AN: This part of the story runs alongside chapters 37-39 of Ahsoka and the Rebellion, but only selected events are covered that were not in that story during that part of the timeline. We are getting close to wrapping up this particular novel but still some more to go.

Chapter 41: The Force Itself Has Chosen

Lianna, Ana's palace, 0 ABY 5 months, 1 day, 7 hours

Duchess Ana and Countess Ry awoke on a typically sunny Livornian morning, with Kyall shining down on the lake as the star rose above the horizon. Ry glanced at her lover and smiled, then felt around for her left hand, causing Ana's eyes to open. "Oh, my little Ana, you such a sexy mama, got evy-thing you wanna, and all this jewelry on ya" Ry sang (to the tune of "Psycho" by Post Malone), a little off-key, but it reflected her feelings. Their relationship had grown more physical by this time and they enjoyed each other's company greatly. The sun shone through the window and made the duchess's dark hair shine seductively, matching the black satin gown she was in. Ana purred for a second, glanced at Ry, then made a kissing motion and sound. "Love ya," Ry whispered.

The duchess's abdominals tightened as she sat up, while the countess rubbed her back and then threw her right arm around Ana's shoulder and moved in to kiss her left cheek. They glanced out the picture window and took in the sight for a second.

"So you know what we're doing today, yes?" Ana turned and spoke, smiling, meeting Ry's lips with hers.

"Uh …" Ry pretended to forget, but then chuckled. "To Felucia … a place I'm sure I've never been, despite how long I've lived on Lianna."

"Normally," Ana laughed, "I would say you haven't missed much. But I would be wrong. Dress lightly, the place is hot and steamy. Tell you one thing … I'm rather interested in seeing what Shaak and her crew have done there."

"Yeah," Ry answered in a mutter. "I am too. You know, when I heard she was on the Jedi High Council, I was wondering if she might remember me. Thankfully she didn't and we can start clean."

"I know," Ana smiled. "But we all have things in our past we are less than proud of. I would venture to say she does too."

After a light breakfast, the two boarded a small pod-like craft and took it up to meet the Concordia, which had been getting a full maintenance run-through on the main orbital platform. The pod entered the yacht's hangar bay and landed. As they proceeded to the bridge, Ana met with her longtime captain of the ship.

"Ah, Brandell … we're going to Felucia. I want to take a stationary position beyond the planet's gravity and we'll use a shuttle."

"Yes, milady. I can tell you that Felucia has become most difficult to navigate these days. Sometimes it seems the planet isn't even there, despite the instruments."

"Not to worry, friend. Our hostess has supplied us with a code sequence, so we may safely penetrate the atmosphere."

"Very good, Duchess. Your safety is my paramount concern."

"Thank you, Mr Semenoff. Are we done with the maintenance work?"

"Yes, milady. The ship is now in shape for wherever you want us to take it."

With that, Ana gave him a quick salute. "We leave for the Felucia system now. The countess and I will take the shuttle and inform you when we plan to return to the ship."

"Excellent, milady. May you enjoy the trip."

Felucia, 0 ABY 5 months, 1 day, 8 hours

Soon, Concordia had arrived in-system and stationed itself about 500,000 km from the planet. Ana and Ry had changed into light silk cap-sleeved dresses in solid colors (the Duchess in light green, the Countess in light blue) and fashionable but durable dark boots. They had taken the ship's shuttle craft – a mostly utilitarian vehicle with a two-seat flight deck, a small lounge and galley area, and a single stateroom that could sleep two – for the trip to the Felucian surface. The ship had a class 1.5 hyperdrive and serviceable laser cannon if needed, along with shields and a cloaking capability. Ana had asked for those features, "just to be on the safe side" and Ry was pleased with her friend's normally cautious approach to life in general. The Capra family had a longtime reputation of being conservative when it came to political matters and when Ana became Duchess some 25 years earlier (at a relatively young age, due to the unfortunate passing of her father) she managed things in a deliberate manner, which gave reassurance to all involved that she wanted to build a reputation for prudence and reliability.

"I'm curious to see how a ship like this performs," Ry remarked.

"I think you'll find it most adequate," Ana smiled, with a wink.

As the craft pulled away from the yacht, Ana, who had taken the left seat, threw the throttle forward and the shuttle rocketed away from Concordia, which soon disappeared from the aft viewport. A few minutes later and the image of something that appeared to be a small nebula had appeared.

"What the …" Ry muttered, as she saw it.

"That's our target," Ana nodded. "Valles mentioned that it would appear that way. Shaak has created a rather inventive system for disguising her home world. The Imperials apparently are not suspicious, though, to be honest, I'm not sure why."

"Must have something to do with the Force," Ry noted, softly. "Did you catch how strong she is? It's unmistakable."

Ana nodded in return, "yes, quite the opposite with Valles. Apparently, Shaak doesn't much care at this point who detects her."

The cloud grew larger in size and then the shuttle passed through it, with their vision fully obscured. Ana opened a com channel and punched in the code sequence that Shaak had provided them earlier. A voice came over the speaker.

"Welcome to Felucia, Duchess Capra. Please proceed along the heading coordinates we are beaming up to you now."

"Roger, and thank you for the welcome," Ana replied cheerfully.

Soon they were down, and Ana had landed the ship in an area designated for visiting craft. They were near Han Solo's ship Millennium Falcon, which was doing various jobs for Shaak's organization at this time. As Ry and Ana opened the shuttle hatch, then dropped the gangplank, traded kisses, and debarked, a speeder was approaching and soon arrived. At the controls was a light-skinned individual in dress uniform. The vehicle stopped in front of them, and the occupant got out, walked over to the two of them, then bowed.

"Good morning, ladies, I am Knight Xendar. Grand Master Shaak is awaiting you in her office."

Ana lowered her head slightly and smiled.

"Please to meet you, Sir Xendar. I am Duchess Ana, and this is Countess Ry."

They got into the speeder and Knight of the Order Xendar Silkaw brought them to the Assembly Hall, some 3km away from the shuttle and the small ship landing area. As they relaxed in the comfortable velvet-covered seats of the speeder, Ry and Ana both took in the view as they sped through various patches of jungle and open areas. There were projects under way in various spots, in different stages of construction. Ry leaned over to Ana, and whispered in her ear.

"Everything looks rather new … how long do you suppose she's been on this planet?"

Ana smirked, then shrugged her shoulders. Then the form of a dark, wooden building came into view. It was large in scale but all contained on one above-ground level. Silkaw set the speeder down, hopped out and helped both of the Liannese nobles out of the vehicle.

"This way, ladies, if you please."

He gestured toward an entrance and they followed him inside, then as he led them around corridors and came to a door of solid Wroshyr wood. They then heard a soft voice coming from inside, and the door slid open. Ana and Ry entered and stood before a desk of the same material, and Shaak, dressed in her customary black velvet, was seated behind it.

"Thank you, Xendar." He bowed quickly, then turned and left. Shaak rose, and came around the desk to greet the two of them.

"Welcome to the headquarters of The Order. We are pleased you are here, Duchess Ana and Countess Ry. I'm glad we had the chance to meet a while back, and I've been considering your ideas about altering this planet's climate. I would like to only do that gradually and not unduly disturb the habitat of many of its existing plant and animal species."

Ry glanced at Ana for a second, who nodded back to her.

"Shaak," the Countess started, "I've thought about your plans, and I think I've got the right solution. I've dug up some old textbooks about Felucia, and it seems the planet has been through various phases."

Shaak paused for a second, then asked, "tell me more about them."

"Sure, the geology of this place is rather unique. The tectonics phase ended a few million years in the past, and since then, Felucia has been rather stable. I thought this seemed a bit odd, and as near as I have been able to make out, the layer underneath the planet's crust has gone through phases as well …"

"Really?" Shaak seemed somewhat shocked, then followed up. "Ry, I know for a fact that there are many strata and faults just beneath the surface, and I've been able to make use of them, for, various purposes."

Ry sat, waiting for the Master to finish, as she seemed to be trying to come to some level of understanding. Shaak then added, "I can find few other explanations. This is the work of the Force."

She sat back, and then her eyes met Ana's.

"Duchess, you've been quiet. I'm sure you have some insights here …"

Ana chuckled, while returning Shaak's gaze.

"Master Ti, interesting that you should bring up the Force …"

Shaak stared at her for a second. "Why is that?"

Ana stood, then came over to the edge of the desk.

"Shaak … did you know this planet was once home to a half billion sentients? Ah, yes … it's true, and do you know what happened to them?"

Shaak looked, a little deeper this time, into Ana's eyes. "Yes, Duchess. I do."

Ana extended both her arms across the desk and Shaak grasped her hands. An energy exchange took place. When it was over, Ana smiled, then returned to her chair. She gazed back at Shaak, her raven hair picking up some of the light in the room.

"Shall I tell her?" Ana asked, still staring at Shaak.

"I will," the Togruta answered.

Ry was wondering what exactly they were referring to, and figured Ana would tell her later, but Shaak saved her the trouble.

"Countess Kyver. I think we can all be frank, here, can we not?"

Ry nodded, waiting.

"Yes, as her Ladyship pointed out, a horrendous genocide was perpetrated here. Almost every sentient perished. Cities were wiped from the surface as if they never even existed. Terrible weaponry was unleashed the day the War ended. It played out differently around the Galaxy. And you on Lianna were more fortunate than most … perhaps you can take it from here, Lady Ana."

Ana smiled, just a bit, then answered. "Yes, Shaak, it was awful, and what was left of this place? I'll tell you what. The Dark Side of the Force is what remained, though now it's more of a distinct gray, but here you are, over 20 years hence. And Felucia no more reflects the evil of the millennia that came before – you have done a remarkable job."

"I appreciate that, Duchess. Seeing as how Lianna is an exemplar of how to properly manage a planetary environment that can support a population of over 5 billion."

"We do our best and we are rightly proud of it. Shaak – and Ry – there are other examples of the kind of waste the Empire has laid on entire planets and another one of those was Kamino. The population there was driven off-world once the decision was made to level the cloning facilities, and little distinction was made as to what was needed and what was not. And, of course, there was hardly enough time nor the means to get everyone off in time."

Ry gasped inwardly upon learning of these revelations. She thought back to her role in things in the early years of the Empire and felt ashamed, while hoping that Shaak and Ana would not learn of it. Yet, Valles likely knew, as the Queen could quickly learn all she wanted when she spent time with an individual – that person's thoughts would be detectable to a master force user – and she'd spent much time with Ry. But if it ever bothered her, Valles never gave any indication.

"Palpatine has much to answer for, that is plain …" Shaak muttered in a low tone. "But answer he will, the Force tells me that."

Ry glanced at Shaak, and for a split-second, caught a glimpse of something in her normally dark opaque eyes, a flicker of something that gave her a chill. Shaak's expression quickly returned to her usual placid demeanor. The lady was very much in charge of her world and that was also plain to see.

"So, Countess, I imagine you have a presentation for me."

"Yes, Master Ti."

Ry pulled out her com device and laid it on Shaak's desk, then activated it and caused it to show a series of holo-slides, that dealt with planetary engineering principles and what the Liannese considered "best practices" in the discipline.

Shaak paid careful attention, as she was getting an idea of how the Liannese saw things and knew that they were implementing these principles on various satellite worlds they controlled – and, thanks to Valles, this list was steadily growing. After the presentation ended, she turned to Ry.

"Countess, we had discussed this a while back, and you had recommended that I approach it from an atmospheric perspective. From your excellent demo here, I see ways we can fine-tune things while we work out what will be the best setup for Felucia. My people are going to review this and we may get back to you. Thank you very much."

Ry glanced at Ana, who nodded in return, indicating she continue.

"Master Ti, there is another area that we wanted to go over with you. You may want to keep these ideas more confidential, but there is a planet near to here called Malachor and we are considering a make-over – so to speak – of that planet, for a purpose the Queen has asked us to look into. She happened to mention to us recently that it might be something you would be interested in as well."

Shaak chuckled at this, and smiled back. "Has Her Majesty decided on a timeline for this project?"

"Nothing definite," Ana spoke up. "But she had indicated that the two of you had perhaps discussed this."

"Not in much detail …" Shaak said softly. "But I am interested. Please convey that to her."

"We will."

Shaak then rose, indicating their meeting had ended, but then spoke some more.

"Ladies, Valles had also indicated that she wanted to be kept abreast of all doings and developments here on Felucia, particularly regarding the ships we are purchasing from her and other infrastructure in place here – or soon to be. We would like to give you a short tour around our facilities so that you may report back to her."

Ana nodded. "Yes, we would like to take that tour now, and we're going to take notes and some pictures as well."

"Very good," Shaak chuckled. "Knight Silkaw will escort you around the facilities and then back to your shuttle craft. Good day to you both."

Ana and Ry both curtsied as they departed from Shaak's office. Waiting outside was Frehya Lumoxa, who then went in to talk to Shaak.

"Are they staying, Master Shaak?"

"Only for a tour. Freh, I've decided to open things up a bit for Valles and her immediate subordinates. I want you to receive both Duchess Ana and Duchess Berit as extensions of Queen Valles and show them every courtesy. Our relationship with Lianna is key to our plans going forward."

"It will be done, Master."

Malachor, 0 ABY 5 months, 5 days

A few days later, Shaak decided to follow up on her thoughts regarding Malachor. She reviewed everything in her mind from the last time she visited the planet – some six years earlier. She knew that Valles had plans for the place and wanted to get a last visit in before those plans went into effect, but then hit upon an idea: have Ahsoka and Maris take part in the renovation, at least partially.

The Intrepid V made the two-hour run from Felucia, and Shaak searched for the site of the old Sith temple, wanting to get one last look at it and perhaps see what remained. She'd reviewed all that Ahsoka had told her about the night of the duel with Vader and the mishaps of would-be Jedi Kanan and Ezra with the dangerous Sith holocron. She also did not expect to find that holocron on this visit, but decided to put Intrepid down on the surface as she felt she was in the general vicinity of where the temple had been. As she debarked from her ship, Shaak took out a speeder bike and started it up, then began a search for the Temple remains.

After about ten minutes, Shaak's Force sense started flickering and she slowed the bike, finally stopping it and looking around. And then it hit her. She was in a pile of rubble but not every trace of the old temple was gone. Using the Force, Shaak lifted several boulders and large stones up and pushed them aside, and there it was, an inverted V-shaped entrance beckoning her to approach, and as she did, that familiar voice was in her ears – or was it really just in her mind?

"Darth Traya. Have you invited me back?"

And this time, there was a response, as a strange image of the ancient Force spirit appeared in front of Shaak, who was unafraid.

You have the knowledge now, Dark Empress, and the imposter will be destroyed. Seek the power you have earned and you shall reign for a thousand years.

"I seek the remaining holocron. Is it still here?"

You do not need it; it has been destroyed – by the one you know as Bendu. I planted it here long ago to draw in those who were unworthy. Your power is supreme, Dark Empress, and no one stands in your way.

Shaak smiled. "I know that now. But I won't rule in Darkness. I am the bringer of Light. It is my destiny. They call me the Exalted One on my home world. This is the meaning of my name."

Yes. Shaak Ti. Long have I watched you. Exalted Empress. Extend your dominance over the Force itself. I have a gift for you – it is waiting for you on a moon near to this planet. When you become the Empress and have defeated the usurper it will come to you. The Amulet of Kalara. With it, nothing can stop you.

"Why exactly did you choose me?"

I did not. The Force itself has chosen. It has chosen Shaak Ti, the Exalted One.

Shaak nodded, then smiled.

"Then it has chosen well. Many are called, few are chosen, and only one is Exalted … I understand, and I know what I must do."

All power to thee, Exalted One.

Shaak turned around and exited the remains of the Temple. I must destroy this place and remake this planet, as Valles has suggested. It will be my Sha'an Gu'ri La'a, the ancient Togruta myth of paradise, where I can rest and relax and consider what I will do to make the Galaxy what it should always have been. I will send Maris and Ahsoka to assist in this task.

As she returned to the Intrepid, Shaak then contacted Valles on Lianna and left this message:

"Good day, your Majesty. I've done my recon on Malachor. I will be sending my apprentices – Maris and Ahsoka – to do the first round of clean-up in a few weeks from now. Then we may proceed with your idea. The theme for the new remade planet shall be pink and green."

Valles saw the text message. It was the early morning where she was, and she responded quickly.

"Very good, Master. We will coordinate around your timetable. Thank you for informing me."

Somewhere in Galactic Group 25, 0 ABY 5 months, 15 days

Many days away from the Galaxy by even the fastest ships, Su had just come from a meeting with members of the Council of the Guides, and Lizza and Magnifica were awaiting her return. They were on a totally artificial world that was similar to the Dark and Light ships that Su operated in her purview of the universe, but these were far larger and yet could be moved from galaxy to galaxy as deemed necessary or desirable.

Su's apprentices were new to the concept of the Guides and they had plenty of questions, and for most of these she was not ready to provide answers. Lizza found that Su would only explain things when she felt it was necessary, and Magnifica was not in the habit of questioning her at all. "Mama Su knows best" was her response to anything Lizza might want to talk about, but she was interested in knowing more about the Guides.

While they were waiting, Lizza brought up the subject and Magnifica first asked:

"Who are the Guides?"

"Well, from what I've been able to learn … they are a series of presences that inhabit the universe where they desire at any given time. Mama Su is actually one of them and her responsibility is for about 20 groups of galaxies that are east of Group 25."

Magnifica smiled. "So she rules 20 groups?"

Lizza laughed softly. "Yes, but she doesn't like the term 'rules.' She has told me she sees her role as a facilitator."

"So, she makes things easier?"

"I guess you could say that, but she doesn't choose to interact with the people in the galaxies in a general way. She mostly chooses certain individuals – like myself."

"But she created me … right?"

"She says that she did and you have a special place with her."

Magnifica had to think about that. She recalled the long periods of time when she was left to take care of herself, with no one else around, only messages from Su. Of course, she had no way of knowing that this was not the typical view of motherhood – at least for most sentient species. The elegant and powerful young woman – if she was truly human, which at times she seemed not to be – spent much time thinking, as it was what Su expected of her. And her mind always seemed to take her to the same place. I'm powerful because she wants me to be. She has shown me the Force is mine to control and no one in the 17th Group understands that – except maybe the one called Palpatine.

Just then, Su reappeared before her two cherished acolytes. They smiled in response, tempering their enthusiasm as they believed she would want them to do, and waited for her to speak first. She spread her arms wide and they both came to her and felt her warmth as she embraced them. Her white hair then unfurled and flowed behind her as her white gown started to radiate along various wavelengths, making it change colors.

"Talk to me, my children. I'm sure you have questions … at this time, be open to answers."

Lizza went first. "Where did you go, dearest mother?"

Magnifica was right behind her. "I know about Group 25 from what you've told us before. Did they give you a Directive?"

Su smiled. "Let's sit for a while." She gave a short wave of her right hand and a luxurious long seating area appeared and they soon were on it, both of them cuddled next to her. She could feel them both relax, then she began.

"Group 25 is not the center of the Universe but it is the center of our portion of it. There over 1000 groups that make up the area in which we are the Guides. I met this time with my fellow guides that serve the areas adjacent to mine and we compared ideas for how we see their progress or lack of it. Of course, we might have different appraisals of this progress and thus we meet and gain insight from each other."

Much of this was a mystery to Magnifica and Lizza was not far behind, and Su readily detected their thoughts. She carefully caressed their hair – Lizza's black and Magnifica's golden blonde – and felt their energy bind with hers, then continued.

"But we talked about my Group 17 and its primary galaxy, and how it's the only one in the group that has a leader or self-styled ruler. And we all agreed that person is about to be replaced."

Magnifica had little idea whom Su was referring to, but Lizza was quite aware. She felt she could ask about this.

"Mama Su, is this Palpatine – he is going to be replaced?"

"Do you both recall, a while back, that we had visited Group 17 together and I paid him a visit?"

Lizza did recall, but remained silent as Su continued. Magnifica had forgotten all about that time, as it was over two standard years (by Group 17 reckoning) before and she had little conception of that measure of time. Su had told them of "things to discuss" but then, when she returned, those things had nothing to do with the visit she paid to Palpatine.

Magnifica remembered the name Palpatine, and stayed quiet, waiting for her Queen to tell them.

"And so it is …" Su said softly, smiling. "He is to be replaced, and his replacement is someone we are going to watch closely. This person is from a species of hunter-gatherers, from a quiet planet not far from the Core area of the Primary Galaxy."

Lizza started wondering. Whoever might it be? She then asked, "which planet is this person from?"

Su chuckled. "It is immaterial. But she has acquired great power over the years I have observed her, and now it is her time. She has still more lessons to learn, however, these shall play out after she gains the seat of power. And you …" Su then turned to face both of her apprentices, "shall be part of her education."

"What will happen to Palpatine?" Magnifica asked, quietly.

"He will be in retirement. The new leader will look after him."

"Ah," Lizza nodded. "Will he be destroyed by the new leader?"

"He will not. The new leader … she is aware of the consequences of such an action."

Lizza laughed softly to herself. Ah, old man, about time you retired, but I'm quite interested in your replacement. She couldn't help but ask this: "Mama Su, I had no idea there was someone else who was more powerful than him … at least, until I met you."

"All in good time, my child. You shall learn the name of the new sovereign ruler in the days to come."

Felucia, 0 ABY 6 months, 12 days, 8 hours

One day, on Felucia, Maris awoke to find Reema Andujah, the young acolyte in the Order, whom Shaak had asked her to train, waiting outside the door of her house. Reema was someone that had been an orphan on Coruscant that somehow managed to raise herself after being abandoned by her parents at the age of 6. It turned out she was Force-sensitive and this helped her to survive in various situations in the Coruscanti Underground. Jin-Lo Rayce, a Padawan with Master Jocasta Nu, had originally discovered young Reema once she was about 12 years old. He eventually brought her to Chandrila once he had gained her trust. There, she became a member of Jocasta's group of Force adepts that she had dubbed the "Agents of Ossus." More recently, Rayce had paid Shaak a visit on Felucia, offering to take her to Chandrila so she could meet these "agents." Reema Andujah turned out to be the one with the most promise, and Shaak had given her to Maris, who, at the time, was feeling somewhat excluded from Order activities in favor of Ahsoka. Shaak was aware of this and wanted very much to help her longtime friend and apprentice find something rewarding to do. Reema was more than a little rough around the edges, but Shaak saw the promise in her and knew that Maris could help her reach her potential.

Maris detected Reema's presence and rose from her bed, pulling a dress over her head to cover her mostly naked body. She drowsily sauntered over to her front door and opened it with the Force.

"Good morning, Master," the Coruscanti chirped. "I've been thinking about the things you're showing me, with how to do small Force movements as part of a dueling style, and, like you recommended, I spoke with Master Ahsoka."

"Okay …" Maris smiled at her apprentice.

Reema continued. "And I asked her how to work in the Force, and she told me about something called a Force Push."
"Ah …" Maris chuckled. "Yes. Ahsoka is one of the best at that. So perhaps you can try it out in your next duel."

"OK … I just wanted to make sure it was accepted for use. I'm not that good at it yet, but I can do little movements like you showed me."

Maris wanted to wrap up this conversation, but had already noticed that Reema was somewhat temperamental. This was something she'd wanted to address with the girl, but hadn't yet found the time.

"Reema, as I noted yesterday, I'm impressed with your enthusiasm and your ability. And, I would bet Ahsoka is too. I think you're going to be a serious player here and I have mentioned to the Grand Master that you are ready for Padawan level 1."

"I'm excited about that, Master." Reema then bowed. "I will show you that I have earned it."

"Very good," Maris chuckled, and clapped her on her left shoulder. "But I also want you to not be in too much of a hurry. You are still quite young, although some have earned high honors in the Jedi at a young age, too, including Grand Master Shaak. Show patience and keep working and you will get there."

Reema smiled, and Maris continued.

"I will see you later on, I have somewhere I need to be right now."

"Thank you, Master," Reema bowed again, then turned and left.

Maris went to her closet, and found an elegant black velvet dress that hit about the knee level, threw it on, then checked her hair – her braids neatly in place – and sighed. She pulled on her rancor-hide boots, and sighed. I do hope you're there, old friend …

With that, Maris strode out from her home and summoned her speeder with the Force. She was soon at the newly built hangar facility, where her trusty ship Forager was now kept when not in use. After saluting the attendants, Maris was aboard and soon settled into the flight deck and started running the pre-launch sequence.

About five minutes later, Forager had made the jump to hyperspace and Maris set her course for The Wheel.

The Wheel, 0 ABY 6 months, 12 days, 12 hours

Two hours later, Maris had arrived at the giant space station which was over 500 years old. It had been a couple of years since her last visit and she pulled out her com and touched a series of entries. The answer came soon enough.

"Hello, Dewdrop Inn …"

"Hey … Terdenia, right?"

"Who wants to know?"

"It's me … Maris."

There was a short silence, then a response. "Oh … yes … we missed you. My sister especially."

"Well," Maris chuckled. "Please tell her I'm here."

A few minutes later, Maris strode into the Dewdrop Inn and Terdenia was there to greet her, from behind the hostess desk. Her gold skin tone was glowing, while her lekku had been detailed with golden glitter. She had on her usual bright pink short dress. When she saw Maris, her jaw dropped for a second, then she composed herself and walked up to the Zabrak.

"Well … aren't you looking wonderful tonight, Miss Maris …"

Maris laughed, "Well, thank you for noticing."

Terdenia then came around the desk and approached Maris, subtly grasping the Zabrak's left hand with her right. Maris took in the whole woman and thought to herself … you're quite impressive, but I'm here for Verenia … then spoke.
"I like how you've decorated yourself … is your sister waiting for me?"

"Oh, that she is, honey …"

Maris simply smiled and nodded, then reached over to Terdenia and gave her a quick peck on the cheek. At that moment, Verenia, in a bright purple satin dress that contrasted with her turquoise complexion, strode onto the scene, took one look at Maris, then coolly sauntered up to her and locked up the Zabrak's right arm in her left. She ran her right hand across Maris's bosom, savoring the soft velvet.

"I was wondering when you would be back, sweety …"

The Zabrak returned the favor, taking time to feel Verenia's dress and how well it defined her contours.

"I have surely missed you … but I've been so very busy these days."

"Come, tell me all about it. I've reserved the Queen's room for us, my queen."

Maris followed her and they soon arrived at the luxurious accommodation. Wasting no time, Verenia deferred to her lover, who pulled her onto the bed next to her, and they hugged and kissed passionately.

It had been a rather long time since Maris had made love to anyone, and she went at it vigorously, taking short breaks to replenish her effort. About two hours later, her energy finally began to fade, and Verenia lovingly caressed her forehead, gently grasping one of Maris's forward horns. Seeing that Maris had tired, Verenia pulled a blanket over her, then left her to sleep for a bit. The Twi'lek walked out of the room feeling blissful. Oh my goodness, that was worth waiting for. Maris, no matter what happens, I will always, always, love you.

Another four hours later, Verenia had finished a shift on her hostess job, then went to her private quarters at the club, where she changed out of her purple dress and into something a bit less formal, a sleeveless gray number that hung loosely from her shoulders to about knee-length. Knowing her lover's tastes in alcohol, she visited a nearby bar and purchased a couple of cold Almanian ales and a couple of shots of Corp-Sec whisky, then returned to the Dewdrop Inn.

Maris had awakened, and realized she was naked and looked around for her black dress, which she found neatly hanging for her in the suite's washroom, which allowed the wrinkles she had put in it to be ironed out due to the humidity. Smiling, as she considered the thoughtfulness of her girlfriend, Maris pulled it back on over her head, then came back and sat on the edge of the bed for a while. She then noticed her com had an indicator light on and so she raised her right hand and the device flew into it via the Force. Hmm, she muttered as she checked the device and went to her messages, then saw the one that had switched the light on. Checking it, she read it with interest:

"Maris, my dear friend, I haven't seen you in such a long time. I see you're at The Wheel and I thought we might get together if you have the time … regards, Varda."

Smiling, Maris responded. "I'd love that, old friend. I'm here with Verenia. We can meet at Players Club. See you in about an hour. Signal me when you're there…"

Maris shut off the device, as Verenia returned and proceeded to take out the ales and put them on the table in the sitting area. The Zabrak stood and then walked over to her, gently feeling up one of her lekku, causing the Twi'lek to turn around and their lips to meet.

"How thoughtful you are, love," Maris said softly as she grabbed one of the bottles, then handed the other one to Verenia.

"Bottoms up!" Verenia laughed, and proceeded to guzzle about half the contents of her bottle.

Maris chuckled while watching her, taking more moderate amounts from hers. "Hey, this is the good stuff. I'm going to savor it."

"Ah, sa-weety, you haven't seen what else I brought …" The Twi'lek opened her purse and pulled out the small bottles of Corp-Sec whisky. Maris's eyes widened when she saw them.

"I haven't had any of that in a long time. How kind."

Verenia handed one to Maris, who took a sip. "I'm going to drink this slowly …" she laughed.

"Me, too … but we can get more at Players Club."

"Great … it just so happens … that an old friend is meeting me there in about an hour. Maybe you'd like to change into something … a little more festive? You are such a beauty."

"Thank you, Maris. I never really knew you felt that way."

"Oh, for a long time. Sometimes your face appears in dreams to me."

"Mmm …" Verenia started kissing her again, feeling somewhat further aroused. "I'm so lucky."

She ducked out, then returned a few minutes later in a bright yellow dress that was loose fitting and reasonably elegant. Her lekku had some detailing to match the color.

Maris smiled in approval. "That's the ticket. You are really an expert at looking amazing. But isn't that the Twi'lek stereotype?"

"I don't care, dearie, as long as I can have you."

An hour later, the two of them had made their way over to the Players Club, a well-known watering hole for those of modest means on The Wheel, but still a place that discouraged the Galactic riff-raff. A pair of Gamoreans had been hired on the door since Maris had last visited. The two of them could immediately see the Zabrak who accompanied Verenia was reasonably prosperous herself and the Twi'lek was a regular patron, so they were happily invited in.

"Good afternoon, ladies, and welcome to the Players Club."

"Thank you!" they said in unison. Soon, a hostess, a human female about forty years of age, had greeted them.

"Hello, Verenia … and who's your guest?"

"Good afternoon, Agdonia. This is Maris, she was once a regular here."

"Oh … I see. Good to have you back, Maris. It just so happens; someone is here and she had asked me to let her know once you had arrived."

"Ah … that would be Varda, yes?" Maris asked. "An older human female, about 65-70 years, perhaps?"

"That's the one."

"Great, we will sit with her."

As the hostess led them over to the booth Varda was in, Maris whispered to Verenia. "She's an old friend and we haven't seen each other for a couple of years."

When Varda saw Maris, she was on her feet immediately, and the two old friends hugged, then traded kisses on the cheeks. Finally, the Zabrak spoke.

"Varda, you remember Verenia ... she is now my girlfriend."

The Twi'lek nodded her head.

"Nice to meet you – again," Varda said in a friendly manner. "She's lovely, Maris. I seem to remember her from about …ten years ago. I'm glad you two kept up with each other."

"Thank you," The Twi'lek responded, while Maris put an arm around her as they slid into the booth across from Varda.

"It's my treat, what would you girls like?"

"Ale, for me," Maris nodded, with a chuckle.

Verenia then added, "Make it two, plus a shot of honey malt on the side."

Varda tapped in the order on the pad at the table, then spoke. "Maris, I've missed you so much, and Shaak too. How are things on Felucia?"

"They're great, but you might not recognize it now. So much has changed in just the past few months. We now have close to 80 acolytes in the Order. And there's been so much construction. Ahsoka, as you know, has come to stay with us and has her own house, plus she's got a lover now."

Varda's jaw dropped at that news. "Seriously! I'm happy for her, but a little surprised. I know how alone she's been feeling over the years. Who's the lucky person?"

"Someone from the Almanian military, although he's now retired from them and joined the rebellion. It seems she met him when she stayed on that planet after escaping from Malachor. That happened before she came to stay with us on Felucia. For a while, she split her time between Felucia and Almania."

Varda nodded, while pondering what Maris had just told her. She'd never been to Almania and wondered what it was like, but she wasn't sure whether Maris had either. She simply asked, "I heard about the destruction of something called the Death Star. Did you have anything to do with that?"

Maris looked around to see if anyone was paying attention, then answered. "Not me personally, but Ahsoka and Master Shaak sure did. The rebellion has really grown since then. That was over six months ago."

Varda whistled in a low tone. "Wow … things are changing fast. It seems different around here now. There's more buzz than normal these days, like they know something's up."

Maris nodded, then asked, "By any chance, have you seen Qi'ra? She's a dark-haired lady working for one of the syndicates. Kind of pretty. We're sort of friends."

"Ah, no, I don't think so …" Varda answered slowly. "But I'm not here that often. And I try to stay away from those kinds of people."

"Well, you wouldn't know she's one – at least not obviously. But I used her organization for purchasing coaxium in the past, when it was harder to get. Master Shaak didn't like the high prices, but we really had no choice. Anyway … enough about me, what's been going on with you?"

Varda smiled. "Well, I was able to find a place for my Siluan friends to migrate to. They had come under severe strain in the last couple of years, and Yemer wasn't safe."

"So where are they now?"

Verenia piped up when hearing the name of the planet. "Yes, I had a friend on Yemer, she was working in the hospital there. She told me she had to get away. I put her up for a couple of nights at my establishment here."

Varda nodded, "Well, you'll never believe it, but it was our pal Shelly that came up with an idea. Seems she had contacts on Dinzo, and well, the planet turned out to be just the right place for them to migrate to … from Yemer. The Imperials don't seem to pay much attention to it, as it's mostly uninhabited and there doesn't seem to be any raw materials they need for shipbuilding."

Maris sat still for a second, thinking this over. She then asked, "was that tall guy I met one of the ones you evac'ed?"

"You are referring to Ava Gerges, correct?"

"Ah … yes. I couldn't remember the name."

"Yes, he did come with us. He was a bit skeptical at first, but then reconciled with it on Dinzo."

"Well … if our plans come together, things are going to be safe for their return to Yemer in the months to come."

Varda raised her head slightly. "Oh, really? I hope that's true. Ava Gerges will be most pleased and he wishes Master Shaak well."

"Anyway," Maris continued, "I'm wondering if you might feel like returning to Felucia yourself. Shaak would love to see you again, and I would bet Ahsoka would as well."

"Hmm," Varda said softly, then smiled. "Some of my best memories are of my time on Felucia with both of you, and I'd love to see Ahsoka again. I have a little more to do, however, but I could probably come to visit in the next two months or so."

"We'll be looking forward to it. I will inform both of them. There are many others now with us that you will have a chance to meet. I've even got a young apprentice myself, and she's quite interesting."

"I can't wait to meet her," Varda smiled.

The three of them stood up, as Varda settled the bill. As they headed out, Maris and Verenia returned to the Dewdrop Inn for a bit, then the Zabrak told her she had to leave soon. They went to a private room and cuddled for a while.

"Maris, I'm going to miss you so much, but I'm so happy you came. We had a great time."

"Oh …" Maris sighed. "I do enjoy being with you, very much. We'll do it again, I'm quite certain."

A little later, Maris said farewell to Verenia, then returned to the Forager for the trip back to Felucia. I wish I could bring her with me, but Shaak's not going to like it …

Lianna, The City, Urban Palace, 0 ABY 7 months, 25 days

Valles Santhé, Queen of Lianna and its "greater orbit" worlds, was returning to the palace for some rest after having visited Felucia and staying for a few days with Shaak and her Order at the hotel which had been constructed a few months earlier. It was clear in her mind that Shaak had put together a strong organization, one that featured many capabilities. These now included construction, droid manufacture, and the beginnings of a sophisticated planetary defense. For the plan to work as designed, she decided that more Liannese resources would be devoted to Felucia, and that the beginnings of a new, more urbanized, area would be built and could go up quickly.

Once in her lavish suite, Valles decided to soak in a hot tub for awhile and partake a little bit of Spice from a spring-water bowl, which gave it a cool and smooth taste that went easy on the lungs. As she exhaled, she started running it down in her mind.

So Shaak and I are now on the same page. I am to be her chief of staff, Grand Vizier, if you will, and can now set about a plan for organization of the Galactic administration once she becomes Empress. The timetable on that appears to be over the next four months. I will need to find the best quality people – some of whom might come from the rebellion – to head up key agencies. She and I already see the need for a sound organization, and the more time I spend with her, the more impressed I am. This lady will be no pushover, and, for the time being, I want her to have a prosperous and successful reign as Empress. We are going to consult heavily with each other over the weeks to come, and I want her to feel completely at home on Lianna and have the run of all of my residences. She's a mostly polite sort, and doesn't wish to impose, which I rather admire. Berit will, of course, be invaluable as Shaak's hostess on Lianna and be ready to provide whatever Her Imperial Majesty needs. The two get on well together.

Ana, of course, will continue to pursue other projects for me, along with Ry as her right-hand. I can see how well they get on and I am happy for both of them … Another one I am impressed with is Ahsoka. She has little experience in political matters, but I have no doubt she can learn anything she needs to. Shaak will lean on her, I am certain, so I want to have a good relationship with her as well. She and her husband-to-be seemed to greatly enjoy staying at Santhia, and it might not be the worst idea to present that place to her – as my gift – once she is ensconced as Imperial Crown Princess.

But there is also the makeover and redesign of Malachor into Avalonia to consider, and Shaak and Ahsoka will have a very grand palace there, with all of the supporting infrastructure they will need to conduct Imperial affairs away from Coruscant. I rather expect Shaak to want a quiet place to repair to, so that she might consider her alternative policy choices – which I shall frame for her. Most important, however, is the need for Shaak to believe she has made conscious decisions and that I am only presenting choices for her. And what of Ahsoka? She is pleasantly disposed toward me, and there is little reason for that to change, as my strong support of Shaak will demonstrate.

And you, my dear Vaston … are you merely content to follow in your formidable mother's footsteps and thus become more than my lover … or are you simply a manifestation, like my father – given power by right of birth, but ill-disposed to make good use of it? No matter, you serve a valuable role for me in that you satisfy the part of me that needs satisfaction from time to time.

As if on cue, Valles raised her hand and her com device flew into it. Soon the correct set of taps were made via the Force and she then spoke:

"Hello my love … how fortunate I am that you were able to answer. I am looking forward to seeing you again …"

He laughed on the other end. "Oh, Valles … I was dreaming about you again, Your Most Gracious Majesty. Are you feeling a bit aroused?"

"I am … but something more ..."

"You have but to request it."

She chuckled. "Well, then. I should like to pay you a visit. Perhaps to that lovely world of Baldavia we visited some years ago?"

"I will make it wonderful for you, my Queen …"

"Thank you, Vas … now, I would most appreciate it if my visit is somewhat low-key … I don't want a lot of fuss and bother – even though I am the Queen …"

"I understand, darling. How long can you stay with me?"

"I should think … about three days or so. I imagine your mother will want to have some time with me, too."

"Of course, you know she adores you – as do I."

"Very well, I will be on my way over there tomorrow."

Hapes Sector, 0 ABY 7 months, 27 days

Early the next day, Valles quietly slipped away from the City, piloting her unmarked shuttle, and heading up to dock with the Belladonna, where she slid smoothly into the hangar bay aboard the huge yacht. Even though she was wearing a plain white sleeveless dress, the crew on duty in the bay immediately recognized the Queen and bowed low to her as a group.

"Your Majesty."

"As you were," she chirped, with a broad smile.

She then proceeded directly to her private suite – an expanse of about 20 rooms, of varying purposes – where she went to lie down for about a half hour, telling herself she needed to calm her nerves. I've been getting too excited these days – so much ahead of me right now – I just want to take some time to basically drop out. Three days should be enough, and I will expect his undivided attention.

The trip to the Hapes sector would take about four hours, and Belladonna would go into orbit around the central system's planet of Hapes Prime. Once there, she contacted Vaston and invited him to her ship. He arrived about 15 minutes later, having been awaiting her at his mother's huge urban palace. Valles had changed into a black velvet full-length dress with angled short sleeves that showed off her slim yet toned arms, and which had a plunging neckline that revealed just a hint of the Queen's bosom, and, as she often did when she wanted to relax, she wore no bra. Her glorious mane descended down her back and had been carefully woven into a long braid that almost reached her knees. Topping off the look, she chose a light golden tiara that featured several reddish gemstones, which played with her lip color and eye shadow. Though dressed somewhat informally, Valles radiated her royal presence with every detail.

Vaston's official shuttle arrived, carrying the insignia of his mother – Vestalia the Ta'a Chumé – or Queen Mother Supreme, with additional insignia for him as the Shah-zadda or Crown Prince. As he debarked, the Liannese that greeted him bowed low and helped him into a repulsor chair. Vaston was also in black, an elegant velvet one piece garment that resembled a jumpsuit. He was soon directed toward a large ballroom that Valles used to greet honored guests aboard the Belladonna, and she stood patiently, awaiting his entrance. Once he arrived, Vaston deftly leapt from the chair and landed on his feet in front of her, where he gave her an exaggerated bow, causing her to smile broadly and chuckle.

"My love …" she said gently. "You are looking well. How goes all things Hapian?"

Vaston took her offered hand, kissed it, then gently caressed it, as they smiled as each other, clearly anticipating the moment when they would be alone together.

"Very well, your Majesty. But even better with you gracing our humble world and sector."

Valles had to laugh. If there was one thing the Hapians were known for, it was surely not humility. They embraced each other lightly, then traded soft kisses on each other's cheeks. She raised her right arm and gave a gesture with her hand, causing a larger repulsor bench to appear and float in front of them.

"After you, my dear prince."

Vaston hopped on, then extended his hand to help her sit next to him, then the chair carried them away, disappearing from the ballroom and passing through a pair of portals and entering a lift, which soon took them up to Valles's private suite on the yacht. Once inside her ante-room, they dismounted from the bench and walked together, passing through another portal and entering her large main bedroom. Now completely alone, they embraced again, this time with passion, and shared long, sweet kisses that included some tongue maneuvers. Releasing each other, they gazed lovingly as their eyes met. They then sat next to each other on a comfortable two-seat couch that was sumptuous and elegant, upholstered in bright red velvet.

"So, Vas, tell me about this new title you have …"

"My love, I am the King of Kings."

"Oh, my," she laughed softly. "How does that work, exactly?"

"Oh, it's not all that much, but as you may know, each of our 120 worlds has a local monarch or Patsa – some are male, some female. And they all come under my purview and authority. So my mother decided to dub me her Patsa-lar-deen-Patasi."

"My goodness." Valles laughed again, a little louder. "We can't have you getting a swelled head. I might get bored with you."

"That would be a shame, my Queen. But you know Mother dotes on you."

"Oh yes, and I plan to look my part when I see her later on tonight at her colossal palace."

The two of them again embraced, more feverishly, and soon had landed on her large bed and eventually made love for about an hour, then rolled over, somewhat exhausted, but thoroughly relaxed, having released all tension. They then arose and Valles pulled on a black satin robe and presented him with one as well.

"Come, dear Vas," she beckoned and they walked into a small chamber off the main bedroom, and took seats across from each other on either side of a small table that contained a holo projector. Valles grabbed a prepared water pipe, preloaded with high-end Spice and lit the bowl via a small burst of current from her fingertip. She took a deep draw, then handed him a hookah so that he might partake.

"Ah," Vaston leaned back as he exhaled. "That's-a-nice …" He then sat forward. "So tell me what you came to tell me."

Valles then sat back and smiled, clearly enjoying the moment. "I've been offered the position of Grand Vizier to the Empress."

"The Empress …" he said the words slowly and deliberately.

"Yes. You might as well know. It will be our friend Shaak Ti."

Vaston's face froze for a second, then he took a deep breath. "How, exactly?"

"I don't fully know, as of yet. But she is quite serious, and when she gets that way, it's best to believe her."

"So, what you are telling me, is that this Togruta former Jedi has the power to topple Palpatine?"

"In so many words, yes."

Vaston whistled low. He then noted, "this likely means she is more powerful than you and I … and my mother as well. Can I mention that to her?"

"Yes, but no one else on Hapes or in the sector."

"Of course. So, you are going to be Grand Vizier … and still hold the throne of Lianna? Quite a lot on your plate, my darling."

Valles threw her head back and laughed loud. "Ha-ha-ha… Indeed. But I can manage. Berit and Ana will see to most affairs on Lianna while I am on Coruscant, plus we are going to construct a new palace for Shaak on Avalonia."

"Where?"

"Oh, that's the name we are giving to Malachor. The planet is being remade in our private design … for Empress Shaak and I."

"So when does she become Empress?"

"About three or four months from now, she's indicated to me. So there's much to do."

"I can see that. Are you excited?"

"Quite!" Valles blurted out, but then continued a bit more moderately. "Yes, but I will take it in stride. I'm pleased to have the time to plan and prepare. My formal coronation on Lianna will take place after she has hers on Coruscant. That will be a grand celebration for the Galaxy at large."

Vaston chuckled at the seeming idealism of his longtime flame. "Valles, love, it's been a long time since I've seen you like this. I get the feeling …"

She interrupted, gently, "what?"

"That you've got another plan already in the works."

"We'll just have to see about that, won't we?"

With that, she stood up and stretched her arms over her head, then sighed contentedly.

"So, my love, shall we proceed to meet with your mother?"

"Sure, but chances are she'll want to meet with you privately, and feed you more ambrosia."

"Ha-ha! Yes, but that stuff is rather intoxicating in its own way. Probably why she's so …"

"Large?" He laughed. "Go ahead, you can say it. She certainly won't mind."

"Well," Valles chuckled, then continued in a gossipy tone. "I wonder about her health. She must weigh, perhaps, 350 kilos?"

"At least," Vaston replied. "But she's been like that since I can remember, even when I was a boy. She used to bounce me on her knee when I was ten years old, and she's rather strong."

"Oh yes. She picked me up with one hand and put me in a more comfortable position. Your mom likes to have me in her lap."

"Well, she is quite fond of you, something she doesn't mind reminding me of."

Valles picked up her com and spoke into it. "Yes, have my formal shuttle ready. We're going down to visit the Queen Mother Ta'a Chumé."

Hapes Prime, Hapes Sector, 0 ABY 7 months, 28 days

About one hour later, Vaston and Valles descended to the primary world of the sector, known as Hapes Prime (to Galactic travelers), and simply Hapes to residents and denizens of the sector. The planet had a long and colorful history, having been settled by humans some 20,000 years prior. Due to some unfortunate periods in its history, the women of Hapes had decided that the planet would be ruled by a woman in perpetuity and the society had evolved in this way ever since. Thus the Queen of Hapes and its home sector had to be a well-qualified individual, one worthy of the immense set of responsibilities that went with the position.

Vaston's mother – Vestalia – had held the throne for over 200 years by this time, but the lady seemed ageless and timeless. She was quite jovial and truly loved the people of the 120 livable worlds contained in the sector, a reasonably compact area of the Galaxy that spanned about 300 parsecs. Vestalia was the most powerful of a long line of Force-sensitive monarchs that ruled the sector, but she kept most talk about the Force strictly private and forbid the teaching of the phenomenon in the various educational institutions in the sector.

However, there were private groups on some of the planets – Baldavia and Tinta foremost among them – that studied the Force and its implications. They knew, of course, that such discussions must be kept private and the suspicion was that Vestalia had some sort of arrangement with the Emperor, as she appeared to enforce his restrictions on the Force. These of course did not extend to her own family, in particular, her son Vaston, whom she doted on and gave free rein to live life as he pleased. The extent of Vestalia's fortune was unknown, but as she held title to everything in the sector (in theory), it had to be as vast as anything in the Galaxy. She also forbade outside investment in Hapes from other parts of the Galaxy, and had quietly built a very effective "self-defense" force that could do her bidding as she saw fit.

The Liannese royal shuttle descended to the surface in Vestalia's capital city – named for her, of course – an elegant and most modern metropolis that was planned, it seemed, down to the last centimetre. Over 100 million Hapians hailed from Vestaliana City and it was truly a magnificent place to call home. The street plan was intricately designed in a hexagonal grid, with many open parks, canals, and ponds all around. It seemed that one could not go even one kilometre in any direction and not encounter some body of water. In the center, of course, was the Queen Mother's splendid palace, a huge expanse that consisted of several hexagonal wings with connecting passageways from the main building that had sixteen levels and plenty of private space for Her Majesty. On the palace grounds – which covered some 15 square km – were various laboratories and institutes, some of which were devoted to refining the Queen's ambrosia and nectar, which was believed by many to be the source of her long life, one that showed no signs of coming to an end.

Valles looked down on the palace grounds as they came in to land at its designated spaceport, one that could handle as many as fifty smaller vessels.

"I haven't been here since I was a child, Vas. I don't remember it from that time … has your mother expanded things?"

"Yes, but over a ten-year period. One thing she loves to do, is continually upgrade and remodel things – on all of the worlds. She sees them as her property to do with as she pleases, but no one seems to mind."

"I must say, she has an excellent eye for fine design and elegance. As you approach this city from the air, it just looks so perfect in every detail. How long has it been this way?"

"Certainly my whole life, but there was a time when far fewer people lived on the planet. I'm told that some three thousand years ago, there were not even ten million of us here, and none of the other 120 worlds had much more than one million, but now we have over 100 billion in the sector."

"That's rather impressive growth … how much of it took place under her reign?"

"I don't know exactly, Val, but I would guess at least half of it. There was a time when she wanted us to have plenty of children, and to marry young. I think she was interested in creating a well-trained military for defending our sector. We have great mineral wealth on some of the worlds, and we are most careful in how we develop them … but, for some reason, it seems the Empire doesn't come here looking for materials to be used in ship construction – not even the Death Star."

Valles pondered that as the shuttle touched down. Something to cover with your mom, my love, once we are alone together.

About a half hour later, Valles had been shown to a lavish guest suite suitable for visiting royalty and leadership. She would only be in it for one night, as Vaston had planned another romantic getaway on the special planet of Baldavia for her. Once settled in, Valles found a short dress in bright turquoise, with matching sandals that she could just kick off, remembering how much Vestalia had loved seeing her in that shade on a prior occasion, and got herself ready to meet with her hostess. Soon enough, Valles got the call and was ready for it. Preferring to do away with pageantry and fanfare, she asked to be taken to the Queen Mother Ta'a Chumé by herself. Valles jumped on the chair when it came and relaxed as it whisked her down the corridors and onto a special lift that went straight to Vestalia's ante-room. Once there, she hopped off and took a seat on a soft couch.

Vestalia didn't keep her waiting long, and soon arrived on a repulsor throne, thoroughly decked out in a pink gown that had many folds and sections so as to cover her ample girth, and a lavish purple robe over her shoulders, which looked so sumptuous, that Valles couldn't wait to sit in her lap and feel all of these fabrics personally.

"Welcome to Hapes, your Majesty," Vestalia's voice boomed, as she was truly happy to see Valles again. "I am so proud of what you have already accomplished. Hop up here and tell me all about it!"

Valles grinned, then did an exaggerated curtsy, pulling up the corners of her skirt, which made Vestalia chuckle. She then levitated herself via the Force and smoothly landed in the Queen Mother's lap, whereupon Vestalia lovingly stroked the Liannese monarch's dark hair, which had been washed and styled to near perfection. Valles stretched both arms upward and sighed contentedly.

"So nice," was all she said, while feeling Vestalia's luxurious garments with her hands. "So … your Majesty, exalted Ta'a Chumé … we've set the stage now. Perhaps you recall the Togruta lady on Felucia I mentioned a while back?"

Vestalia smiled. "Yes .. a certain Shaak Ti, wasn't it?"

"That's the one. Well, your Majesty, she is very powerful and has a plan to become Galactic Empress, and I am backing her. I'm to be her Grand Vizier."

Vestalia seemed not the least surprised by any of these revelations, and asked, "When will this happen, Queen Valles?"

"I don't have her exact timetable, but it should be in a few months. She's setting the stage now, as she purchased several ships from us, and I would imagine they are to be used as some form of decoy."

"And then what?"

"They have a way of destroying Imperial ships – I've learned of it about two years ago. It seems they use a Force power to penetrate the defenses and cause leaks in the reactors onboard those ships. The crew has little idea how it happens, and doesn't realize it until it's too late. Everything is contaminated and the ship has to be abandoned. Then they are able to finish the job by blowing up the hyperdrive."

Vestalia contemplated this for a few seconds, then spoke. "This is a major development. So you believe this Shaak can overcome the Emperor when the time comes? That's the purpose of the decoy, to draw him out?"

"So it would seem, your Majesty. But I've yet to learn the method she will use when the time comes. Shaak is rather mysterious, but I have little doubt she can deliver."

"Well," the Queen Mother sighed, and let an ample breath leave her lungs, one that caused Valles's hair to flutter somewhat in the breeze. "I've been most curious about this Shaak Ti before, though I knew little about her … other than she was in the Jedi and was a Master. It appears she's far more than that. If she truly has this level of power, she didn't get it while she was in the Jedi Order. She's rather formidable. Tell me something, dear, what kind of empress would she be, assuming she is truly after the job?"

"I don't know exactly, but I have a good feeling about her. She's rather cautious and she has what seem like good ideals. I don't see her following Sheev Palpatine's examples."

Vestalia chuckled. "Didn't you once tell me that he sees you as his successor? This will likely be disappointing …"

"Indeed," Valles laughed. "But I should be in an excellent position to steer things, I'm off to a good start with Shaak. I think she trusts me – at least she's giving me that impression."

"Tread lightly, dear. But I'd like a chance to meet our next empress. Do you suppose that maybe you could set something up?"

"I can work on it, but no promises. Master Ti is very much her own gal. And her people follow her religiously."

Vestalia resumed stroking Valles's hair with one of her left hand's large fingers. She had a subtle touch that stimulated the Liannese queen at times. She then offered, "are you feeling up for some ambrosia, my dear girl?"

Valles turned her head to look her hostess in the eye. "I'd love a bit of that."

"Certainly." Vestalia flicked two of her right-hand fingers and soon a gold platter arrived. "I had this prepared for your visit, Valles. Enjoy."

Valles's mouth watered as she saw the orangish confection. There was a stack of wafers, and a small knife for spreading it. She used the Force to prepare about four of them with the delicious substance, then scarfed them down quickly. Once done, she was about to prepare another round, when Vestalia placed her left arm around Valles's shoulder, and sent some soothing warmth into her. Valles began to feel slightly intoxicated but it was more the extreme richness of the food than anything else. Her pancreas was more than capable of handling its digestion, but the intense flavor aroused her taste buds and olfactory senses, and went straight to her brain. She was able to prepare two more wafers, but Vestalia warned her gently.

"My dear, you might want to go easy on this. I used a mixture at about 20% strength but you are a smallish lady and I don't want your system to be over-taxed."

"Hmm. It's so good … just two more."

After she swallowed them, Valles started to feel another sensation and she was getting a bit tipsy. Vestalia lightly snapped her fingers and Valles fell asleep in her lap. The Queen Mother than directed her throne to carry them into her royal suite, whereupon they soon arrived in a bedroom that only honored guests could stay in. She levitated Valles onto the bed and let her sleep off the effects of the ambrosia.

A few hours later, Valles awoke, and Vaston, who had been waiting patiently, came to her side and helped her up. His mother had gone about her business and left to attend to various matters.

"Oh!" She was somewhat startled and embarrassed over her state, but Vaston sat next to her on the edge of the bed.

"Not to worry, my love. Mother told me everything and she wished you a pleasant stay here, and we shall leave for Baldavia in the morning."

Valles nodded, then leaned in close to him, nuzzling her head under his chin and letting him smell her wonderful fragrance, still potent hours after she had applied it. He gently kissed her cheek and then, in one motion, placed his arm under her and hoisted her into his arms as he rose and stood up. As Valles weighed under 50 kg, it was a simple matter for him. Holding her in his arms, he spoke softly to her.

"You are so very beautiful, my darling. Sometimes, I never want to let go of you."

She chuckled, now feeling more at ease. "I understand. You are so good to me."

"So, did you and Mother have a good talk?"

"We did. As you would expect, we talked about Shaak and her plans – and my role. Of course, as usual, she's quite supportive."

"Of course she is … and I will do whatever you need me to. We will support Shaak here on Hapes. Mother expects that from me and the others here."

"Excellent. My work here is done, then. Now we may celebrate."

"Valles … I have just the thing …"
