Chapter 1: Unchained

In the snow covered woods of Patch, a small girl around fifteen years old huffed and puffed in exertion as she tried to drag a boy barely any older than herself—but still considerably taller and bigger than herself—to her house across the snow covered ground that lay underfoot. All the while a single crow followed her the whole way.

She was a petite figured girl with a AA-cup bust at most and a set of very slim and slender proportions body wise.

The young lass was dressed in a red hooded cloak that was clasped to her shoulders by a pair of cross shaped pins and had a black Victorian gothic blouse with black and red frilly cuffs, which was held close to her midsection by a red corset with silver rose thorns on the sides. Additionally she had on a belt with a side mounted buckle in the shape of a silver rose around her waist, a pair of red steel knuckles, fingerless gloves, and a combat shirt. Lastly was a pair of faded beige stockings and black and red combat boots.

On the back of her waist was her weapon of choice, Crescent Rose, a high-caliber sniper-scythe hybrid. And additionally her hair was styled in a free flowing manner, giving her a carefree air.

Though what was most eye-catching (pun intended) about the young girl were her stark silver eyes, which flicked in various directions at random intervals as her mind raced a mile a minute on how exactly she was going to explain her current predicament to her father and older sister. As she finally reached her house, she spotted her sister walking out the back door.

"Yang!" She called, getting her apparent sibling's attention. The older girl then took notice of her sibling and her face turned to one of worry as she rushed out of the house to her, her appearance now being shown as the crow who had been following Ruby landed on a nearby tree.

She wore what could be described as biker attire. The blondie had an orange low cut crop-top under a faded brown biker jacket with aviator sunglasses hanging from it. She was also wearing torn black shorts with a lilac coattail on the back of her waist as well.

She also had fingerless biker gloves with golden bracelets on them, though the bracelets were anything but.

Her attire was also slightly constricted due to the fact that she had a very voluptuous figure which the highlight of was her very ample DD-cup breasts.

"Sis, are you okay? Who's that?" The blondie questioned as she ran up to her sibling.

"I'll explain later, just help me get him inside!" Ruby replied as she kept dragging the boy towards the house. Yang was quick to grab the boy's shoulders before his head could hit a rock.

"Jeez this guy is heavy!" The blonde groaned as they brought the boy inside where their father Taiyang and pet corgi Zwei were sitting on the couch in front of a fire. "Where'd you find him, anyway?" She asked.

"Um… How would you react if I said he attacked me on my way back from mom's grave after I killed a bunch of Beowulves?" Ruby asked nervously as they set the boy on the couch. Yang and Taiyang snapped their heads at her immediately.

"What?!" The father of the two exclaimed as he glared at the unconscious faunus.

"He was really angry! Like he was… You know that illegal drug that causes people to lose control of their semblances and causes them to attack everything around them?" The girl said.

"You mean Rampage? Yeah, just having a cc of it can get you thrown in the slammer for five years. What about it, Ruby?" Yang questioned.

"He was acting like he was pumped full of two whole syringes full of it." Ruby elaborated. Taiyang frowned at the description.

"I know he wasn't actually on it; there's no black veins." He said as he kneeled down and looked the boy over. He opened one of his eyes and saw they were normal. "No bloodshot eyes either." He added.

"Did anything else happen, Ruby?" Yang asked, looking at her younger sibling.

"Well… You're probably not gonna believe me, but I think this guy has Grimm Lycanthropy." The Silver eyed girl said as she looked at the sleeping boy on the couch.

Grimm-born transformation diseases like lycanthropy were not unheard of, but were mostly regarded as folklore. However, studies into the effects of Grimm viscosity on the human body had indicated that it was possible. Which was unsettling to the older two of the three.

"Is he… mentally stable?" The blond man asked warily.

"Well, after a light came out of nowhere, he seemed okay." Ruby replied before holding her head, her migraine reminding her of its presence. "I do have a migraine, though." She added with a wince. What she failed to realize was that she was the cause of that light.

"Okay…" Tai said as he scratched his head in confusion while Yang tried to put a warm compress on their guest's temple. And right as this was going on, a knock on the door prompted Ruby to run to it.

And on the other side of the door was a person who she was really happy to see. "Uncle Qrow!" She exclaimed happily.

"Hey, squirt." The man chuckled as he walked in, only to raise an eyebrow at the unconscious faunus on the couch. "Oh, so it looks like you guys have met already." He stated.

"You know this kid, Qrow?" Tai questioned.

"I've been tracking him, actually." The Huntsman stated as he knelt next to Yang. "His name is Fenris Crimson, and I was supposed to be keeping an eye on him for Ozpin, but I lost track of him last week." He continued.

"You were tracking him? Why?" Yang asked in slight surprise, which Ruby shared.

"Kid's been through a lot. That Lycanthropy Ruby saw? That was forced on him by one of Oz's enemies. They were trying to turn this kid into a living weapon, created specifically to hunt…" He said as he turned towards his younger niece. "People with Silver Eyes." The man added.

"W-what? Who could want me d-dead?" Ruby asked in shock, stuttering lightly.

"Powerful people kiddo, but given that you were able to stop him, I think it's safe to say that you're safe as long as you're around your sister and dad." Qrow reassured her as he got up. "I gotta call this in to Ozpin. Keep an eye on Fen here for me, will ya, Tai?" He asked his friend and brother in law.

"Right." The blond man nodded. Ruby sat on one of the chairs, trying to process what she'd heard.

Someone, wanted to kill people like her? Why?

(Later)

A couple weeks after they found Fenris in the woods, the girls were finally able to let their guards down as the snow started to melt, meaning spring was finally here.

And as Ruby was bringing in some apples from the local market, she was surprised to find that the faunus boy was awake… and, apparently, having a conversation with Zwei.

"Wait… she does what now?" Fenris asked in amusement. Zwei barked a few times, causing the faunus to laugh.

"Uh, Yang?" Ruby asked as her sister came downstairs. "How long has he been talking to Zwei?" She asked.

"All day, apparently this guy's been around dogs and canines for so long that he can talk to them like it's a second language." Yang told her sister.

"Weird." Ruby muttered as she put the groceries in the kitchen. As she started putting the apples away in a basket on the table, her hand suddenly brushed against another hand. Startled, the girl turned around and saw the wolf faunus trying to get one of the pieces of fruit, but when she whirled around to face him, he also became startled and back peddled a bit until he tripped himself by stepping on his own tail.

This caused the boy to yelp like an injured puppy and fall to the ground, banging the back of his head against the kitchen's door frame rather hard.

"Ow…" He groaned.

"Are you okay?" Ruby asked in concern, kneeling next to him. Fenris nodded as he slowly looked up at her, his tail and ears drooping as he clutched his head, indicating that he was still sore, while at the same time feeling scared being near the girl before him—recalling when her eyes nearly destroyed him.

"I-I'll live…" Fenris stuttered in reply with a whimper. Ruby frowned slightly, noticing his fear and that it was aimed at her.

'What about me is scary?' She wondered. Deciding to try and calm him. The girl slowly reached out her hand to him and pat him on the head—the boy flinching momentarily—before he relaxed as she started rubbing his hair, and scratching him behind his wolf ears.

'This feels nice…' He thought, leaning into her touch. As the girl continued to scratch his ears, she soon found a weak spot behind his right ear, which caused him to tense up before he melted onto her lap, rolling on it like Zwei would… and it gave her an idea.

"Let's see if you like belly rubs." She smirked to herself. She then started rubbing his belly, causing him to pant like a happy dog. One of his legs was even twitching! 'I can't believe it! He's like a little puppy!' The girl gushed mentally as she continued to give her new companion some affection.

Off to the side, Yang and Tai were watching them from around the corner, and both were very relieved that Ruby had managed to tame their previously feral houseguest.

"Well, I think it's safe to say she's got him calm." Taiyang mused.

"Yeah, though it sure was a close call, huh dad?" The blondie asked her father.

"Yeah, it was." The man nodded.

(Later)

Later that night, everyone got ready for bed and Tai gave Fenris—or Fen for short—some of the pajamas he grew out of as a teen, which the faunus boy was grateful for.

Now, after eating a lot of food—as if he hadn't had a decent meal in awhile—the lupine lad was now in Ruby's room, walking around in a circle on all fours at the foot of the bed above the covers to help himself get comfortable. Before curling himself into a ball with his tail wrapped around himself.l

Ruby, despite finding it adorable, couldn't help but frown slightly at his behavior. It was as if whoever weaponized him didn't let him act like a normal person. It felt a bit weird seeing a faunus act like that, considering the faunus she's seen don't act in ways similar to Fenris.

"Could it be because of his Lycanthropy?" She wondered aloud to herself, before climbing into bed herself and turning out the light. And as the fragmented moon hung overhead, Fen rolled in his sleep occasionally until he found himself curled up in Ruby's lap. The girl stroked his hair and ears unconsciously as they both slept in peace.

(Timeskip)

Months passed since Fen's arrival to the Rose/Xiao Long house, and now both he and Ruby were in a small Dust shop reading magazines together one night.

Ever since the boy had started living with them, they discovered that the reason why he had two animal traits and so many animal mannerisms was because he had a rare genetic mutation that usually came from having a human parent who had faunus heritage and a full faunus parent with distant human heritage. As well as a result of his Lycanthropy.

Additionally, this affected all of his senses to be heightened. While his Semblance seemed to be that the angrier he got, the bigger, stronger, faster, and more durable he became. And the aura he produced when this happened seemed to burn or melt anything around him. This anger seemed to also be connected to his Lycanthropy, because if he got angry enough, his change would occur.

But all this didn't seem to happen when Ruby was nearby, for some reason, Fenris seemed to have an instinctive desire to protect Ruby at all times. So the two were practically inseparable.

As they read their magazines, they were unaware of notorious criminal Roman Torchwick entering the store, completely unopposed by the people outside with his gang of goons in tow. As they entered the store, he approached the shopkeeper with two of his men.

"Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a Dust shop that's open this time of night?" The redhead asked as one of his guys pointed a gun at the shopkeeper.

"P-please! Just take the lien and leave!" The old man exclaimed with his hands up.

"Oh we will." Roman placated before turning to his men. "Grab the Dust." He ordered. "It'll be even more valuable than the pittling stacks of lien this place has in the cash register." He continued, and as he ordered his men to collect all the Dust—all of them being sure to handle the precious commodity with care—one of them tried to intimidate the two teens.

"Hey! Hands where I can see 'em!" He ordered, but got no response. "Oi! I said hands in the air! You got a death wish or something?!" He asked in irritation.

But as he tried to grab Ruby by the shoulder, Fenris snarled angrily as he gripped the man's wrist tightly and twisted it, his lip curling—showing his canines—ears pinned down and tail fur bristling angrily as his red anger aura started to show.

"Don't. Touch. Her." He growled. The would-be mugger whimpered pathetically in pain as he dropped his gun.

"Was he trying to rob us?" Ruby asked as she turned around. Fenris spat as he continued to twist the man's wrist until the goon dropped to the floor.

"Looks like it." The Wolf faunus stated as he shoved the man into the wall, alerting the other goons, who Ruby kicked through the window.

Fenris was quick to follow. As Roman came out of the store, he watched as the two teens bring out their weapons. Ruby unfurled Crescent Rose in scythe mode and twirled it while the faunus boy took out his blades—Skoll and Hati—and spun them around by their chains before bringing them back to his hands.

"Uh-Huh…" Roman nodded as he looked at the two before turning to his goons. "Well? Get them." He ordered.

The men did as ordered and attacked the two tens, but numbers wouldn't help them here. One thug went for Ruby with his machete, but the girl was faster and swung her scythe blade at him. Another tried shooting her, but Fenris swung Skoll at his gun and cut it in half before slashing at him with Hati, taking him out of the battle.

Ruby then sent herself skidding backwards with the kickback of her Scythe's gun function and used the handle like a pair of monkey bars to spin and bicycle kick several more goons before shooting herself to her feet and using the momentum of her weapon to circle cut a guy, and then slam the tip of the blade on another guy's head, shattering the sidewalk.

'That's my girl.' Fen thought as he started swinging Skoll and Hati around, getting ready for one of his special moves as the blades became ignited.

With a roar, Fenris started swinging his blades in circles as they burned, hitting most of the thugs before finishing one of them off by slamming his blades into the ground, knocking him out.

As the man skid to the feet of his boss, burned and unconscious, Roman looked down at him and sighed. "You were worth every cent, truly you were." He stated before turning to the kids. "Well Red and Wolf, I think it's safe to say that it's been an eventful evening." The crime boss continued as he stamped out his cigar with his cane. "But as much as I'd like to stick around…" He added as his cane gained a crosshair sight. "I'm afraid this is where we part ways." He finished as he shot at them.

But before the shot could hit Ruby, Fenris quickly jumped in front of it and took the hit for her, his aura taking the full brunt of the hit.

"Fenris!" Ruby exclaimed in worry as the boy dropped to his knees, before she glared at Roman. "You're gonna pay for that!" She growled, but realized that he was getting away.

"Go… I'll catch up." Her friend told her, his aura rapidly repairing itself. Ruby nodded and ran at the fire escape Roman was using to get to the roof. All it took was using the recoil of her weapon to launch herself to the top so she could catch up.

"Hey!" She yelled, Torchwick sighed as he stood at the ledge before stepping onto it.

"Persistent little runt, aren't you?" The man questioned before turning around. "Well, sorry, but I'm claustrophobic and those jail cells give me hives, so, bye." He continued as he let himself fall backwards off the roof, and a few seconds later, he rose inside a Bullhead.

"Criminals, always with the dramatics." A new voice said as a woman walked up next to Ruby. Said woman had caucasian blond hair, green eyes and a pair of glasses. Her clothes consisted of a white blouse, a black skirt with matching black stockings and a pair of black high heels. She also had a black and people cape that looked like its tears were an intentional part of the design. In her right hand was a riding crop.

"Well, here's to looking at you kiddo, see ya!" Torchwick called as he tossed a chunk of fire dust and was about to shoot it, but Skoll came out of nowhere and swatted the shot aside, destroying an air conditioner in the process while also unintentionally destroying the Dust chunk and causing an explosion that covered the crook's escape.

Luckily though, the woman was able to shield them from the blast and reform any damaged areas with telekinesis. So no harm, no foul.

"Sorry about that." The wolf faunus said as he approached the two. "Using my weapon's at really long ranges isn't as easy as it looks." He sighed as his sword returned to him, allowing him to sheath them and take off the chains for the time being.

"I can tell." The woman nodded, slightly peeved at the unintentional slip up.

"You're a Huntress!" Ruby exclaimed in glee. "Can I have your autograph?!" She asked with a giant smile.

(Later)

Both kids were now in what looked to be an interrogation room with the woman who they just met, and she was busy chewing them out. Fenris—to his credit—at least attempted to reel in his usually really bad temper, but about three minutes in, he started snarling at her, every animalistic indicator he had blaring at the woman 'Shut up before I maul you' which she seemed to be ignoring.

"You two should be ashamed of yourselves! You put yourselves and others in grave danger!" She ranted.

"So you're suggesting we do absolutely nothing at all?!" Fenris snapped, he was quite literally foaming at the mouth by this point.

"Yeah! They started it!" Ruby added as the woman paced.

"Well, side effects of the altercation aside. If it were up to me, you'd both be sent home. With a pat on the back…" The blonde continued, causing the two to look at her again. "And a slap on the wrist." She added, swatting the table with her riding crop, which Fenris was quick to grab in his mouth in retaliation.

"Easy, Fenris." Ruby said, trying to calm him as she grabbed his shoulder. The once feral boy glanced at her before releasing the woman's weapon of choice from his mouth.

"Anger management classes would do wonders for you…" The huntress said with narrowed eyes. "But there's someone who wants to meet you." She added as an older man entered the room, a cane, mug of coffee and a plate of chocolate chip cookies of all things in hand.

He set the cookies down on the table, which resulted in Ruby devouring most of them while giving five to her faunus friend, who seemed disappointed at how little he got. Feeling bad about that, Ruby then broke her last one in half and shared it with him, which he accepted happily.

"Ruby Rose." The man said as he sat down. "You… Have silver eyes… How interesting." He noted idly before turning to Fenris next, who was getting his ear scratched by Ruby. "Fenris Crimson… you have Grimm Lycanthropy, if I'm not mistaken, correct?" He noted, startling the two teens.

"How did you—?" The boy asked, and this made Ruby realize something.

"Oh that's right! He had someone keeping an eye on you." She told the wolf boy.

"Oh…" He nodded. The old man then continued as he pulled up a video of the fight.

"Where did you two learn to do this?" He asked.

"Uh… Signal Academy?" Ruby replies.

"Self taught." Fen stated.

"Signal taught you to wield one of the most dangerous weapons ever designed?" The man questioned.

"Well, one teacher in particular." The girl explained.

"Yes, I only know one person who could wield a scythe with that level of skill. A dusty old crow…" The green clad figure stated.

"Does he mean your uncle?" Fen questioned.

"Yes he does." Ruby nodded before she started rambling. "I was total trash before uncle Qrow took me under his wing! Now I'm all wha cha!" She said, doing some faux karate motions. Before she could continue, Fenris covered her mouth with his hand.

"Ruby, you're rambling again." He deadpanned. The girl looked sheepish as her mouth was uncovered.

"Sorry." She apologized before looking at the amused Ozpin. "What I'm saying is: I want to be a Huntress." She declared. Ozpin hummed and looked at Fenris.

"And you?" He inquired.

"I just wanna make the one who ruined my life before a few months ago pay." He grunted, before his features softened as Ruby hugged him. "And to protect my best friend." He added as he hugged her back.

The two in front of them exchanged glances before nodding at each other. "Do you know who I am?" The man questioned the two kids.

"You're Professor Ozpin, headmaster at Beacon." Ruby replied.

"Also one of the youngest headmasters in history." The wolf faunus added.

"And, do you want to come to my school?" Ozpin asked. The two companions shared a look before they turned back to him.

"Yes!" They nodded.

"Well, in that case, I'll see both of you at Beacon." Ozpin said, causing them to widen their eyes.

"Wait, what?" The wolf boy asked, doing a double take.

"Seriously?!" Ruby added in shock.

"Seriously." The headmaster nodded, making the silver eyed girl squeal in happiness as she hugged her canine companion, who hugged her back as well.

(Timeskip)

"Oh I can't believe that my little sister is going to Beacon with me! This is the best day ever!" Yang exclaimed as she hugged Ruby tightly, Fenris doing his best to stay out of the blondie's reach. Having been nearly suffocated by the girl's ample bosom one too many times.

'Sorry, Ruby, but I don't feel like dying by suffocation.' He thought apologetically.

"Please stop!" Ruby groaned as Yang let her go.

"You two were awesome out there, seriously!" Yang said giddily.

"It wasn't that good." Fenris shrugged, not seeing the big deal.

"Of course it was good! You two fight off a notorious criminal!" The blondie stated. "Everybody's gonna think you're the bee's knees!" She added.

"But I don't want to be the bee's knees! I don't want to be any kind of knees!" The younger of the two exclaimed. "I just wanna be a normal girl with normal knees." She continued.

"Kinda late for that, Rubes." Her best friend chimed in.

"I know, it's just, I'm two years younger than everyone else. I don't want people to think I'm special." The girl sighed before the taller of the two hugged her from behind.

"Don't worry, if anyone wants to cause trouble for you, just call me. I'll deal with them myself." He told her, which made Yang start gushing.

"Oh, you two look like an actual couple!" She squealed, which made them separate with faces as red as a sack of tomatoes.

"Yang!" Ruby whined.

'Way to ruin the moment, Yang.' Fenris growled angrily before he looked back at Ruby with a loving blush. 'Although… That, actually doesn't sound that too bad. Now that I think about it.' He added as he looked out the window with the two girls.

Vale did look small from this high up, that was for sure.

Dragon Emperor0: And here it is, the first chapter of this story. And in case you guys are wondering, we took a lot of inspiration for how we decided to handle this one from the Fixing RWBY series done by Celtic Phoenix on YouTube. So be sure to give it a look. We'll probably be referencing a few things he did here and there as a way of paying homage to it, since it's that good.

ThermalsniperN7: Yeah. Gotta make this story good somehow. Anyway, we also decided to use a move from God of War here. See if you can spot it.

Dragon Emperor0: Seeing as that Fenris's weapons Skoll and Hati are inspired by the Blades of Chaos, expect that to be a regular thing. Also, how do you like Ruby and Fen's dynamic? Do you guys like how we flipped the relationship of Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf on its head?

ThermalsniperN7: Admit it, you like the concept of the Big Bad Wolf being reduced to a puppy by Little Red Riding Hood. It's adorable.

Dragon Emperor0: And don't you worry you Nuts and Dolts fans. We won't be scrapping you guys here… Okay that was in poor taste, but you get the idea. Anyway guys, see you all next time in chapter 2: Wolves und Braun.
