As the group approached the bone eaters well Kagome realized that Sesshomaru didn't know the truth about her or where she was from.

Standing by it she placed her hand on the edge.

"Sesshomaru, I have something to tell you." Kagome said glancing up at him where he had stopped some ways away.

"Jaken, take Rin and the dragons to forage for food." He ordered.

"Mi'lord I must protest." Jaken said. "Ever since the human woman has been tagging along you have been acting strangely. Quite frankly Lord Sesshomaru I do not like what ever spell she has bewitched you with."

"You defy me Jaken?" Sesshomaru challenged.

"No, no never mi'lord. It was a mere observation. Rin, you heard our lord. Lets go." Jaken commanded.

"But I am not hungry." Rin replied looking to Sesshomaru and then to Kagome. "They just want to talk master Jaken, come on. We need to leave them alone."

Taking the reigns on An-Un she led them away with Jaken begrudgingly following behind. Once they were alone Kagome smiled softly at him.

"They are quite a handful." She mused.

"What is it you wish to discuss Kagome?" Sesshomaru inquired.

"I'm not from the village. Where I live is past the well."

"Elaborate."

"Where I live is in the future, give or take five centuries." Kagome explained. "I can travel between here and there thanks to the jewel shards. It's the same place but it is very different."

"I see." Sesshomaru walked closer to her peering down into the dried out well. "Just you, by yourself?"

"So far the only person able to go through is Inuyasha. No one else can. For whatever reason it doesn't let them. It might be because I am Kikyo's reincarnation, the priestess that sealed Inuyasha to the sacred tree."

"If I am not mistaken their relationship was of an intimate nature." Sesshomaru remarked.

"It was." Kagome confirmed.

"Then if you are the reincarnation of the fallen priestess, where does that put you and Inuyasha?" Sesshomaru pressed.

"Friends. I thought there could be something more but all he sees when he looks at me is Kikyo. There is no future in that when he keeps looking to the past." Kagome said.

"I wanted you to know this about me, where I'm from, in case there's a day that I don't come back. I need you and Rin to know that it isn't because I don't want to be here, something is keeping me away."

"I appreciate that." He replied earnestly. "Thank you."

"You're welcome." She smiled up at him.

"Kagome!" Hearing Inuyasha's voice broke her gaze from Sesshomaru settling on her friend.

"Inuyasha, hey. How's it going?" She greeted.

"How's it going? Kagome, I thought you were dead. I found your blood but not your body…what did you do Sesshomaru?!"

"Hold up!" Kagome fired back moving to stand in front of Sesshomaru. "He saved my life. He brought me back here. So, instead of being rude you should thank your brother for making sure I got back alright."

"Ha! Like I would ever! And I don't believe that you did this Sesshomaru out of the goodness of your heart." Inuyasha crossed his arms upturning his nose at him.

"Inuyasha, sit." Kagome commanded crossing her own arms and turning from him. Hearing him fall to the ground amid curses and a brief yelp Kagome was embarrassed. "Sorry."

"Don't be." Sesshomaru said simply turning to walk away.

"Tell Rin I said goodbye and that we'll see each other again soon." Kagome called out. Watching as he walked away she knew that he would relay the message.

Turning back to Inuyasha who still was lying on the ground she sighed out annoyed. "Get up you big baby."

Sitting up quickly with his nose full of dirt she could see he was beyond irritated. "Look, I'm sorry that I've been missing for days and I'm sorry that I sat you in front of Sesshomaru. Lets just forget about this for now and get on with our day."

"I was worried about you. I've been looking for you for days. Sesshomaru must have been masking your scent from me." Inuyasha said softly looking away from her. "I thought I had lost you."

Kneeling down beside him she edged closer to him.

"I am right here Inuyasha. I'm back and everything is okay." Kagome assured.

"Where'd you get those clothes?" He asked suddenly.

"Sesshomaru got them for me. Mine are in rough shape." She said. "Why?"

"No reason." Standing he turned to her. "It doesn't matter, all that matters is you're safe." Offering her his hand she accepted it.

"Thank you." She said standing.

"You're welcome Kagome." Leading her back to the village it made her feel as if Sesshomaru already were a great distance from her.

In truth he was still close by, watching the scene unfold. He could sense the pitiful sadness that washed over Inuyasha, the rejection, the relief, and the longing tinged with suspicion.

He was interested in her aside from what Kagome believed. Narrowing his eyes he felt an intense possessiveness overtake him.

'I should have claimed her in the cave.' He thought out feeling himself tense.

Jealousy was not an emotion he had ever developed a taste for yet there it was on his tongue, bitter enough to taste.

For the time being he would go his own way and allow Kagome to do what she must deciding he would take her for his the next time their paths crossed.

Before that however he felt the need to prove to her that he was the more worthy mate. He doubted that she would approve of him engaging Inuyasha in to a fight.

Coming to a clearing he found Rin lounging against the dragons with Jaken sitting some ways off. Jumping to her feet she walked to him a bit more slowly.

"Lord Sesshomaru, has Kagome left us?" Rin asked sadly.

"For now." He replied deciding the best way to show Kagome he was adequate was to take better care of Rin.

After everything she had done for the girl it would be a dishonor to her to not continue the effort. Besides, Rin had more than proven herself to him as well.

"Rin, from now on if you need anything you will inform me and I will procure it for you." He said. "However, I still expect you to make an effort."

"Yes my lord." She said in all seriousness nodding her head firmly once. Glancing down at her he was suddenly struck with how much she looked like Kagome.

Moving past her he began to walk off knowing they would follow him.
