As they traveled Kagome began to notice that Sesshomaru was stopping more to let them take breaks to rest or eat.

The closer they got to the village the more Kagome wished they could go back to the beginning of their little journey together.

The terrain became familiar to her as they stopped for the night in a cave she had used on more than one occasion with Inuyasha and the others when it rained.

Settling Rin down for the night she told her a fairytale story that she enjoyed hearing and kept asking to be retold.

"Kagome, are you leaving us soon?" Rin asked.

"Yeah. I have to. I have to find the jewel shards and stop Naraku." She said.

"But you can do that with us." Rin replied.

"I started that journey with Inuyasha, Shippo, Miroku, Sango, and Kirara. We need to finish it together. It's not that I don't want to stay with you, this very important thing is calling me away." Kagome explained.

"Rin understands but maybe sometimes you can come with us?" She ventured. "Lord Sesshomaru doesn't want you to go either. Not An-Un or even Jaken. We'll miss you."

"I'll miss you too. Go to sleep Rin." Kagome said sighing. Swallowing hard Kagome closed her eyes. Once Rin was asleep she stood and went to the cave mouth.

Sesshomaru had gone off leaving them along with Jaken and the dragons. Kagome thought what it would be like if she could stay with them but knew at this particular moment in time that it wasn't possible.

Sitting back against the wall she felt herself doze off finding herself in a dreamscape where both groups were going down opposite paths. She was standing at a fork in the road and didn't know who to go with.

Awaking she saw that Sesshomaru had returned.

"Welcome back." She said sleepily stretching.

"Thank you."

"You're welcome." Smirking at him she sighed still on the fringes of her dream. "Rin doesn't want me to go back to the village. I told her that I have to finish my journey with Inuyasha before I could."

"Hm." Sesshomaru replied.

"When this is all over with the jewel shards and Naraku, would it be alright if I continued to travel with you Sesshomaru?" Kagome asked.

"If that is what you want to do." He said. "It is your choice."

"Do you want me to?" Kagome questioned. Being met with silence she read his body language instead.

He wasn't guarded as he sat opposite her and held her gaze with some sort of fondness that she had yet to see.

Standing she went over to him. "Your actions always speak louder than your words. Do you know that?" Reaching out her hand towards him she expected him to flinch away but he remained still.

Placing her hand to cup his cheek neither broke their eye contact as they seemed to gauge the others reaction. Similarly Sesshomaru mirrored her action.

Kagome had to steady her breath at the sensation his skin felt against hers. He was warm and comforting.

Inching her fingers up she passed them over his crescent moon taking in his raw beauty, for Sesshomaru was an amazing creature.

"Your heart is beating faster and your breathing is erratic." He noted.

"You noticed, huh?" Feeling her face ignite with a blush he gave a curt nod. "I like how this makes me feel, being this close to you."

"Kagome, tell me what it is about human females that undo demon males so thoroughly?" He asked.

"I have no idea." She replied back softly. Deciding to take the opportunity and deal with the consequences later she leaned forward pressing her lips to his.

At that gesture she felt him stiffen before relaxing. Sesshomaru was by all accounts taken by surprise. Feeling his arm wrap around her waist he pulled her closer to him but not to close due to his armor.

Breaking their kiss Kagome bit at her lower lip.

"Thank you for that." She whispered.

Expecting him to reply as he usually did she was the one taken aback when he closed the gap between them to reclaim her mouth with his.

Moving her hand back she entangled her fingers in his silky locks and traced the point of his ear. Her breath came out in small puffs as Sesshomaru swiped his tongue across her lips before letting out a soft growl as if he were content.

Kagome pulled away from him slightly to rest her forehead against his.

"You are everything that I would want in a mate." He said softly.

"Even though I am a human?" She smirked at him teasingly.

"I was wrong, at least about some of you."

"Is it because your father was with Inuyasha's mother?" Kagome ventured.

"Humans took my father away, a childish notion but one I adopted none the less, so I hated all of your kind." He replied. "It was beyond my understanding how something so fleeting and weak could be his downfall, how he could allow himself to be that weak himself."

Letting out a soft sigh as he spoke Kagome rubbed at his neck with her nails gently as he continued.

"I know now that it was not weakness that he possessed but a strength that until recently I could not comprehend." Sesshomaru held her gaze with his and let out his own sigh. "Tell Inuyasha and the others that I will lend all of you my strength to defeat Naraku."

"You're going to help us?" Kagome whispered out.

"I want you with me. As soon as Narakus presence is purged from the land we can may continue on as we please." Sesshomaru said. Smiling widely Kagome nodded.

"I would like that very much." Pulling her closer to him Kagome settled in his lap to rest her head against him.
