A/N: I started writing this while waiting for the new episode and I was nervous and needed something happy and lighthearted. And after watching that letter scene I DEFINITELY needed something happy and lighthearted.
This doesn't really match with the last chapter so quick reminder that these one shots aren't really connected in any way. But if you want to, you can kinda see it as a follow up to the chapter about Amanda coming out? Idk.
Set to one of the upcoming episodes, except: Liv knows about Rollisi and Kat never left. This is Rolivia attending Kat and Celine's housewarming party.
I present to you:
Tequila made them do it.
"So…" Amanda says while pushing the button repeatedly. "Dreading this?"
"Oh, I'm dreading this alright."
"Which part? The all girls part, or the fact that we're going to a party with people who can name all the Kardashians?"
"Both. Definitely both." Olivia mumbles while entering the elevator. "Wait, how many Kardashians are there?"
"Too many." Amanda scoffs. "Ok, tell you what. We drink two glasses of champagne each, make some awkward small talk and then we pull our mommy card."
"Your girls are home with Carisi and Noah's at a sleepover. Where's the mommy card in that?"
"They don't know that we have the night off."
"True." The brunette agrees with a short nod just as a loud 'ding!' announces that they have reached Kat's floor. "But let me take care of that part. You suck at lying."
"Hey!"
"What? You do. When I asked you about that hickey before you told me about Carisi, you told me Frannie bit your neck. When we both know that dog wouldn't bite a fly."
"Ugh, you're right." Amanda groans just as she lifts her arm to knock on the door. "Ok, let's do this."
"Don't leave my side." Olivia says with a low voice, bumping her shoulder into the woman next to her.
"I won't."
"How's your recovery going? You ready to come back soon?" Amanda asks twenty minutes later, finally getting a moment alone with Olivia, Kat and Celine in the bustling apartment.
"Two weeks." Kat's grin is quickly followed by a frustrated sigh. "It's been hell, though."
"Ugh, tell me about it." Amanda agrees.
"You were shot, too?" Celine asks.
"Mhm." She points to her shoulder. "Eight years ago."
"Scared the living shit out of me." Olivia chimes in.
The blonde turns to look at her, a little surprised by the captain's unexpected admission. "I did?"
"Of course you did." Olivia scoffs, like it's the most ridiculous question she has ever heard.
"But… You hated me back then."
"I did not. I was just…" She shrugs, suddenly looking slightly uncomfortable, "adjusting."
"I know." Amanda says softly while placing a hand at the small of her back. Wordlessly letting the other woman know that she understands what she's referring to.
It takes them another thirty minutes, but after a bit of maneuvering and eight different names already forgotten, they finally find themselves alone in the kitchen. Downing what has now turned into their third glass, not the two they initially agreed on.
Olivia is just about to ask Amanda if she has given any more thought to the sergeant's exam when a woman comes through the kitchen door. The redhead giving them both a polite smile before grabbing a beer from the fridge.
"So, how long have you two been together?" The nameless stranger asks while leaning against the refrigerator door she just closed.
"Oh, we're n-"
"Three years." Olivia interrupts, immediately receiving a staggered glance from the blonde. "Still waiting for her to pop the big question, though."
Amanda laughs nervously, being a terrible liar after all. But the drinks help a little and so she wraps an arm around the captain's waist. "Oh, it's coming, baby. When you least expect it."
"Adorable." The other woman says dreamily, tilting her head. "Ugh, I'm so jealous." And then she wanders away.
"So how would you ask?" Olivia asks teasingly while giving them both a refill.
"Hmm…" Amanda taps a finger against her chin before taking a generous sip of the champagne just handed to her. "Nothing big and super public, you would hate that."
"True." The captain confirms while clinking their glasses together.
"And I'm not getting down on one knee."
"Wouldn't want you to."
"I'd take you somewhere that reminded me of us, maybe the place where I first realized how I felt."
"Yeah? And where's that?"
"Central Park." Amanda says matter of factly, while lifting herself up on the kitchen counter, close to knocking her glass over.
She gets an approving nod in return. "Classic."
"By the chess boards."
"Wait." Olivia's playful smile falters. "We worked one of our first cases there."
"Did we?" The detective's voice is laced with faux confusion, matching the expression on her face. "What a coincidence."
A second later, and before Olivia can pry any further, a swarm of women enters the kitchen and for a moment they find themselves trapped in what feels like an alternate universe where the people around them speak an entirely different language.
Caught in a conversation about some influencer on Instagram, Olivia glances over at Amanda who is currently sneaking her way out the door.
"Where are you going?" The brunette asks when she finally catches up with the detective.
"Uhm, to the bathroom?"
"I'm going with you."
"What? Why?"
"When I told you not to leave my side, I meant it. Besides, I need to pee, too."
"Going to the bathroom together?" Amanda asks, deadpanned. "Liv, we're not in high school."
Olivia looks around, eyeing one dress shorter than the next. "Are you sure?"
"Fine." The blonde responds with a roll of the eyes. "Let's go."
Once inside the cramped bathroom, she gently shoves Olivia to the side, turning her around in the process. "I gotta pee first." She snickers when she hears the other woman let out a disapproving and impatient scoff. "I'm sorry, but after Billie I have no control. I'm like a leaky faucet."
The captain looks over her shoulder then, that fourth glass clearly making her forget all about privacy.
"TMI?" Amanda asks while reaching for the toilet paper.
"TM what?"
"Too much information?"
"Oh." Olivia turns to look at the wall again while shaking her head. "No, you're fine."
"Guess I dodged a bullet there, huh?" She says when they change places. "I might be pushing sixty but at least I'm not a faucet."
"You're far from sixty, Liv." Amanda responds while washing her hands. "But do you regret it though? I know we talked about this, but… Is it something you think about?"
"I don't know. Some days I do, some days I don't."
"Well, you do have the most gorgeous boy in the world."
"That I do." The captain smiles proudly as she joins her by the sink. "So… I know I shouldn't ask, but you and Carisi?"
"What about us?"
"Baby?"
"Oh." Amanda looks down at her stomach like she's expecting to see a bump there. "We haven't really had that talk yet. But…"
"What?"
"I never thought I'd say this, I mean… I'm 41, I already have two kids. My life is crazy. But now that I'm with him?" She bites down on her lip before it curls into a smile. "Yeah, I kinda want one more."
"You ready for months of desk duty?"
"Nope. Gonna hide it from you until I'm going into labor. Make it look like I'm just gaining a shit ton of weight."
Olivia chuckles while checking her lipstick in the mirror. "Good luck with that."
"Ok." Amanda straightens her shoulders while locking eyes with the other woman. "Are you ready to pull that mommy card now?"
"Yup."
"There you guys are." Kat says enthusiastically when the two women exits the bathroom, grabbing Amanda's arm and pulling her towards the kitchen.
"What's going on?"
"Tequila shots."
The blonde immediately gives Olivia a terrified look over her shoulder. "No, dear god."
"Come on. You can handle one shot." The younger detective argues.
Except, that's the thing with tequila. It's rarely just one shot. It's usually followed by a second and then a third, and suddenly you're on your fifth, gradually regressing back into your college days.
And that's how they find themselves stumbling out on the balcony, in a desperate attempt to get away from all the booze and the salt and the lemons. And in Olivia's case, the heat.
"They're literally trying to kill us in there." Amanda groans as she slumps down on the small sofa, groaning again when the pile of throw pillows makes it a challenge to get comfortable.
The captain sighs in agreement as she sits down next to her. "Wanna arrest them for attempted murder?"
"Did you bring your cuffs?" Amanda winks, nudging Olivia with her elbow.
"You're very flirty when you drink."
She shrugs while handing the brunette the bottle of water she was able to snatch on their escape route. "Where do you think Jesse and Billie came from?"
The joke grants her a snort from the other woman, but Olivia interrupts her own laugh when her eyes suddenly light up. "Wait, is Carisi still up?"
Confused, Amanda fumbles for the phone in her purse to check what time it is. "He might be, why?"
"Wanna mess with him?"
"Always." Her confused expression is quickly replaced with a mischievous smirk. "How?"
"Give me your phone." The device is already in the captain's hands by the time she finishes her sentence, but a moment later she hands it back. "I can't work that thing. Find the camera app."
Amanda squints at the screen, looking for the required icon and ignoring Olivia's comment about how she needs glasses, too.
"Ok, lean in." The brunette orders when she gets the phone back, placing a hand at the back of Amanda's head, urging her to move closer.
"What are you doing?"
"Just close your eyes."
When Amanda opens them again a moment later, Olivia is grinning widely while holding the phone up. There, on the detective's screen is something that looks an awful lot like two women kissing, except the captain made sure to cover their mouths.
"Liv!" She slaps the other woman's arm. "He's gonna flip."
"And?" Olivia shrugs, still grinning while adding the caption "Tequila made us do it", before pressing send.
"I love it."
When no reply comes, Amanda is quick to let Olivia know that if she wakes up as a single woman the next day, her boss better make room in her apartment, seeing as this was her idea and the breakup will be her fault.
"That's only fair." Olivia agrees with a yawn as she leans back in the couch, suddenly reminded why she never goes out anymore. She smiles when the blonde rests her head on her shoulder, mirroring her yawn. "You know what?" She says, fingers playing with the hem of her shirt.
"What?" Amanda mumbles.
"I don't tell you often enough how much I appreciate you."
"Aww." The detective turns her head to peer up at her. "Look at you giving me the drunk speech."
"No, I mean it." Her words might be slurred, and her eyes might be a little hooded, but she's still dead serious as she leans back to look at the other woman.
"I'll remind you of this conversation when we're sober, see if you feel the same way."
"I will."
Carrying a case file and one large coffee in her hand, Amanda knocks softly before entering Olivia's office Monday morning.
"Good morning." The brunette says, looking up from behind her glasses. "Have a good weekend?" She smirks.
"Awesome." Amanda replies dryly before placing both the file and the coffee on Olivia's desk. "Spent most of my Sunday throwing up and shaking like a leaf."
"Weird, I did the same thing. Must be a bug going around."
"Must be." Amanda jokingly responds. "Carisi sends his regards."
"Oh, god. How mad was he?"
"Surprisingly not mad at all."
"Ok, good." Olivia lets out a relieved sigh. "Either way, I'll be ignoring him for a few days."
"Understandable." The blonde snickers before she turns around to leave.
"Oh, hey, Amanda?"
"Hm?"
"Have I told you lately how much I appreciate you?"
"No." Amanda tries to hold back a smile while folding her arms. "You should do that more often."
"I should, shouldn't I?"
A/N: I had so much fun writing this chapter. I know it might feel very OOC, but that's only because we never get to see them in settings like these. Sigh.
Until next time :)
