No matter how hard they tried, none of them would ever get used to the meatball surgery, the injuries or the constant stream of casualties that came in and out of the 4077. It was an exhausting life in more ways than one, made even more difficult if they lost patients, which, thankfully didn't happen often. But when it did, it was heartbreaking. They didn't watch many of the newsreels that were shown throughout the world; particularly the US, because the media tended to glamorize the Korean War. Only those who had ever been a part of it would understand.
