Annabeth had been here for two weeks now, and Percy couldn't remember his life without her. The way she fit in so easily, it was amazing to Percy. He would've never imagined a celebrity to be this humble, and fun to hang out with.
The only issue is, everyone else thought so too. He watched defeatedly as tens of boys approached her daily, trying to make a move. She would always politely decline, but that didn't mean Percy wasn't still incredibly jealous.
It only got worse at the announcement of the dance this Friday.
'Whats the end of September bash?'
All eyes shot to Annabeth and Leo grinned at the girl.
'Its the school tradition. We have an annual dance every September, just to celebrate everyone settling in again. It's usually pretty fun.'
Annabeth nodded in understanding, staring off into the distance.
'Ive never been to a dance before.'
Everyone looked at her in shock. It made sense, Percy thought, because she had been homeschooled since she was famous. I doubt her mom had her dancing alone round the kitchen.
Percy smiled softly at the girl from where he was sat next to her.
'Well, we'll have to make this one super good then.'
She grinned back at him.
Despite his earlier statement, he couldn't work up the courage to ask her. He watched as a few boys approached her, nervously proposing the idea of going to the dance together, which she would always turn down.
His eyes hardened as he watched their every move, making sure they didn't touch her.
'Oh cmon! This is pathetic!'
He turned to stare at Leo, who was watching him boredly. He didn't even realising that the boys had been analysing him.
'Shut it you. I don't see you asking anyone either!'
Leo huffed and stood up, shooting a challenging glare Percy's way.
'Fine. Watch this!'
He stomped over to Annabeth, and Percys eyes narrowed.
'Hey Annababe, wanna go to the dance with me?'
Percy's heart dropped. He decided that Leo was no longer his friend. They were enemies now.
She laughed and shoved him lightly.
'I hope you're joking Valdez.'
She leaned closer to him and whispered something in Leo's ear, causing him to blush and nod slightly, walking back to the boys.
'Well' Jason spoke from where he was watching the encounter, 'that went well.'
Leo stared at his friend.
'I never said she had to say yes, but i did prove that i can ask someone. Your turn now Percy!'
Percy spluttered a reply as Leo and Frank pushed him in Annabeth's direction.
He ended up crashing into her back, causing her to drop her books. He glared murderously at the boys, who stifled laughs behind their hands.
'Im so sorry!' He leant down and picked them up, handing them back to her.
'Its fine! Ive gotten use to you now!' She joked, and he grinned down at her.
They stared into each other's eyes for a moment too long, and Percy snapped put of his trance - looking down at the girl.
'So, which one of those boys are you going to the dance with?'
She leant on her locker and looked at him confusedly.
'None of them? I said no.'
Percy stared down at her blankly, watching her aimlessly flick through her textbook.
'Come again?'
She stared at him with a raised eyebrow.
'Im not going with any of them.'
'Why not?'
She sighed and pushed off her locked, turning and opening it.
'I don't know. Its my first dance, i don't want to go with some stranger.'
He watched as she slowly placed her books on the shelf, turning to straighten the picture hanging from her mirror. He smiled when seeing it was a picture of her, him and Hazel, the night from the concert.
'Well,' he swallowed nervously, faintly aware of the boys watching him from a distance. 'Would you like to go with me?'
She glanced up at him in surprised, and he quickly backtracked.
'I mean, you don't have to, i was just thinking, like, you want to go with someone you know, and i -'
'Yes.' She cut him off.
He glanced down at her and saw her eyes were shining. He thought she loomed beautiful.
'Really?' He asked in shock, happiness filling his heart.
'Yes Percy. I want to go to the dance with you.'
He grinned as she leant up and pressed a kiss to his cheek.
'Okay, thank god. Would've been awkward at home if you said no.'
She laughed and shoved his chest slightly, closing her locker as the bell rang.
'Like i would've said no.'
She smiled softly at him and began making her way down the hall, leaving him looking stunned after her. He was going to the dance with Annabeth.
A smile lit up his face.
'Uh oh! Simp alert!' Leo yelled from the table, causing the boys to laugh.
If he wasn't so happy, he would've yelled back. Instead, he stuck his tongue out at the group and sauntered away.
He was going to the dance with Annabeth!
