Under Wing
Summary: Stolas looked down curiously at the human child lying on the cobblestone of the demon realm. Wrath was no place for such a creature, and yet… he found himself oddly drawn to her. She was no older than his precious Via… how could he possibly turn her away. Not able to look away, not willing to turn the other cheek, he knelt and lifted her into his feathered arms.

Stolas flicked away a father from one of his ruined pillows that now lay beaten and torn on the floor. Through no fault of his, of course. 'When it rains in Hell, it pours.'
"I can't fucking believe you, Stolas!"
Shrugging, he moved his eyes to his... lovely wife... not sure what to say to make the harping Demoness happy. He hadn't been able to do that properly for years. What's one more thing to drive her mad. "I'm sure your yelling will make everything better, Stella."
"You fucking ass! I'm thinking about OUR DAUGHTER!"
Laughing, he raised a hand, "my dear, if that is what worries you, Via is perfectly pleased to be getting a little sister." Moving across the room, he opened the door for his wife, "see for yourself."
Stella's eyes burned with a dirty only known to the Demoness's in Hell. He felt the feathers on the back of his neck stand on end. How utterly exhilarating and yet... disappointing.
"Fine, you and Octavia are both so very fucking excited to be welcoming some disgusting, living, diseased thing into our home. Well, I'm not! I don't want that nasty creature near Via! I don't want it on the house! I don't even want it down here in Hell!"
Nodding, Stolas understood what Stella was saying clearly. She didn't need to get louder and louder for every word she spoke. "This is Hell, Stella. I'm not in the business of giving people everything they want." Smiling ever so condescendingly, Stolas turned to face his wife and met her fiery eyes with his own fierce glare, "you understand, dear? The girl is here to stay, so... let's try to play nice, shall we?"

Octavia stared down at the sleeping girl. Looking her over, she was different than herself. Unlike her, this girl had no feathers... or beak. Oh, but her skin was kind of like hers! She was a soft creamy white color, not the solid snowy white that she was, but it was close! And her hair was black, just like hers!
She slept a lot. Her dad told her that she had been asleep since he found her. There was no change, sleeping quietly, only subtle movements here and there. "Come on, wake up!" She called out. "You're my new little sister; that's what daddy said." Octavia smiled down at the little girl, "I promise to be the best big sister ever!"
"That's quite the promise, Via."
Looking back behind her, she climbed down from the bed and ran up to her father. He met her halfway before lifting her in his arms. "Daddy, how long until she wakes up?"
Her father looked to her mother, then back to the sleeping girl. "I'm sure she'll wake up soon, Via, darling. Until then, let's let the little one sleep."
"I want to wait in here until she wakes up. I feel it, daddy. I feel it! She's going to wake up soon!" She watched her dad carefully, hopefully. He was contemplating her words.
"Alright then, Via. I'll stay and wait with you."
"Mommy too?"
Stella shook her head, "Mommy has things she needs to take care of." Turning her back on Octavia, she left the doorway and her husband and daughter staring after her. For a moment, at least. Stolas was quick to distract his daughter as he summoned one of her books to read to her while waiting for the young human child to awake.
"Why not pick a story out, Via?" The fairytale book floating in front of her was filled with classic demon-tales that were beloved by all of Hell's demonic little children.
"The one about the Imp's very bad day!"
"Ah," he waved his hand, and the pages fluttered to the start of the story. "There once was an Imp who was having a very bad day."

"—and the fires of Hell burned outside the Hotel, all because of an Imp and his very bad day."
"Why..."
Stolas jumped, looking down at his daughter, who was looking back at the bed. He followed her eyes. "...oh my." There, wide blue eyes stared back at him. Oh, but not any shade of blue he'd ever seen before. No, no. You could drown a kitten in the ocean that reflected in her eyes. Octavia pushed his arm away and climbed from his lap. Running to the girls' side, she quickly pulled herself up on the bed.
"Careful Via," Standing and closing the book, he let it drift away from his fingers before giving the child his attention. "What was your question, my dear?"
"Why was it the Imp's fault?"
His ears twitched a bit at the slight crack in her soft voice. 'Was she listening to the story this whole time?' He took a seat beside Via and smiled, "do you think it's not his fault?"
She shook her head, "all the bad things that happened, it wasn't his fault. He just... he was there."
"What a sweet little creature you are. Tell me, child, what is your name?"
She was quiet for a moment. Thinking carefully, she lifted a hand and placed it to her chest. "Kagome, my name is Kagome."
"How old are you? I'm Octavia, and I'm six!"
"...I'm six too."
Octavia smiled, "I'm older!"
Kagome nodded, "okay."
"So that makes you my baby sister!"
"I am?"
"You are, yes!"
Stolas tried to keep up with the conversation. The explanation was going much faster than he'd anticipated. Clearing his throat, he drew his daughters' attention to him. "Via, darling. Why not find Xol and have him bring Kagome here a warm glass of milk."
She didn't need to be told twice. Climbing from the bed, she was out the door in a flash, only peeking back inside to tell her father and new sister that she'd "be right back" before taking off in a run down the hall.
Stolas laughed a bit under his breath before turning his attention back to Kagome, her eyes locked onto his feathers. He lifted his hand, her eyes following. "You've never seen a demon before, have you. No," he answered for her, "of course not. May I see your hand, child?"
"You have feathers." she lifted her hand and held it out to him, curious eyes watching as he touched his to hers. It was so much larger than hers.
"I am a Demon of Goetia royalty, my dear child."
"Are you a king?"
He blushed, "ah, no. I'm a prince... but I know a King."
The girl tried to sit up, but without help, she only flopped weakly back down on the bed. "I can't sit up."
"You're body still needs rest, my dear." He reached out, though, helping her sit up. "What my daughter said earlier, did you understand?"
"...she's my sister?"
"Well, yes. Um," Stolas felt like she could see into his soul. It was such a terrifying feeling. "I would like to adopt you into the Goetia family. What do you think?"
She seemed confused, but then, she nodded. "Okay. Does that make you my daddy? What about mama? Is she here too?"
His head tilted, "your mother isn't here. I would happily be your dad, as for you mother, that...I suppose would be Stella. Though..." he laughed awkwardly, "goodness, where is Via."
"Master Stolas,"
Stolas turned around, seeing Octavia walking into the room with careful and slow steps so as not to spill the cup of milk. Turning a frown to the Imp, he watched him quickly bow his head.
"I brought you milk, Kagome! I did it on my own!" She placed it on the bedside table, and Stolas's eyes softened on his daughter. Ah, he had two daughters now. He'd need to start differentiating them properly. Placing a hand on Via, he smiled, "you did well, Via. Let's help her drink it, and then she needs a bit more sleep."
"More?!"
"I'm not tired,"
Both seemed sad at the idea of more sleep. Stolas didn't know what to do. "Then..." he looked thoughtfully at his hand before gently dropping it to Kagome's head. A red glow surrounded his hand, and it began seeping along Kagome's small body, caressing her own energy ever so cautiously. "A little should be fine..."
