Chapter 22: Storming the Castle
Link
Revali with Mipha on his back, Zelda, and I flew over Hyrule field with Daruk and Urbosa moving beneath us as we continued to get closer to the site of the growing commotion as the forces of the United Army of Hyrule clashed with Monsters and guardians alike. Clearly, Ghirahim was not going to let us into the castle without a fight, maybe even he was hoping we would die in the battle and then simply take the Triforce pieces from our bodies.
Do you honestly think I'll let that happen Ghirahim?
I turned to Revali as he flew alongside me, "Get Mipha on the ground, she's not exactly adept at fighting from the air. Urbosa, Daruk! Meet up with your factions! Zelda, find the Hylian and Sheikah forces! We'll rendezvous at the castle gates!"
"What about you!?" Revali asked, shouting over the sounds of battle.
"I'm going to try to find Teba and the Rito, just as you and Mipha find the Zora!"
"Why can't I be the one to find the Rito!?"
"Because you have a job to protect Mipha, and any harm done to her will be answered on your head, and if she dies, potentially with it, knowing her father. We'll meet up later!"
"You sure you're ok Link, going at this alone?"
"I'm used to it, Rev."
"Wow, make us all depressed will you?"
"Besides, don't you remember the forest? I'm never truly alone. Just find the factions, then we'll meet up!"
I turned to face Zelda, who was also Airborne
"Zelda, once I find Teba, I'll come find you, I promise."
"If I don't find you first.", she said.
I smiled at this, weakly, but still smiled, then turned back to the others including the ones who were running on the ground, "You have your orders, now let's move!"
With that, everyone else split up and off from the group while I kept flying straight, scanning the battle as I did, only to be interrupted by an all too familiar beeping as a red laser dot was on my chest.
Realizing that it was too late to try and dodge it, I took out my shield just as it fired, the full blast impacting the metal and knocking me out of the sky as I cried out. Realizing that I was in for a painful landing despite the fact that the laser hadn't even singed my tailfeathers, I curled up in a ball behind my shield as I put it between me and the ground, landing with a loud clang and cry of slight pain. I unrolled onto my back, taking a moment to get my bearings before I rose to my feet again, drawing the fully charged Master Sword as I stared down my foe with a focused glare. I was shocked to see that the guardian was unlike any that I had seen before, the blue eye was completely red, and Malice clung to it like vines or maybe even weeds to such an extent that it had almost become completely black. The guardian prepared another laser blast as I refocused and raised my shield before the guardian was thrown off target and disoriented by 2 bomb arrows from the left side of my vision. Looking over to the side, I was surprised to see a familiar navy blue Rito.
"Revali!? What are you doing here!? Where's Mipha!?"
He landed next to me, "She's with Sidon and Teba, they found us shortly after we split up, they're now finding the rest but I wouldn't worry about her, even if she was alone, she can take care of herself, she's stronger than you think, Link. As for me…"
We both looked up at the recovering Guardian, Revali smirked.
"You didn't think I would let you have all the fun, did you?"
With a smile from me, we readied ourselves to face our malice-infected foe as the guardian tried to focus on both of us. Seeing this, Revali took to the air with his Gale while I squared up with it with my blade in front of me in a both defensive and threatening manner. The one-eyed abomination once more focused on me with its single eye before it was once more thrown off by Revali's bomb arrow, taking advantage of its disorientation, I leaped forward and stabbed the machine in its eye confusing it even further before it was struck by Revali's blade as he attacked its leg before flying away as the Guardian tried to lock onto the agile Rito. That was when I decided to finish Revali's job, distracting it by slicing its leg clean off. Revali took the opportunity to fire three more bomb arrows at the site of the lost leg, knocking the thing on its side. We continued to harass it until I finally destroyed it with one last stab in its single eye. Revali landed next to me, and we grabbed each other's wings in a grasp of congratulations and brotherhood, with a cry of victory and satisfaction, but our celebration was short-lived as multiple guardians of the same kind suddenly advanced on us as the monsters around us also started to close in, leaving a sea of defeated soldiers in their wake, the golden colors and silver colors of the bokoblins made it clear that Ghirahim was not pulling any punches.
Revali
By Great Valoo, Ghirahim! What was next, a blood moon!? Link and I both braced ourselves for the fight of our lives before a rain of bomb arrows broke up the group. Looking up, we were both surprised to see a familiar white Rito leading a small group of Rito warriors. A sudden wave of water heralded even more reinforcements as Mipha and Sidon rode it in with more Zora warriors. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised by this point but still was, especially when Urbosa, Riju, Yunobo, Daruk, and Zelda with small groups of their respective factions joined the fight against the forces in front of us. The combined assault of all 10 of us and the groups we led was too much as we started to cut through the armies like butter. But it seemed like with each Bokoblin, or whatever other monsters that that madman saw fit to throw at us, I shot down or stabbed, twenty more seemed to take its place! As Link and I exchanged glances, it quickly became clear that this wasn't letting up anytime soon, despite our advancements toward the castle and though I hadn't counted my arrows I was sure I had less than I thought and knew that running out would be a death sentence.
"We need to move fast, or we're not going to make it!" Link said as he continued to fight
"Well, does anyone have any ideas!? I'm all ears! Err… if you could see my ears that is." I said as I shot another arrow right into a Bokoblin's head.
The glance Link gave me in response showed that he did not approve of the timing of my joke.
Teba suddenly landed next to me, brutally skewering another bokoblin with a spear before throwing it back into the crowd, knocking at least a dozen more off balance.
"The only way these monsters will even start to let up is if the source of their power is cut off. So don't worry about them, we'll hold them off, get to the castle! Go!"
I retrieved Mipha before taking off toward a waiting airborne Link and Zelda. My eyes narrowed as we flew toward the castle dodging every airborne attack that came our way, it was time to end this.
Link
The six of us finally made our way into the Sanctum, weapons drawn as we ran towards Ghirahim who was literally reclining on the throne.
"I was beginning to wonder if you wouldn't make it," he said.
"Yea, I came back to get something of mine," Revali said crossing his wings.
That struck a nerve as his gaze narrowed in hatred, "It was never yours, it was never supposed to be yours!"
"And yet I'm its guardian, so hand it over." He drew an arrow with The Bow of Light, "Before I pry it off your corpse."
Was Revali really threatening a demon? I mean it was brave but I doubt that Ghirahim would be intimidated.
He just got up and walked toward Revali calmly with a sinister chuckle, "All this time, you still don't know what you're dealing with."
Revali responded with a smirk, "I don't do I? Well, that's a shame." with that, Revali let loose the light arrow.
