Atliersky- Yeah, I'll miss writing Jackdaw's Cry too. And the battle did happen in the third book of the DOTC series towards the last few chapters. Yeah, all the same cats died on SkyClan's side, but by ThunderClan instead of friends and family against each other (like in canon, which was horrible).

And you guessed correctly. It was Mapleshade, who was with Thistlestar. She doesn't have anything directly against SkyClan, but they were one of the easier targets. I always wondered why she only wanted revenge on Appledusk's family only when ThunderClan did her wrong too (not saying what she did was right either) but why would they exile kits?

So I decided to make her get revenge on ThunderClan by helping Thistlestar rise to power when she's really trying to take his Clan down by making them look bad in front of the other Clans.

So yeah, it's not really about SkyClan just some long-time revenge.

Skystar was bowed over Rainswept Flower, Lightning Tail and Acorn Fur sniffled, as they lay by Hawk Swoop's body, Nettle groomed Fircone, Quick Water stooped by Falling Feather and Yellowfang and Dappled Pelt brushed their paws over Frost's body as they prepared it for the burial.

The WindClan warriors walked around offering reassurances and condolences. Except Mudclaw, who slashed out angrily at a tree, angry he couldn't have fought.

Thunder couldn't find himself angry at ThunderClan.

I promised myself I would help ThunderClan to be free of their misfortune of being under Thistlestar's leadership.

He looked out into the distance. No matter what he wouldn't give up even if his clanmates would disapprove of his belief in giving them a second chance.

Except maybe Darkstripe…and Tigerclaw…and Swiftclaw?

He wasn't sure of Swiftclaw and Dustpelt's ambition, but he already knew Longtail was just a coward, who hid behind big, strong cats.

And Graystripe… his heart reached out to his once friend. He'd been there for him when he was a part of ThunderClan and now he would help him.

Gray Wing jolted and many other cats jumped too when they heard a mournful howl from the moor. "Fire Heart!" He rushed out of Four Trees followed by some other cats. "Fire Heart!" He spotted the ginger tom crouching down. Was he hurt?

He skidded to a halt and realized Fire Heart was fine. But Jackdaw's Cry wasn't. The young black tom lay dead.

"No…" Ivy Breeze whispered.

"I hate ThunderClan!" Fire Heart yowled and the other cats jumped. "I wanna kill them all!" He lunged forward.

Pigeonflight, who was closest, pinned him down. "Not a good idea. Even if I agree."

"We shouldn't think like that–" Gray Wing began.

"No, saying anything about giving them another chance!" Thorn spat. "They've always pushed us around when we were roaming as rogues!"

"Yes, and now his clanmates have killed half of ours," Wind Runner spat. "And who died on their side? An idiot apprentice, who thought he could fight!"

Gray Wing gasped. "Don't say that!"

"He's right," Deadfoot added hesitantly. "Young cats are easily influenced."

Wind Runner and Thorn turned away with contemptuous snorts.

"C'mon," Gray Wing murmured, nudging Fire Heart. "Let's bury him."

Graystripe padded slowly at the rear of the patrol, who were all already disappearing down the ravine. He didn't notice his mother drop back to walk by him.

"Are you okay?" Willowpelt asked softly.

Graystripe looked up, feeling anguish. "No." He shook his head. "No, I'm not okay. I hate THIS!"

He raced ahead before she could say anything.

He wished he could be brave and do something to stop all of this.

He wished he could run away.

Run away.

"You were the sweetest cats, I knew," Dew mewed. They were all gathered on the moor and a big hole had been dug. The gray-and-white she-cat was talking about Rainswept Flower and Hawk Swoop right now.

"I'll miss digging tunnels with you," Shattered Ice whispered, looking at his former apprentice's black fur.

"You were my best friend from the start, Fircone," Nettle murmured.

"And you were a good friend too, Frost," Yellowfang meowed.

"You may as well have been a RiverClan cat for your love of swimming and fishing" Quick Water talked next about Falling Feather. "You had so many hidden talents."

"Goodbye Hawk Swoop, Jackdaw's Cry," Lightning Tail murmured.

"We'll never forget you," Acorn Fur added.

Fire Heart turned away, pain sharp like thorns clutched at his heart. Thunder just stared blankly ahead.

As the WindClan cats helped Gray Wing and Skystar bury them, the others grouped together, ready to head home. The moon still shined bright but it would soon be dawn again.

Two days had passed. The others must be worried, Thunder thought.

Skystar was thanking the WindClan cats graciously and Thunder noticed most of them casting them worried looks as if they would drop dead any minute.

"Let's go," Gray Wing murmured, leading them away, as Skystar dismissed them to go ahead.

"I can't believe it," Ivy Breeze whispered. "It just won't be the same with so many gone." Someone shoved past the apprentices roughly and Shattered Ice stalked ahead.

Thunder knew he was hiding his emotions. He was the type to cry somewhere private and keep a stony face during a burial in front of everyone else.

Yeah…it won't be the same… and once again, tears stung his eyes as he thought of Hawk Swoop.

Hawk Swoop stared after her clanmates. She stood by Jackdaw's Cry, the others who had died and the cats who had died in the past. She watched Fire Heart sadly.

"He'll be okay," Jackdaw's Cry murmured. "We'll see him again soon."

"Where do we go?" Rainswept Flower asked. "If you all aren't in StarClan?"

Shaded Moss and Bright Stream shared a look. "We just…roam like any cat who doesn't believe in StarClan."

"So like rogues," Falling Feather sighed.

At least we have each other…

She turned and followed the other spirits into some bushes, feeling weightless and strangely free like a burden had been lifted off her shoulders.

No more fear or responsibilities…just watching over the living and guiding them till the end.

Fire Heart crouched by Raven Hope, who groomed his ears. Fire Heart pressed his nose to Raven Hope's shoulder. He was the only cat he could hold onto. And he was grateful for the company.

Thunder crouched by them along with Jagged Peak.

A few days had passed after the battle and the gray tabby had been devastated to hear about the deaths. Especially Jackdaw's Cry and Rainswept Flower's.

"Jackdaw's Cry said he saved you because you were important or something," Fire Heart suddenly said to Thunder.

Thunder shook his head with a sad smile. "Oh, no. That can't be true."

"Yeah, but cats always say wise things before they die no matter how non-serious they are," Fire Heart insisted.

Thunder just shook his head. "I'm an apprentice. What's so special about me?"

They were silent after that.

Fire Heart watched the kits tumble about and Cloud Tail and his siblings practiced battle moves. Cloud Spots and Pebble Heart sorted herbs and Gray Wing and Skystar shared tongues.

No matter how much he didn't want to move on he knew he had to. Besides, he had other close friends. His gaze went from Raven Hope to Jagged Peak to Thunder and then to Yellowfang.

He had them to take care of. To hold onto. To be there for.

He would certainly never forget Jackdaw's Cry and Hawk Swoop who had been the best cats to him when he first arrived to the Clans. He thought of them all the time, almost everything reminded him of them or some memory he shared.

But he had to keep going. For them.

He finally relaxed under Raven Hope's affectionate grooming, and the chattering of Thunder and Jagged Peak beside him, the hole in his heart filled up a bit.

We'll be here, Fire Heart…

He snapped his eyes open, swearing he'd heard the voices. He shook his head. Maybe he wasn't really ready to move on fully, but he would be soon.

Dappled Pelt walked beside a subdued Shattered Ice, both of them had herbs in their jaws.

The tortoiseshell tried to find words to comfort her friend, but she didn't know what to say.

Suddenly, Shattered Ice stopped, trembling.

"Shattered Ice? Are you okay?" She asked, mew sharp with worry.

Shattered Ice nodded, but didn't move forward. When Dappled Pelt started to approach him, to comfort him, he turned and ran.

In the direction of RiverClan.

Dappled Pelt stared after him sadly before she hung her head, tail drooping.

Why does he hide his emotions?

She stayed in the clearing out in the woods for a long time, thinking.

Nothing will be the same again…

And that's the end of Book Three. That was the most unsatisfying ending I've written so far.

But it will get better in the end.

Rest In Peace:

Falling Feather

Jackdaw's Cry

Hawk Swoop

Fircone

Rainswept Flower
