It was summer, and the heat was infernal, it was so hot that all of the members of Fairy Tail were relaxing at the pool.
Nobody is working today!
…
Juvia was also relaxing in the pool and she even played a game with her friends, and obviously being in her element, won. Now she was seated watching her beloved in these days where there was even more sky, the sun shone brightly and she thought how it was all thanks to him.
If it wasn't for Gray, Juvia never would have been able to see the sun and enjoy a summer's day, for her summer never existed, there was always rain.
Sometimes she remembered the past, she thought about all the things that she was never able to do because of her curse of the rain and she would get sad and angry. She had a complicated relationship with the rain. It was her first and only friend, her refuge. It had been her only constant present in all of her life's moments but at the same time it was synonymous with destruction, pain, sadness, derision, and the reason why no one accepted her.
The girl sighed and told herself that it wasn't the time to think about sad things, if she started she would never stop until the next day, she knew it.
"Did you put on sunscreen?"
"Gajeel-Kun! You scared Juvia! Does Gajeel-Kun think it's ok to sneak up behind people like that?"
"Gihi! You were too busy drooling over the stripper to notice that I was talking to you."
"That's not true! And if it were true, you cannot blame Juvia!" said the girl, returning her gaze towards the ice mage who had just undressed himself, again.
"That pervert!"
"Marvelous Gray-Sama!"
"You have awful taste in men."
"Quiet! What would you know?"
"Either way, did you put on sunscreen?"
"Yes, Juvia put some on."
Gajeel was obsessed with sunscreen and made her use it all the time, the truth was that the first week that they were under the sun, Juvia got sunburned a lot, her skin was not used to the sun which is why this accident happened. From then on Gajeel decided to buy sunscreen for her.
He always had to take care of her, that brat couldn't take care of herself!"
"Good!"
"Thank you, Gajeel-Kun, you're very sweet!"
"Woman! Don't ever call me sweet again, hear me?"
"Fine, Juvia won't say it again."
"You're always embarrassing me!"
"But you love it just the same."
"That's what you think."
Meanwhile, Gray and Levy watched the ex-Phantom due, with a bit of jealousy.
…
After a while, Gray came closer to Juvia.
"Hi Gray-Sama."
"Hi."
"Does Gray-Sama want something to eat? Juvia has prepared some food for the occasion."
Gray hoped that there was nothing evident on his face, but seeing as how it was Juvia…
"No, I'm not hungry right now, thanks."
"Alright."
"We can play a game like before."
"Yes! Juvia would love to! Juvia loved beating Love Rival and Natsu-San."
"Yeah, that was fun."
They had played a game in teams in pairs, in the pool and the two had won. Lucy wanted to summon Aquarius, but she was too scared to upset her.
"I heard you! I want vengeance! I'm all fired up!" yelled Natsu, a little after.
"Get ready to lose again, flame brain, let's go Juvia."
"Yes, Gray-Sama."
"Lucyyyyyyyyyy! Let's go! Time to avenge ourselves!"
"But Natsu! I don't want to!"
"Let's go!" He took her hand and dragged her to the pool without thinking twice.
Everyone laughed.
"I'll be the judge again," said Erza.
"Me too," said Mira.
"I'm here too," said Cana.
"Hey, Juvia?"
"Yes, Natsu-San?"
"I do want the food you made, after me and Lucy win I'll eat it."
"Juvia made the food for Gray-Sama, Natsu-San."
"But Gray doesn't want it!"
"I never said that I don't want it! Quit putting yourself into everything!"
And the two began to fight again, Juvia cheering Gray, Lucy sighing exasperated, and Happy saying that they liked each other.
"Enough!" said Erza, "Let's line up in the pool!"
"Yes," said everyone.
…
In the end there was no vengeance because Juvia and Gray won again, Natsu wanted another round but the results were always the same, so the Dragon Slayers decided to change the game but Erza told him that they were to have and escape the heat, not for stupid rivalry with Gray.
Gray finally ate the food that Juvia made him, even though he didn't touch his face, rather the other decorations, the food shaped in his face she ate and it had a strange effect on him.
Natsu managed to steal a piece and eat it, as did Elfman.
Gajeel and PantherLily didn't need to steal any as Juvia had made them food as well.
Finally, everyone sat down to eat what Mira had also prepared and continued playing and having fun.
Later, of course, there were indecent questions from Cana and her teasing of the girls.
…
In the afternoon, around 5 o'clock, everyone was still in the pool trying to escape the infernal heat.
Juvia had spent a lot of time in the water and was now under an umbrella.
"Juvia, are you ok?" Erza asked her.
"Yes, Erza-San, thank you, Juvia is fine, it's just really hot."
"You're right, it's unbearable."
Juvia loved the sun; it was what she had always wanted but on that day it was a real hell.
"Even though it's lovely! Juvia was never able to experience a day like this before."
"I understand."
Erza had not been followed by the rain like Juvia but she had been a slave in a tower, so she likewise was unable to enjoy the sun and her life before Fairy Tail, she could only see it from the small windows there.
"What are you girls up to?" asked Lucy.
"We're talking about this blasted heat!'' responded Erza.
"Oh yeah, I love the summer but it's way too hot today, luckily there's a pool, but even the pool is hot. Not even magic can get rid of this heat," complained the celestial spirit mage.
"We should get used to it."
"Also, with Natsu there's even more heat in the summer, being near him is even worse."
"Well, he's a fire mage, so of course."
"Yeah."
"Are they fighting again?"
"Yes, and Gajeel and Elfman have joined them."
"Leave them alone."
"You aren't going to intervene?"
"No, it's too hot for me too."
"I see… Juvia, you're pale and sweating a lot, are you ok?" asked Lucy.
"Y-Yes, it's just really hot.
The blunette didn't know how many bottles of water she had drunk that day, it really was too hot!
"Way too hot, it's true."
Lucy laid down with the two girls and also went under the umbrella while watching the boys and everyone else enjoy themselves.
Juvia took a fan and began to fan herself to give herself a little air.
Erza noticed that the water mage was really pale and looked tired.
"Did you sleep ok last night, Juvia?"
"Eh? Yes, Erza-San, Juvia went to sleep and woke up when she normally does."
In fact, the blunette always went to bed before midnight and always woke up at 6 o'clock. Many years ago, she would sleep at 9 pm and Gajeel would always make fun of her for that. Her schedules had changed, but she always tried to abide by them and sleep well.
"Your last mission went well?"
"Yes, Juvia and Lisanna-San had to capture some bandits, nothing special, it was easy."
"I see."
Lucy watched close by.
Meanwhile, Erza was trying to convince herself that Juvia was fine, that she was just seeing things, and that it was probably just the heat.
…
Natsu and Gray were knocked out by Laxus after having upset him with their teasing. Gajeel was having fun teasing Levy and Jet, and Droy watched the two with envy and defeat.
After a half hour Juvia's head began to spin and she was seeing double, the girl fainted but luckily Gajeel caught her in time thanks to her reflexes.
"Rain Drop! Wake up!"
Wendy, Erza, Lucy, Levy, Mira, Cana, Lisanna, Natsu, Gray, and the master rushed over alarmed, everyone else was worried.
"Juviaaa!" the girls yelled.
"Give her room! Too many people around won't help," said Levy.
"What happened?" asked Gray.
"I don't know, but she was a bit pale earlier," said Lucy.
"I was afraid this would happen," muttered Erza, angry at herself.
"Enough, brats! Gajeel, take Juvia to the infirmary, Natsu and Happy go look for Porlyusca and bring her here, Wendy try to help her wake up."
"Yessir."
"Everyone else, stay calm."
"Yes."
Ando so Gajeel hurried to take Juvia to the infirmary and lay her down on a bed. The Dragon Slayer's face was unreadable but levy could see the worry he felt.
Natsu and Happy went to find Porlyusca with urgency, as Makarov ordered.
Meanwhile, Wendy was using her healing magic on Juvia.
"She's very pale, and she has a fatigued look. Does anyone know what exactly happened, why she fainted?" asked the small dragon slayer.
"We don't know, but she had those symptoms," explained Lucy.
"She wasn't feeling well?"
"She only said that she was feeling very hot."
"Well, we were all very hot," said Charle.
"Shit!" said Gajeel.
"What's happening?" asked Levy.
"Could it have been the heat?" Gajeel asked Wendy.
"Well, yes, it's possible, too much heat isn't good," the girl explained.
And this was the hottest day she has ever experienced, thought Gajeel.
"Either way, don't worry, she'll be fine, she just needs to rest, but we still need Grandeeney, surely she can help her more than me."
Meanwhile Gray was watching with worry. What had happened? Why had Juvia fainted? When would she wake up? And what had happened to her?
Erza looked at Gray and decided to tell him what had happened earlier.
"I noticed that she was a little pale, I thought that maybe she hadn't slept well or that something had happened to her, but she told me that it was just too hot."
"Well, it is very hot."
"Maybe it was low blood pressure."
"Yes, maybe, maybe she overdid it…"
"Anyways calm down, Porlyusca is coming."
…
Juvia woke up after about ten minutes very confused and Wendy told her that it would be better if only a few people stayed in the room, so only Gajeel, Gray, Erza, Wendy, and the master were there.
A little later Porlyusca arrived and kicked them all out except for Wendy. Gajeel and Gray refused to leave the room, for which Erza forced them out, but Makarov and Wendy managed to convince Porlyusca to let Gajeel stay, much to the chagrin of the ice mage.
…
"How are you feeling, Juvia-San?" asked Wendy.
"Better, thank you Wendy-San."
"You collapsed due to excessive heat."
"Juvia does not understand."
"Before fainting how did you feel?"
"Juvia felt very hot and burning, then her head began to spin and then she fainted."
"Yes, it was the heat."
"B-but…"
"It's nothing grave, Juvia-San, and is something that could happen to anyone."
"But it happened to Juvia," she said as the tears started to fall from her eyes.
"Juvia-San, it's fine, you only fainted, not you're fine, there's no need to cry or is there something that hurts?"
"N-no, don't worry Wendy-San, Juvia is fine."
That wasn't true, she wasn't fine, for her, this news was a tragedy, but she'd get used to it like always.
"I advise you to avoid being in the sun, today is too hot and your body has had a bad reaction, perhaps we should run a few tests to better understand," said Porlyusca.
"But why, Grandeeney?"
"It's a precaution and don't call me that!"
"Everything will be fine, Juvia-San, you'll see."
"Yes, of course," Juvia responded, drying her tears.
"Now rest, I'll take care."
"Yes."
…
Meanwhile, Porlyusca had left to speak in private with Gajeel, who she had asked to follow her to explain the situation.
"So she lived her whole life under the rain, you say?"
"Yes, it only stopped raining after the battle between Phantom Lord and Fairy Tail, after her battle with the stripper."
"This changes things."
"Yes?"
"Yes, that her body reacted badly due to excessive heat was obvious to me, but now I understand why, if she lived her whole live under the rain and say the sun only after joining Fairy Tail, it obviously means that she is not used to this climate and this change has harmed her."
"Mhm."
"Tell me, have there been other accidents or fainting spells?"
"No, not exactly, just… she got sunburned and she would get tired faster than before, but nothing grave, that I know of."
Seeing as how he knew her, she knew that she couldn't tell him anything to not worry him.
"And where did this rain come from?"
"She's a water mage."
"That has little to do with this, give me a more detailed explanation."
"I don't know and neither does she, it's always been a question she's had but no answer."
"Her parents?"
"Dead."
"Other family?"
"Mh…"
"Yes?"
"One time she talked about an uncle, but she told me that he also died and then she was sent to an orphanage."
"I see, do you have any more information?"
"Her body is made out of water, don't ask me why, because we have no idea."
"It's made completely of water?"
"Yes."
"Alright, anything else?"
"She can turn to vapor, but only when she's really mad."
"Mhmm, I see."
"I don't, I don't understand anything, I would like to know what's happening to the rain woman."
"I already explained it to you! Having never been in such extreme heat, her body couldn't handle it and she fainted, however I'll run some more detailed tests."
"Good."
…
Author's corner!
Juvia is a very mysterious character, you know?
We know so little about her!
One of the things that always intrigued me was her connection with the rain.
Where did it come from? Why did it stop? Why did it return?
So many unanswered questions.
I thought about it a bit and I thought that it wouldn't be too unusual for her to feel bad under the sun seeing as how she had always lived under the rain, so we can assume that she is more accustomed to the cold than the head, right?
I don't know, anyways I got this idea and decided to write it.
I'll say this, thank you to those who follow, read, and comment and those who also found this as an interesting idea.
Many thanks to Botan G as always for translating my fics into English, for taking this precious time and dedicating it to you and me.
Until next time.
