Hachiman walked and entered 2F. Late for the nth time, he thought about activating his trademarked 'Stealth Hikki'. He wanted to slip in unnoticed but fate had other plans.
"Hikigaya." The lab coat wearing, shounen loving, ramen eating teacher named Hiratsuka called out to him. "You're late, again." This made Hachiman sigh. "You know what, just go and sit down. Let's just meet on my office later." Hikigaya then sat down, and then noticed a stare directed towards him.
'Why am I getting stared at?' Hikigaya thought. He tried to identify who it was, by using his deductive skills. 'The only candidates for that kind of stare would be Saki, Yuigahama-san, or Hiratsuka-sensei. Among those, Sensei would be ruled out because she is currently teaching. Then that leaves Saki and Yuigahama-san.' Deciding to test his theory, Hachiman gazed to where Saki was. 'So it's not Saki.' Another gaze towards the pink haired girl disproved his assumptions. 'It's not Yuigahama-san either!' Hachiman panicked. Quickly scanning the room, he found the culprit.
Emerald eyes met Fish eyes.
'Why would the pretty blonde glare at me? I don't even know who she is.' Remembering a purple skinned megalomaniac as he spoke, Hikigaya went and listened to his teacher.
He fell asleep shortly.
"-ou Yui, get me a drink, will ya?" Waking up, Hachiman heard a loud voice. Paying attention to the source, he saw the same blonde haired girl that was glaring at him earlier.
"B-but by the time I come back, lunch would be over so I really can't do that." Yui laughed awkwardly after answering the blonde. The said blonde then started speaking again. "I don't get it, aren't we friends?" Her intimidating aura and the loudness of her voice made sure the people inside the room paid attention. Yui, who replied with a meek sorry, was on the verge of tearing up. Hachiman noticed this, and thought of defending the pinkette.
"Hey, that's enough-" His words were cut off by the blonde interrupting him. "Shut up." With the glare, it was enough to make anyone stand down.
Not Hachiman, who had to deal with all kinds of people when he used to work for Toshiro-san's convenience store.
"How about you shut up? You're disturbing the peaceful atmosphere of the room by talking loud." Hachiman stood up to stretch. "You even interrupted my sleep damnit."
"Why should I care about your sleep? Go and don't butt in here." The blonde smirked after speaking.
The other blond, waved his hands to dismiss the tension. "Guys, let's all just calm down." Hachiman didn't listen.
"Then I'll just tell your dad that you're acting like a bitch instead of studying then." This line made the blonde clam up. 'This jerk!' With no choice but to back off and quiet down, the blonde spoke one last time. "Whatever." Then went back to fiddling with her phone.
"I promise to make it up to you, Yumiko!" The pinkete spoke before running towards the exit. Hachiman smiled when he saw that the teary eyed girl was relieved. Deciding to grab his favorite drink, he exits the room to walk towards the nearest vending machine.
"Thank you for standing up to me, Hikki!" He wasn't expecting the pinkette to say thanks, nor needing to hear it.
"No problem. And even if I didn't butt in, I'm sure Yukinoshita-san would stand up for you. Isn't that right, Yukinsohita-san?" The girl in question squeaked in the sudden mention of her name.
"You're right, Hikigaya-kun." Yukino, who managed to calm down, replied. "Also, I met Hiratsuka-sensei and she wanted you to come on her office." Hearing that, Hachiman groaned before murmuring about his tardiness, which the two girls didn't hear.
"See you later in the clubroom." Hikigaya waved off before walking towards the faculty office. When he opened the door, he was greeted by his silver-haired friend. "Saki?!" The said silverette became flushed at their sudden closeness. Using his prided skill in enforcing his personal space, Hachiman distanced himself first. "Did Hiratsuka-sensei call you or something?"
"A-ah! Yes! Hiratsuka-sensei called me here!" Panicked the girl. Hachiman tilted his head in confusion. 'Why on earth is Saki flustered? Stop being flustered dammit!' He thought. Hachiman asked another question.
"Why did she call you?"
This time, thankfully, Saki was able to get her bearings and calm down. "I've been tardy three times in a row, so she called me here to ask some questions." This made him think. 'Now that I think about it, Saki's becoming late more and more. Is there a problem in their house?' "Is it something I should be worried about?" He asked.
Waving her hands in dismissal, Saki replied to him. "No no no! you don't need to be worried about it!"
"If you say so…" Saki sighed in relief when he didn't press into it anymore. "I guess I'll see you later then?" Saki nodded and then left the office. Hachiman proceeded to walk towards the teacher who called him. Seeing her smoking, he sighed before getting her attention.
"Sensei. You know that smoking's prohibited here right?" The said teacher turned towards him and blew the smoke. "Get off my case brat, this is the only stress reliever I have aside from watching animes." His eyes twitched when the smoke hit his face.
"So, why am I called here?" Hachiman said as he leaned on the nearest shelf. "Is it because I'm late earlier?" The teacher on a lab coat then placed the cigarette on the ashtray. "Yeah, and also, because your Biology professor asked me to talk about the essay you passed." Pinching the bridge of her nose, she prepared for the massive headache incoming.
"Tell me Sensei, why would Satoshi-sensei give you my paper?"
"Because I'm the guidance counselor! Did you forget the first time we met?" The teacher shouted. 'I swear he's doing it on purpose to rile me up!' She thought. Hachiman then asked another question. "What's wrong about my essay? I just said that I wanted to live like a bear because they're solitary."
"But with your arguments, you are saying that pack hunting is bad." Not one to pass up a jab at his teacher, Hachiman decided to quip. "But, aren't you hunting singly Sensei? Rather, you're still-" The following words died on his throat when he saw the murderous look his teacher was giving him.
'Scary!' He thought. "Sorry, Sensei, it's just a force of habit." He tried to console the sulking teacher. Still, he was being ignored. "Oi, Sensei?" Taking another look at his teacher, he noticed that she was zoning out and muttering that it wasn't her fault that she was single. Sighing, the teenager then muttered to himself. "I guess I should treat Sensei to something to make her feel better."
Hearing the muttering of her student, Hiratsuka perked up and became excited. "Did I hear that right?! You're going to treat me?" She was breathing hard as she asked the question.
'Oi, why are you acting like a schoolgirl? That's so far from your age.' He thought. "Fine. Do you have work on Saturday?"
"No! I'm free!" As quick as the question came, Hiratsuka answered. "What time would we meet? Where are we going? What should I wear?" His teacher started mumbling.
Coughing to clear his voice and grab her attention, Hachiman started speaking again. "Oi Sensei, stop thinking like it's a date, I'm just treating you because I feel bad." He facepalmed at his teacher's antics. "And stop acting like that, aren't you weirded out by the idea of going on a date with your student?"
Hiratsuka snapped out of her trance quickly.
Once she calmed down, she started speaking again. "I'll keep that in mind, Hikigaya." Remembering another topic that she wanted to talk to him about, Hiratsuka proceeded to speak. "Now that it's been a week, I'll ask you." She stretched, making her bust strain the vest underneath her lab coat. "What do you think about Yukinoshita?"
"She's a talented person, who for some unknown circumstances, became a loner."
"That's surprising, I thought you're going to say that you hate her or something." The surprised teacher spoke out. Hachiman then started speaking again. "While we don't see eye to eye, I don't have any reasons to hate her. All her insults are her way to ask for my attention, which I find amusing. Deep down, she doesn't mean any of the insult she throws." Hachiman finished speaking.
"I agree with your statements regarding her being talented. But that caused her problems too. Even the talented ones have it rough. But, I know that behind her snarky and ice cold persona, she's a nice girl at heart." Hiratsuka paused, then fixed the clutter on her desk. "You guys have twisted personalities, and the club is my way to keep my eyes on you guys."
"Excuse me, but I'm taking my own steps to become a better person. I'm only staying on the club because of my respect towards you Sensei." Hachiman pointed out.
"And I'm thankful for that. I promise you will not regret it." Hiratsuka said. Hachiman saw his teacher smile at him. 'Sensei looks beautiful when she smiles.' He thought. "Well, I won't hold you back anymore, go grab your lunch." His teacher shooed him. Grumbling, he followed he instructions and left the faculty room. Deciding to grab a can of his favorite drink, he went to the nearest vending machine.
Getting what he came for, Hachiman walked back towards his classroom, intent on getting a quick nap. "Oi, are you really going to ignore me?!" He heard someone speak. The source of the voice was the blonde who was being loud earlier. "Isn't this what you want, Miura-san? For me to act like we didn't know each other at school?" He asked the blonde, called Miura-san.
Hachiman, who didn't know the strength she had, had been pinned to the wall. "That went out of the window the moment you mentioned my dad earlier!" Now that he thought of it, it was a stupid move to threaten her with that. 'Our classmates probably think that I know her close enough to know her parents! Hachiman you fucking idiot!' He thought. "My plan to disassociate myself from you is now busted, so…" Strong wind blew the blonde's hair.
"You better take responsibility!"
'Really? Why is she acting like I got her knocked up or something?' Hachiman thought, as he observed her face. "My bad, Miura-san, sorry if your plan went to shit because of what I said." Miura then distanced herself from their previous position. "Whatever, it's not like we won't interact in the future. This way, it's easier because I won't have to act like I don't know you." Hachiman breathed in relief.
"You're not in the clear yet, Hikio." The blonde started speaking again. Knowing the look that she is currently giving him, Hachiman walked back to the vending machine. He bought a strawberry drink, then gave it to the waiting Miura. "Here, peace offering."
"Thanks, Hikio!" The blonde smiled as she thanked him. 'Another person who looks beautiful when smiling.' Hachiman thought. "No problem Miura-san." Before he could even start walking, the blonde grabbed the left sleeve of his blazer. "Call me like you used to, Hikio."
"Yumiko-san."
"Uh uh"
"Yumiko."
"You want me to punch your face?!" Yumiko threatened.
"Fine." Hachiman sighed for the nth time of the day. "Yumi." The blonde flashed him another smile, before letting go of his arm.
"Let's go Hikio!" Yumiko grabbed his arm again and dragged him. The bell rung, signifying the end of lunch break. "We're late!"
"With that, that marks the end of our session." The spectacled professor spoke as the final bell rung. "Make sure to review the formulas, because we have a quiz by the end of the week." The students answered in monotone before their teacher left.
"Finally! I hated hearing Kobore-sensei! His voice is so watery that it sounds like it's spilling!" A student ranted. Hachiman cringed at the pun the student made. (1)
Standing up, he grabbed his bag before walking towards the Service Club. He wanted to be productive and read the light novel he brought with him.
"Oi, Hikio!" He heard Yumiko call out to him. The blonde walked towards him and asked him a question. "Are you going home?" Yumiko's clique, as Hachiman calls them, was a bit curious and listened to their conversation. Yui even came close to the two.
"How do you know Hikki, Yumiko?" The pinkette butted in as she asked the blonde.
"It's a long story, Yui." Yumiko answered Yui's question. "Answer my question, Hikio. You know I don't like waiting right?"
"Blame Yuigahama, she asked you a question." Hachiman grumbled. "And to answer your question, I'm not going home yet. Hiratsuka-sensei made me join a club as a punishment for my tardiness." Yumiko looked at Hachiman with concern.
"Are you sure she's not threatening you?" She asked with worry. Yui, who was watching on the sidelines, thought to herself. 'I guess she knows Hikki to the point where she becomes worried about him.'
"No, I am just respecting her wishes because I respect Sensei." Hachiman defended. Yumiko then spoke again. "If she ever threatens you with violence, just tell me. Am I clear?" 'She sounds like my mom when she berates me.' Hachiman thought. "I will, mom." Teased the fish eyed male.
The remark was so effective that it made Yumiko blush. "I'm not your mother you dolt!" She punched his right arm. Yui was taken aback by the behavior of her friend towards the enigmatic clubmate of his. 'I haven't seen Yumiko like this before.' The pinkette thought.
Hachiman, having enough of the blonde's antics, shooed her away. "Go back to your clique, Hayama looks like he has something to tell you." The said blonde perked up, and acted like a little kid. "R-right, later Hikio!" 'That takes care of her.' Hachiman thought. Turning towards Yui, Hachiman started to speak again. "So, let's go to the clubroom?"
"Sure!" The pinkette drags Hachiman's arm. 'What's with girls and dragging? Am I just like their handbags?'
The two walked towards the clubroom, with Yui actively trying to get the male into a small talk. Hachiman on the other hand, was actively trying to avoid any sort of small talk.
He is currently failing.
"So, Hikki, how do you know Yumiko?!" The girl asked. "I wanted to know because I haven't seen her act like that with anybody else!"
'Guess their friendship is as superficial as I observe it huh?' He thought to himself. "I know Miura because her dad is the reason why Komachi is still alive. But the interaction we had earlier was our first interaction in two years. Most of the time when I see her, she just glares at me like I did her dirty or something." Yui, not knowing the name he spoke about, asked him about it.
"Who's Komachi?"
"She's the best little sister in the world." Hachiman quickly replied, that Yui was startled.
"Hikki! You make it sound like you're a siscon!" His trademark ahoge twitched, showing his disdain towards the said term. "I won't confirm or deny whatever you said about me, Yuigahama-san."
"See, that's what a siscon would say!" Yui exclaimed. Seeing her beloved Yukinon in front of their club room, she sprinted towards the ravenette while screaming the nickname she gave her. "Yukinon!" Said girl, who was peeking through the tiny gap on the door, was not prepared for the glomping she received.
"Yuigahama-san!" Yukino raised her voice. "If my hands weren't holding on the door, we both would have fallen and suffered injuries." She berated the pinkette.
"She's right Yuigahama-san, be careful with glomping people." Chimed Hachiman, who just caught up with the two. Yui just pouted at the two.
"Ara Hikigaya-kun, you look more dead than usual, especially your eyes." Yukino 'greeted'. Hachiman rolled his eyes but responded to her greeting. "Good afternoon to you as well, Miss "I didn't know how they measure a desert."" Hachiman even did air quotes to add insult to injury.
And it got the desired effect, Yukino, who was smiling when she spoke, was now looking at him in annoyance. "It was just one time Hikigaya-kun."
"Then next time at least be cordial enough to come up with a proper greeting." Hachiman finished. "Why are you outside the clubroom? It isn't locked is it?"
"No." Both Yui and Hachiman heard the ravenette sigh. "You guys should see for yourselves." The two complied. Looking at the small gap Yukino was peeking in, Hachiman heard a somewhat villainous cackle.
Inside was a silver haired large teenager, who was wearing a brown long coat. The coat swayed with the wind, which made the wearer think it was cool.
'Not MENACING in the slightest.' Hachiman thought.(2) Knowing that delaying the inevitable is just wasting time, he slid the door open and confronted the cackling teenager. "Oi, stop cackling like a villain." The said figure didn't heed Hachiman's words. Instead, he turned around and laughed once more.
"There you are, I have been waiting for this moment." The silver haired teenager adjusted his glasses, thinking along the lines of being cool and all. "It's been a long time, my comrade Hachiman!"
All Hachiman could do was facepalm 'This is going to be stressful.'
"You're too early for someone that'll get butchered." Hachiman pointed out to the silver haired teen named Zaimokuza. "Are you sure you can take all the harsh criticisms that we will say? Yukinoshita's tongue is sharper than what you think."
"Call it whatever you want Hikigaya-kun, I just don't see the need for sugarcoating my words." Replied Yukino, who was not amused with Hachiman's comment. "So, I guess we should start." Coughing to clear her voice (or flexing her muscles before beating someone up, Hachiman thought.), Yukino once again spoke. "This is trash, the arrangement of the sentences not only makes it harder to read, but also comes off as someone showing off his vocabulary."
Zaimokuza, called Chuuni-chan by Yui, felt an arrow strike his heart.
"Also, the usage of kanji here is very peculiar, you write older kanji that makes it look more ambiguous. If you wanted to make it ambiguous, then it's better for you to learn how to fix your grammar than to use archaic symbols."
Another arrow struck the poor Chuuni's heart.
"Also, why the hell is the heroine taking off her clothes in this scene?!" Questioned Yukino, irate at the descriptive writing about the heroine taking off her clothes.
"A-ah! That's needed for the fanservice!" The silver haired teen waved his arms in defense. Yukino just shook her head in disgust and disappointment.
"You better abandon writing novels at this point, and just learn basic grammar. Once you've done that, you might have a better chance at writing." A third arrow struck true to Zaimokuza's battered heart. "How about you, Yuigahama-san? Do you have something to say?"
Yui laughed sheepishly. 'She didn't read it at all!' The fish eyed teen thought. "Uh… you know a lot of difficult kanji!" While not really an insult, it still sounded as an insult for the silver haired male. He grabbed his chest with his right hand and then clenched it.
Sensing Yui's silence as a cue for him to speak, Hachiman shared his two cents. "So, did you just try to apply Wataru Watari's work in an Isekai setting?" Damage of untold proportions hit Zaimokuza. If Yukino's words were arrows, the single sentence Hachiman uttered was a .50 BMG round that was shot point blank to the Chuuni's torso, shredding his body figuratively.(3)
"Kuh!" Zaimokuza sprawled unto the ground, rolling and crying. Yui, Yukino, and even Hachiman cringed at the display of the teen. After calming down, Zaimokuza thanked the trio for their feedback. Since there was no more requests after Zaimokuza, the members of the service club left the room.
Once they reached the school gates, the silver haired teen asked Hachiman. "Hachiman, would you give me your audience once again if I complete the literary masterpiece that I'm writing?" Zaimokuza asked the fish eyed male.
"Are you a masochist by any chance? Would you still want to hear Yukinoshita's words?" Replied Hachiman. The beefy teen smirked and adjusted his glasses. "If that was enough to bring me to grave, I wouldn't have conquered the lands that I've set my sights to."
"Sure, I'd listen to it once you're done." Satisfied, Zaimokuza bid farewell to the trio before walking off. 'Not only he has Chuunibyou(4), Zaimokuza also has a writer's syndrome.' Thought Hachiman. Saying goodbye to his club mates, he walked in the opposite direction the two were going. 'I don't want to go home yet. I think I'll hit the mall to look for something to do.' Hachiman walked towards the nearest mall.
The orange skies of Chiba is a beautiful sight to behold. Hachiman observed. As he reached the mall, he noticed a library that he never saw before. Deciding to check it out, he entered the establishment to check it out.
The place, which looked like a library from the outside, was actually a café that also doubles as a bookstore. Dim yellow lights hang from an impressive chandelier that encompasses the whole place. The style of the grand staircase in the center of the building reminded Hachiman of the Victorian era. The place smells of old books, which add to the coziness of the place.
Inquiring about the place, Hachiman learned that this place opened just a week ago. 'It's impressive to have biblichor for a newly established place.(5)' Hachiman thought. Also, since this is a bookstore, if you ever liked the book you are reading, then you could certainly purchase it and take it home. 'I could enjoy this place.' Hachiman ordered a cup of coffee, then asked for a ridiculous amounts of sugar. The amount he requested made the barista worry for his health. Finding an open spot, Hachiman left his bag to browse for a book worth reading.
Hachiman loved reading about psychology. His father, who aspired to be a psychologist before getting slaved into labor, had amassed a massive collection of books about the wonders of psychology and the human mind. Grabbing a random book, he sat down and started reading.
33 Strategies of War, was the book Hachiman picked up.
Too absorbed in the book, he only stopped because he heard a voice too close for comfort. "A psychology book huh? Nice to see that there are still youth who enjoy reading about such topics. Most of them read romance or the trash they call as light novel." Put off by the offhand remark about light novels, he stopped reading to observe the source of the voice.
Dead eyes met blue, steeled eyes.
"Ara, did I disturb you?" The owner of the said eyes, clearly a woman, asked. Hachiman, who observed the face of the speaker came in to a conclusion. 'She looks scarily similar to Yukinoshita. Maybe she's her sister or cousin? But the rant earlier hints to an older age. Either she's a young aunt of Yukinoshita or she's her mother.' Hachiman thought. Remembering that he was asked a question, he answered the woman sitting across him. "No, not really Ma'am. I just happened to hear your little rant."
The woman, who was wearing a traditional purple yukata, with a flower pattern, spoke again. "Sorry for that. I just can't help myself when I saw you what you are reading." Observing the young man in front of her, she noticed the emblem of Soubu High. "Oh, you study at Sobu High? My daughter is currently studying there too."
Hachiman blurted out a compliment. "Daughter? You don't look like a mother at all to me." Unprepared for the sudden compliment coming from the teen, the woman blushed a bit. 'So this is the power of an influential figure. That compliment would make even Hiratsuka-sensei flustered.' Mused Hachiman.
"I believe I don't know your name." The woman spoke again. "I am Yukinoshita Fuyume, nice to meet you, Mr…"
"Hikigaya Hachiman." Interjected Hachiman. Bowing after the introduction, the two talked about their lives as the Matriarch of the Yukinoshita household shared stories of a young Yukino becoming a snowman because of her sister.
'Since she wasn't asking, I guess I don't need to bring up that I knew her daughter.' Hachiman thought while listening to the story. 'At first I thought that Yukinoshita's mother would be an uptight person, but I guess she is cool to hang around with.'
"So, when we arrived, my younger daughter was covered in thick snow that she looked like a boulder. I had to scold her sister for hours that night." Laughed Fuyume. They continued to talk some more, until a man in a tuxedo came beside Fuyume to say something. "It's time to go, Ma'am." Sighing, she started to speak her farewell. "Well, I had fun talking to you, Hikigaya-kun. But unfortunately, it's time for me to go." Standing up, the woman was supposed to walk but Hachiman asked a question.
"Would you be here tomorrow, Yukinoshita-san? It was so nice to have your opinion regarding some topics." Hachiman liked the presence of Yukino's mother. 'Why did I ask if she would be here tomorrow? Of course she wouldn't be here, she's a busy person!' Hachiman realized. 'Did I really just ask that?'
"Fufufu…" Came the mischievous laugh from the woman. "Who knows? Maybe I'll be here, maybe not." Hachiman saw the glint on her eyes. 'I think that means no… whatever, I don't even know the reason why I asked.'
"Then I'll see you next time, Yukinoshita-san." Hachiman stood up to bow. The woman did the same before leaving the premises. 'What an interesting young man.'
"Okay, let me get this clear." Hachiman voiced out. "Totsuka-san here, wants her to help us become better at tennis."
"For the last time, Hikki! Sai-chan is a boy!" Yuigahama exclaimed. 'Really? The gods have abandoned us!' Thought the fish eyed teen. "And yeah! Sai-chan wants us to help him become better at tennis!" Hachiman turned his looks towards the silver haired teen. 'I really can't believe that he's not a girl!'
Yukino, who was silent the whole ordeal, spoke. "Then we'll do our best to help you. Let's start tomorrow with training your body. We'll do exercises to help you get more agile and serve stronger as you requested." Hachiman noticed the smirk Yukino had the moment she finished speaking. 'This won't be good for Totsuka.'
Said tomorrow came, to which Hachiman's free time err lunch time was sacrificed. The service club plus Totsuka gathered on the Tennis court to start Totsuka's training regimen. Yukino reasoned that Totsuka needed to do pushups for his forearms to get stronger. Even Hachiman wasn't spared from Yukino's wrath. "Totsuka-san would feel better if someone accompanied him while doing reps." Is what Yukino reasoned with.
So Totsuka and by extension Hachiman, was doing their third set of pushups. "Hah… hah…" The silver haired panted. "How are you not tired yet, Hachiman?" He managed to ask between bated breaths. Hachiman, who was on his fiftieth rep, replied casually. "Compared to what I do when I work out, this is a light exercise."
Surprised at the information the fish eyed teen has given, Yukino quipped. "So, a lower life form like you has hobbies other than being a creep huh?" Hachiman just rolled his eyes upon hearing it. After a few more minutes, a winded Hachiman and a tired Totsuka stopped exercising.
Being the nice girl she is, Yui handed the two their water bottles. "Good work, Hikki, Sai-chan!" Cheered the pinkette. Hachiman grunted as thanks, while Totsuka muttered a thank you.
"Should we start practicing some serves?" Asked the ravenette, who was stretching herself a bit. Before they could start however, a female's voice resounded the court. "Eh? You guys are using the court Hikio?"
Hachiman, could only facepalm. He can sense the impending stress that Yumiko and her clique would bring. "Can we also play? It's been a month since I last played tennis!" Exclaimed the blonde. "Ne, Hikio, we can play right?"
"Go and ask Yukinoshita-san, she is the one in charge of this training." Hachiman spotted a silver blur coming towards him. "Hachiman!" The silver haired exclaimed. "I've been looking for you since lunch, why are you here?"
"Club stuff Saki." Silver haired now known as Saki was confused. "Why would you guys be here for club stuff?"
"Totsuka-san asked for our help. This is Yukinoshita-san's way to help him." Answered Hachiman, who was tending to the blonde.
"Why can't we play?! Doesn't Totsuka need someone to play against?" Shouted Yumiko, who was angry because Yukino rejected her proposal. "This is bull!"
"Now now Yumiko, just calm down." Hayama, the ever mediator of the clique, spoke up. "Isn't it fine for us to play, Yukino-san? Yumiko was right, Totsuka-san would need to experience competition."
Becoming annoyed by the use of her first name, Yukino fired back. "We are the ones using the court right now. If you have no business here, then I suggest you to scram. Also, don't call me by my first name, Hayama-kun."
"How about this, we'll play doubles, and whoever wins will get the right to use the court." Yumiko had another proposal.
"The faculty would think that we are just playing around." Yukino spoke. Yui was observing on the side, looking tense as her friends are fighting. 'Can't we just get along?' Thought the pinkette.
"Heh? So Yukinoshita's are afraid of losing huh?" Hachiman, watched Yukino get baited into playing against Yumiko and Hayama.
"Since you dragged my family unto this…" Yukino popped her neck, an action that was unladylike to the observing Hachiman. "I have no choice but to show you the difference of ours." Yukino grabbed a racket, and instructed Totsuka to serve. "Three sets. If we win, you and your people will go back to wherever you came from."
"And if we win, we get the right to use the court and you guys will go away." Yumiko replied. Yui, knowing that her blonde friend was good, warned the ravenette. "Be carefull Yukinon! Yumiko used to play on tournaments when she was on middle school!"
Meanwhile on the sidelines, Hachiman raised a question to the woman beside him. "Are you fine with this, Hiratsuka-sensei?" The said woman, who is excited with the upcoming match, replied to him. "It's fine, a good ol' fashioned battle never hurt anybody!"
"This isn't one of the shounen manga you loved reading when you were young Sensei." As soon as he spoke, he felt his left arm hurt. "Are you insinuating that I am not young?" Hiratsuka asked, with a raised fist. "Besides, what Miura said couldn't be further from the truth. Totsuka needs to experience an actual match. And just what Yuigahama said, Miura played on tournaments, so that means she's decent enough. Totsuka gets experience, while Miura gets her chance to play again! It's killing two birds with one bullet!" Finished the excited teacher.
'I'd ignore the violent quote she said.' Hachiman thought. The set went on and the Yukino/Totsuka team won the first set.
The second set however, they were crushed by Miura's insanely fast serves. Coupled with the fact that Yukino, however talented she was, lacked the stamina to keep up with her talents. The fatigued Yukino huffed and puffed when Yui pleaded Yumiko for a break. Yui hurried to Yukino's side and gave her a water bottle.
Hachiman, knowing that they'll lose at this rate, walked to where the tired female is. "You sure you can finish the match?" He asked. The tired teen, didn't even look at his direction and spoke. "Yes I am sure, so I suggest you just stand back and watch how I do it, Hikigaya-kun." The Fish eyed teen noticed the slur in her speech. Sighing, he grabbed the racket Yukinoshita was holding.
"What are you doing Hikigaya-kun?!" The ravenette protested.
"I'm subbing for you, Yukinoshita-san. You look like you're going to topple over if you continued to play." Too tired to even argue, Yukino just agreed at what her club mate stated. "Then, please win for the club, Hikigaya-kun."
Taking off the jacket he is currently wearing, Hachiman was left with a white shirt. "Hoh? Hikio is going to play? I've played against him before, and I crushed him easily!" Gloated Yumiko. Hachiman not paying attention to the blonde, looked at the score. 'It's currently love-30, in favor of Yumi and Hayama. I should at least be able to drag it long enough for their strength to run out.' "So, who's serving?" Hachiman asked the silver haired partner of his. "I am." The meek reply of the teen.
Totsuka assumed the position, and the play resumed. The ball bounced to Yumiko's side of the court, which she easily returned, towards Hachiman, who was waiting for the ball. With a loud swish, the ball went back to Yumiko/Hayama's court in a split second. Unable to do anything but gawk, the blonde was able to utter a question. "What the hell was that?!"
"Damn,I used too much strength there. It's out." Hachiman pointed out. The score is currently 40-love, and Miura is the one serving. "Get ready for the third set!" Exclaimed the blonde as she served the ball.
In a combination of skill and absolute luck, Totsuka was able to receive the serve and return it. Hayama, who was not prepared for such thing happening, wasn't able to receive it. "Nice one Totsuka-san." Hachiman congratulates. '40-15. Judging Hayama's stance, he would send the ball to me.' His prediction turning right, Hachiman returned the tennis ball like he was the one serving the ball. The ball ricocheted a few more times before stopping.
'That's some serious strength.' Thought Hayama. The score is now 30-40, with Hachiman serving the ball. "You were right Miura, you used to crush me when we played." Hachiman spoke as he dribbled the ball. Yumiko, ignoring that Hachiman used didn't call her as she liked, asked a question. "What of it?"
"You only won because I wanted to." Hachiman served with insane force that a large gust of wind blew past Yumiko's face as the ball bounced in front of her and passed her.
Set two ended with the Hayama/Yumiko pair netting two consecutive points.
With the final set starting, Hachiman felt the heat. 'It's so hot that I'm sweating so much. Should I take my shirt off?' Feeling inconvenienced, Hachiman decided to take off his shirt.
Needless to say the girls watching saw the best eye candy they've ever had so far.
Hachiman's ripped body, was a sight to behold. Yukino, who has recovered, was blushing madly. So as Yui, who wasn't prepared to see the chiseled body of her club mate. Saki was faring no better, making the effort of putting hands on her face, but leaving an eyehole for her to ogle the specimen that is Hachiman's upper body.
Even Hiratsuka-sensei was blushing, who would've thought.
Yumiko, who was flustered at the sight in front of her, complained to Hachiman. "Oi Hikio! That's so unfair!" To Hachiman, Yumiko was not complaining at all.
'He's body's much better than mine.' Observed Hayama. Totsuka, who was beside the topless teen. Had thoughts too. 'Hachiman's body is so ripped.'
Not much happened after that. With Miura distracted, she wasn't able to focus as she was focusing on something else. Namely Hachiman's ripped torso that was glistening with sweat. Hachiman quickly finished the set with Yumiko and Hayama unable to score a point.
Hachiman who noticed the intense stares and much more intense blushes on the face of his acquaintances, quickly grabbed his shirt and ran towards the locker room, leaving red faced teenagers in his wake.
(1) Kobore, when translated to English, means spill.
(2) Come on, do I really need to explain this? Well if I do, it's another Jojo's bizarre adventure reference.
(3) .50 BMG, or most commonly known as 50 cal, is the biggest round of ammunition that is not artillery fire. Commonly used in machine guns, sniper rifles, and the people's favorite, the Desert Eagle. They say that 50 cal contains so much force that it can pulverize a human torso even if it doesn't hit it, if fired point blank.
(4) Chuunibyou, also known as the eigth grade syndrome, is a state where a person thinks he/she is living a fictional life. That's the best I could explain the thing.
(5) Biblichor is the term used to describe the smell of old, dusty books.
What happened between Yumiko and Hachiman? Will Yukimom show up to the café? Hell, would Yukimom participate in the 8Bowl to get some piece of that Hikigaya ass? Why does the author doesn't have an update schedule? All of that and more on the next chapters of this story.
A/N: What's up! Here's the latest chapter of Hachiman Becoming Better!
Thanks for all the support so far! I appreciate it!
Now onto some things:
A review pointed out that there's a separate section for crossovers since he thought that this is a crossover with Love is War. To which I'll say that this ain't it chief! I might have introduced the Love is War cast last chapter and said I would expound on the relation between Hachiman and Miyuki, but there's no reason for it to be a proper crossover right? Let's just call them guests, that appear once or twice an anime season. Just like beach episodes or hot spring or festival episodes. And I don't think I'll be able to write Love is War X OreGairu as good as ZeroXSEED does, he's one of my favorite authors to be honest. GO AND READ HIS WORKS!
I'll give yeah, there are crossover elements from other series like Love is War, Infinite Stratos and the likes, but I'm just giving the story aa bit more flavor as we all know the Oregairu cast at this point. We all know what happened and we all have an idea about the personalities of our beloved characters.
Have you guys read The Dark Imperial's fanfic? Where he is answering what would happen if Hachiman never had parents. Damn he is good, and I think it's going to be much, much better with the coming chapters.
Also, Ivanov117's work, have you guys read it? Damn that shit is good! I'm very much liking the direction of that story and my favorite chapter is the chapter where Yukino and Yumiko fought. Damn, Ivan can really write huh? I won't hold a candle to the talented writers we have on this site.
Well, I'll update Misunderstood next, that fic only has a chapter or two left. Then I can move on to either Yui/Hikki, Yukino/Hachiman, or even Iroha/Hachiman. Who knows, I might post the much more aggressive 8bowl where the girls travel back in time, to where they didn't win yet, and fight for Hachiman.
Anyway, leave a review if you have something to say, Follow and Fave if you liked!
