Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Bright as Lightning. Enjoy the 1500-word chapter. I don't own RWBY, Monty Oum and a few others do.

He found Nora under a pile of rubble and peeking out from the rubble while she started to glance out from her. He slowly started to tug her from the rubble and towards him before he smiled to himself before the roar reminded him. He glanced towards her and frowned as he slowly pulled her from the rubble while more roars joined the chorus.

The monster didn't seem to notice Ren pull Nora across town as he tried his best to defy its notice. It was as they passed the town entrance barely; they heard a noise. Ren started to draw him before he listened for it once more as he did so. The entire thing felt off when it came down to it now. He cleared his throat before he listened to what happened.

It was a whimper. A small noise which might have been under the notice of the monster which gleefully seemed to smash the city. It'd be almost entirely under notice if it wasn't for the fact that both children noticed it. Ren despite himself allowed Nora to tug himself towards it.

Ren didn't hate the source of the voice. There was a simple command and a need to follow what his mother had told him. Nora tugged him forward while he looked inside the house and noticed that there was a child who seemed maybe a year younger or older.

"Hmm," Ren said while he looked at the child who had been snowy white hair and eyes that were a light crimson.

The child seemed to notice them before a scream from the monster showed them something was off. Nora tugged him inside and looked over his shoulder as he did so.

"W-Who are you?" He asked before he was silenced by another roar as he did so.

He slunk into the corner while he gazed outside the window. The monster was sure to double back and finish them all off before anyone was able to do something about it.

He cleared his throat as he did so. These people didn't seem at all to bother him. They were all appearing to be dying soon from what it seemed at this rate.

"I'm Nora." The girl stated before he cleared his throat as he went. "This is Ren." She said with a smile that seemed to be part between a frown and a full-blown smirk.

He nodded before he leaned on the wall in fear at how to speak. His appearance seemed to be rather off since neither noticed it. he didn't speak for a few minutes as he cleared his mind to figure out what he wanted to say.

"Chro." He said with a small smile that seemed at odds with how he felt. "Chro Cerry. I-It sounds weird when you say it." He added before he sighed as he frowned to himself.

"W-We should go before it comes back," Ren said before he started to mentally ponder what to do next. "Now. We need to go. It's coming this way again." Ren said before he looked at Nora as he did so.

He was interested in what to do against the monster as he did so. This place was dust and ash which meant that they were entirely thrown off and left in the remains of the dust and smoke. The monster seemed to have been satisfied with the carnage it had brought as it retreated and left the rest of the Grimm to finish its work at finishing off the rest of its enemies. It didn't help that none of them had stirred.

Nora looked at both Chro and her friend before she tugged them out of the house.

"We can talk w-when we're out of here," Nora said to which she got nods from both as of now.

Chro seemed rather scared for a second as he pondered the options that he had in his mind. This place wasn't to last, he hadn't seen his parents for a few hours as of now. The monsters came in waves which seemed to blanket the entire city in giant waves of soldiers.

He gazed at Ren and Nora. Both looked weird and he couldn't find why he considered that at all. He nodded and let Nora pull him and Ren across town. He said nothing as both were rather interesting. He wanted nothing more than to cry, yet he had seen the monsters find people who did so. They seemed to kill sad people easier than if they weren't.

It scared him more than anything. Monsters who hunted people down if they cried. It was one of the most horrible things he noticed, and it made him more terrified than he was before.

"Why d-did it, hurt people?" Chro asked as he tried to stop his lip from quivering. "We didn't do anything to it, right?" Chro asked with a frown.

"Don't k-know." Chro heard from Nora as they stared at the city.

Flames were dancing across any and everything in the entire area. It almost seemed as if they were in the middle of a monster's lair. The dark beasts seemed to leap onto rubble and paw and claw and screech at anything not one of them. They saw people who didn't get up. Were they sleeping? Why weren't the monsters attacking the people who were sleeping at the second?

"We need to g-go," Chro stated with a frown that did nothing yet deepen. "Maybe there's another t-town that has people who can h-help," Chro stated with tears straining his eyes.

One of the tears seemed to grey before it hit the floor. He raised his hand towards his face to wipe them away before he noticed that his hand was also grey. He stared at Nora and Ren before he noticed they were also grey. He blinked in shock before he noticed the few monsters who had stared at them were now starting to pick at other things.

Did they have powers or something? He had seen the monsters fighting with people who had powers and the powers people were doing things that chased them away.

"R-ren?" Nora asked before she realized that there was something weird about this that scared her. "What's happening?" Nora asked before she frowned to herself and sighed.

Ren simply started to pull them towards a piece of the building, and they followed him with a nod. They were both scared, yet they didn't want him to notice that. They didn't want him to thig they were mad at him or something. The monsters were terrifying, and they didn't want to stay here with either of the monsters.

"R-Ren has P-powers?" Chro asked with a raised eyebrow. "He's stopping the monsters," Chro said as he gazed at the Grimm who all seemed to be stampeding away from them.

It wasn't at all a lie. Ren was protecting both with his powers and the monsters didn't seem to enjoy his colors. It made them wonder if they had powers deep down which also helped and stopped the monsters.

"There are plenty of monsters," Nora stated before he frowned to himself. "We need to check the area for monsters," Nora said to which Chro, and he nodded.

He sighed internally. There wasn't anything he wanted here nor was there any real reason for him to be happy. He was terrified deep down, and he didn't wish to admit it. he didn't want to be in this fashion.

Yet he allowed it to happen as if he wasn't aware of it. He wasn't one to munch his words as to what to do next. Nora and Ren hadn't once prepared for this and neither had he.

He was terrified and he didn't once wish for it to be this way. He had something to do yet he didn't remember what it was.

He sighed to himself before he glanced in her direction. He wasn't one to express it well. He wasn't once one to scare easily.

"Where are the monsters?" Ren questioned to which his friend shared a look at her "There's too many of them to stop." Ren stated before he frowned to himself.

"I don't see many of them aren't in front of the town," Chro stated while he frowned to himself. "We need to handle this. We can't stop them or stop near both Grimm. We need to r-run" Chro stated while he frowned to himself.

Author Notes

Phew. Another chapter is done! I want to point out that the next chapter will be in 2-10 months and will be a lot longer. This story isn't going to hit canon, but it will include the rest of the cast. The next chapter will be 900-6500 words and will show Chro, Nora, and Ren talking at the time. Until then, Lighting Wolf out!
