Obey

Characters: Shachi, Penguin. Rating: K+. Warnings: None

"Go on!"

The seagull cawed, loudly and obnoxiously, and didn't move. Shachi was about ready to stab it - would make a nice change from their predominantly fish-based diet - in frustration. The blasted bird had perched itself on top of the mast, decorated the mast, and was now pecking at his hand when he tried to unfurl the sail.

"You are going to be supper," he promised it, voice little more than a growl.

Being a Grand Line native, a pirate threatening to make it into some nice fried bird-steak didn't seem to faze the damn thing at all.

Below him, there was laughter. His nakama, oh-so-helpful as they were, seemed more interested in finding amusement at his predicament than offering any help at all. Well, no bird-steak for them tonight. It was going to be his. All his.

Unless Law decided he wanted some because he wasn't allowed up the mast, and Shachi hadn't heard his voice in amongst the laughter. Also, he was the captain and if he didn't ask, he'd just take with a Room and a smirk. So he'd be sharing bird-steak with Law.

None for Penguin. Absolutely none. The traitor had laughed hardest and longest and despite being up the mast with him hadn't been pecked once. It was decidedly unfair.

"You think you can kill it?" his best friend asked, gulping for air in between laughs. "You can't even- hah- move it!"

"That just makes it easier to kill," Shachi grumbled, reaching inside his boiler suit for his knife. "Keep staying still, you damn bird, and be dinner."

It jumped to the side. One, single hop.

Then it stopped, stared, and there was definitely a challenge in that beady eye. Shachi snarled.

"What's taking so long?" Law sounded unimpressed. Better than amusement, at least. "Get that sail down so we can save fuel."

"As soon as I murder this damn bird," Shachi promised through gritted teeth. Next to him, Penguin choked on his laughter.

"Hey, bird," he cackled. "Shoo."

With a single caw, much less obnoxious and almost agreeing, it finally - finally - spread its wings and left.

Knife still in hand, Shachi whirled around to face Penguin and almost lost his grip on the mast.

"How come it obeyed you?" he demanded.

"Uh, knife?" Penguin ducked down, away from the blade. "And clearly it knows who's worth listening to around here, and it's not you."

Shachi faked a stab at him - Penguin didn't even bother to let his skin flicker black as his armament haki blocked it, the bastard - before putting the knife away.

"Watch it," he warned, as though he'd ever do anything to his all-but-brother. The tongue sticking out at him told him Penguin knew exactly how safe he was.

"Penguin. Shachi. Sail."

Law's tone had moved from unimpressed to very unimpressed. Scowling at the seagull's decorations, they got back to work.

So, hi? I'm back for at least a little while! This and the next few instalments are all from drabble prompts I received on tumblr (which I'm still accepting, so if you want more content... that might help!), and are therefore short and, well, drabble-y, but it's been great to play around in this sandbox again and I'm hoping my muses are waking back up for this series! That being said, I'm currently doing another degree, so honestly I couldn't tell you how long I'll be around for before uni swallows me up again. But it's nice to be back!

Thanks for reading!
