morsemadison532- You pretty much guessed right. SkyClan will save Snowkit, but it'll go about in a different way and no one finds out he can't hear until book 5 anyway, so he's still safe for now.
Anyway, here's the prologue which is kind of short, but there's not much going on in intros anyway. A Gray Wing and Pebble Heart POV, who's about to become a more important character in this story.
Gray Wing heard the faint sounds of his sleeping denmates. The white circle of the moon floated above his head, casting a frosty light over the forest.
Soon he fell asleep.
He was sitting in the cave behind the waterfall. I'm back in our mountain cave! It'd been so many seasons since they had left!
Movement beside the far wall caught Gray Wing's gaze. Stoneteller pacing toward the tunnel at the back of the cave, which led to her den. She was unsteady with old age, her body scrawny and her pelt thin.
Gray Wing glanced around. He saw his mother, Quiet Rain, curled up in her sleeping hollow, and the rest of his former Tribemates were asleep too.
There's Dewy Leaf . . .her kits are growing! Three of them, and they look so strong and
healthy. But hadn't she had four last time?
Snow Hare slept nearby. She had always told the best stories.
A thought struck Gray Wing. When he lived in the cave he had never entered the Healer's private den. But since I'm dreaming, maybe I can peek…
He jumped to his paws and padded after her.
Stoneteller had vanished by the time Gray Wing reached the mouth of the tunnel. All he could see was a faint glow at the far end.
He slipped softly down the dark passage toward the light, wary.
As he approached the end of the tunnel Gray Wing crept forward more cautiously and peeked into Stoneteller's cave. He stifled a gasp as he gazed around.
It's beautiful!
Stoneteller sat with her back to Gray Wing, gazing upward.
Pointed stones stretched down from the roof of the cave, and more of them grew up from the floor. It was like a stone-made forest.
Ripples of water trickling down the stones shone in the moonlight and gathered in pools on the floor, looking like vision pools.
He stalked slowly towards Stoneteller.
"Why are you following me?" Stoneteller asked. Her voice was gentle, though she didn't turn to look at Gray Wing.
Gray Wing all but jumped. "I-I'm sorry?" he stammered. "I…uh… I just wanted to . . ."
Stoneteller rolled her eyes. "You came here because I invited you," she meowed, her
voice full of wisdom. "I allowed you to follow me. I called you here."
Every hair on Gray Wing's pelt prickled with amazement. "How can you do that?" he whispered. "Even though I live so far away?" And why? She always lets me see the cave again, but no else has ever mentioned it.
Stoneteller looked at him for the first time. "Part of your heart will always belong here." It was as if she had read his mind.
Gray Wing agreed. He had wanted to stay behind, but his brother had run away, so he had followed to keep him safe.
"Then why—" he began.
"Be quiet," Stoneteller mewed.
She looked at a spider spinning a web.
Stoneteller leaped up and raked her claws through the web, shredding it into scraps.
Gray Wing gaped as the spider hurtled down. Instantly it sent out a strand of web, halting its fall. It scuttled out of sight, its home destroyed.
"Why'd you do that?" Gray Wing asked, staring at Stoneteller.
The Healer returned his stare. "Never mind that," she meowed. "What did the spider do?"
"Uh, the spider saved itself," he replied.
"Yes, it did," Stoneteller agreed. "And what will it do now?"
Gray Wing refrained from rolling his eyes, beginning to feel irritated. "It'll build a new web."
"That's right," Stoneteller mewed. "Wisdom and a long life come from being flexible. One day soon, you will need to be just as flexible. You will have to be strong for yourself, and for other cats. You already know that life is hard. It's about to become harder."
Gray Wing didn't think his Clan could take anymore problems right now. Not after the battle at Four Trees. "Can't you tell me more than that?" he demanded. "Can't you be more specific?" Maybe if she was more specific, he'd be able to easily save his Clan from more tragedies.
Stoneteller's voice softened and she dipped her head sympathetically. "It's not for me to plan out your future, Gray Wing. I can only give you guidance. You must make your own decisions, but you–and the others–will need to be stronger than ever before."
Why me?
"Make your mother proud," she added and the dream disappeared.
Pebble Heart blinked open his eyes. He found himself in a shadowy camp, but he couldn't tell which Clan it was. Agonized wails came from the medicine den and sniffling sounded.
Sheesh! They sound really sick! he thought. If only there was a way he could help. He paced forward when suddenly a bright white cat with blue eyes appeared in front of him.
"Who are you?" He asked calmly.
"I am Sagewhisker," she meowed. "I was the medicine cat before Yellowfang." This was Yellowfang's mentor, huh? "I have an important message for you."
Pebble Heart sat down calmly and gazed at her expectantly. He was ready as he always was.
"StarClan is calling you. Another Clan is in need of your assistance."
"Which Clan?"
Sagewhisker ignored him and instead meowed, "and your Clan must spread like the Blazing Star…"
And then she disappeared as well as the whole dream.
Pebble Heart woke with a start in the apprentice's den.
He sighed. Seems like he would have to decipher these messages on his own again.
