Still stunned by the time Rin expressed the need to stop for the night Kagome sat against the dragons watching as Rin made a fire and went about foraging for food.
Kagome found herself unable to eat when it was offered to her and huddled against the warmth of An and Un as a chill began to settle in her bones despite the warm air.
Rin fell asleep beside her soon after she had eaten leaving Kagome to ponder what exactly had happened.
Although Sesshomaru seemed to not be paying any attention he was always alert to his surroundings, always searching and taking in the environment he was in to assess his situation even at times of seeming peace.
The smell of death still lingered on the humans skin but was slowly wafting away. She shivered but was sweating at the same time, a cold sweat. Neither Rin nor Jaken had had such ill effects after being resurrected so he wondered if maybe she had been gone to long.
Perhaps that had something to do with her current situation. On the other hand she appeared genuinely distressed. Her emotional state could be contributing to her physical condition.
Sesshomaru would not fault her for that, it was harrowing to come to terms with your own demise. The knowledge that she had in fact been dead and had died in a violent manner was not something a person would take lightly.
It would have been more discerning if she had simply brushed it off and went on her merry way as she seemed to do compartmentalizing it away. The events that had occurred however seemed to be a bit much for her to handle at the moment.
Hearing her give a small sob he scented her tears. Opening his eyes he saw her draw her legs up and wrap her arms around her knees.
"I want to go home." She whispered out.
"You will be returned to the village by tomorrow." Sesshomaru said. Watching as she rested her chin on her knees and stared into the snapping fire she sighed.
"It was supposed to be different, when I died. I was so sure of what was going to happen but I just…made it up." She sniffled out. "There was nothing. Just nothing."
"Your soul had yet to be taken to the underworld by the demons who gather the departed." Sesshomaru stated. "Tensaiga grants me the ability to see those particular demons and cut them down. Once they are gone a person is revived."
"Sesshomaru, do you wish you could see your father?" Kagome asked suddenly catching him somewhat off guard although he didn't show it.
Initially he wasn't going to answer, at its base, it was a ridiculous question but not one without basis. Curious as to where she was going with it he nodded his head once.
"I wish I could see mine too. I thought when I died I would, that he would be waiting for me." Kagome closed her eyes as more tears fell.
"Sleep." Sesshomaru said somewhat taken aback by what she had said. Inuyashas companion seemed just like his aforementioned brother.
She charged without thinking, spoke out of turn saying ridiculous things, and fought when the odds were clearly stacked against her.
He hadn't thought she was capable of such deep thought, any human actually. At times Rin had surprised him making him think that some humans were able to organize some intelligent thoughts.
"Thank you, for letting me come with you." Kagome said lying down beside Rin.
"You're welcome." He said softly. His tone and words seemed to drape around her like a blanket and she soon drifted off to sleep.
Her words lingered with Sesshomaru throughout the night. He decided he wanted to study her, see what she was all about to sate his damn curiosity that he had yet to outgrow.
Staring at the night sky through the trees he would take her the longer way around on their way to the village to be able to watch her and figure her out.
