The peace brought a false sense of security that did not sit well with Sesshomaru. While the others became more relaxed he became more on edge.
"What is wrong?" Kagome finally asked.
"Nothing." He replied cooly.
"Don't lie to me. I can feel how tense you are when there is no reason to be." She said.
"It is too calm, too quiet. Something is coming." Sesshomaru stated.
"The calm before the storm."
"Precisely."
"What do you propose we do?"
"Stay where we are and ready ourselves."
"Okay. That sounds like a good plan." Kagome agreed. "In the meantime there isn't really much we can do except wait it out."
"For now." Watching as Kagome settled beside him to sit he leaned against her slightly. Smiling to herself Kagome reciprocated by resting against him. "I'm glad to see you getting along better with Inuyasha."
"I was never the problem; Inuyasha was." He replied. Sighing Kagome shook her head.
"Regardless the two of you working together will be good for all of us. I don't think we could ever beat Naraku without both of you." She said.
Knowing he would never confirm what she had said she was glad that he didn't deny it either.
"Kagome, I have been curious about something you said after you were brought back by the Tensaiga." Sesshomaru stated.
"Oh no." She giggled out softly. "I was so out of it, I hope I didn't say anything to embarrass myself."
"No. What you said was quite introspective and is what made me want to study you." Sesshomaru replied.
"What did I say?" She asked her own curiosity peaking.
"You told me that you were certain when you died you would see your father, that you were certain something would happen when you died. What is it?"
"Everyday my father would take me to school. I was very small then so he would with walk me, hand in hand." Closing her eyes she smiled gently at the memory. "He would go to work after I was past the gate and he was always there to pick me up later in the day."
Sucking in her breath she held it for a moment before continuing. "I would run to the gate and he would be there until one day he wasn't. After he dropped me off he suffered an accident that killed him. I thought that when I died I would be back at my old school and he would be there waiting for me at the gate. It's something that I wanted so badly to be true that I never thought it wasn't."
"It will be." Sesshomaru said. "Your father will be waiting for you with mine."
"You think so?" Kagome asked sniffling and wiping the tears that had fallen down her cheeks.
"I know my father is, no doubt for the sake of gloating, will be waiting for me."
"No. He is extremely proud of you. You took over for him to protect his family when he couldn't. If anything he will be grateful." She replied. "Maybe Lady Izayoi is with him and she has told him what a wonderful friend you were to her through out her life."
"Will you wait for me?" Sesshomaru asked suddenly. Glancing up at him she saw he had turned his head to look at her. Meeting his golden orbs made her feel as if she were melting.
"Absolutely. Rin and I will be waiting for you." Kagome nodded in agreement. "No matter how long it takes."
"Thank you mate." Sesshomaru said taking her hand in his and entwining their fingers together.
"You're welcome my love." She replied back squeezing his hand tightly. "So, I have had something on my mind as well lately that I want to talk with you about."
"Go on." He encouraged when she stopped talking.
"Okay, I know I said I wanted to wait until we were done with everything going on right now but I've changed my mind. Sesshomaru I'm ready to fully be with you." She said.
"Oh?" Watching as she nodded her head once he had to pry. "What has brought this about?"
"I know that I won't get a third chance and I don't want to regret us not committing to one another. This moment is what we have and we should live in it not thinking what we can do tomorrow." Kagome answered sincerely.
"Kagome as much as I want to take you up on your offer, you were very adamant about waiting. I can assure you that once this is all over and Narakus vile presence is extinguished from this plane of existence we will." Sesshomaru soothed. "We will have our tomorrow and many others after."
"You don't know that." Kagome countered.
"Sex isn't what formed our bond and it is not what will strengthen it. When the time is right then we will be intimate. Even if something were to happen to prevent us from being with one another I have no regrets about our relationship." Sesshomaru said.
"Okay." Kagome relented. "I still want to repay you though for your assistance some time ago."
"Continue to be by my side and care for Rin as well as you do. That is more than I could ever ask for." Leaning down he ghosted his lips against hers. "That in itself means more to me than physically mating you ever could."
Smirking gently Kagome closed the gap placing her lips against his.
