Chapter Five:

While the ride to the rendezvous point was a smooth one, it wasn't an uneventful one, even if the event in question wasn't anything major. Midnight had been eating on some of the jerky she had brought with her for the mission, which was originally for the purpose of being used as either a peace offering or as bait, without her gloves on. Once she was finished, the girl in Nemuri's lap had, while still sleeping, licked Midnight's hands. While Nemuri was a bit grossed out by getting her hands licked and her palms covered with saliva, Mandalay and Ragdoll on the other hand found the scene adorable. By the time the van reached its destination, the sleeping girl had started to wake up, still very tired and quite groggy, but waking up nonetheless.

At the rendezvous point were quite a few people, some of whom were equipped with various kinds of technical stuff… and stuff that could easily be considered animal-training gear. While the need for the latter stuff made the three Heroines exiting the van upset, they knew that the equipment was often necessary considering that the children more often than not acted more like the various animals their Quirks gave them the traits of, due to them having been left to fend for themselves for so long before getting rescued, which usually led to them being out of touch in regards to human behavior. Which came in handy when the time came to take a picture of the reptilian girl's face in order to identify her, by keeping her attention directed towards the camera and still long enough for a picture to be taken with a piece of meat, which was promptly attacked and quickly devoured once the girl ran out of patience, startling some of the tech-guys.

"So. Who is she?" Asked Midnight one of the tech-guys at a computer.

"We're searching through the database via facial recognition. Shouldn't take too long to find a match." Replied the tech-guy.

"Uh huh." While the exchange between Midnight and the tech-guy was happening, the girl in question was chasing another tech-guy, or rather their sandwich (more specifically the rather thick slice of ham at the center of the sandwich) which the tech-guy refused to sacrifice to make the girl stop chasing them. The members of the Wild, Wild Pussycats were also partaking in the chase, namely by trying to increase the distance between the tech-guy and the reptilian girl after their sandwich. The search through the database finished and showed the results by the time the reptilian girl, after quite a few failed attempts, finally managed to get the slice of ham in the tech-guy's sandwich, taking a seat next to Midnight as she started digging into the ham.

"Here we go. Her name is Izuchi Midoriya and her Quirk is registered as Rathian. Mother is Inko Midoriya and her father is Hisashi Midoriya. Her parents have been divorced since she was born." Replied the tech-guy at the computer.

"Huh. So I was right about what creature her Quirk gave her the traits of. The Queen of the Land." Muttered Midnight to herself while frowning, absentmindedly giving the girl in question some head pats before noticing that Izuchi had taken a seat next to the R-rated Hero. "Anything else?"

"Well… according to the data, it took several attempts by her parents for Izuchi here to become part of this world."

"Meaning?"

"It's practically a miracle that she was conceived in the first place as her parents were very incompatible." Stated the tech-guy in a tone and look of slight awe on their face while looking at the holder of the Rathian-Quirk yawning before taking a nap.

"And by incompatible you mean?"

"It was very difficult for her parents to have children together, not impossible mind you, but very difficult nonetheless." Deadpanned the tech-guy.

"Guess they were incompatible in more ways than one huh? You know, considering that they're divorced." The only sounds following Midnight's rather poor comment for a while were the quiet sounds of Izuchi snoozing as quite a few people gave Midnight looks that said 'that was poor taste and you know it' on their faces. Realizing the kind of looks she was receiving, Midnight couldn't really do much except put a hand on her neck sheepishly and apologize. "Sorry. Simply pretend I didn't say that and move on?"

"Agreed. The next step is to search for an appropriate temporary guardian for young Midoriya here. The team and I have forwarded you as the 'on-site recommendation'."

"Me? But I've only had my adoption license for a month or so, why would you people recommend me?" Asked Midnight, who was genuinely surprised. She knew full well that she was good with children but also that her Midnight-persona could definitely cause problems with the media.

"It's mainly because of the fact that the two of you have grown attached to each other in such a short amount of time." Answered the tech-guy bluntly. "I guess congratulations are in order. You're now the legal guardian of Izuchi Midoriya, Midnight."
