Chapter 1
Once upon a time, in the land of Avalar, there was a huge castle that bordered an entire village, which was the Grand Kingdom of Avalar, and outside the Grand Kingdom was the Outlands and the Highlands.
We see a blue hedgehog, who had green eyes and white skin on his face and arms, and wearing a brown scarf, a pair of mismatched worn out shoes and worn out white socks, and had white gloves with white bandages on his palms and wrists. His name was Sonic the Hedgehog, but the problem was, he was a lowlife but had a good heart.
Today, he was in the middle of sweeping the floor at a local merchant shop full of brand new or hand-me-down collectables or antiques that need repairs.
His boss, Pete, however, wasn't a very kind hearted guy. He was a big fat anthropomorphic cat with dark grey fur and white facial fur with buzzed facial hair on his very big chin, and had brown eyes. He also wore a navy blue sweater tunic and a leather vest with a fur mantle over a white undershirt and a red and black striped long sleeve shirt, white gloves, brown trousers and dark brown boots with fur boot covers held by leather straps. He also had a dark brown leather and fur hat on his head, and in his mouth was a cigar.
At his desk, Pete was working on a few collectibles that needed repairs, before placing them back on their shelves so that they could be sold.
"This stuff works pretty good," he said, while chuckling at himself, before looking at Sonic. "Hey you! Aren't you finished sweeping that floor yet?!"
Sonic then stopped and looked at him, before his boss spoke again, "There's a lot of tiles that need to be cleaned! What's eatin' you, boy?!"
"Well, besides doing my work I guess, I was just thinking about who my family was or why they left me," Sonic replied.
"Well then, if you have no other problems, KEEP SWEEPING!" Pete hollered, as Sonic continued sweeping the floor.
Suddenly, a male villager came inside, as Pete greeted them, "Good day to you! What can I help you folks with?"
"I'm looking for a new bug smoker. Mine's already broke," he said. "I keep getting more bugs in my crops."
"Well, we've got any type you're interested in. You! Watch over the store! I've got things to sell!" Pete said to Sonic.
"Sure thing, chief," Sonic said in a not-so-dramatic tone, as Pete shook his head and walked away.
"You said you're looking for a new bug smoker?" Sonic said, as he held one out for the customer. "See if this one works."
The customer then pumped the smoker and then a cloud of fog came out, killing a few flies in the store.
"Perfect! I'll take this one!" the customer said, as he paid Sonic 15 galleons.
"Thanks. Have a nice day!" Sonic said, thanking the customer.
After a few more customers throughout the afternoon, Pete came back and saw most of the products were sold.
"So, how'd it go?" Pete asked.
"The one I found worked pretty well," Sonic said, feeling proud of his compassion.
"Hmm, I'm impressed," Pete said, as he gave Sonic a small sack full of coins. "Here you go. But I expect you to be here early because I've got a bigger job for you tomorrow. Now get out of here!"
Sonic nodded and then left the store.
Sonic walked through town, but stopped at a food stand to grab some chili dogs for dinner, along with some bread, meat, butter, eggs, and other types of produce including fruits and vegetables. He then started eating his chili dogs, but after Sonic took the bite of his second chili dog, he looked over and saw two young children rummaging through the garbage for food. The girl looked at him before she dropped her find and tried to hide. Sonic looked at them, then the chili dog he took a bite out of after swallowing.
Sonic then sighed and got up and walked over to the children, offering some of his bread. The girl pulled her little brother back.
"Here," he said. "Go on, take it."
The children giggled with delight.
As Sonic finished up his last few chili dogs, music suddenly started playing, "Huh?"
Sonic walked back into the daylight, where there was a parade going on.
A group of drummer were drumming their drums while a flag carrier led the way. A few more guards wearing gray tunics and gold armor walked through the crowd in front of a chariot pulled by six white stallions, while riding inside the carriage, Sonic, peering over the shoulders of a few people, could barely see a gray fox with elegant combed hair in brownish orange and blonde, along with a matching mustache and beard in the same color and wearing a grayish green tunic robe with reddish violet hems and gold linings, and a purple collar underneath a purple robe with fur covered seams and a gold chain, gray pants and blackish brown boots, and a brown fur ushanka hat. It was Prince Dimitrei of the Kingdom of Sokovia.
"On his way to the palace, I suppose."
"Yep. Another suitor for the princess."
Sonic was suddenly startled as the two children came running out from the alley. The boy ran out, but the girl pulled his little brother back.
"Clear the way! Out of the way!" a guard shouted, before his horse began panicking, scaring the children, as Sonic jumped in front of them in the speed of sound and gets them closer to the crowd so that they'd be safe.
"Watch where you're going, boy!" the guard said.
"You know, if I were a knight, I'd probably afford some manners!" Sonic replied.
"Are you talking back to me? You were born worthless and you will die worthless," the guard said.
"I'm not worthless!" Sonic said. "I just sometimes have bad luck."
The guard then carried on to the castle, as the parade came to a close, leaving Sonic nearly heartbroken over the guard's harsh words, as he walked back home, which was a small abandoned sheltered room with a few supplies and a picture frame of an owl with feathered ears and wearing leather and golden armor near a few candles.
He then walked over to one corner of the room which was a makeshift bed with a pillow and a wool blanket.
As he looked at Longclaw's portrait and his mother's ring one more time, he then fell asleep making soft snoring noises.
