Part 2
The bastard! How dare he say something like that to Nova! With one last glare directed straight at my great uncle, I turn and sprint after her. "Nova!" I yell, as I reach the grand double doors leading to the street. Please, don't be on a roof somewhere. I know she goes to the rooftops whenever she wants to be alone to think. But it always takes a few hours to find her.
I jog down the hill, to the entry gate. But what I see, stops me dead in my tracks.
A puddle of blood, lays inches from the toe of my shoe. As I follow the trail, my heart constricts in my throat. Laying there, covered in blood, is Nova. Her right hand lays in the puddle, her wrist bent at an odd angle. Her black, jaw-length hair is stuck to her face as the right half of her face is laying on the pavement. Her legs lay in front of her, while her left arm is splayed to the side of her body.
"N-no! Please no... Nova?" I kneel next to her, following the trail of blood, up to her right side. I see a dark gash under her ribs, bleeding through a red soaked rip in her t-shirt. "Hugh! Simon! Help!" I yell, as I try and find a pulse. Her skin is pale, and her breathing is shallow. "Please, Nova, please..."
I turn when I hear a commotion coming from behind me. Rushing this way, comes my dads, both gasping and frantic. "Adrian! What-" They stop when I look up from Nova's broken body. "We'll call an ambulance and-"
"No," I say while shaking my head, as I hook my left arm under her back and my right under her legs. I stand up slowly, cradaling her. Careful with her broken wrist, I bring her arms up trying to not cause her any more pain. "I'll take her, it'll be faster." Simon walks slowly toward me, as if I'm a hurt puppy.
"Adrian, we get you're concerned, but-" I look up, and Simon must see something on my face, because he stops. "We'll meet you at the hospital, be safe." I nod, and soon I'm jumping through the city towards the hospital. The springs on my feet, propelling me and Nova's limp body through the city. Similar to when I took Max this way, the journey seems to take an eternity. I watch as Nova grows paler by the second, as I feel her blood seep into my shirt.
"Hang on, Nova. Almost there..." The hospital is three blocks away, when I feel Nova move. Her eyes flutter, to look at me blearily. "Adrian?" I glance down, seeing her barely-open eyes staring up at me. "Yes, it's me, Nova. Please just-" I'm interrupted by her whispering, "I'm... so... so... sorry." One more building, "We're almost there, stay with me."
I burst through the Emergency Room doors, yelling for a doctor. I must look mad, covered in blood with a pale Nova in my arms. I only let her go, to put her on a stretcher. As the nurses and doctors roll her toward surgery, I hear Simon and Hugh come behind me. A heavy hand lands on my shoulder, guiding me to a red plastic seat. We sit there for what seems like ages, but it was probably only an hour.
Nova, the person who put everything on the line, to save me and the city. The girl who watches my art, as if she's watching magic. The girl who always tries to be strong. I put my head in my hands, knocking my glasses ascew. The gray linoleum of the waiting room floor gradually blurs, as the tears I've been trying to hold back fill my eyes.
This was going to be the night. The ring box in my back pocket feels like a rock now. My dads guide my zombie-like to go change my clothes, because my whole front is covered in blood. I don't want the food or the coffee that my dads offer me, though. I just want to know that Nova's safe. And I want to know who did this to her.
I think I'm going to end this at 3 parts. But, if wanted, I do have an idea to continue it. Soo, review: if you like it, if you don't like it, what it needs. That's it, thanks for reading. Have a great day.
