they saw a pale neck.
'It's… gone. The claim mark is gone!' Ray couldn't stop his tears from flowing and Kai touched his neck over and over again. He couldn't believe it.
'Did Mark die? It has to be that,' Max asked and Ray nodded. He decided to tell them what he talked about with Mark at the end.
'He's one puzzling bastard but I won't forgive him,' Kai stated angrily and took Kiara back to his hands from Tyson. Others couldn't agree more with him. But like Ray they were happy too that the mark was gone. Everything might not be back to normal but it was getting better, but Kai was worried about the rest of the day. He had to go back to the orphanage but Tyson and others had promised to accompany him today as his stuff would be brought back there from the house.
'I'm going to punch this Ren if he even opens his mouth,' Tyson declared proudly and Kai shook his with a smirk and others laughed.
I hope things didn't move too fast there but there is little bit of story left still.
